Issue with EE this morning - Off-topic

Got my new M9 this morning from the Carphone Warehouse, went to have a play, but don't have a nano sim! Don't know how I missed that one!
No problem I thought, pop along to EE a get a new one. But the salesman there wouldn't give it to me as I hadn't bought the phone from them.
I pointed out to him that my contract is with them, and that they don't sell the M9 without a contract (I'd looked at their website before I'd even bought the phone). He said they are selling it (He was mistaken)
I told him I didn't understand why he couldn't swap it for me and he said he could have if I'd bought the phone from them, but because I hadn't I'd have to get one through customer service and wait 3 or 4 days. I still didn't understand why he couldn't just swap it for me, I've been with EE (or Orange, or T-Mobile) for the best part of a decade. I told him that my contract was up in June and perhaps I'd look elsewhere.
'Good' he said...
So I called the EE customer services and told them what had happened and they were less than pleased. Apparently, there should have been no problem at all swapping the sim over as I'd been a 'valued customer for years blah blah blah' and she'd sort it, which she did. She was excellent actually. I ended up going to Bluewater about 10 miles away and got my sim.
While there I asked the salesman if they were selling the M9 off contract and he said no. Shocker.
I'll be writing a letter of complaint tomorrow. I suspect he was being an arse for the sake of it

I use to get a new one pretty often shifting from an to iPhone. No problem with 3, they need something to do :
Sent from a mobile gadget...

The guy needs sorting out, unreal! Glad your sorted

Why... Google? AT&T version, no announcement!?

I freakin' bought my Nexus One unlocked about 5-6 days ago! Why couldn't they announce this ****!?
And they should have at least given some kind of exchange for the AT&T version. I do not want to pay a $45 restocking fee.
Anyone else got burnt by Google and HTC on this?
Surely you were aware of the fcc approval for a nexus one that's compatible with att, that happened nearly....three weeks ago?
That's horrible. Maybe you should call them?
Ouch.
I would call this an Apple move.
Friend bought an iphone for 200 bucks. One week later, they went on sale for 99.
Give Google a call and explain that you want to return your phone and swap it out for the ATT one. If they make you pay the restocking fee, it will be easier than having to sell it on your own...plus you run the risk of losing more than 50 bucks when offloading the phone on your own.
Called Google and HTC... both say no exchange is possible, only a return with a restock fee. How long does a return usually take? For me to get my money fully refunded?
At least you have the choice to just pay the restock some of us fell for the early release and now get to move to T-Mobile eventually....

Just sell it. Craigslist, Ebay, etc. That's what I am doing right now. I would rather have to pay 100ish bucks for a phone that uses 3G on my current provider than have to worry about changing providers and suffering until then.
hmmm news about the nexus one heading to att beeen out for months.
It even passed FCC regulations a few weeks back.
So basically because you were impatient and wanted it NOW!! your trying to blame google and HTC?
I have a friend that wanted the nexus one but did not want to switch to tmobile or be stuck on edge. You know what he did after I told him that it was heading to att?
HE WAITED!! so easy to do.
Just pay the restocking fee and stop *****ing about it. IS YOUR FAULT!! not theirs.
Find somebody that wasn't a T-Mobile one, have them buy the AT&T, then trade?
Does anyone know if there will be problems rooting this one vs the regular t-mobile one, as I am about to buy it...
Should be the same rooting process as the AWS version.
I'm not surprised this has causes such a stir, lol... I convinced my buddy to buy the N1 for use on AT&T. He finally gave in about 2 weeks ago... now he wants ME to sell the AWS version.
Just return it and buy an ATT one.

Nothing has changed on the hardware except for the band swap. Same exact phone.

