I lost all sound (except via bluetooth) about 3 ROMs ago. VS98039A seems to work great for me, except it didn't bring back my sound. I thought it would be a good idea to go back to stock with a KDZ or TOT, but those methods seem to be Windows-only. How can I get back to square one on my VS980 from Linux?

I was able to install the Windows 10 Technical Preview on a spare hard drive. The LG Flash Tool crashed, but it still managed to push 27A onto my phone. Now I have a fresh install on my phone, but still no sound. I guess I have to bite the bullet and buy a new phone.

Hi everyone.
I have an Optimus 2x, and when i updated it to 2.3.4 i could not use superoneclick to root my phone instead i found an answer on how to root it.
I needed to install cwm 5 and after that busybox and so on, and it worked, it was rooted.
Now i have a other problem, i have an update on my phone and when i click on installing it starts to reebot then it comes to cwm screen, there i'm stuck.
I have tryed everything there trying to update it but nothing works.
So now i am wondering if any of you can help me?
Got any idea what i can do to update or what i am doing wrong?
//Szander.
Ok, so now i did a recover so i get back my phone as it was before i installed cwm and tryed to update, it did work fine.
Until the update was done, then it stopped, and nothing i did worked the little android just stand there and looked at me.
So what now, i removed the battery and hoped for the best, now the phone would not bot at all.
After a few tears and a few swear words, i thougt about something, maybe i could use nvflash to get it all back as it was ???
I tryed closed my eyes and after a few minutes i could restart my phone and it loaded as useall, but the update was gone, ofcourse.
So now back to square one again.
Sigh (
Hi Szander,
So just to be completely clear, you're back at a perfectly stock 2.3.4 unrooted ROM and you want to root it, right?
Why not trying to follow cyanogen wiki to root it?

No.
I have cwm, and its still rooted.
What i want is to get rid of cwm so i can update to the latest update wich is v20q.
I have tryed this with recover but its only working on froyo, i belive i read it somewhere.
And when i recovered my phone then the problem really started, but thats fine now.
And as an plus is that now when i run LGMobileupdate tool its saying that i have v20q but in the phone it says that i still have v20I.
Weird.
I have read alittle more and (if i got it right) found out that i might just need to use smartflash on the phone via my computer to get rid of cwm and get a perfectly stocked phone again.
So can you help me please, hoping that you understand my problem.
Yup, as far as I know you are correct. To get your phone back to stock you need to flash a stock ROM using either smartflash or nvflash. I haven't done it so I can't guide you through it personally, but search this forum you should find the relevant threads easily enough.
If you have trouble finding it let me know I'll help you searching.
EDIT: By the way, thanks for Meshuggah, one of the best bands ever I should visit Sweden sometime
Well i got my wifes permission to use her upgrade, so i got the SGS3. It's an awesome phone but that's beside the point.
I'm trying to flash the revo back to stock because she is going to use it until my upgrade in February. The problem is that Verizon took the sim out because they're not transferable, or so they say. So i went to wipe data and cache, then booted the phone and all it would let me do is make an emergency call. So currently i'm restoring an old backup in hopes that it works so i can get it connected to lgnpst and flash zv7. If anyone's got advice it's appreciated.
something similar happened to me.
my gf's Revo got stuck in a boot loop. so in the meantime of trying to fix it, i activated an old Droid 1 in place of the phone. once i got the Revo running again, i had it upgraded to V8 from using LGNPST, but Verizon couldn't activate it no matter what they tried. i ended having to revert the phone back to V4, had them activate it, then upgrade it. unless i had super bad luck with this case. hope you don't have as much of a hassle as i did.
Well it worked, ahaha. It's flashing zv7 now. I thought it was kind of funny though.
And it got an error code and stopped... That sucks.
Got back into recovery and am restoring again. lol
See, told you it would be interesting.

Why v7? Why not v8 so you can update to 9?
I guess i'm assuming it will do OTA's from v7 to v8 and v9?? It's not staying rooted for her, she has no need for it.
It's been trying to do an OTA for weeks and weeks, and hasn't been able to.
Regardless i'm getting multiple errors now, so i don't know what's going on. I restored and it won't communicate with the phone now.
I'm wondering if it has to have a sim to go through the full flash. Just had another failure but i can get back to recovery to restore.
Does anyone know if that's true???
It cannot update from v7 to v9. You have to flash it to v8 then update it to v9. They will not push you v8 then v9. You need to get the TOT for 8 or 9 and flash directly.
Well that's good to know, thanks. Wife got the phone activated and i data wiped it and it works fine for now. She wants it back to stock though so i'll flash v8.
Hey guys,
I have a Samsung Epic 4G on Cricket that I flashed and trying to make the jump back to the Droid -- since I loved my OG Droid.
Having messed and mucked around with the Epic and Samsung, they're NOTORIOUSLY hard to brick -- I've brought quite a few back from the dead.
So a few quick questions (I asked a few about half a year ago):
1. What is the status of GSM on the Droid 4? If I unlock the radio and then put something like CM10 on it, do I need to configure anything inside that ROM to utilize it, i.e. like APN's, etc? Or does it "just work" (TM)? Thinking of going StraightTalk and already have a MicroSIM card.
2. How is the phone in terms of developer-friendly... re: hard to brick? I know with my Epic, if it died, I could just pull the battery, discharge, and then plug in a data cable to instantly push it into recovery mode (via button press-configuration) and I can just push a new image onto it. Is this similarly easy?
3. How difficult is it to get ready for custom ROMs, etc? Looks like if I'm on ICS, I can just use the toolkit to root, etc, right?
If anyone has any background from any of the Samsung phones and their experiences, that'd be awesome... But hopefully I will be joining you guys' ranks in the next few days (or tonight)...
well, importantly, if you flash ics and try to go back to gingerbread the wrong way, you have a paperweight--with the fastest keyboard on any paperweight ever--that won't do you any good
AFAIK, the only way to permanently brick these phones is if you wreck the bootloader, which is pretty tough to do unless you are trying...
Even trying to go back to gingerbread will only result in a softbrick, which can be recovered relatively easily by fastbooting ICS
I also have a factory cable, perhaps in the misguided belief that it will do something more, but I've never had the occasion to use it.

