Verizon IMEI - Nexus 6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is anyone trying to get their Nexus 6 that was purchased somewhere else into the Verizon database? As I understand it you cannot install HD voice calling unless it is recognized in their database. Does anyone know anything about this and has anyone tried to get Verizon to add it in their Nexus 6?

I suppose it would be nice to have a real verizon device in the database but it's not super important to me.

According to Verizon Tier 2 tech support and a ticket they put in on my behalf, non-Verizon nexus 6 devices won't be allowed in their database because of a claimed lack of security of the devices that don't have their firmware/software. The ticket was intended to add my device to their database and was denied. I have my phone working again because of a particularly helpful member of their tier 2 support team last night, but it isn't properly recognized and the connection is somewhat flaky. I was told I'd have to return my motorola device (which isn't possible due to return policy) and buy one from Verizon for it to work. <--Not happening unless they give me the Verizon phone for free and leave me month to month. Motorola device protection is much better anyway.
Be careful calling them with the device should you choose to. Mine was flagged immediately after/ during a call to resolve a billing dispute.
I suppose it's possible this will all be fixed when the store launch of the Nexus 6 is complete.
I'm looking for possible real solutions myself...

That's the thing with Verizon and nexus devices. They have complete control over what is allowed on their network. Main reason cdma nexus are few and far between. Not a whole lot you can do really. It is their call.

I was using a Sprint Nexus until VZ released theirs. I was able to add the HD calling on my account but at the time it did no good because it was rocking 5.0. As far as it looked on paper my non VZ device would've worked had it had the option to allow it on the phone which 5.1 does. YMMV..

A solution to what? Putting a non Verizon device on the Verizon database? If so. Why?

That worked the first time just fine. Now tech support has to do something on their end to make it work that way. luckily the last person I spoke with from tech support was willing to do that for me.

I received my N6 02/19 from Motorola and activated it with the cut microsim from my GS3. The phone worked fine until 03/16 when I called *611 with a billing problem. Immediately following that phone call my phone was no longer activated. It brought up the "Please log into network" message. Since the phone was available from Verizon at that point I thought (silly me) that they would be able to just activate it. It's a Nexus, why should it matter where it came from? They tried activating it over the phone and it wouldn't work. I suspect on the call with customer service they picked up the problem and it kicked the phone. I spoke with Motorola, Google, and Verzion multiple times trying to correct the issue. Verizon tech support was aware all along. One party submitted a support ticket to add my IMEI to their database and that request was denied because of some crap about "security" with the non verizon version. I got that information in a voicemail, so I called back to demand a solution since the phone worked. That tier 2 support person was more saavy that the others I had spoken with and forced the activation. I tried all the troubleshooting steps anyone had to offer and none of them worked. The phone doesn't show up on our account even if you look online. I really just want the phone to work and not have to fuss with changing carriers, because I will if I have to. That threat didn't seem to phase them. The only measure I haven't tried is a fresh sim.

Your going to need a new sim. What is going to happen is if u have a unreconignzed device on your verizon account and u make changes like data/calling it wont reconignze the device. Take ur g3 in get a new sim, cut that down and then put it in the nexus and it will work. never make changes to verizon account with unreconignzed device. U need to have a verizon brand phone to make changes and then swap the sim back over.

LG G4 H811 Unlock

It's become more than apparent that unlocking the LG G4 H811 variant is next to impossible, if you're not a T-Mobile customer. I'm on AT&T and I bought the phone from a T-Mobile employee, who purchased the phone to resell on Craigslist, using an LG promotion, exclusive to those employees. I add this detail to stress that the phone is not stolen, nor is it blacklisted. I've tried everything in my skill set to unlock it, to no avail. I've even taken it to a couple third party shops in Cleveland , who were stupefied at the new Unlock App T-Mobile forces on us to prevent unlocking. I want to use it as if I bought it from AT&T, calling, 4G data and all. Who can suggest the best possible method? I understand that a user on these forums can unlock it for $45, but this is a bit too steep for something I already spent a couple hundred dollars on. Please help!

