XT 1058 Rogers 4.4.4 refuse to get sim unlocked? - Moto X Q&A

Guys as stated above, I purchased an unlock key but it always comes back as unsuccessful. Idl like to ask what ussd code work on moto x to see what is in there. And if anyone successfully beat this prob.
Phone is bootloader unlocked and all stock.
Thanks
getvar info

Where did you purchase your code from?
Exactly what steps are you taking to sim unlock?

I purchased a code from a third party unlocker I used many times before. i spoke to Rogers and the imei is definitely not black listed or on any blocked list. Moto says that if I get both option to enter sim lock and dismiss it, phone is not hard locked.
Not sure what gives, as soon as i eject the sim and put it back on Moto x asks for sim network unlock code, i input it and I get network unlock request unsuccessful. There is no countdown on tries being displayed. It gets back to asking for code.

Not sure, other than possibly having a wrong, or incomplete code?

yeah that is a possibility I am working to eliminate by trying to request another code from a different vendor.

a shot in the dark here:
Could flashing a different radio reset the hard lock? assuming the moto x i have is hard locked.
If say flashing xt 1053 radio on xt 1058 is not risky, I can give it a shot to see if i can get sim unlocked, the revert back to xt 1058 radio.
Thoughts please

I haven't kept up on which radios it is safe to "cross flash" to another model phone. So I really can't advise you.
I do know XT1052 isn't compatible with xt1053. and flashing an XT1052 with xt1053 radio will cause the radio to stop working. (as I've seen posts about this).

Only thinking of resetting the hard lock if it is hard locked, and reverting back to xt 1058 radio.

Did you ever try the flashing to XT1053 followed by XT1058 ROM trick? Just curious because my 1058 can't seem to get unlocked and I'm not sure if it's because it's hardlocked or the code is wrong (though both AT&T and a 3rd party vendor provided the same code).

I no longer have that xt1058, that thing was stubborn as hell. I didnt flash all xt1053 rom however i remember flashing like radio i believe. No matter what I did, that thing was shut, unable to get unlocked.
You case is like mine, code is correct but cant get unlocked. Your best bet is to talk to the carrier if you can and if you are a subscriber coz otherwise they ll play ping pong with you. They ll send you to Moto and Moto will send you to the carrier if the phone is branded.
Good luck man

Sprint Moto X Bootloader

I'm trying to unlock my boot loader on my sprint moto x but it keeps telling me it can't be unlocked. Now I contacted Motorola and they said it can't be bootloader unlocked because my phone is not activated... I'm using the replacement phone they sent me. I sim-Unlocked it and am now using straight talk att Sim. But I want to root my phone.

Did you unlock your previous phone? AFAIK, the phone doesn't need to be activated in order to unlock it - I wouldn't trust the Moto support people - they know less than most of us do.
You must follow the procedure exactly to get your unlock code. Confirm that you have taken the unlock data, pasted it into notepad, removed ALL spaces and [bootloader] messages, and made it into one single, contiguous string of characters. Then copy and paste this string into the Moto Unlock website.
Sometimes the website can be glitchy - others have reported success using a different browser, or trying again at a later time. If you are doing it correctly, it should work.

I did successfully unlock the bootloader on the previous moto x I had before they sent me a new one. That one was activated on sprint. And I took the same steps I did when I did my first moto x and I keep getting the error. I never activated it back on sprint because I'm not using it for sprint. And the only reason it was activated before on sprint was I brought it off craigslist. It was pointless for me to activate it on sprint if I'm not gone use it on sprint.
Another thing, how do I get rid of the activation screen that comes up when I turn the phone on.

All I can suggest is try again. Other users have unlocked phones that were never activated...heck - GSM phones don't even 'get activated'.
Hopefully your phone wasn't stolen or something...that would prevent you from getting an unlock code. But if that were the case, your IMEI should be blacklisted and you shouldn't be able to use it at all...
As far as the activation prompt, you MUST be unlocked in order to get rid of it. Then, use this custom SBF provided by ezeuba that bypasses activation. http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/rooted-sprint-moto-x-sbf-t2834891
If nothing else you can wait and hope that Dan releases a tool to exploit his BL-unlock vulnerability he has discovered. There is no time-frame as to when it might be released, though. At least you can use the phone now, even the way it is...

Has Motorola stopped unlocking the Sprint MOTO X bootloader? I've been trying to unlock 2 XT1056 phones and it says "Your device does not qualify for bootloader unlocking". What gives? I'm getting confused here because I've unlocked one from the site before and it went OK. Please any help, anyone?

