I guess hindsight is 20/20, but don't leave your personal belongings unattended if you don't want them to get stolen.
You could always try calling your phone. You could have tried calling a security guard to assist you if the thief turned up in the vicinity.
But since this occurred a while ago the best you can do now is just to file an insurance claim with Asurion.
Personally, I would be more worried about identity theft rather than the cost of replacing a phone. I suggest you immediately go change your Google Account password.
Did you have GPS and your "My Location" enabled? If so, track yourself down. lol
Find your IME and have your phone permanently disabled. Should be on the box.

really??? you put your very exspensive phone down in plain sight and walked away from it in a crowded area and when you got back it was gone?? wow i never would have though people could be so cruel, with the economy kicking ass the way it is there should be no reason for anyone to steal anything, we all have enough money to just go out and buy whatever it is that we want. prices are down on everything and my wages are up so i have loads of money in the bank and plenty in cash too.........
oh wait nvm that was all a dream, you screwed up and should have known better than to leave your phone on a table at the mall, no offense but you made a stupid mistake, change all your passwords and call t-mo/asurion

Come on guys..give the kid a break. Lilray, u asked what u should do, so I'll answer.
Kick ur self in the ass for leaving ur phone on a table in a food court at a mall with hundreds of people. I hope ur insurance laughs at u and refuses to cover on grounds of stupidity.
Oh, and before u unleash a childish and enraged response at me... remember, it won't make u smarter.

I use an app called Pinpoint or something like that. You send a text to your number (you would use someone elses phone or e-mail or something obviously) with just the word "Locate" and it bounces back with the exact location. Unfortunatly the thief will likely notice the text and shut off the phone. However if you keep your phone LOCKED then you won't have to worry about it. Another unfortunate possibility is that the thief will also more then likely pull out your sim.
In regards to the "keeping the gps locate off to conserve battery" do this.
Download and install Locale. Set up a rule with a high priority (move it to the top) that when you recieve a call from a specific number it will turn on your GPS. Then track it down that way. There is also Latitude with Google, Loopt, etc that can give you an idea of where your phone is as long as they didn't clear or wipe your data. But as I said... if you keep your phone LOCKED they can't do that in the first place. Which buys you some time because they will have to research to find out how to wipe the phone. Since most people would use a computer at HOME... you might be lucky enough to track him down there. Just make sure you have a 'black and white' with you and be prepared to give evidence that it's your property. The G1 box has the IMEI and if you don't have that call T-Mobile (if you got it from them) and they can give you the IMEI over the phone.
Hind sight is always 20/20, but you will get a new phone and being careless is a bad habit. And bad habits are hard to break. So you'll likely do it again even though you say that you've learned your lesson. So take precautions next time (if there is a next time).
1) NEVER LEAVE YOUR STUFF UNATTENDED.
2) Have security preventions (such as system lock) on your device.
3) Have some software to recover your device should you not do #1 and/or #2.
I've been doing the theft and investigations line of work for about 6 years and I have caught 8 people and helped recover about 20 lost/stolen equipment. I'm so confident in recovery (as long as the preventions are already in place) that I've risked my Tilt by setting it out as bait just to see if anyone would take it WHERE I WORK. It turned up missing in less then an hour! I tracked it down the next day with the coordinates that it sent me.
It turned out that one of my supervisors found it and took it home. BUSTED! The next day he resigned. So... trust no one. Keep your **** locked, backed up and on you at all times! Even at home! (Caught my girl sneaking through it a couple of times ).

