I don't like the way the colors are displayed on the nexus, i just want to get a more normal, realistic look, the way the orange on the google music app and the red on youtube looks really annoys me, have you had any luck trying to tone down the colors and get more accurate colors?
Install franco or leankernel then you'll be able to adjust colors. If you want to try it's best to use lean and set 6500k in Lkconfig, you would have to buy an app for franco.

Boo that's exactly what I didn't want to do, flash custom kernels, I've had so many bad experiences with custom kernels, specially with franco's, stutters, lags and I always end up flashing the stock image in the end
I'm gonna try and give lean kernel a try
It's the only way you can achieve what you want. Try lean or live with the stock color calibration.

I gave in and installed lean kernel and color control (kcal), I used the "reference" calibration of kcal but the ultra saturated reds and oranges drive me crazy, any recommendations?

Look for color profiles, if you wish to pay $5 for Franco kernel app, a large number of color profiles are already included so you can press on them and see the changes real time without having to input the values in.

He uses too aggressive of settings??? Google implemented his theory of settings in 5.1. Not to mention everything is totally configurable you can make it as aggressive or weak as you'd like

The Franco App is worth every penny for various reasons. But on the of the main ones is the included color profiles. personally, I find that the "vomer_ips" profile is perfect.

There's a new app "Calibrated Photo Viewer" on Play Store which is a gallery viewer with pre-calibrated color and gamma corrections for the Nexus 6. Both sRGB and Adobe RGB color spaces are supported.

So i notice now in 4.2 in developer options we have the option to force 4x multi sample anti aliasing. Should this improve gaming performance?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
As far as I know of Pc gaming, increasing anti aliasing increases graphics quality but reduces performance.. It might be that everyone is talking about better and sharper texts..
Yes the text is much better very crisp.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
Is it active by default..? Otherwise I don't see a reason of it being on dev options..
No, i enabled it.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
So text are crisp and clear when it is enabled or they are already crisp even it is not enabled.. Shortly what difference can you see when switched on/off?
I am not sure if the crisp text is anything to do with this option.

This should only work when playing a game since it's a 3d application. It will smooth out the rugged edges, and thus enhancing the visual quality.
This does nothing in normal usage tho'. So you won't notice it unless you are playing a game that's very "pixely".
I've lost the dev options in Settings
Is it in other path?

Yeah. I read about this a few weeks ago. Not sure why Google hid it though. Force 2d rendering benefits pretty much everyone. I am surprised its not on by default now. Ive never really encountered any apps that have issues.

Its really great that google implemented that, it makes android actually to a much better gaming platform for me. Now zoo the bad news: this wont work with our nexus because tegra 1/2/3 are the only gpu known to man that don't support msaa.
Yep, Nvidia Tegra implements CSAA https://developer.nvidia.com/csaa-coverage-sampling-antialiasing
So, will enabling this option, cause any problems on tegra devices?
A quick google search says that msaa on the tegra chip only shows up in open gl applications. got a game that runs in open gl? then msaa should make it look prettier by (as someone else stated) blurring out jagged edges. text in games should be better but im not quite sure how exactly msaa works using its edge detection. on my gaming rig i have amd and LOVE their msaa. Far superior to msaa and nvidias txaa (imo). msaa will blur text edges and everything for a really nice and sharp look on about everything on every game

Thanks for this thread
<---- Noob, ok now that is out of the way.
Thank you all so much for this thread. I finally got around to rooting my i717 and been playing with CM10, and AOSP The Collective. I flashed CM10.1 once, but because of all the screen tearing in landscape I couldn't play most of my games. I loved AOSP, but the kernel, I believe, will not let you move apps to SD which is a big deal to me. I finally went back to CM10.1 after finding out how to get the dev option to disable HW overlays and force GPU for 2d. I could not find this information in the Galaxy Note i717 forums.