The site can be glitchy. Keep trying (maybe tomorrow) or try a different browser. Confirm that you have entered the unlock data exactly as instructed. They have not stopped offering unlock codes for the XT1056 - they just have a less-than-perfect unlock website.

[Q] AT&T XT1058 can i flash it to a generic rom?

Hi, I got an AT&T XT1058 from ebay. I'm in teh UK so I'd really like to flash it with a stock UK ROM. I've had a look on here and with the huge amount of info I can't figure out if this is possible and which rom to use. it's 4.4.2 that's on the phone at teh moment which i believe can't be downgraded or unlocked easily, is that right?
any help would be greatly appreciated
cheers
To flash any Rom besides the Stock, Signed Moto ROM for your carrier and model X, you need to unlock the bootloader.
While Moto doesn't give out the Bootloader Unlock Code for the ATT USA XT1058, since you have 4.4.2 on it still, you should be able to use Sunshine to unlock the bootloader. (NOTE: please boot into fastboot/bootloader on the phone, and verify the version on the 2nd line is 30.B4 which is correct for 4.4.2).
Once you use sunshine, you can flash 3rd party recoveries, roms, etc.
While I have NOT done it, I've seen posts of ATT US Xt1058 owners flashing with Parts of the XT1053 rom to remove bloat, etc. (flashing the modems will likely change which wireless bands the phone can connect to). I do not advise flashing another carrier's rom. It could get messy, especially around UPDATE time. And I've seen some lose Cellular and WIFI flashing the wrong modem files.
One final thing. The ATT US XT1058 is SIM/Carrier locked too. So in order to use a non-ATT SIM in it you'll need to obtain a SIM unlock code. You should be able to get this from any web site selling unlock codes on the internet.

To unlock the bootloader on the ATT XT1058 Moto X, there are only two possible ways..
The China Middleman thread (in the general section), although he only has codes for certain date range of phones (depends on the Assembly Date of your phone), BUT he has recently stopped responding again. There is no telling if/when it will start up again
Sunshine, which doesn't work with 4.4.4. However you can always try it since it wont charge you if it doesn't work. (i.e. it checks your phone, if it will work, if wont, it tells you and exits without charging you).
4.4.4 can't be temp rooted either.
So you are pretty much stuck stock ATT, and then just get it sim unlocked to use it with your carrier.

For the Rogers XT1058, Moto does offer the Bootloader Unlock code for free from their web site -> https://motorola-global-portal.cust...e/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a/action/auth it will void your warranty
The GSM Dev Edtion is the XT1053. It has different radio/modem files, its hardware supports different bands (less LTE bands). I never recommend flashing another model's ROM as we have seen loss of cellular in some cases, where even flashing the original firmware back didn't fix.
Once you unlock your bootloader and root, you can remove and freeze any bloat on the phone (freezing is preferred because the next OTA might require it to be there).

Only if you can't unlock your boot loader. But as I said, moto does give out the unlock codes on their web site for the Rogers xt1058
Also, without unlocking the boot loader, you can only flash the rom for your phone model and its carrier branding.

Thank you for the answers

[Q] Moto X AT&T stock version, does it come with a lock?