I'm in the same boat you are in. Mine isn't blacklisted or anything T-Mobile said that the phone that I have is paid off but that it wasn't on their network for more than 18 days. I'm not understanding why if the phone is purchased outright why do you have to be on T-Mobile for a certain time? Or if their even telling me the truth.

I called their customer support and they told me to call LG and get the code, since T-Mobile gets it from them anyways. I called LG and they said to call T-Mobile... I called T-Mobile back and they told me to call the person who originally purchased the phone. I texted him, a guy about my age (I'm 21). Still waiting to hear back, but my God, the last thing I want to do when I sell something, is have the buyer come back and ask me for help. I feel like I'm bugging him. The thing I want is so simple, yet so godd**n difficult to achieve.
I am T-Mobile customer for a long time. If you have time to wait and want to get it unlocked for free you can do the following:
1) Ask some one you know with T-Mobile sim card and account and put his/her sim in your phone.
2) Make couple of calls so T-Mobile's system will register the device. You can then give the sim card back.
3) Remember that date and you may need to wait from 40 to 60 days.
4) After that period get same sim card from that person, put it in the phone and launch that Unlock App, pick "Permanent Unlock" and if you are eligible then great if not, that person will have to call T-Mobile and ask for the unlock code.
So the above is normal procedure to get a phone unlocked. This is what I do, but for me it is normal since I am a customer and able to use the phone while waiting that period.

I don't, but you can search online and I am sure you will fine it.
World GSM Codes told me that they could do it but they could not. It was suppose to happen in a couple of days. When I inquired several days later as to why I haven't been unlocked they replied that they needed a couple of more days. Since then I have sent them a few emails asking why it hasn't happened and one requesting a refund, all of which have gone unanswered. I now have a paypal claim filed against them to get my money back.

The temp unlock is good for 30 days. Afterward you will need to insert a valid T-Mobile SIM to reunlock it again. If you keep the phone on an active T-Mobile post paid line for 40 days, you can request permanent unlock and it will be unlocked for life.

I haven't used it on T-mobile, been using it on AT&T. Don't know if it was paid off or not either. Bought it off a guy on Craigslist for about $220 after I buy the accessories needed.
Tried the device unlock app, chose the permanent unlock option and it's unlocked ever since. Never had this happened on a smartphone before, I was surprised myself.

How to tell N6 original carrier?

I purchased one brand new on eBay and was wondering whether it a playstore, T-Mobile, Verizon, or Sprint n6.
I don't think it matters with the Nexus 6. I do believe the units sold through the carriers were unlocked.
One way to tell if it was a carrier phone is to try and use an MSL unlock code. By default it should be all "0", however; if you bought it from a carrier like I did it will be an actual code.
I think carrier matters, although the phone is unlocked and you'll be able to use it on supported networks however you may potentially face issues in OTAs. Just my opinion because I am currently having some problems updating my unrooted & non modified N6, using it another region but not getting any updates.

Carrier doesn't matter on Nexus devices except for the SPC/MSL code which is 000000 on unlocked devices.
I am also in Pakistan, there are tons of 'smuggled' XT1103's here, some with Verizon logos and some without. In fact, there are even some with T-Mobile SIM cards still inserted. Anyhow, once you flash a factory image with the new stock recovery, you should get OTA updates as any other Nexus 6.
During the Android 5.1 era, the Nexus 6 had specified builds for those on Project Fi or T-Mobile, in your thread I noticed you were running on LYZ28N which is the build used for T-Mobile ONLY as specified on the Factory Images page. You won't get an OTA unless you're in the USA with a T-Mobile SIM Card.
Flash the latest unified builds of Android 6.0.1, the latest being MMB29X for the Nexus 6, it includes the latest security patch (2nd Apr 2016).
Here's the link for it, it's approx 1GB.

What ota the phone gets is determined by the installed sim card, AT&T blocked Marshmallow for a while, T-mo got some different Wi-fi calling builds, and verizon at one point had specific Vo-LTE builds.
Far as I know at this point with the monthly builds everything's consolidated.

Not necessarily.
However to confirm, check the first 2-3 digits of your IMEI.
If it's 99, then probably Sprint or Verizon, though the latter would have a logo on the back.
If it's 35 or 01, then it's either AT&T, T-Mobile or a Play Store model.
I have an app called VZWAPN on my phone and there's no way it can even be a Verizon device since it's a UK XT1100 Model.