The UN-unlockable HD7

So maybe I'm the only one in the world with an HD7 that can't be unlocked.
I bought one on Kijiji new in the box. I'm in Toronto and planned to use it on Wind Mobile. I read of others enjoying their unlocked T-Mobile HD7's. So I bought mine today, sold my old phone the same day and found out that my phone cannot be unlocked.
I have tried 4 different websites for unlocking and all failed. I called HTC and they said to speak to the carrier. The carrier said to get a plan with them and in 40 days I can have the code. Doesn't make much sense being that I don't live in the U.S. or within hours of their service areas.
Finally the sales person says to fax them a receipt and they can provide the code in 24 hours or 2 weeks if they don't have it in their database and have to retrieve it from HTC. I doubt I can get a receipt from the seller and I feel like I just spent $500 on a paper weight.
Anyone have any suggestions??
EDIT: mobileincanada.com surprisingly sent me an email last night saying they updated their database and if I re-ordered they could probably have the code for me in a few min. So I took another shot and they actually had one. I guess it could an updated database to solve the problem!!

Sorry:
http://pocketnow.com/windows-phone/microsoft-discusses-homebrew-app-support-for-windows-phone-7
you need to get someone that have t-mobile account to do it for you
Hey go on tmobile's website and go to the online chat help section and talk to someone there and just be kind and tell them the truth. I found that they are really helpful. Just tell the person u bought it from a tmobile store (dont say kiji) and that ur in canada and are not a tmobile customer. They'll understand. Im in canada and was thinking of doin what u did and buying one and then unlocking it so to be safe i talked to a tmobile rep b4 buying anythin and she was really understanding and told me she would unlock it for me after i purchased it( not sure if they wouldve kept their word since i havent bought mine yet)...
as long as you bought it at full retail, they should give you the unlock code. The 40 days only applies if you got it at a discount as a new line of service.
I was in the same situation, tried over 10 websites and none of them had the unlock code in their database. Luckly I was able to get the receipt from the seller and got T-Mobile to unlock the phone. Took T-Mobile less than 24 hrs to send me the code. Like the other poster said, try the T-Mobile online chat, they are very helpful.
Thats crazy.. was planning on picking up an HD7 to use on Wind soon in Toronto. Would be brutal if it can't be unlocked.
Did any of you guys who had problems try mobileincanada.com for the unlock code?

Yup tried mobileincanada.com, didn't work and got a refund.
Most of the sites claimed they should be able to unlock the phone in a few weeks when their databases are updated.
edit: What you could also do is bring a laptop with you when you buy the phone and check if the phone is unlockable here http://www.htcimeiunlock.com/check-imei.php
^man that really sucks.. you had tried 10 different sites? Also thanks for the tip on htcimeiunlock site.
So T-mobile was pretty helpful about the situation as long as you had the original receipt? good to know.. worse case i'll just go for a quick drive and pick one up.
I tried all the sites you all listed here and NONE of them worked. I even found some other site called UNLOCKINGONLINE.COM. They say claim to have access to some newer databases and recommend using a certain unlock option if you're phone is an HTC device manufactured after March or May 2010 I think it said. But it's a premium rate of $39.99 which of course they say they will refund if unsucessful.
Well I tried them as my last resort and guess what? I've had no response from them since last night and they promise a 5-30 min turnaround time on 99% of all unlocks.
So now I'm worrying about the 4 or 5 refunds I'm expecting for all the various unlocking sites I tried AND they guy I bought my HD7 from has decided to no longer respond to my messages. Maybe he knew I couldn't unlock it before hand and took my money and ran.
I guess my last option is the online chat with T-Mobile a few of you have suggested. Otherwise I'm just going to sell it and let someone else figure out how to unlock it.
I tried the online T-Mobile chat and they said unless I bought it right from T-Mobile and have a receipt they will not unlock it for me.
Can anyone offer some advice on either what I can say to them or perhaps if one of you are an existing T-Mobile client you could offer me some assitance??
I'd hate to have to get rid of it now
Hopefully with some time these databases for unlocking will get updated?
I'm close to buying one off something through kijiji in toronto as well.. he just dropped the prices recently, really hope its not the case where the phone cannot be unlocked. Considering I only see one guy selling in toronto I don't think I should take the chance.

