[Q] Internal Storage issue? - Galaxy S 4 Active Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. 2 weeks ago, I updated my i9295 to the official 5.0.1 update. Upon checking the internal storage, I notice something strange with the amount of space used. Thinking that there are some files from CM12 that have not been deleted yet, I decided to factory restore my phone. However, after restoring all my apps and data, the issue still persists.
From the screenshots attached below, it says that the Used Space takes 4.60 GB. Clicking on that, I'm presented with a more specific breakdown. However, if I were to add everything, it only amounts to 1.28 GB. Same thing applies to the Miscellaneous Files; it says that it takes 4.39 GB but adding the size of every file, it totals to just 2.52 GB. How can I know what files are in the unaccounted 5.19 GB?

[Q] Internal memory question

Hey guys, I tried searching to see if this was possible a repeated question but didn't find anything so I am sorry if it has already been covered and I missed it.
Anyways, a few days ago I put cyanogen froyo on my hero but didn't like it so I reverted back to my nandroid backup. Then I tried 2 different 2.1 roms that allowed LWPs, ZenHero and Regaw 2.1. I ended up reverting back to my original nandroid backup but now my internal memory only shows 34MB free, which was previously 16 until I ran cachecleaner. I'm somewhat of a noob to android and have been doing a lot of reading on here before I make any change to my phone. But the 34mb seems abnormally low. Is there any possibility that some of the previous ROMs have left data on my phone which is causing this? If so how can I go about completely wiping all of them from my system?
Again, sorry if this has been covered. I tried my best to see if it has been asked before, and thanks for any advice you may have.
I've said it before but I am really impressed with the developers here and the friendliness and helpfulness of the community here.
Which ROM?
How many apps you installed?
Are you using A2SD?
If you not using A2SD which move the App to SD card then you will run low on space on /data.
I'm hoping you talking about Internal Phone storage memory.

1. Currently I am back on the nandroid backup of the original 2.1. I have put on cyanogen 2.2, ZenHero, and RegawMod on it previously. I used cyanogen twice so I was worried that maybe when I installed the second time that it installed again in a separate location taking up twice the space. If that makes sense.
2. I don't know the exact number but I wouldn't say it is anything large. Maybe in the 10-15 range. I went through the application manager and sorted by size, most of them were under 1mb with a few noteable exceptions (google maps, facebook, and soem other games around the 3mb range). I did notice that my contacts storage was 20+mb, probably because it synced with my facebook and downloaded everyones picture...not just my contacts. After clearing the cache for contacts storage it went down to 340kb. I lost the facebook sync, but it was beginning to annoy me anyway.
3. Not atm, however I should probably get on this since I just got a 4 gb class 6 sdhc. I haven't messed with the partitions yet though, baby steps.
Yes, I am talking about the internal storage. I have 3+gb free on my card.
It seems like Dalvik cache and /data/data must be using up the space.
I used to have 25 mb internal storage before I moved the apps to SD. I had space problem like this long time ago with 2.0 and 2.1. After I got mine 8 GB class 6 card two moths ago, I moved my apps to SD and my internal memory is around 60 MB since than. I haven't moved my dalvik-cache to SD.
If your using 2.1 deodexed version of the ROM, I'm guessing it normal for this ROM as it use more internal space for dalvik-cache.
Other guru might cheap in to correct my understand on deodexed version of the rom.

Thanks so much, I was concerned that I was somehow dwindling my memory down and fearful that another rom would brick my phone because of a lack of space. This question wasn't based on a complaint with the phone or rom, more of a request to hear something along the lines of "it's normal" to ease my mind.
Damn...I have CM6 Nightly 8-25 and I have 125 MB free of internal storage..Only have 10 apps installed. CM6 is the ****

[Q] Storage being used up somewhere?

