Freedom did it - LG G Flex

I have a situation with my girls g flex. I'm a Samsung user so I can't figure this out. OK here's what happened I rooted her phone with towelroot everything has been fine for months except just last night she wanted to take freedom off her phone because it kept messing with the play store so inside freedom's settings I hit turn freecore off it rebooted the phone then when it turned back on the sprint logo just flashed it wouldn't boot normally so I went into recovery and wiped and it still does the same thing even using the hard reset screen thing. So now when it boots after wiping it will quickly flash the sprint screen barely seeing the yellow screen. How can this be fixed

That was showing respect. For DEVELOPERS.
That app scams in app purchases, many devs use to pay bills.
XDA has a strict and clear pirate policy. This post breaks it and should be removed and the OP banned.

PS3 Development

Hello all, I'm new here. Don't you just love seeing those 5 words?
Anyways, I own a PS3 and was wondering if anyone has or heard of a program that enables you to copy movies and games to the internal hard drive?
Basically giving you the ability to get rid of those cumbersome discs. I'm a moron, so please go easy on me. I've heard of one for the PS2. But that only enables games to be copied. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Its people like you, yes you, that put game devs and companies out of freaking business. PEOPLE LIKE YOU are the reason i cant play dead rising 2 with my friends because PSN is down. Its people like you that try to cheat everybody out of whats thiers. There are websites FOR the specific question youre asking. NOT XDA-Developers. We do NOT associate with warez, nor illegal copyright infringment. People like you that want everything but dont wanna fuc*** pay for it make me sick.
//end rant.

Wow... hit a nerve did I? I'm not interested in pirating anything.
I pay for my movies and games. I have also donated to several devs on this forum for their work and contributions.
I simply would like to take all of my discs and install them on my hard drive. I'm getting irritated with the wall of dvd boxes, and tired of the discs getting scratched and dirty.
To much maintenance if you ask me.
Even putting them in a disc logic binder is still negating the purpose.
However, I do agree... people that pirate cause all of the problems, and because of them the majority pays for their crimes.
I apologize for any misunderstanding. If I posted this on the wrong forum, delete it. I just thought, with the wealth of experience and knowledge, here would be a good spot to ask my question.

Nice to see you two kiss and make up. Now go get a room.
Back on topic (or off topic, let's not go there, shall we?), piracy is a major problem for a lot of people. I can't get access to cheap games, especially when a game could cost up to half a week's wage for me, and that's not even taking into account my living expenses.
You know the funny thing is, I had no idea about the PSN hack until 15 mins ago. One of the first stories on the news.
Why can't people just leave sh*t alone? Stop with the bs.
I understand that without hackers, we wouldn't have some of the stuff that we have. But come on! There's a line that people just shouldn't cross.

Actually I would blame Sony for all of this before GeoHot, if their security division would've been doing their jobs that I'm sure they're getting paid six figure salaries for, none of this would've happened, or at least the extremity of it. If Sony is offering a service that requires ppl credit card info, its their jobs to make damn sure the server where all this sensitive info is kept is 100% secure.

You blame sony for this!?! People make security systems. People arent perfect. Therefore neither are the security systems. Sony went after GeoHotz after he hacked the ps3 and made it possible to copy movies/games to the HD. This isnt sonys fault. Its the pricks that think they should get something for nothing.

You can't possibly be serious, that's like saying "Oh, I can break into your car so if I do it's your fault for not making the car indestructible." You can't blame Sony because their security isn't air tight. No one's security is air tight, there will almost always be a loophole.
-10 post limit for off-topic!-
yeah but sony's suing graf_chocolo as well! he did nothing related to piracy, he only wanted to restore a feature that was unrightfully taken from us: the other os feature. one of the two reasons I bought my ps3 was this feature, and sony just removes it "for security concerns?" furthermore, graf also stated that he would only turn it into a devs' thing or something, something that wouldn't be able to be used as an exploit for cfw whatsoever. i am against sony all the way - especially now that i know that they attempted to view our ip adresses for watching hotz's and graf's videos.....
Its not that hard to do and it doesnt take a special program, remember Google is your friend.