Just a heads up the only guy on Kijiji is the guy I bought mine from yesterday. He got back to me now and says he doesn't have retail receipts as he buys from a wholesaler. He says he'll see if there is anything he can do for me.
EDIT:
Here's for anyone else having Sim unlocking problems but can actually get the sales receipt. I just got this in my email:
Unlock Code: Waiting For FAX - MSRP
Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. At this time, we will need a copy of the original sales receipt to be faxed into the SIM Unlock Team showing full retail purchase price was paid for the equipment. The fax number is 813-353-6557. Your request will be placed in pending status for 7 business days to allow time for processing. Please include the following information with the fax.
" ATTN: SIM Unlock Team
" Remedy Form#
" Customer's Full Name
" Contact number
" Customer's Email Address (optional)
" Copy of the original sales receipt showing the Full Retail Purchase Price of the handset.
Thank You,
Sim Unlock Department

Yup, was talking to him as well, and he mentioned someone bought one and is unable to unlock it. Really sucks, wanted to grab this phone, but going to wait I guess if there's really an unlocking issue right now.

Well I would still buy one IF you weren't in a rush to set it up and didn't mind possibly waiting for a couple weeks for the code. Just don't do what I did and get rid of your current phone with expectations the new one will be up and running in minutes..
If the Kijiji guy did buy in bulk, maybe you can ask him to use http://www.htcimeiunlock.com/check-imei.php to check if the rest of his phones are unlockable and if it is try asking for an exchange.

Yeah thats still not a bad idea. It's for a secondary line I have on Wind and currently just using it with a cheap phone. Wonder how long the unlock will take though..

Think he has one left and I asked him about trying that tool but he didn't answer. Sounds like he just found out recently that they're not unlockable right now.

Well I should probably mention that after he got back to me today about my issues he did promise to go home tonight to see if the other one he had left was unlockable immediately. And if it was he assured me he would let me switch mine for that one. So perhaps that's why he didn't answer you, not sure.
But once I'm out of options and anyone wants mine (that's willing to wait of course) you're welcome to buy it from it me.
I'm going to try taking a walk around here at lunch for fun and see if any of these guys on Yonge St. can unlock it.
^Thats true, he doesn't have it with him so can't check now. He's been a nice guy though, and that's cool if he can let you swap it if its unlockable.

Questions regarding sprint nexus 6

I read online sprint will have it this Friday. I called sprint customer service and they didn't even know what phone I was asking about. I signed up for there pre order page where you put your email. I'm yet to receive anything, I just don't wanna be left out if they release it Friday because I work that day but could make plans not to if sprint is gonna sell it in stores. This remind me of missing out on a s3 when they came out waited in line just to get told sold out. Google dropped the ball with this phone release. Everyone *****ed about the phone but everyone buying it. If anyone know someone that works at sprint or work there themselves what's really gonna happen Friday?

So is the AT&T N6 SIM locked or not?

