If you have been using a EXT4 ROM and you want to restore a stock ROM that only has EXT3 support, it's a bit of a faff. Introducing BackToEXT3.
This ClockworkMod update zip simply converts your /system, /data and cache partitions back to EXT3. It wipes them both in the process, so you need to have an existing backup / ROM to restore to.

After installing FR12 custom ROM Vanilla Edition on my phone, I wanted to get back to stock so I installed - back to ext3 zip. Then when I tried to restore the stoc ROM, I got the error MD5 mismatch!
I want to specify that I tried a custom ROM before but with ext3, and I had no problem to return to the stock ROM.
Tool worked fine for me. fr10 back to stock.
Md5 error probably means ur nandroidbackup is damaged

Thanks MaBlo, I usually search everything on Google, but this time I forgot, lol.
Sorry guys, please correct me if I'm wrong as I'm trying to get it back to stock.
1. Copy img to ext SD card
2. Reboot into recovery e.g. CWM
3. update BackTOEXT3 image with CWM
4. run nandroid to restore stock image
Am I right? I keep getting stuck at the LG screen

What "img" are you talking about? Nandroid restore is for restoring a previous backup, not for flashing a rom image.
If you want to flash a stock rom image, you need to use smartflash or nvflash, unless you want to flash the 0622 one, which someone made available in CWM format. (Not completely stock though, as it is prerooted etc.)

please tell me is there any flashable which can convert to ext4?
It will be useful to convert from ext3 to ext4 before restoring a nandroid backup which was taken earlier from EXT4.

You don't need that. CWM automatically converts from ext3 to ext4 (if the backup is ext4), but not the other way round.
Can someone explain how to do a stock carrier rom backup so it can be later (or if something goes wrong during installation of custom rom) restored via odin.
how to do that and which odin version should i use.
Thanks in advance,

Rooted+CWM installed in your phone?
Use cwm recovery to backup your stock rom.
Root your phone, instalar cwm and do a backup.
To restore it you need first to convert the file System to rfs, and then restore the backup through cwm. This is because custom roms use ext4 file system and if you don't convert it, cwm won't restore your backup.

O, please give me link for that app. does that go like this:
install apk as any other
convert
do i have to have some special kernels or i can install it on custom rom
EDIT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158197 this is the link from ketut. do i have to flash whole cf root kernel or i can just install the app on my custom rom's kernel??

Well, if you are going to use cf-root ext4 manager to restore a stock backup its probably recommended to use cf-root kernel, and you will lose the custom rom you're using, so why do you care if it's just the app or the entire kernel?
I don't know if just the app will work, but it's irrelevant. Just Flash a custom rom with cf-root applied, or Flash the cf-root kernel, convert to rfs and you're good to go. You'll restore a backup and basically wipe any custom rom you were previously using.
Otherwise, a Odin one package will revert your file system to rfs, and wipe cwm recovery (so you need to root and istall cwm afterwards and then restore backup)
1. Root your phone
2. Install CWM
3. Backup your Current ROM*
4. Install yuour Custom ROM, and if something happen
5. Flash Stock ROM with odin
6. Root your phone
7. Install CWM
8. Restore your Current ROM*
Make sure you didn't wipe anything in your SD card..

Ext4 Manager app will convert your file System to rfs, so do it before restoring backup.
The other way, Flash a Odin one package, root, install cwm and restore.

Hi all,
Running ARHD 12.0 and installed the latest bullet proof kernel. Just wondering: if I were to reinstall ARHD without a data wipe would that restore the stock kernel?
If not, what is the latest stock kernel and where can I find it? I understand that there is an older stock kernel floating around that isn't as stable as the one out with the official 4.22.
Thanks as always,
Joel

reflashing ROM wont flash stock kernel
Stock kernel can only be flashed by running RUU or flashing OTA or FROM NANDROID BACKUP(made at the time when you had stock kernel)
If you didnt make nandroid before flashing bullet proof kernel then wait till 4.2.2 STOCK kernel "STARTS FLOATING AROUND"!!!

Incorrect. ARHD has a kernel in it; reflashing the rom WILL replace the kernel. OP can flash ARHD 12.0 without data wipe in recovery, or "fastboot flash boot boot.img" in bootloader after removing boot.img from the ARHD zip.
If you have a nandroid, all you would have to do is advance restore /boot partition.