Wrong thread?
Developers can set the level of anti aliasing for Tegra 3 in their code manually. Although this option for us might be useful for a particularly jagged game, I ran through Epics Citadel multiple times with 4x AA enabled and disabled without being able to discern a difference.
Maybe if someone finds a title that this developer option utilizes well they can post it to this thread.
As someone who has tried (and failed) to switch from iOS to Android in the past, I feel I should share this with other who maybe have the same problem.
I have tried some many android devices, HTC, Galaxy S, S2 then S3. Galaxy Note, you name it I've gave it a go.
Problem I always had was that it was too laggy or had too many things missing for me that I loved about iOS
I have once again taken the plunge with the Nexus 4.
I LOVE this phone. LOVE. It is everything a phone should be, to a point. It's the best android phone i've ever owned. I hate the look of touchwiz, never a massive fan of sense, the sheer beauty of the "people" app, should be enough to tell you that google has ARRIVED.
My only bug bears are the obvious lack of storage, which i'm actually doing suprisngly well with, like I have an N7 which I watch films / tv shows on, so the N4 is basically for music, along with spotify it's working like a dream (also have google play with 16,000 songs, which is working well, although download speeds are awful)
The other biggy, and this is the one is the battery life, I've tried franco kernel, cm10, stock kernel, etc etc. There's no two ways about it, with the screen turned on and using 3G it EATS the battery and that saddens me a lot. I'm lucky that I can charge it at work, but lordy lordy lord does it eat a lot. It's a shame, I'm hoping in the future they'll be a fix for this, I mean it's not a show stopper, but it's more annoying than anything else, seeing the battery go down as you use it for browsing and listening to music etc
Other than that, I think I've finally done it, I've finally broken the iOS spell and made the move. I'm delighted, the phone is lovely to look at, lovely to hold and use (and actually works unlike my f*cking iphone which dropped calls left right and centre)
I'm chuffed
Congrats man. It's pretty normal for a new phone to have horrible battery life at first, but then to get a big improvement with software updates.

ahh thanks man, appreciate the help
I cant help but think though, that phone manufacturers should stop worrying about siz and weight and just stick a slightly better battery in. I mean a couple off mm and a few grams is hardly gonna put people off buying a phone.
I know for me the first thing i look at is "Battery Life" not size and weight.
I mean look at the iphone 5, it's too ****ing thin, make it the same size as 4s and stick a bigger battery in ffs
Definitely I know for myself that I'm happy with anything below 1.5cm which we know would give a lot more battery life, shame we are stuck with manufacturer's going for thinner phones and the only company to buck the trend is Motorola however their phones currently suck .
Battery life is improving for me I have narrowed it down to the radio, it seems mobile data destroys it much more than ant other phone I have used...WiFi performance is amazing and idle well I can say its the best. This was on the matr1x 4.0 kernel, not stock however.
Not sure why mobile data kills this device but WiFi efficiency is through the roof at least

Battery life is definitely a problem when using a phone with mobile data on. That's Google's mistake with android 4.2 and hopefully be fixed on 4.2.2.
Also congrats on moving to Android. I also moved from iPhone to android. To nexus s to be exact. The experience wasn't lag free but it did what I needed to and I loved the customization that android brought. Since then, been using android, but only nexus devices as I love pure android look

you realize that the iPhone's battery is about 1400 mAh right? the secret here is an efficient yet limited software.
that's not to say that the 2100 mAh is not big enough for an Android device. it should do just as good if not better than the S3, which has a similar sized battery. something certainly is not working as intended. some say a buggy radio, others speak of the 4.2 and hardware not optimized. whatever it is, i am hopeful that a software update will take care of it.
i generally agree with the OP, i don't see myself using skinned Android anymore. stock android>IOS>skinned android.
Vanilla android >jail broken iOS>90" TV's

open system tuner, press the voltage button, the first voltage (384) should be 900mv. press the -12.5mv a few times until that first one says 800mv, now they're all lowered by 100 you can go further if you want, some chips can handle -150 no problem. but in my experience 100 is pretty safe and enough to notice a difference in battery

Android is already better than iOS in terms of users anyway, I would like to just pick at the part of Jobs making the touchscreen...he didnt it was infact HTC that made the first capacitive touchscreen device, Apple just put together all the same hardware 5 years later and marketed the crap out of it which is great its typical apple and now we have an amazing market where Android exists and these high end smartphones are popular and back in the market .
That's apple all over though really isnt it
I mean archos brought out an Mp3 player with video about 3 years before apple did it on the ipod, apple then claimed they invented that, along with the wheel, dinosaurs, and the earth
If you guys are worried about the battery I highly recommend an external battery pack. I know they look sorta gimmicky like that stocking stuffer present you get and never use but there are some sleek looking ones that match the beauty of the nexus 4 and are easy to use. Its sorta like carrying another phone around in terms of weight/size.