My only concern is getting a subsidized device with an unpaid balance that could potentially be blacklisted if original owner decides to leave sprint, tmob, att or vrz withoit paying balance. Thanks for the replies.
If you hadn't already purchased the phone off ebay, I would have told you to go to Swappa instead, as they don't permit the kind of shenanigans you find with ebay and Craigslist purchases, namely selling the phone while payments are still owed, not making any further payments, and leaving you with a phone that is blocked on the carrier.
Once you get the phone, go to Swappa and run its IMEI through their IMEI check tool. That should tell you if the IMEI is clean or not.

Thanks for the suggestion. I ran a swappa check and it is clean. But this status may change, that is why the only safe option is the google playstore way. Have a great day!
I disagree with that sentiment. Swappa explicitly prohibits the scenario I describe. Should it happen Swappa will refund the money. Amazon is a perfectly viable option so long as you buy from Amazon and not a third party. Motorola themselves offered the device for sale on the Motorola website.
Point here is that while Google may be the safest route, there are other routes just as safe, if you do your homework.
AT&T and Verizon both have their logos on the back of the phone.

yes, but the google after service is much better than anywhere else. seriously, its not even close. not like you can buy a n6 through google anymore though
Sure, but the OP's statement was that Google was the only safe method of getting the device, and that simply isn't true. In the case of the N6 I could have bought the device direct from Motorola, or direct from a carrier. I personally chose Amazon, because they had quantities of the device in their warehouse from Motorola when Motorola themselves didn't.

to buy one, there's many "safe" places.
I just purchased a N6 and tried to install a Project Fi SIM into the device. Every time, I load in the ROM of the day, it does not see the SIM. Looking at the IMEI, I can deduce that this is a former AT&T phone. Since this is an issue of SIM locked, can the SIM be unlocked even though the firmware has been changed and the original AT&T SIM is long gone?

So in theory, I can go to my local AT&T store and since the phone is clean, they just give me a code? I am assuming that I just need to plug in the digits via the dialpad to unlock, correct?

I bought my device from Samsung direct a TMO version. Attempted to use the unlock app on the phone but received the following message.

easy, just unlocked mine the other day. I messaged t mobile through twitter, gave them the imei, my email and phone number. make sure you tell them you purchased a t mobile variant through Samsung to save yourself some time. you also have to your t mobile sim card in the device. after they verify all your info, he will put in the unlock request and will tell you after 72 hours, go back into the unlock, click permanently unlock and you'll be good. it took a little over 24 hours and it let me unlock

I believe you have to have the phone on TMO's network for at least 40 days whether you've paid for the phone outright or not.

Normally you have to have the device paid in full, then be on the network for 3days.
If that does not work once youve done that. Give the 611 number a call and they will email you a code in about 2 days

Don't waste your time calling them. I called more than 4 times. First time they send me to Samsung, that of course didn't work, called couple times more got nowhere, last time I called they "confirmed with tech support, the phone is unlocked before shipped from factory for sure", it is not. Anyhow, I finally broke down and reactivated my old tweeter account and tweeted from my phone's tmobile application and that finally seemed to work, should have it unlocked in 3 days and as soon as that's done, will unlock my wife's phone as well. But there is a price to pay: Already got few spam e-mails from tweeter and since I activated tmobile program on my phone, I can't shut that program down and leaves some permanent message in notification area that can't be erased and uses my battery. I'm going to have to clean all this up after the phone is unlocked. It seems tweeter is the only way to do it, but process itself was painless.

Are you talking about the tmobile app? Because the unlock app doesn't leave a notification. Go into the tmo app settings and simply turn off the constant notifications for data.
Also any emails you get from Twitter have nothing to do with the whole process, you could do the same thing over the phone but twitter is essentially a bypass for the first tier of support.

I have a feeling he is going to have to jump through hoops. He bought someones BOGO and it isn't paid off. He is going to have to wait until that guy pays it off and he's going to have to become a prepaid customer before T-Mobile will unlock the device. An unlock service won't be able to get you an unlock without the device being paid off. I suggest he return it after checking T-Mobile IMEI checker to see if there is a balance and there is one.