Hi guys,
total n00b question.
A friend of mine brought an AT&T Moto X (1st generation) phone with him for me from the U.S. to Germany.
He bought it from the motorola.com page directly 2 years ago through the Thanksgiving promo, never got it activated and its still stock and everything, never used before.
He paid the full retail price of 400$ at the time, does it however still come with a sim/netlock?
I thought since it didn't come with a contract (where you pay only a few $ and you are bound to a 1y/2y contract) and he paid the full 400$ for it, it doesn't have any sim/net lock?
Sadly I don't have a nano sim card to try it out, before I order one from my carrier I was hoping someone could help me out with this
I know that simlock threads are not allowed, I'm not asking for an unlock, just whether a retail 400$ phone has that lock or not?
Thanks in advance!
If it's stock and on 4.4.2 or below, invest in Sunshine to unlock your bootloader. I'm not sure if AT&T sim-locked their Moto Xs. They should provide the code for free, if necessary, though since the phone was paid in full.
Thanks for the quick reply, already looked into SuneShine for unlocking the BL (its a shame that I didn't pick the T-Mobile version over the AT&T, hmm)
But worth spending another 25$ for it!
Now I'm still curious about the sim/netlock.
From what I found out by googling and reading for hours, if it has a simlock, AT&T will not unlock it cause I've never been a customer and it never was hooked up to an AT&T account, kinda bad if you ask me for a full price cell phone... The T-Mobile version comes 100% sim and BL unlocked...
Moto chat support cant help, they didn't even know that there are different versions of the Moto X 1st Gen...
It's usually less than 20 dollars to unlock them on a website that offers Sim unlocking. Not sure if at&t devices are usually OK to do so, but I would think they are. The carriers usually charge more even... In Canada anyway. ?
OK, thanks a lot!
I'm really just surprised that if you pay the full retail price for a phone it can still be sim/netlocked...
Hope you guys don't mind asking me another few questions, I'm just transiting over from my Razr I so a few things are different
If I don't need a custom recovery but planning on installing a different official Moto firmware which is signed by Moto (would love to flash the EU firmware to have full German language support) do I still need to unlock the BL or will this work with a locked BL since its an official Moto firmware?
Also are there any files I should not flash, therefore remove from the xml?
And I know that the BL unlock has nothing to do with the sim unlock, but any change if I unlock the BL and flash a different firmware, I won't need to enter a sim unlock code then?
I'm just trying to get as many answers before I try it and find out the "hard" way it won't work and that it results in a completely bricked device in the end...
AND sorry, but another question
Are the LTE bands hardware or software coded? Cause we use different bands over here in Europe and I know from the Sony Z1C you can activate all bands software-wise, so I was thinking maybe its the same with the Moto X?
Thanks again!

Wrong section, This is the 2013 section. And this thread has nothing to do with your question, that's called thread hijacking.
So you should go to the Moto X 2014 section, and if you don't see a thread on the same sort of topic.... Then post your own thread in the Q&A section. ?
So I read an insane number of pages and somewhere I found this great page:
https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/?#/
Long story short, I reveived a nano sim card today, AT&T Moto X is locked, contacted AT&T via the above mentioned website, it took 2 days and today I received my sim unlock code via email from AT&T for free, no account with them needed and it works!

With the bootloader on the ATT XT1058 being locked, you'll only be able to flash Moto Signed Roms for your phone's CID or carrier branding. You will not be able to flash the XT1052 EU rom, or other X roms. Only the ATT XT1058.
If you are lucky and your ATT XT1058 has not yet been upgraded to Android 4.4.4 and bootoader 30.B7, you should be able to use JCase's Sunshine tool to unlock the bootloader. Note: Because this is a HACK, do NOT try to re-lock the bootloader after using it, or you will be permanently bootloader locked.

I don't believe flashing a different ROM would give you SIM unlock.
You're only option is getting it from the Carrier if you meet their terms/conditions. Or buying a SIM unlock code from an online seller.

I've read different things. So I can't say for sure which is correct.
I know that the Verizon X, XT1060, initially game supporting only LTE Band 13. Band 4 was later enabled by firmware update.
But I've also seen posts of some losing their entire cellular radio when flashing other model's full roms, and not getting it back by flashing the correct rom. (I don't recall the full details, sorry!).
On other phones, I've seen things like "edits" to turn on other bands. But no so for the 2013 X.
So I wouldn't mess with it.
Thanks for the explanations @KidJoe
Until know I didn't know that a signed Moto firmware is not just bound to the model but also to a CID, always thought you could flash any region firmware over the phone as long as its the same model.
Sunshine is def. an option, I didn't take the OTA (even thou it reminds me at least once a day cause I suspected already there would be more exploits available with a lower android OS.
SIM unlock is no problem anymore, AT&T provided me the unlock key via website request (took me a while to find that link, thou) and you don't need to have an account with them and the phone does NOT need to be hooked to an AT&T contract.
About the LTE bands:
OK, I don't want to mess with the modem / radio and lose all bands in the end but could I just flash the system files from the EU version via fastboot?
Which files should I flash and which files should I avoid flashing?
Basicially what I'm trying to achieve is getting German as android language and not just have German as keyboard language.
Or is German included in the CM11 as well cause then I imagine it would be much easier to just flash CM11 without damaging any bands...
All in all, I'm just looking for a fully stable KK OS that is in German
Thanks again for your replies!

You could try using mFastboot and flash only System.img... BUT!!!! Its going to cause issues with OTA updates, and having mismatched parts always increases the risks for bricking and/or things just not working correctly!! So I usually don't recommend mixing things up.