next time have your own mind and make a better decision. android gets stolen and you need to locate it, Yes theres an app for that....
It is always nice to see so many helpful people who never make mistakes.
Anyway call your provider and tell them your phone got stolen. That way they can put a freeze on the SIM (and IMEI if you are in Europe). Then deal with insurance and get it replaced. Not a big deal.
Personally I have locale running but would not bother trying to recover a stolen phone. It is not precise enough to track down the phone in realtime. Sim Checker could prove useful but I am not sure it would be worth the effort if the phone is insured. Remote Wipe would be the direction I would go. The hardware can be replaced but the personal info on the phone I would just as soon not get into a stranger's hands.
You still have to pay even if the insurance covers for your stolen phone. That's what i heard? Not entirely sure though. Next time be more careful.. I never leave my phone out of my sight .
So.... my car got stolen (from a underground "secure" parking spot too), and my Nexus one was in the car. And no we didn't find the guys who took it, but we did recover the car relatively in tack.
now the question. I loved my rooted Nexus One. Had lots of fun with it and it did everything I needed. But it was damn expensive as I bought it for AT&T.
The Samsung Captivate came out for AT&T.
Do I fork over the funds for a nexus one? $500 +
Or do I pick up a samsung Captivate ~$200...
or wait for some other option ....
dreamflux
If you do a ton of things that can only be done when rooted, a N1 will probably be your best option. I'd also wait a bit and see some of the reviews that the Captivate gets from different news sites.
Shouldn't your insurance cover that?
No matter what phone you get, it will never compare to the quick experience of the N1.
Sure, you might get a phone with a better screen, slightly better proc, or whatever, but
no matter what phone you buy, I don't think there will be anything QUITE like owning the
officially sanctioned 'google phone'. I think you'll miss always having the latest version of
android running at all times.
@GldRush98 no.... AT&T doesn't offer insurance on the google phone, and the policy of the car didn't cover personal items in the car....=/
@hollywooder - yah.... You've definitely described my sentiments.... that and I have many many peripherals.... but the idea of realizing that my phone would have effectively cost me over a $1000 is a bit tough to swallow.
If I were you, I would probably go with Captivate.
I'd be missing the trackball and flash though.

AT&T doesn't? Man, that sucks. T-Mobile insures the Nexus One!
On top of everything else, I'd seriously think about purchasing WaveSecure for your next phone whether it be an Android, iPhone, or Blackberry. Well worth it for the ability to do realtime tracking of where your phone is. Hell, you could have probably found the guys still in your stolen car if you had it. Just me .02
@chesh420 I do have wave secure... that was part of the reason why I was able to find the car...was able to track it to the last known area before the battery died. Found our car a few blocks away. but alas the phone was long gone, either they got rid of it some how, or haven't turned it back on yet, or my nexus might have recieved some other horrible fate.
but yes.... A great endorsement to WaveSecure. .
But yes, Wave Secure was great

Keep watching, the bozos might turn it back on after they figure out what a MicroUSB is. Or they'll sell it to Bob's Pawn....
Note to self... Write down IMEI.
That's a bummer...hopefully it will turn back up soon! At least there's a chance with WaveSecure.

Damn, that sucks. Insurance companies do whatever they can to get out of paying
but what if the low life finds a way to remove wavesecure? isnt there a way to stop them from deleting apps like wavesecure or mobile defense so we are still able to track the phone down?
i'd get a g1 and wait for the next great thing from htc and google. i've said it in a few different threads now, the 3g issues and no physical keyboard are the reasons.
given, i won't buy anything on contract.
when you used wavesecure to find your car, can you remote wipe before locating, and the app still gives you a location ? did you try instamapper and decide on wavesecure instead ?
I'm recommending the Captivate to my friends and family... but to a guy like you and me... I can't recommend the Samsung until a little more testing surfaces. Sure it has a little better specs but would you be happy using their crappy software forever if you are unable to root and flash custom roms?
I used to cook with Da_G back when we had Samsung Blackjacks and the Samsung stuff was pretty tight lipped compared to HTC. You'd think that company's would figure out that being able to mod phones increases sales. They should know that the bottle neck is the carriers contracts and we upgrade asap regardless.
Open the phone up, let us tinker and make it everything we can dream of, which will bring in more customers.
I know lots of the Samsungs can be flashed, which hopefully helps with unlocking the potential of the Captivate. Maybe pick you up a cheap $20 pre-paid to use until some more info comes out.
Make sure you call your carrier and get the IMEI banned, they will not be able to use the phone anywhere
@player911 - yah.... that's the way i'm feeling.... I think that ultimately spending another $500 for an N1 for another 5-6 months seems a bit pricey for my modding happiness. I'll hang in there and head back to my little nokia n95 brick for a while.... and see what I can find on craig's list for a used one for cheap. But yah.... I mirror your sentiments on the samsung
@xXJay_RXx I think Wave secure had an additional install that would notify if it was removed or something like that.... I can't seem to remember....
@ohgood - You can remote lock on wave secure with a message that pops up to whoever turns it on. It can say "return for a reward", or in my case " contact the police RE: case #". I left it on lock for a while and the sent the notification to remote wipe after we found the car and wrote off the nexus one.
@p00r -can't remember to imei #
If it were me, I would not buy it again and wait out for something else. My reason is because the N1 is a really expensive phone off contract and it just doesn't seem like a good deal as it was 6 months ago. There are and probably will be better options for the same price.
If the price were lower, I would go for it. But it doesn't seem like you can find a new one without forking over full price.
yah.... especially since now my only choices are ebay and criags list..... =/ Long Live N1
Hey guys,
Thinking about pulling the trigger on a NC, but I don't want to pay $200-$300 as I already have a Nexus S and a Nexus 1. The NC is planned to be used for light Internet browsing. I found two "broken" NCs on eBay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/160605400390 (Edit: Description for this one says "Lines on screen")
http://cgi.ebay.com/160605383436
The listing are ending soon, but I'm afraid to pull the trigger. I dunno what could cause these units to be broken besides:
1) Battery drain/issues
2) Water damage
3) Main component damage
3.1) Video issues (added)
The XDA part of my brain is telling me that the guy is selling it because of a bad flash but...if he's smart enough to flash, he's smart enough to read XDA and fix it. Plus, I hear NCs are pretty much unbrickable.
So, what do you think? Has anyone encountered things like this before? Should I pull the trigger?
Thanks!
Why don't you ask him what is not working? NC is unbrickable (software talking) but probably they have hardware problems.
I shot the seller a question before I posted this topic, but the NCs don't look damaged. (from the outside anyway) Just figured I'd poke my head in and ask around. I'll await a response and let you all know.
See edit above on the OP.
Have you ever bought a broken used car? And the guys says "O.. only this and that is broken" then you find out its even worse then what he said. And your no mechanic. Just my two cents I've made those kind of mistakes before... its not worth it. Especially if your no "mechanic".