I'm confused. Are the N6 phones carrier locked?
I travel to Europe every other year for about two months to see family and I normally just pickup a pre-paid SIM while I'm there for my phone. Last trip I called up AT&T International and told them my plans and they got my IMEI from me and gave me the code to unlock my phone so I could pick up a pre-paid SIM. This was in there best interest as it kept me a happy customer and I renewed my contract when it was up. I've since sold that phone to help cover part of the cost of my AT&T N6.
Yesterday I contacted AT&T International again and asked for the same thing. This time I'm told they do not do that and never have and that I need to go threw some link to request it to be unlocked. Unfortunately that link very specifically says you have to finish your contract of pay the ETF or if Next, pay off the device.
This is NOT what happened last time. I was 100% for sure under contract, I was 6 months into my new contract with AT&T as a NEW customer. This time around I'm a renewed customer and they will not do this for me.
This is going to make me leave AT&T on principal. Unlocking my phone does not release me from the agreement I signed but as mentioned above does keep me a happy customer.
Googling I found this... Seems this is a new thing and others have had issues. Interesting the way they kissed his ass when they found out he writes tech reviews and said they were looking into ways to help out international travelers with this, looks like they have done nothing.
http://arstechnica.com/staff/2014/11/atts-outdated-unlock-policies-cost-it-a-loyal-customer-me/
So I happened to mention to a friend I need to look into moving to Sprint or something else that will buy out my contract so I can have a phone to take with and he said ummm I don't think N6's are carrier locked.
Now I know I could buy a cheap phone but its the point of the matter. EVERYTHING I do is on "this" phone. I don't want to take two phones, I want to take THIS phone and I don't want to pay for AT&T International service.
@kdoggy
Yes, AT&T N6 is carrier locked. You can not get the unlock code from AT&T unless your device is paid off.
But there are a number of 3rd party companies that will sell you the code for $10 to $25. Look for an older thread in this General section with a title something like "undo AT&T customization".
Or do a Google search for carrier unlock codes.
This phone wasn't carrier locked out of the box was it? I remember now when I first set it up I followed some instructions to NOT get the AT&T customizations that involved removing the SIM etc but then the second time I re-flashed the phone I forgot to do that and now I get the carrier crap. Previous to that my Google Play account KNEW it was an Nexus phone but did not know what carrier it was. It just said Unspecified Nexus 6. After that refresh without removing the SIM for the first part of the setup, it now gets the crap and Play says AT&T Nexus 6.
Sigh, OK yeah I'll pay $10~25.00 dollars. I'm not happy about this on principal though. Them unlocking my phone does not release me from my contract. Looks like I may have to evaluate in another few months when my Next is up.
@kdoggy
Yes, the AT&T version was carrier locked out of the box.
Ah OK. Yeah just read the thread you spoke of. Sounds like the SIM card thing was just for the bloat.
OK well this helped, screw AT&T, I'll just pay the money and remember this next go around. We have been on a family plan for the past few years but I'm in the middle of a divorce right now so I may just go Verizon when this contracts up. Nothing keeping me on AT&T anymore. Previously it was just because the wife and kids were on AT&T too.
I can say for a fact that the Tmobile version of the N6 comes unlocked. I got mine and was able to pop in my att sim without having to unlock it. I even got it replaced through warranty (bad battery) and was able to use my At&t sim on this one too. But as far as I know Tmobile and the international version are the only ones to come unlocked.
The Sprint and Verizon models are unlocked as well.
The US Cellular version is totally unlocked as well...for all carriers.

My AT&T Rant

Okay. So I'm going to jump right into this, Basically all at&t members get a 14 day period if you buy a phone or get it on contract with AT&T Next. The 14 days is to decide whether you want the phone or want a different one or just don't want a phone at all. So I was going to trade in my S6 for an S7. So I drive 30 minutes to the nearest AT&T store and, I basically get told That I can't trade it in at a different store so he gives me a location. I drive 1 and a half hours to a Store and They tell me "Sorry, You can't trade in phones that have been ordered online here". So I basically Got lied to by a rep on the phone then lied to by a in-store rep. The reps told me which stores to go to and, Completely Failed to mention about the Return Shipping. Not only did AT&T waste my time. My 14 day period ends tomorrow so I'm basically screwed. Tired of Reps giving incorrect information. I'll just call em up tell them I'm going to switch carriers and see how it goes. I guess its come to the point where I have to do crap like that. They already took 5 days to ship my phone initially. "Overnight" Not so overnight at all.
Thank You AT&T for your horrible information.
Should bring it up in ATT forums. More effective there
I sold the s6 and bought the international s7 with unlocked bootloader.
Nice
Idk I mean they are pretty similar but that is bull. Mean I have an s6 but I'm gonna buy a Nexus next time. Att can stay with their ****ty locked bootloader
Not to mention they just terminated one of the phones on my bill without my authorization! WTF! I had to get my bill credited. I'm so done with AT&T.