If you are in the USA then forget about GSM for now. If you are in any other country it will work. A list of carriers that have actually been tested is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28647511&postcount=3

There's ways to brick it, but these days if you are just planning on messing with roms, not baseband or bootloaders, then just install Safestrap recovery which lets your dual/multi boot between the stock ROM and other ROMs of your choice, leave the stock ROM alone, and you'll be fine.
3. How difficult is it to get ready for custom ROMs, etc? Looks like if I'm on ICS, I can just use the toolkit to root, etc, right?

Yes, root with that script, install Safestrap.apk, run it as root, you now have a working recovery.
I'm pretty new to this, and I didn't fully understand the whole rom, flash, kernel stuff but I did it anyway, seeing as I jailbroke my ipod when I knew next to nothing about that kinda stuff...
Well, I rebooted into recovery using rom manager, and it didn't reboot. It shut off, but didn't turn back on.. I tried to turn it back on myself and only the lg logo would appear..
So I googled what was happening to my phone. It's either in the 'boot loop' or bricked... i don't know the difference, or if there's even one but what the hell do I do to fix it? ..
I tried holding down the power, 3D and volume down button but the recovery menu doesn't come up... and I really don't wanna download any more programs to fix it :/
Im sorry but you must now have to download some programs to fix. You follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1491870
And Flash your firmware using the kdz files. If you have anymore problems feel free to ask.
Sent from my LG-P925 using xda app-developers app
This worked for me
Sorry about the phone. This worked easier for me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1448803
BUT I already had .bin and .fls files on my computer, not .kdz. I suppose either way is about the same. It does feel like you are groping in the dark for a while, then it all comes together. And when you are done learning all about it you can fix all your friends' Androids for a bunch of Starbucks coffee or whatever.
:cyclops:
Also, be careful with custom recovery (CWM/TWRP); just be sure it works with your particular phone first. That's what 'bricked' mine; I had custom recovery not really compatible with the setup I have going on my Thrill and got bootloop. I had to reflash the ROM image as in above link or the one in the other poster to get out of it.
whoops
sorry guys ive been busy with work lately ill have to give that first option a go seeing as i basically have nothing left of the old system
ill update after i try it.
That last post of mine is old. This is my LG Flash Tool guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39269819
Drivers are tricky to set up the first time you try it, but Flash Tool is more reliable in my opinion.
BTW P920 and P925 are the same device. Thrill is just the US AT&T branded version (who I have never used; I unlocked mine with a Straight Talk SIM). I have a Thrill and some small numbering inside the battery cover says "P920."
update

i need to be able to get an os on it ..i dont can if it stock or rooted gb or ics i just need it done.and the above link's files no longer work... i need a no bs way to get this fixed ..any takers?
I was working on getting 4.4 AOSP kitkat on my Atrix HD, and it was going great. While backing up with CWM, it failed on the data, but I figured I could just restore my files from a back up. When I went to put the rom on it, I got some no_contexts error and it said somethign about metadata. I tried to restore the backup and got a md5 fail. I used the advanced restore to let it skip the data part, but all parts gave a md5 fail. Now for somereason, I'm unable to connect through ADB, though fastboot still works, so I can't try pushing a stock rom. I tried adb sideload, but that didn't even remotely work. I also can't charge my phone, and it has a low battery. Does it charge in fastboot or recovery mode? Please help.
Phew
Ok, so I was looking around for a way to get back to stock without adb, which, as I said earlier, I couldn't get working halfway through. I was looking around for a way to do it with fastboot, and found rsd lite. I downloaded the files I needed, but it always failed 1/23. I then thought to just do it manually, and it worked perfectly
On a side note though, is there a way to use fastboot to flash nonstock roms? Would I just follow the same commands I did for the stock version? Is there any specific version I should download to use fastboot with it? I am still wanting an as-close-as-possible stock version of 4.4 for atrix hd. Also, did I do anything wrong the first time, or was the download corrupt?

I'm glad to hear you got things back into working order! With regards to flashing any custom ROM, the safest way is to use a custom recovery. Currently, as far as I can tell, the only official recovery for the Atrix HD is CWM but that's fine. You do want to be sure that you have the latest, most up to date version of CWM installed. As of right now, I believe that is 6.0.4.4 (http://clockworkmod.com/rommanager, mine already might be out of date again) and that may be where your problems came from when you were wiping and getting errors.
With regards to a close to stock 4.4 for the Atrix HD, there is an official build of CM available here: http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=mb886 although the latest build is from February, I can assure you that from running it on my Atrix HD it is definitely much smoother than what Motorola has offered (to date) for this device. There have been promises of official 4.4 support but I haven't seen anything come from that as of today (see here for more info: http://goo.gl/oK34W0)
CORRECTION: The official support for Atrix HD is here: http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=moto_msm8960
It is a merged thread for all of the devices mentioned here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Moto_msm8960_Info
I can't vouch for it personally but others have said that it has fixed a lot of bugs since the single device support that ended in February...