Screenshot ER on 3.2

Hi guys! If you remember, my app Screenshot ER was the first to work on honeycomb. If not, its in the signature.
Could all you lucky champs with 3.2 let me know if its still working please?
it works beautifully on 2.0.1 manta ray with kernel Tachi.
Still great job no matter what update for OS comes around
Cool. Are you using SER or SER 2?
1.0.8 that is
need root for this?
edit: never mind, just read your sig.
Yep... needs root. But if youre on this forum, you should know that restoring your device to vanilla is just as easy as rooting!
Works fine on Tiamat 2.1 (3.2 base).
[sER2]
Ive just checked (finally) and it works fine! Dunno why people are sending me error reports...
doesn't matter, 3.2 on Tiamat has screen shot app built in
Yep - but it sucks... this is a real screenshot app with cool features!
I'll pass, good luck

Sorry to disappoint but I do pay for apps on both my EVO 3D and Xoom. You said your app would ALWAYS be free to XDA members but went back on your word, that was bad enough. Now you're here spamming the forum, thats disgraceful. On the 2nd page is your last thread that was closed on Aug 4th, now you opened another thread the very next day which offers nothing that could have gone in the other thread? Oh yeah, and there's another thread in the Android Paid Apps section which was also closed.
I support devs verbally and through my wallet, but your behavior is pretty distasteful. I'm not looking for a fight, nor am I slamming your app, but I think the way you do business may hurt you more than freeloaders. Another factor may be people realize there are free apps that suit them just as well and don't have to worry about buying an app only to find it pulled from the market for some unexplained reason and have to get the other pay version.
Think of this as constructive criticism.

Booting ARM Ubuntu on Droid Bionic (BAD IDEA)

So to give a little history I have a Droid 1 rooted with CM6, that boots my custom made Ubuntu 10.04 ARM image from it's SD Micro. Well, I upgraded to a Droid Bionic this last week and decided to jump into root right away, which went very smoothly using petes root tools one click method. Then the hack came out for using the wifi hotspot, and that worked just fine, then I removed the bloatware, no issues... but then when trying to run the ubuntu.sh script to create a "chroot" environment for Ubuntu (androlinux.com), I found that the device does not support loopback devices out of the box, rooted or not. And when the device rebooted... it just hung on to the Moto Dual Core splash screen and refused to boot. No matter what I did I could not get the thing to boot back up, eventually after 2 hours of pulling the battery and trying to recover through the built in "recovery" with no luck... I sped down to my local verizon HQ and had them take a look... they were also unable to get the phone to boot and ultimately replaced my 6 day old Bionic.... Just a warning to those of you who may be looking to go this route, probably should wait for a full on custom recovery and rooted rom before trying to boot any ARM images.
My my old Bionic RIP....

Pretty dickheaded move in my opinion. I see that you mad no effort here to get support on getting your device to boot. Another fine example of how people suck. IMHO
I agree. You should have sought help here before returning to Verizon. You could have recovered your device. Its people like you that are driving up the price smart phones and making carriers and manufacturers lock down the phone. You get into doing stuff you don't know about and then when you screw up you make someone else eat the cost of your mistake. Thanks for bringing this to our attention but, most people know not to try and load custom software to a locked bootloader and stock recovery. Genius.

I hope they end up charging you retail price for the replacement phone they gave you. By purchasing that phone and doing what you did, you voided your warranty. It was repairable by other means, but you acted without thinking and returned a bricked phone (your own fault) to Verizon for a working phone, so you could attempt to **** it up like the last one. Stay away from XDA, you make us look bad.

I'm not going to resort to name calling, nor will I wish any bad luck upon you, OP.
I will, however, ask you this: If you knew enough to come here to post, then why didn't you know enough to look in the subforum two below this one titled Droid Bionic Android Development, and specifically at this post which is hovering in the top 5 or so responded to posts - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1262540
I mean, reading the first post provides you with a link to http://briefmobile.com/droid-bionic-receives-fastboot-recovery-files which tells you in no terms that this is a good potential fix for
This Fastboot XML zip package could potentially assist bricked users with recovery back to the stock state. Motorola’s created a new file format for recovery that allows Bionic users to recover from a case of messed up software.