I bought a broken one off eBay for a project that didn't really need the screen to work. Outside of the fact that it looked like a wolverine went crazy on the back and corners, the screen looked ok when turned off. But when you turn it on, the screen goes all white except for a few lines across the middle that appear to be displaying the UI.
Not a problem for me, but you might want to pass on these.

Hi!
While wasting time on eBay, I've come across a listing for a Korean version of the Note (E160K). Even though I have my own awesome N7000, it seems like this may be a kind of cool thing to own, as it has the TV tuner and NFC. In fact, that's part of the reason I want it, as it just might be of benefit of my own Note. So my questions, if anyone can answer them, are:
1) Can the NFC or LTE modules be removed, transferred to my Note, and made to work;
2) Is it worth it?...The bid is approaching $100 now, and apparently it's in less than good cosmetic condition.
TIA if you even read this I know its a probably dumb idea, but I have compulsive issues when it comes to buying stuff online..
EDIT: Yeah. so, the auction's ended now anyway, so unless this is any actual use to anyone I suppose it could be deleted (..right?...mods?)
Hi folks, can the bootloader of the Samsung A6 be unlocked?
If not, I will not buy it at Metropcs.
If it can be, does this require that I use something called Samsung Knox?

So my girl was at Metro cause that's where she was going to perform the old upgrade and she done wanted my help in picking out a phone. Like some sort of electronic Ninja, I quickly downloaded XDA and Looked into the A6 and right there before my eyes I seent some rootin and I think I maybe even saw tootin but it was when I saw custom kernels and some of dem dare custom Roms... well hell , I yelled... yippie kieyie yay! cause I know Samsungs pretty good. You see, well that's the part of the story where things get a little Dicey because turns out I didnt know a Cow Pattie from a Hamburger because If you'd seen the look on my face, you'd swear I'd seen a water skiing turtle or maybe an Alien Cow Rustler when some city boy did a Copperfield on the OEM lock in developer options. I was crosseyed because I had to keep checking because this had never happened to me before and while were on this subject Im pretty sure you would have to be a very, VERY unique kind of wanker to even think of such things and Id like to spit some Beech Nut in that Dudes Eye cause the good lord knows, hes got it cumin. Sorry for the rant but dangit you'll I should've read a little closer I guess....thanks Sammy you stole my fun switch. I'd rather take my chances and have a phone get stolen with a oem lock than to not have one at all you ol carpet baggers!!
Don't bother buying this phone if you're worried about unlocking this phone. I've wasted nearly 3 week trying to do so with no luck.