Note 9 unlocked version or Sprint version?

Was wondering is there any benefits or cons of buying Sprint n9 or unlocked n9 both from Samsung USA directly?
It's my understanding that Sprint automatically unlocks devices after 50 days of service. If I buy an unlocked n9 from Samsung directly then I'd have to buy a sim card too for upgrade purposes from a note 8.
Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
If you fully purchase the phone from Sprint, it's supposed to be 50 days, and it's not automatic. You have to call and wait for it to be cleared. If you buy it from Samsung unlocked, it comes unlocked immediately. That seems the better way to go to me, if your going to put up all the money up front any way.

If I buy the Sprint branded from Samsung directly surely it will be locked ?
I bought my t mobile N8 from Samsung directly last year and it was locked and had to be unlocked via t mobile for me to able to use it on Sprint currently.
Also on a side note, t mobile had to contact Samsung before they could unlock my t mobile device , because the IMEI wasn't on t mobiles database. Even though it was a t mobile note 8.

Sprint doesn't unlock device after 50 days of use. They will only unlock after the device is paid off. I had my S7E for over a year and a half and its still locked up. Not only that, Sprint is one of the worst in terms of customer service so I will be leaving them shortly. I ordered a blue unlocked Note 9 from Samsung which I'll be using instead of the S7E. The S7E I will pay off the remaining balance and trade it in to Samsung for the credit.

With sprint, you will not be getting volte anyway. I'm certainly not getting internet connection when I'm on a call with my S7E. It's some bs if you ask me. When I initially found out about this switching over from T-Mobile (I was with Tmo for 10+years) I was shocked. I do not use sprint vvm as I have google voice but I heard you can download that separately.

Is this something you're getting because you rooted? My Sprint S7E has no internet while on call. Things like google maps will stop working in online mode, I can't check the internet nor check gmail while on a call. I called sprint only to find out they do not offer simultaneous voice and internet. So i'm not sure how you're getting it. I will check again after writing this message to see if sprint somehow turned that function on.
EDIT: Nope, still no internet while on call. Either your Note 8 has something my S7E doesn't have or you're on wifi and you just weren't aware? Like I said Sprint told me they do not have this feature so i'm not sure how you're getting it. Thought I would provide some correct information

I think he's talking about the calling plus feature which currently let's you use voice and data if also connected to wifi and mobile data.
I doubt calling plus will work in the unlocked version which I'm getting.
I pulled the trigger and ordered an unlocked version. Stupid me, paying $600 ( after trade in) for stereo speakers and 20% bigger battery. Now I'll have to order a new sim card and do imei change via my Sprint dashboard when I receive the n9.

Yeah, as I mentioned, if you're on wifi it'll definitely let you use the internet while on a call. By the way, I'm in the same shoe I ordered a Note 9 unlocked from Samsung to use on sprint for the next few months before I switch. Why the next few months? because while I'll pay off the S7E, the BOGO S7E won't be paid out fully until 2 full years.
We're in the same boat.
I'm assuming I need a new sim card as I've learned that I cannot merely swap the note 8 Sprint card into the unlocked note 9 when it arrives. Any tips?

Anyone buy an Unlocked Pixel 4 Directly from Google and use AT&T?

I am looking specifically for people that have purchased an unlocked Pixel 4 directly from Google and that use AT&T.
I've been through 2 phones now and it's telling me to contact XFinity and my AT&T sim isn't recognized. Even the e-Sim option only gives XFinity as an option.
So, if you purchased a new Pixel 4 (XL or not) from Google that was unlocked, put your sim from your old phone into it and had zero problems I'd like to hear from you. Google seems to be befuddled as to what could be the problem. I do have a case open with them, though.
I have a feeling they are shipping the wrong phones... but twice in a row? Maybe xfinity is trying to get new customers lol... my issue is AT&T is the only service that works well in my area.
Others are having the same issue with unlocked phones on Verizon as well.