- Well, last I checked, the Moto DROID original (I bought one on drop day back in Nov 2009, so I do have a little history with this device of my own) is also a Google Android device.
The reason everyone is getting angry with you is that you basically committed insurance fraud this way, and on top of that, you posted back as if you are entitled to commit said fraud. Those are the facts, and thus everyone is calling you names.
IMO, what you did was wrong, and lawfully, you should be prosecuted. But that is neither here nor there. If the VZW analysts . Moto analysts find enough evidence they may decide to do something - they may not. Who knows?
Next time, look around - this is a developer community, after all, and chances are you really haven't bricked your phone. These guys and gals eat, sleep, and breathe Android.
And they do it well.
"rationalised ****" lol OMG am i ever!!! I will own that!
Some of you actually make sense with the link between me and my "asshattery" and returning my droid. But most of you want to call names and well friends i was just honestly trying to help a community out with what i had suffered through. Ignorantly i have offended you... which was never intended. I assumed that most people are curious cats like myself. And for all of your info so i can put an end to this insurance fraud bs i bought the phone full price and got my second phone at an upgrade cost (had to use my wifes upgrade).... Not free. Hence the sad face in my first post. So all this prosecution crap... no. Voided warranty... yep! And knowingly so... Now some of you are going to retaliate "youre stupid for screwing up your phone and not check online to fix it" well short answer to that is i did check and was unable to find a cure and given some time i probably would have... but well the easy way to say this is hacking is an expensive hobby if it wasnt my phone itd be my comps processor for overclocking it too much (which ive done a number of times)... oh and someone posted about most people know not to try this on an encrypted bootloader... honest to god i didnt think it would effect it at all due to the fact that all i was doing was trying to boot an ARM image off an sd card... and have yet to find why that had any effect on the boot... Oh and another thing this was my very first post here... telling me to leave you guys alone cuz i make you look bad... that hurt :-(

The level of hypocracy and irony in this thread is astounding
This post started out about putting Ubuntu on a device. An operating system founded on community and sharing with open arms and friendliness. And the person who was attempting it was met with NOTHING but hate and persecution for how he went about resolving a very stressful and worry some situation.
Just cause someone does not handle a situation the way you see that they should, does not give you the right to throw insult after insult at them. Even if there is already a "hate filled band wagon" rolling by. In this community of developers who are presumably good hearted people, why is it not one person stepped up to make this into a real development thread???
I am not a developer and can barely write one line of code in Python. So I wouldn't be able to lend a hand. But as I am on the look out for a completely open device on the Verizon network, I am very interested in being able to put other operating systems on a phone. Especially as Ubuntu will be developing a dedicated phone OS in the next 2 years to go along with their computer and (soon to come) Smart TV OS line up.
Does anyone know of a thread that is honestly trying to get a Verizon phone unlocked to run other OS's?? This one is clearly resided to nothing but childish batter and remarks.
Good on the original poster for trying to keep his cool for the most part though.
**Edit: He did not commit insurance fraud, as I have paid fro the same insurance before and it specifically states that you will be guaranteed a new phone no matter what the issue. Even if it was your fault. It is justified by having to pay for it when you buy the phone, as well and needing to pay a deductible to receive a new phone. I actually put my D1 under the wheel of a car just to get a new phone. Cause I waited too long to learn about rooting and Verizon did an update that blocked root access. And the phone was getting to be sooo slow no matter how few processes I had running or few apps I had installed, that I couldn't take it anymore. Sometimes it would take 3 to 4 seconds just to move left or right on the home screen. I paid 50 dollars and got a Droid 2 Global as a replacement and rooted it with Z4 within 1 hour of getting the phone. Overclocked and tethered it within the first day. The only gripe I have with it is you can't put real custom Roms with custom kernels on this "Global" version cause the boot loader is still locked. Hence why I will not buy another phone that can not have the bootloader unlocked at all.
im pretty sure he didnt use the insurance but the warranty rather, insurance you pay for and pay when you get a replacement. I dont think he paid a dime after bricking his phone. that is where everyone is like wtf?
I did this as well.
I also tried to install ARM Ubuntu on my Bionic. It failed to install. I have not rebooted yet, do you have any suggestions that will save my device? I usually would have backed up the device, but I was so excited about Ubuntu that I forgot fo do so. I'm running .893, rooted (obviously). The only backup I have is from becore I rooted. Thanks.

[Q] So I let a stranger use my rooted Note to make a call. Have I been hacked?

