I love the new features of multi window but I hate that when it's on it appears every time you open up an app. Is there a way to stop that from happening?

If you're describing what I think you are, the way you disable it is by going to settings>multi window> and check the "Open in multi window view" option.

That is not a way to stop it from popping up every time you open an app. That just let's you open multi window in split screen view in landscape mode.

What exactly are you talking about you're not clear at explaining your issue? What's popping up?

I explained it pretty clear. The multi window side panel that contains the apps keeps popping up every time you open an app. You can swipe it away but once you open up another app it pops out again. The old multi window didn't do that, you just opened it up when you needed it but not this one.

You might have to post a screenshot because I don't know what a "multi window side panel" is, and I'm very familiar with my phone

Okay nevermind I know what a multi window side panel is

Yeah I don't have that issue the only way my multi window side panels opens up if I press and hold the back button.
Did you activate the option that let's you swipe down diagonally from the status bar to get a pop up of the app you're in?
The option should be in the multi-window settings. I don't know the exact name of the option because I don't have my phone with me at the moment but certain roms have that happen when it's on.
Basically turn off swipe down for pop up and it should work fine.
Essentially the below:
"Pop-up Multi Window
You can also turn any app into a pop-up window and adjust the size. Open an app from the Multi Window tray. Drag diagonally down from either the top left or right corner. The app screen will now appear in a pop-up window."
Are you using any xposed?
It might also be your Rom. Try changing roms

That's it popup view shortcut! Turning that off might help.
Definitely needs to offer more info. What app? What Rom? What about a screenshots or screen record so we can see. The gentleman who asked for better explanation was correct. Need more info to help you.

I have noticed that when using certain apps (ES File Explorer and Avast! being two examples) that if I enter an "app info" screen from these apps it opens in full screen with no apparent method to exit the screen short of returning to home. Am I missing some gesture? Entering "app info" from default "settings" allows me to back out - but no such option exists in these cases. What is more if I do go to home then restart the guilty app using a shortcut it puts me back to my last location for that app, which of course is stuck in the "app info" screen.
edit: Forgot I'm using Nova launcher
Me to, why does that matter?

My particular problem was that I would enter the info screen through a misclick, attempt to return to the previous screen, use home to access desktop then end up back inside the same (dead end) info page when I attempted to reopen explorer through the desktop. As a novice to tablet interfaces I found this circular dance at best, unintuitive.

There is a solution. But you have to install an app. It is GMD Gesture Control Lite. It is free but sometimes nags you to buy the full version. I found out about it because another user wanted to hide the status/navigation bars. The app adds the ability to add finger swipe gestures for specific actions. One swipe that comes with the free version is back. So with that installed, just give the pre-defined swipe action and it goes back. And if you buy the full version it adds the swipe to hide or show the status/nav bar. So, if you give it that swipe, the back bar appears. I found I had trouble with the multi-touch tablet swipes, so I configured it for phone so it only took single touch swipes.
I could see where that app would be handy in a lot of situations. I am going to keep it installed. May even recommend it in my tips thread.

I tried that out but couldn't get consistent behaviour from it. More often than not a gesture wouldn't register.
Ok misunderstood your problem. Yes I've seen that too. Have to kill the app in manage apps

I'm really liking the new ROM, but I am curious what Halo does? Is it just a faster way to launch certain apps? The app says is optimized for Paranoid Android, but I assume you tweaked it to work well with AOIP. Help? Thanks.

Its reads notifications with you whitelist them and can open them in a floating window also you can add up to 6 apps and use them as a shortcut and they will open in a floating window. For example if you was on tube and you got a text you can text that person back without it interfering with your youtube activity.

Nice. I see how to add the apps running in the background, which can send notifications, but how do i get the icon on the homescreen?

Go to aoip settings and go to halo setting turn it on ypu can also customize it and when your done slide down in the notificarion tray you shoyld see a circle press it and it should be on your home screen. Now you need to double tap to drag it where you please.

Yeah it takes getting use to but its good for multi tasking if you have the need to and it doesnt kill you last activity which is nice about floating windows because it just overlays over your current activity
A few weeks ago the "Recent Apps" display changed on my Z3C.
Before, I would get a nice bright display of all open apps.
Now, I get a full brightness trash can icon, but the app thumbnails are all dimmed. It's difficult to make out the apps in a reasonably light environment. This screenshot may not look so bad, but in bright light, it's quite bad.
How can I restore full brightness to the app thumbnails?
(The phone is running stock Android 4.4.4.)

That's strange. I don't know what that trash can is for. I don't have a trash can on the screen when I tap the recent apps button. Have you restarted your phone lately?

It's a problem with the Recent apps small app. Or some small app of that sort. Quick multitasking. Delete that and you'll be fine

Fast app switcher small app. That's the one.
Sent from my D5803 using XDA Free mobile app
No need to delete anything. This "garbage can" shows up when long-pressing any of the small apps, to allow removing them from the quick list. Try long-pressing something again, and if it won't work - clear the app data for fast app switcher.
Wow. I never would have figured that out! I never use Small Apps, but apparently sometime pressed one.
Just now I long-pressed one, and -- poof! -- it was deleted and the trash can disappeared. I have no idea what Small App I just deleted. LOL!
Damn and here i had to delete it :'D

My Samsung Pay launch widget is gone (the one you swipe up from the bottom of your phone to make a payment). Anyone else have this problem?

Are you using an adb command to hide the nav bar? Can you still swipe up with the screen off?

No, hadn't used any adb commands. I can swipe up from my lock screen as usual, but that's never been on that screen. From the always-on display, that's a 'no', but again that widget doesn't appear on that screen.
Just two days ago I saw this and enabled the feature. As you can see, this setting is now greyed out! That's not a good sign. I've tried toggling the setting off and rebooting, but no change. I can still use Samsung Pay, but I have to open the app itself.
I've also toggled all the of these off and on, no change. In gonna turn them off, reboot, then see if I can enable them again.
Well that didn't work either! Grrrrr...does not show up!!!
That is super weird. Yeah I dunno, I had a similar issue but it was because of a gestures app hiding the navbar
I remember the Samsung pay thing at the bottom of my screen also. I think it disappeared or I disabled it. Forgot which .

You have to have Home Screen access turned on within Pay to use the swipe up fingerprint gesture

I had that same issue and I believe the fix was to add your card to favorites in the Samsung Pay App.

Hi
After the pie upgrade I can't find multiwindow settings or combine apps in the recents apps window.
Where are those options?
Thanks!
Long press on the app icon on the top of the windows in the recent apps section and you can see options for split screen and pop up view.

Not sure why everyone says you have to long press. All I have to do is just tap the icon and that menu pops up.