I bought an unlocked Pixel 4XL but I bought it from bestbuy not directly from Google. It is not the AT&T branded phone, it's the actual unlocked Google version. While I was still in bestbuy I put my son from my Pixel 3 in it to verify that I would have any issues and everything worked out perfectly. Again I didn't get it straight from the Google store.
However when I bought my unlocked Pixel 3, I did order it directly from Google website and same thing. I took my AT&T sim out of my Pixel 2 and put it in the Pixel 3 and everything worked perfect.
Not sure if it matters, but since I travel a lot for work, I have the unlimited prepaid AT&T service (no contact).
Yes, I've used pixels since the original nexus without issue. This one has me baffled.. Google too.
Have done this for ages. No issues. Went from 3XL to 4XL without issue as well, all works fine, including WiFi calling and HD Voice.
I would suggest getting a new SIM from AT&T.
The sim works in my pixel 1, 2, 3 and even my nexus 5x. I doubt it's the sim. The clue is that it's asking for xfinity, even for the e-sim option xfinity is the only one that it shows. All the e sim setup I've seen shows different carriers available.
My guess, they have a batch of pixel 4s tied to xfinity in the "unlocked" stack in the warehouse.
Why would setting up an eSim only show this:

vs what is shown here:

Unless it was locked to Xfinity somehow?
Here's the error when inserting my sim:
I got an unlocked pixel 4 xl directly from the google store, but i was using at&t prepaid (which is cricket wireless).... Only recently switched to verizon prepaid a few weeks ago. Both sims work just fine in my phone.
Not sure if this helps to identify the variant... but when I got the phone in Oct, the build ended in 007. You can also try typing in your IMEI # in the AT&T website to see if it's compatible. It should be compatible but it might give you some clues?

Thanks, Neo. I'm more convinced they got a bad batch of phones in the wrong area of the warehouse... I only am recently seeing these types of issues popping up now.. really only in the last week. I expect to see more. Google has already told me that I could return the phone but I already gave the free Home Net to my parents for Christmas and they're loving it. So I told Google I'd work with them and do anything to get it resolved short of that.
So far they've had me send some debug logs to them. I hope things get figured out.
I had a Pixel 3 with a AT&T sim until I bought Pixel 4xl last Black Friday from Google and used my AT&T with no problem. same with other, i have wifi calling and HD voice and no issues. Anyone tried a esim from AT&T on Pixel 4xl?

Yes, I bought two unlocked P4 XL's from the Google store. My family has been on AT&T for many years. We just pulled the SIM's from the old P3 XL's and voila. Like others have said everything works. In your case, one phone? ok... but now two phones? I'd be up to AT&T getting a new SIM provisioned and not leave until it's fixed. It's free to you and will rule out the hardware. Is your plan post-pay or pre-pay? What are the first two digits of your IMEI's? What is your SKU?
First 2 digits are 35. It's post paid normal plan. We've been on AT&T for many years as well, dating back to before the original nexus phone (razr, krazr, even earlier than that!)
I don't believe it's AT&T's problem, but Google's. The phone seems to be only looking for XFinity sim or e-sim as shown in the pictures I posted.
I have AT&T prepaid and upgraded from a Pixel 3 with everything working to the Pixel 4 losing HD Voice, no Wi-Fi calling, and data dropping to 3G while on calls.
AT&T comes up with the same argument. Phone is not AT&T branded so I should be happy with the service I do have because that's what I'm paying for and they're not obligated to offer the other features to a non branded phone... Pure BS

Pixel 4s are eligible for those services.
Some get lucky and have no problem from the beginning and others have to harass AT&T for days until an engineer takes pity on you and spoofs your IMEI or provisions it on the backend.

I'm just going to switch when the month is up. This is just plain silly. They even refuse to write a ticket and refer me to the engineering department because they say that the unlocked Pixel 4 is not capable of HD Voice or Wi-Fi calling, and yet the branded one is.

For those who bought unlocked from Google and used on AT&T, in your account, does it show your phone as a pixel 4? On my account it just says its an unknown phone.

Side loading instructions are here. https://developers.google.com/android/ota
As far as the sim goes, I just moved mine from my P2XL to my P4XL, powered up, and it worked fine :good:
