It is stock android+ - the plus being touchless controls, motorola assist and active display. It has no lag because it doesn't have an overbloated OEM skin like touchwiz on it. And the Motorola radios hands down beat the Samsung radios. I had the GNote3 and tested it side-by-side with the Moto X and in weaker signal areas the Moto X outperformed the GNote3 in speedtests as well as having fewer dropped calls. In strong signal areas, the GNote3 and Moto X perform the same.
Ergonomically, the phone just feels great in my hand.
Get the GSM unlocked Developer Edition if you can because the latest version of Android is not rootable on the ATT Moto X.

Well the bootloader is locked down hard on the ATT Moto X and no root available on 4.4.2 and the dev who rooted the Moto X on 4.4 says he is not going to work on finding a way to do it for 4.4.2 so probably never will be. Don't know if that is important to you or not but since you are here on XDA I would assume that it is.
yes very much so. my ability to develop my phone is very important

The att gs4 has a locked down boot loader also if you are able to get the baseband version of MDL for the gs4 get it! That means there's an exploit but I doubt you'll be lucky enough to get one. You'll probably get one with mf3 or mk2. You can still flash a few custom Roms via safestrap but when I had my gs4 I was always trying to get something close to stock android but the only Roms you could flash is touchwiz roms. The gs4 is a good phone but the gs5 is around the corner and the gs4 will be but a forgotten memory. Plus the features on the gs4 is gimmicky the features on the moto x is very useful. Get the moto x you won't regret it. And if you don't like it within 6 months get the gs5 with the att next program. No root method for att gs4 4.4.2 either on MLD

well, you won't be able to do it with an ATT Moto X running 4.4.2 unless someone finds a way to root and it doesn't look like jcase is interested in that.
I highly recommend the Moto X for it user functionality, but then again you're asking this on the Moto X forum. THe GS4 has too much gimmicky bloatware for my tastes, and I love the Moto X's features.

You won't be able to root on the gs4 once the 4.4.2 MLD update comes.

You have to shell out some cash and get the unlocked Moto X or Nexus 5. Most of the phones on AT&T are bootloader locked, and of course, since they are AT&T branded they won't get the same level of dev supports as unlocked version.
Nexus 4 is still a pretty good phone. I used it on T-Mobile and flashed the LTE radio. You can try that and see if you can pick up LTE on AT&T, but they only provide band 4 LTE support in very few places, so it's not very likely.
In all honestly, if you intend to buy phone for lots of custom roms, the S4 is a much better alternative provided you can unlock the bootloader. The Moto X I think is a better phone, but doesn't have much custom roms and kernel. The thing is the Moto X work so well I feel no need to root it, it already perform very well and have great battery life out of the box.
Does it work?
Has anyone tried the Sunrise app (found @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2792487) on their new Moto X 2014 (VZW or ATT) to attempt to unlock their bootloader?
Just curious, as your experience will influence my decision about which Moto X to buy for VZW network (i.e., Moto X VZW 2013, Moto X VZW 2013 Dev Edition, or Moto X VZW 2014).
Thanks in advance.
It won't work. I asked @jcase in that thread.
*Sunshine by the way.
Hello guys, I've been looking to get a Nexus 6 although I was looking at the 2nd gen Moto x with all of its features and now that's what I'm interested in.
I like to tweak my devices and I remember seeing Motorola putting all the Moto X features and specific apps on the Play Store(obviously only installable from a Moto X device).
I was thinking in theory there must be a way to get the special features from the stock Moto X rom into CyanogenMod running on the Moto X. If I am able to do this, I will definitely be getting the Moto X, if not, I will be getting the Nexus 6.
If one does get to unlock the bootloader of the 2104 Moto X Verizon, Can they flash ROMS from the pure edition since both phones are basically the same except the Verizon version has CDMA.
At this point, the unlock is such a big "if", that you may as well forget about the second part.
We will never get a BL unlock. Only thing we can hope for is Root.
Also, that "except" is actually a pretty big difference at the system level
Or did this never come to the XT1096?
Any way to get simultaneous voice/data on this device?