Hey guys, I don't know how much available storage I had prior, however it was easily a GB free at LEAST as I put most of my media on my external sd-card.
I went to make a cwm backup before I flashed the latest CM nightly but stupidly forgot to tell it to backup to external storage.
Lo and behold, the backup failed and when I rebooted the phone I got notifications telling me that my storage is very low.
http://imgur.com/zjMiyGc - this screenshot shows that despite there being around 1/4 memory free (or otherwise uncategorised), I only have 229MB available.
I've looked in the clockworkmod folder and there's nothing there, but I can't figure out where all this memory has been taken up from?!
Is there any way I can locate the files/folder taking up the most storage on my device or has anyone encountered this issue before and know a fix?
I can't even download any new apps atm as they won't be installed due to low memory
are you using 4.2?
clear unused backup data from recovery.
also, disk usage from Play

[solved[ sm-t710 32 gb - internal capacity shows as 25.4gb total (correct?)

Hi there,
I'm trying to find out if this is the correct capacity listed under windows, I assume the missing GB is hidden away for system partitions, am I correct in thinking this?
I just had to re-flash my device because it said I only had 9 gb capacity... so I'm fairly distressed, I'm pretty sure 25.4gb is normal. (27,282,948,096.00 bytes). Let me know if yours is also (27,282,948,096.00 bytes).
Thanks. :fingers-crossed:
Edit:
It's 5:02 am and I remembered there is a storage area in options, apparently 6.57 gb is allotted to the system memory. Everything is back to normal.
Made this mistake again, for some reason re-partition kept checking when opening odin, was super tired last night and didn't notice.
I wasn't able to fix this with the entire image from sammy compressed into one (including hidden and pit files), I had to do it that way, then go into stock recover, wipe cache, wipe partition, go back to download mode, select the pit file individually in odin, flash it and see if it fixes it. 9 gb internal storage is not normal for this tablet, 25.4gb is.
Sorry for bumping but I nearly crapped my self because I couldn't remember how I fixed this so future reference for anyone.

Folder "OTHER"

Folder "OTHER"
UPDATED via OTA to the new OS version 4.1.3 and it works fine a Wonder. The only thing that I found strange and the "Other" folder that contains 7.04 GB of data before the upgrade What were ivece Just 800 MB. Someone can explain why the IOC and going rate for deleting data What are not necessary From the "Other"?
Thank you
OOS seems to be reserving storage space (around 3-4 GB) without filling it, likely in preparation for Google's seamless system update mechanism (updates are downloaded and saved in a reserved empty partition in the background, the phone then boots to the new partition on next reboot, reducing the amount of time needed for updates). However, 7 GB does seem rather excessive. Go into your internal storage and delete anything in the oem_log folder, there was an error a few updates ago that generated a bunch of bt-snoop logs without user permission. Also reboot your phone, as a current file system bug may be preventing the OS from recognizing free space after a file has been deleted.

How to delete temporary update files?

I have stock EVA-L09C432B391 build number
On my clean device I have only 21.2 GB out of 32 GB free space
According to Settings -> Memory and Storage, firmware takes 6.92 GB, Apps take 796 MB, Cached Data takes 25.31 MB, and Other take 51.52 MB, so the sum gives about 7.8 GB, so I should have about 24.2 GB free space left, but I have only 21.2 GB
SO where did the remaining 3 GB go?
I heard that the clean P9 should have about 25 GB space left for the user
I was recently doing a lot of updates using Firmware Finder, so I'm guessing that maybe there are some leftover update packages somewhere?
I tried wiping partition cache but it didn't help

Try using the cleanup function of the phone manager, or use, after you did the clean up, the storage manager option, there you can delete big files and hopefully your left over roms

I did this and still no success
I also tried uninstalling the Firmware Finder and no success either
I tried various methods, but no app can find these 3 GB files

Ok. so i calculated my storage to and it was also 3 GB off! I'm guessing that these are some files hidden from the user and not showing, but still a part of the operating system (for example it could be an other partition).

32 GB Internal Memory includes also invisible system partitions you could see only on the rooted phone or from TWRP (if you flash it)
