I have enabled tethering on my Nexus 6 on the Verizon network. I remember that with phones that had Verizon firmware there was also a build.prop edit to change a tethering provision from 1 to 0. I believe this blocked Verizon from checking if you were tethering your data. Is this needed in the N6? I dont see that same line in the build.prop on the N6. Can Verizon see that I am tethering with my unlimited data? Its not part of my plan. Thanks.
I see something written about changing a line in com.android.provider.settings under data/data however this XML file is empty , 0 bytes, on the Nexus 6 it appears.
After update any buildprop edits will be gone I think this might have been the one: net.tethering.noprivisioning=true
If by our rooted just out this at the end of your buildprop with an editor

I have done this and it tethers fine. My question is whether Verizon can see that you are tethering with your data? I don't have tethering in my plan.

Haha for some reason when I read "not part of your plan" I thought what you planned to do-along those lines (facepalm). I'm not sure what they can see in that regard.

Don't think it really matters. We been doing 30-100 GB/Month for years on Grandfathered plan. Even the app is a skin over the actual code. They are using Android native code for the tether. We are just hacking it back. That is why it so easy to get by. Don't think there a tether flag. Flag is amount of data used.
It's doubtful. Mine shows up as video.

No one has one from Verizon yet, but you can root it by fastboot OEM unlock, flash TWRP, and flash SuperSU. It will be just like any other Nexus from everything that I've read. There is not a separate Verizon model.

Also, if anyone knows how to replace the crappy carrier 3G/4G icons with stock AOSP ones, that would be greaaatt. Mmmkay.

If it's like the RAZR HD they are just images. Once the new root comes out with system read/write permissions it would be real easy to replace them. You could use a root explorer to unzip the apk and then replace the images then rezip it and rename it back to an apk.

Good afternoon,
I have had my motorola droid turbo for approximately two weeks now and noticed for the first time today that while trying to make a phone call I'm unable to use mobile data even over my wifi. Is this something that is still coming down the pipe for droid users? I seem to have run all of the updates possible that are available from Motorola as well as Android. I am Not Yet on lollipop so unable to test that.
Thank you for your assistance.

if you read through this forum you will know that u need to activate advance calling via settings on phone and also on the verizon website.
It is concerning that you don't even get data when connected to Wi-Fi. That should work out of the box.
Mine says upgrade to advance calling but is grayed out and can't click it, could this be because I disabled all Verizon's apps. Also does this upgrade mean that it costs more to use.

It is clear in the advanced calling faq from verizon that it does not.
If its greyed out, you didnt enable it on your account. I know this because you would have answered your own question regarding cost. This is a required step and even mentioned in this thread.
Come on guys, put in a little effort towards this.
I can read so no need for your comment at the end of your post if you would of read what I wrote you would see I said I disabled all Verizon's apps, and maybe that is why it was grayed out once I re enabled the apps that fixed the problem not because I had to go on there site to get it to work once it was enabled that page came up to sign up for it. Thank you.

Use one click root. You have to create an account and it cist around $30, but the at&t s5 is very tricky. They will do it for you by remote access to your computer. Youll need an internet connection on your computer.

I just got my s5 and it came with g900aucu4bof2.
I bought it because I knew the phone could be rooted because I have had it before. But now all I'm reading is since this update came OTA, that they cannot root it anymore and I'm like bummmmmed out
What I'm wondering is if there might be a way to revert the phone back to an earlier version somehow, or is this maybe only something Samsung can do?

I've been on XDA for three-four years now. Honestly many things are very undocumented. Ie around bootloader and stuff. DO NOT attempt to flash it. I am a flash/dev experienced person and have bricked two GS3s in one day doing this. Stay the **** away from bootloader evne if your phone is rooted. Stick to flashing Roms/Gapps/modem NEVER bootloader.
I returned my upgrade to ATT and found something on craiglist. You have to shp around though to just get the build no and spend some time on weekends going out to chec the phone yourself. Most plebs cant find it if you asked for it
Good luck man. And as already stated, yeah no one wrote this clearly before I decided to spend the time to order this phone online. Idiotic. Samsung ruined a lot of their brand locking it with knox
Look at the HTC 8/9/Nexus (comes unlocked still rootable, no external memory/battery though), Zenfone2 (only reason I didn't get this was lack of battery info, otherwise I would have jumped at it).
I tried the Sprint lg g4 mobile hotspot hack, its working but Sprint still sees my data usage which i used 90% already! Is there a way for Sprint not to see my usage? My firmware is zv6 please need help with this
If you root you can use WIFI Tether Router. That is why I never liked this method. But I don't think you will get flagged. Just don't abuse it.
By the way USB Tether works great and is legit. Bluetooth works too but pretty slow.
To clarify the question: are you trying to get unlimited data, as in you don't want Sprint to know how much data you are using on your plan, so you can just pay for 1 GB but have unlimited use?

That's not how it works. This allows you data through your phone up to your cap (then you hit overages). You have to be on an unlimited plan to get unlimited data.

There is absolutely, positively, without a doubt, ZERO way for you to hide your data usage from Sprint.
So long as a device on your account is registering to their network and requesting bandwidth, they're going to know who requested it.
If there were a way to use the network without registering your device, I can almost guarantee you that you wouldn't find the method on these forums. I'm on quite a few forums for reverse engineering, etc and just like with major holes that allow you to activate expensive software without paying for it, the method to do so would be kept a closely guarded secret in Elite forums where you'd have to prove yourself by being in VIP forums and not leaking anything, for a long time or be responsible for discovering hacks/exploits/etc.
When stuff like that is discovered, the more people know and exploit it, the more risky it is that Sprint will notice and patch the hole, or someone will tell a friend that's got a big damn mouth and next thing you know it's all over public forums like these and sprint pushes a network hot fix in less time than it takes the initial thread to have a second page of replies.
I didn't know hotspot wouldn't be available on the unlocked Note 8.
This is something that I use daily unfortunately. I must not have read enough into it before purchasing.
Is there anything I can do to get around this before I get rid of it?
Thanks,
April

I dunno. My T-Mobile "locked" phone has it.
My unlocked N8 has it. Works on Verizon.

what carrier are you?
Just bought my Note8 from tmo USA and it has hotspot. Buddy in Europe has also confirm this feather working on orange as well.
My unlocked Note 8 has it and it works running a tmo sim. Have tested it with my XPS 13, Alienware, 17, and my work GS6 running a Sprint sim.

Do you have the old "Unlimited Data Plan"?
This is my situation, maybe you can shed some light to a prospective buyer?

Some carriers don't allow it. BT and EE were on the same network but BT never allowed it. They do now, but shows its a carrier decision to offer it.

I gave up my old unlimited data a long time ago. I'm on a regular 16Gb plan now. I don't see how that matters though, I don't believe the carrier can determine if you are using the hotspot feature on an unbranded Note 8 as none of their services are baked into the firmware.
I have old unlimited data plan and the hotspot is working fine. I have the unlocked one.
It works on my SM-N950F/DS (Asian / EU version w/Dual SIMs)
I have CricketWireless
Happy about that as I never could get my Note 4 to work with CricketWireless as a HotSpot