You are using a personal computer. If you sit down and listen to music and have the screen on how long do you expect it to last?
I also listen to podcasts bit I know of I do this I will not get an entire day.
When I use the phone normally I get great battery life. Just go into your apps in the panel and look under running. Use titanium backup to freezing what you don't need.
Good luck..

There is an app called Display Tester which shows if your display is calibrated well. It shows you colors with many different shades of those colors. Basically, when the colors switch nicely and smoothly and each shade has its own visible box it means your screen is well calibrated. There's also gamma stuff which is important.

Me too, the problem arises when we have to develop and test (i.e. apps or web) on a 'miscalibrated' display. Apart from that it's all good.

I will use a custom 4.3 kernel with gamma control with 4.2.2 values to compare with.
So can you guys tell me what methods of altering color settings there are besides the old [0-255]Red,Green,Blue. And amp0 amp1. This is all I have using trickstermod and Matr1x 4.3 kernel. Are there currently any other WORKING methods to alter colors? I heard something about faux and gamma.:cyclops:
well theres some calibration kernel released.theres also faux clock and franco app which lets you calibrate the display.but some people said that calibrating will do damage to screen and posibbly burn the screen.

This.
Yep just up the colour intensity a little but not so far that skin tones look like radiation burns (folks do get carried away) and you are good to go.
Thats the app i used to find my optimal settings. Modified ceejays (i think its in the spreadsheet/francos app - i increased contrast to "2" from "0" to get gamma 2.2) settings to get 2.2 gamma on RBG and very minimal (hardly visible) banding. Infact, the banding is not worse that stock settings. Colors look absolutly fantastic compared to dull/washed out 1.6 (?) gamma stock settings.
i'm f**king colorblind, so it doesn't matter to me what you "regular" people see...my colors are awesome
Hey guys, just got my nexus 6 yesterday and I noticed I have the pink tint issue only when I'm using adaptive brightness, its not a big deal for me but once kernels get gamma control support would we be able to fix this issue? just curious if its fully a hardware problem or software.
Also I don't if this has been answered already but why does the brightness go so much lower when adaptive brightness is on?
Any insight would be great, thanks!
I'm wondering the same thing! And what's the difference on battery comparing adaptive brightness on vs off aswell
If I turn my brightness way down it turns pinkish.

You can squeeze another hour of SOT with a custom ROM and kernel. I usually get 4 to 4.5. Everyone's phone is unique but benzo kernel gives me very good battery life regardless of the ROM it is used with. It is based off hells core kernel which many people agree is among the best.

Good luck!
A custom ROM with settings with by Kernel Adiutor (or Synapse,...) *may* help. There are so many factors, including use (which you've touched on), areas of travel/use (and therefore reception), baseband version,...
Regardless, your willingness and patience to experiment with different kernels (recommend hellscore/benzoCore or blu_spark as starting points) and ROMs are very helpful!
Has anyone tried CM12.1 it seems like a very clean interface?

Try the M3 stock. I don't think you'll be disappointed. The battery is what it is, you can get some improvements however I think most of them exist in how the device deep sleeps. JDX 3.01 (rom) is in the thread. Good luck.

All custom kernels.can be tweaked for battery life. The choice.of kernel is pretty much irrelevant, unless you can't be bothered to learn the tweaks
Also, ROMs.have very little influence on battery life unless it's bloated and poorly coded. Although in.not saying CM is either of those things, typically cm ROMs have been poorer on battery life than their aosp cousins.

My N6 - stock 5.1.1 - Franco Kernel.
For battery life I am using apps with a black background when possible.
No G-mail but K-9 Mail.
No wallpaper 'No wallpaper app'.
WiFi interval changed to 200 with build.prop editor.
Flashed Black Google Now launcher
(Needs Google.app updates uninstalled).
Disabled not used g-apps.
Disabled not used services.
Actually today I am bit surprised of how well the battery behaved. I got 4 hrs SOT, 3 hrs of talk time, listing to music.
Here is what I did and I believe that pumped up my battery performance.
1. Switched network to 3G.
2. No WiFi.
3. Wiped cache from boot recovery.
I will keep an eye on it but if that's the case then I will just stay stock until M is out.

Yes agree, I noticed that too (switching to 2G).
Probably the 4G network is to weak for indoor use, and maybe bad signal causes more battery.
Hope you don' t mind that I add another point.