Error when i try to unlock my Moto x

Hi. I have the Moto X xt1058 (AT&T) and I bought the code on 2 different pages. In one them they gave me 2 codes to try and when I tried to put the codes the phone showed an error to unlock the network and then in the other page they gave me the same 2 codes. I've reseted the phone and it keeps showing me the same error when I try to unlock it.
I have android system 4.4.4 stock.

I thought AT&T unlocked phones if you requested it due to that law that was put into effect for global capable phones?
I don't know how to do that process and I have another moto X from AT&T which I unlocked by buying the unlock code on a page.
very often its not working because custom ROM or custom baseband flashed, so please make sure that your phone is completely stock
its completely i updated by OTA to 4.4.4
First, you can try -> https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/?#/ it appears by the conditions that even NON-ATT customers can request the SIM/Carrier unlock code now.
Also, there was discussion about some SIM or Carrier Unlock codes not working on devices with a particular series of IMEI numbers... I don't know the specifics because I don't have an ATT X. See -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/sim-unlock-moto-x-gens-t3011662 and start around Post #21 for more details, and more importantly post #31 of that thread for a possible resolution.
And be careful, I'm not sure how many attempts you get to enter the SIM/Carrier unlock code.
i try here https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/?#/ but dont work cuz said me: "Error: We found no record of the IMEI Number you entered. Check your device's 15-digit IMEI Number by dialing *#06# (errorCode.ULP2003)"
i bought another unlock code on ebay... i will try again

That's SIM unlock, not bootloader.
There's no official support from anyone on either side, AT&T or Motorola, for unlocking the bootloader on the XT1058. In fact if you call them and ask, they'll just tell you "no".
Furthermore, even senior developers for the platform like jcase have said that unlocking the bootloader on the XT1058 running KitKat 4.4.4 is more-or-less impossible (at the moment).

Was your subject line ATTN: Donald Hicks - Global Leader Service Operations as stated in that post?
Did HE reply? or someone from Moto support? Did they explain why they can't help?
This:
Hello Starling,
Thank you for contacting Motorola. Unfortunately, as SIM issues are largely carrier-related, the spectrum of assistance we have to offer on the manufacturer's side of things is rather limited. When trying to use the subsidy unlock code to unlock your device, are you trying this with the new SIM card or the old one in your device? You should input the subsidy unlock code with the new SIM card if you have not already done so and try it again. If you have reset the device and you're still experiencing the issue, you will likely need to contact AT&T about this issue and they can look into things more fully on their end. The IMEI of your device shows as valid in our system, so if AT&T is having an issue with it, that would be on their end and you would also need to contact them about that. If you would be more comfortable with it, either a member of our tech support team or myself could reach out to you and make a conference call with AT&T to get this resolved for you as well.
Please let me know how you would like to proceed and I will assist you to the best of my ability.
Thank you for choosing Motorola and have a great day!
Cas

I would take them up on their offer in the final sentence of the first paragraph... To have a member of Moto support reach out to you and make a conference call with AT&T to get this resolved.

Whoops! Sorry about that, I guess my eyes skipped over that bit.
In that case, yeah! You should be able to grab it from AT&T's website or by calling in and asking about it.
I spoke with ATT and Motorola Agent and NOTHING.!
Motorola only help me to contact with ATT and they said me... "We cant help you with that, sorry"

AT&T moto x 2014 xt1097. does anyone know how to get UNIQUE_KEY to unlcok bootloader

AT&T moto x 2014 xt1097. does anyone know how to get UNIQUE_KEY to unlcok bootloader
So I have an AT&T moto x 2014 1097. I'm having trouble unlocking bootloader. I know how to unlock it just and get the UNIQUE_KEY for the command to unlock bootloader. I was curious if anyone had multiple methods on how to acquire the UNIQUE_KEY wether its calling Motorola, calling at&t, if I unlock sim from at&t (because I own the phone) would that help remove at&t software, or if there is any programs or ways to achieve the UNIQUE_KEY. Thanks again for any help/knowledge.
Why you not call the at&t to ask them if can help you.
Maybe at&t hold the unlock permision.

ATT won't help him unlock the bootloader. Unfortunately you are screwed unless you are on an update where something like Kingroot (fwiw i don't trust this software) would work.
Unlocking SIM has nothing to do with bootloader or root.

Because it was a carrier phone and their decision. Verizon's 2014 Moto X was bootloader locked for the longest time too. They were nice enough to change their mind but they didn't have to. I'm sure many have tried to ask att and look where we still are.........................