Thanks! This is what I found, as well. I wrote down the bullet kernel ID info then dirty flashed ARHD and found that the kernel had indeed been returned to stock!

So as you all no, Ive unlocked my Bootloader and Rooted my phone.
Now i am trying to install the iHackers 2.1 ROM but am coming into confusion. I have not installed any other apps for the rooted device, i have a clean device with "Philz advance Recovery Kernel" Installed. That is all!
If i go through the process of installing the iHackers 2.1 ROM will this delete "Philz Advance Recovery"? As i think Philz recovery is a kernel
and iHackers wants me to install their Kernel. Correct? so the iHackers will replace philz recovery?? Am i right or wrong?
If im right then how would i install ROMS/WIPE DATA/CLEAR CACHE and that after ive installed the iHackers ROM???
At the end of the tutorial iHackers give they say install my desired Kernel after the Stock Kernel step. Is this were i replace "Philz Recovery"?
I here people installing DOOM's(Something) Kernel at this point. But does that mean they have lost the recovery Kernel?? Its confusing.
I would like the Doom Kernel everyone is using aswell as iHackers ROM as well as A Recovery Kernel lol, Not asking for much am i ! LOL
Could some help clear this up please, i have read many documents on here and havent wrapped my head round it yet. THANKS
The procedure should be like that, complete the iHackers procedure to install the room. After you did that if you lost the recovery you can flash any kernel with recovery via Flashtool, it's your choice. The recovery it's implemented in Kernel so don't get confused, after you install any rom you can flash any custom kernel with any recovery.

I'm having trouble restoring apps+data in Titanium Backup after flashing Android 6.0. I'm rooted (Supersu 2.50 plus modified boot.img provided by Chainfire).
When I restore the apps+data, the progess is stuck at 0%. I'm suspecting there's something wrong with my BusyBox, any thoughts?
Thanks
I think you have to manually set up the right folder in "preference".
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
Well, Titanium Backup does pick up the backup folder location and I could verify the backup files successfully. I've also tried installing Hellscore Kernel, still stuck at 0% during restore.
make sure youre using the latest version of titanium back up 7.2.2
its working for me
Goto menu preferences select another app processing mode
Sent from my SM-T800 using Tapatalk
I think I also tried the "indirect" app processing mode in the latest TB (downloaded from Google Play). I can't seem to restore the apps in 6.0, not even flashing update.zip created by TB.
Good thing I had a 5.1.1 nandroid backup, went back to that.
Any solution please? Here is happening the same..
I wrote before it was working for me, but that was when i had ElementalX kernel, now that i flashed modified boot by chainfire and root with 2.50 superuser. Its not working for me either.
Loved to hear if anyone solved this. @ayang02

So the solution would be to flash the ElementalX kernel instead of the chainfire one? If I want to flash the ElementalX kernel, I have to flash the stock kernel before, or I can do it from the chainfire one? What are the main differences between both kernels?
Thanks

I had ElementalX with 2.49 SU was working fine but when i tried to flash chainfire's boot image and Su 2.50 i was stuck at boot loop and had to flash factory image all over again.
I dont recommend you to try and do that. Although it might work. i dont know.
Did any of y'all factory reset and wipe internal storage? I read wiping the SD card will make it work
---------- Post added at 05:40 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:39 PM ----------
I can't find the exact post about it but it worked for me. Just make sure to backup all files to a computer before hand
I got it to work. Chainfire updated his boot.img for Nexus 6 and Titanium Backup also came out with a new version today. So I basically did a dirty flash from my 5.1.1 backup without wipe and everything worked for me. I didn't wipe this time, so the scenario is a bit different from my original post.
What I did:
1) I was using the latest bootloader + radio already, so I didn't flash those
2) Only Flashed system.img, Chainfire's boot.img, and cache.img
3) Install SuperSU 2.50 in TWRP
4) Reboot to System and waited for apps to upgrade
Some thoughts:
1) If your Titanium Backup has trouble finding the backup files, manually change the backup location to the correct one.
Titanium Backup's restore works for me now.