I was walking down the street (in the dark, alone, in London) when a stranger asked me if I could call a number on his behalf and ask them to call him back.I did so; during the call he put the phone to his ear to say something like "Call me, it's urgent... bye" then he returned the phone. Here's where it got fishy.
Now first of all I have a rooted phone- either Rocketrom V21 or V22... and it has crashed during a call once before. But as the stranger returned the phone it appeared to have restarted, and I've not seen that before. It was showing the "Galaxy Note N7000" screen. Being suspicious I removed the battery until I got home. Then (just now) I made a backup in CWM, and it's switched off.
My question is, could he have somehow hacked my phone by making the call? If somebody knows this is just not possible I will be quite relieved.
Kind regards in advance
Relax bub that would be just a random reboot!
SHOT from my LOADED GT-N7000!!
He was probably just pressing the power button as he was holding it and then touched one of the "power off" buttons on the pop-up as he gave it back??
Either that or he cloned it like in the show "Person of Interest" but I highly doubt it
It must have been Skynet at the other end of the line if you got hacked that quickly.
Maybe it was Steve Jobs back from the dead cuz he wanted to see what was taking down his empire...he was so pissed at the fact, he realized he could have made the iPhone 5.3"and completely ruled the entire universe... So out of anger trying to put the phone in dfu mode he accidentally shut it off!

So, you were good hearted to hand your 500 GBP precious marvel to a complete stranger, but then you became suspicious that he might have hacked you? You should be forever grateful to him that he was good enough to give it back Unless you are some very important MI6 agent and hacking your Gnote is more precious to this stranger than simply walking away with it - I'd simply laugh at your funny story, like a parent laughs at his children when they are being chased by monsters in the bedroom And because I highly doubt that a MI6 agent or any other person who handles classified information will ever root their phones and install a custom ROM, I should really just start laughing ..
lol
LOL guys I'm laughting since 10mins reading your comments C'mon poor him he feared himself stop kidding him LoL the only right answer was "don't worry dude that was just a coincidence"

That poor bastard probably wanted to steal it, but after seeing it crash from a simple phone call decided it was a piece of ****. You got lucky it was rooted and unstable

Nice idea for an app. "is my droid hacked?" and then every time users hit "check", is should say: your droid has been hacked! Send it to (my adress) asap!
Reminds me how fool I was 7 years back.
I was abusing some people on yahoo. One of them told me they would hack my computer. And strange things (yahoo booters) started to happen. And I thought my machine was hacked.
@OP it was just a coincidence your phone restarted. Or flash the firmware again, make a clean installation by wiping data.
Wow, you let a stranger use your EXPENSIVE PHONE?? I don't know many people who would do that...it's like asking for troubles in my opinion.....You are definitely lucky that the person didn't have any bad intention.
if a stranger ask me if they can use my phone i will tell them to get their own phone... I don't even let my wife use it.
..
There are way worse things that could happen by letting a stranger use your phone (and it's highly unlikely you were hacked.) I had a friend that let someone use their phone a couple of times and they spent 5 years in federal prison because of it. The other person was under investigation for gang related activities (drugs) and the number they called was being monitored, too. Since my friend's phone called the phone number being monitored, when the cops busted everyone in the big conspiracy, they picked up my friend, too.
He fought it and sold his house to pay over $100,000 in legal fees, but still lost and went to federal prison. The record of his phone calling that number were all they needed to convict him. So there are way worse things to worry about when lending your phone to strangers than just being hacked.

Has anyone else been the victim of maliciious adverts while visiting XDA?

I recently was on this site using my phone and (I'm not going to go back and figure out which advert was the culprit it's not my job) became the victim of the ransomware virus. I factory reset my phone rather than try to manually remove it. I had disabled my adblockers because though I can't afford to send money for your efforts (if I could I would but alas I live on less than $300 a month after rent and bills) I do feel like I should at least give something back and for now allowing myself to be subjected to 3rd party commercials is the best I can do. However this ended when that happened to me. You (XDA) has to put more effort into vetting the people who pay you to put their adverts on your site and or check to see that those adverts aren't being altered and used to mess with your reputation by attacking your visitors. Initially I was shocked that XDA may be a scam then after rationality set in I dug around and saw that the only fault (hopefully) of XDA is a lapse in security and that they too have been the victim of those green hat hackers. If that is the case, which I believe is the case you need to do something about it.

Sorry to hear that .some pop ups do show up when I'm searching threads with my phone but I usually ignore them and close the page . I'm happy to say I've never gotten anything bad from using XDA.
I have no problem with xda so far. I have joined this forum since 2014
But, my friend has problem. He cancels his registartion as new member because of this:

Yes, I had been subjected to a lot of malicious ads while using XDA on Android for a while, especially opening of websites that make the phone vibrate a lot and you can not go back from unless you close the tab. Really annoying. I haven't had this problem lately though.
I encountered this too. Not on XDA but when surfing Internet in general on phone.
I never use the build in Android browser any more but Chrome or Firefox app. Never had it since than anymore.
I root all phones and for those who do also root: freeze the standard Android browser in Titanium Backup.
