[Q] Backup SIM choice in Contacts - G 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to backup and restore the choice of SIM assigned to each Contacts number?
When I wiped and restored my phone recently, all of my Contacts were restored from my Google account, but the choice of SIM for each number had reverted to the default "ask each time". This is understandable, since the dual-SIM support has been added by Motorola, not Google, but it'd be useful if the SIM preference could be backed up and restored in a similar manner to other data.
I use Titanium Backup, but restoring the "Automatic SIM selection" data doesn't appear to have any effect on any of my Contacts entries. None of other the entries on Titanium's Backup/Restore page leap out at me as a suitable alternative, assuming the data is actually backed up already.

Old Email account association

Recently i Flashed my rom to have the TF3D interface for the HTC Diamond, works fine, except for the landscape view but thats not a major issue. I backed up all of my file fine and everything is ok. when i go to restore my backup all of my emails from previous are still there which is fine, my problem is that they are not associated with an account just yet from my newly flashed rom, also when i do set up a my account (gmail) the device sees the settings from the original emails and will not allow me to save the account as it was before.
Any Help
Try setting up the account BEFORE restoring the backup.
PIM Backup for example doesnt let you restore if there's no account of the same name already setup so you can't get it wrong.
Might be different with whatever backup software you use though.

Backup SIM Contacts

How can I do this?
I've tried PIMBackup but it only seems to backup contacts that are stored on the phone itself.
Cheers.
If you go into SIM Manager and select all then copy to contacts. All your contacts (including SIM contacts) can then be backed up using PIMBackup.
Yeah, but I want to keep them only on the SIM card

Titanium Backup: How to backup sound/contact settings?

There are certain things I'm not sure how to back up using Titanium Backup. I was hoping someone from the community would be able to help me.
I need to back up my sound settings. Ringtone selection, ringtone volume, notification sound selection, Vibrate on keypress on/off, etc. All of these settings I need to back up.
Also, my contacts settings need to be backed up. I sync my contacts with Google, so the actual contacts themselves I don't need to store on my external SD. I just need to store the settings that state which groups to sync (My Contacts, CoWorkers, etc). I also like to disable syncing to my SIMM card, and I'd like those check boxes to be remembered as well.
Any help? Thanks.
Try backing up "Contacts Storage" in TiBu. It backs up contacts along with favs info. Try seeing if it backs up the additional things too.
I hope you're backing these up to restore them on the same ROM...
If so, then I just suggest doing a total backup. You can't really miss out anything that way.

[Q] best non-root backup?

So my phone died and is now miraculously working. So now I am backing everything up in case it happens again.
Here's the thing. Google sync never works perfectly for me and the HTC backup doesn't either.
I've tried MyBackup in the past but whenever I used it it would mess up the contacts. It backed them all up but upon restoring each entry of a contact (i.e. home phone, mobile home, notes, etc.) became a new contact with that name. So instead of having one Bob in my contact list I would have six bobs, one with the cell number, another with an email, and so on.
I was wondering what backup apps you guys could recommend that restore the contacts properly. I only care about the contacts. MyBackup works well with SMS and call logs so if need be I can use different apps for different backups and what I need now is a good contact solution.
Thanks
Helium from Clockworkmod. Its the best method of backup for non rooted users IMHO. https://www.clockworkmod.com/carbon
I have never experienced a problem restoring my Google account contacts, I take it you have removed the account and tried to set it up again to see if it will let you save the contacts. You can verify that they are saved if you log onto gmail when using a browser.

Click to collapse
Thanks for the suggestion but trying out the free one it backs up apps but the people/contacts app doesn't show up in the list meaning it doesn't do what I need...

backup and restore

Does the phone support the native Android backup and restore including sms, apps, etc
There are two types of backups available, one by Sony and one by Google. Not sure what you mean by "native Android".
Sony's backup and restore can backup SMS and apps in addition to contacts, call log, home screen settings, system settings, and calendar.
Google's backup includes app data, call logs, system settings, Google calendar, Google contacts, and SMS. The only option is to backup to Google Drive, unlike Sony's where you can choose to backup locally to the SD card, an external USB device, or to Sony's cloud service.
I should mention from past experience that I've had varying degrees of success in restoring from Sony's backup feature. Sometimes it'll hang at 50% indefinitely, sometimes only some options can be restored successfully, other times it works perfectly.
I recommend you use both services unless you have some particular beef with your data being stored on Google's servers.
I've tested both and Googles doesn't ever seem to back up SMS but all the other bits are fine (and restore fine).
Sony's definitely is a bit out of date I think as it has trouble backing up lots of the bits and even fails on app backups sometimes.
