Obtaining Nano SIM from Verizon

I currently have a Galaxy S3 on Verizon which of course uses a micro SIM. I need a nano SIM for the Nexus 6. Given that Verizon is the only carrier not listed on the news about the phone being available later in November, what are the chances that I will be able to get a nano SIM from a Verizon store to use in my Nexus 6 (assuming I ever get to order one from Google Play)? Will they just give me one if I go in and ask for it? Will I need to have the Nexus 6 with me? If so, what are the chances they refuse to give me the SIM if they haven't approved the phone yet?

The phone will work if bought from the manufacturer. They won't approve devices bought from T-Mobile most likely becsuse they can white list imei.
I've exchanged regular to micro sim before at a Verizon store with phones I got off contract. Just take the phone with you.

Step 1: Walk into VZW.
Step 2: Ask for Nano Sim.
Step 3: Walk out of store with Nano Sim.
I'm not sure why people think it's going to be some complicated situation to get one.

VERIZON don't just give out sim cards. They require u to have the device with you when you go into the store.

I've tried twice in store to get one and they won't do it. I have ordered several online without a problem

As far as I know you can't order them from Verizon online. I've gone in with both phones and tell them I bought this phone and want to replace it with my current one. They provision it on my account and pop it in.

[Q] Verizon couldn't activate my Nexus 6 bought from Moto - HELP!

Brought my new Nexus 6 from Moto Store to VZW today and the rep said it could not be activated. Said the phone doesn't show up in their system.
So I resorted to cutting down my Note 3's Micro Sim. I have barely any plastic left on the sim now but it doesn't fit in the tray. What am I doing wrong?
Please help.

I'd ask them to activate a Nano SIM for your Note 3, then swap it into the Nexus 6. It shows up in their system as a "Non VZW Device." If they refuse, try calling other stores until you find one that'll do it for you.

But how would Verizon give me a Nano Sim for my Note 3 when it takes Micro Sim?

It's my understanding that they can activate the Nano SIM through their computers without actually having to place it in the phone.

Tell them to give you a nano Sim and an adapter so it will work in your note3.
Tell them you are wanting yo future proof your Sim card. Should be no charge.
Then do the swap as suggested above.

From what I've been told, verizon won't activate a nano sim for a phone that doesn't take a nano sim. I would keep trying stores or ask if they can activate it on an in store device and then swap it to your phone. They did for me.

I called customer service, gave them the part number posted elsewhere in these threads & they sent my nano sim free of charge. Once in hand, I put it into a micro adapter and put it into my vzw galaxy S4, called customer service and they activated the Sim in my s4. Then I transferred the sim to my Nexus 6. Everything works fine once I reset network from global to LTE.

I wanted to share my experience activating a nano sim for a LG G2 on Verizon in anticipation of my Nexus 6 arrival (which I bought from Motorola's website). I went to the Verizon store and requested a nano sim but they refused unless I had a device that took one. I tried various stories and stores trying to get a sim with no success. I called customer service and requested a nano sim the rep said, "sure no problem," and three days later I got a micro sim in the mail. I called back and this rep said the problem was their system automatically issues the sim appropriate to the device on the account. She transferred me to technical support and the guy somehow got a nano sim order for my current device (LG G2). I bought a nano to micro adapter and today the nano sim arrived. I put it in the phone went online and activated it. No problems! I now have a nano sim ready for when my Nexus 6 arrives. I can't believe it worked, I thought I was going to have to cut my micro sim. Any way, good luck to other Verizon customers that don't have a nano sim already. I guess you can ask for tech support and hope they are cool like they were for me.

Went back to the store to try this. He wasn't able to activate a nano sim for my note 3 because system said incompatible device. While he's standing there scratching his head I ask him for a pair of scissors. I look at the nano he was about to give me and I cut my micro to the same size. Throw it in the Nexus and it worked.
All set.

Ummmm yeaaaahh. I had this problem too. Coming from a Note 4, I had a micro sim so I ordered a nano knowing that is what I would need. I got the nano long before my phone arrived. Upon placing the nano in the N6 and trying to activate, VZW told me they don't support the phone and could not activate. Convinced the dude to activate the nano sim anyway but it still would not work on the VZW network. When I tried to place a call I got patched to an operator to make a global call using a credit card. Not ideal Finally I reverted back to the nano sim that I had saved from the driod turbo I bought (returned a week later) and called support level 2 once again. They guy said the sim was deactivated since it had been a couple weeks since it was active on the network. After a couple attempts, he was able to finaggle the turbos nano sim # to once again become active. I slapped that puppy in the N6 and she started working finally. Phew!
I bought a nano to micro sim adapter that I use to go between the N6 and Note 4 that works without issue. If I didn't have the nano from the turbo I am afraid I would still be without a functional N6. The VZW reps in my town are complete idiots and I am sure they wouldn't even try anything to help me out. I guess I got lucky.
The kicker here is why Google advertised this phone to work on VZW with the Verizon logo and everything! I can't believe the VZW support team are oblivious to this device. He said he "heard of the Nexus 6 but know we (they) don't support it". WTF gives!?!?!?

Yes you can do that, as well. My reply to the other post still stands. If you say you need a nano for a device that doesn't need one then you won't get it lol. If you call all you have to do is say you want a nano sim for an M8 and if you go in store all you have to do is ask them to activate it on another device in their store and then swap it to your nexus 6. Can't ask for a nano sim for a micro sim device, is my point. Verizon won't go for that, but there happens to be plenty of workarounds.

I spent an hour and a half at verizon trying to get a nano. Coming from the note 3 they wouldn't give me one regardless because of their system showing only micro compatible. I went to best buy. The lady pulled out a nano sim, activated it on my account no questions. Popped it in my nexus and all worked fine. Also gave me nano to micro adapter free of charge

I bought a Moto X from a VZW store last month so already had nano sim. I popped my nano sim in my new 6 today and got service within 30 seconds. Everything works like a champ.

Just to be clear, was your S4 the phone you were using prior to getting the N6? It was already active on VZW with a micro SIM when you called to activate the nano SIM?

Activation on Verizon
I came from a S3 micro sim. I ordered a nano sim via the phone and had it activated once it arrived. While having it activated, my S3 was turned off and sim removed. I also had an issue with my N6 not being recognized. Once I explained the issue, they activated the sim alone. No issues since. I've been into the store and I've seen one tech guy with an N6.

Thanks. Ordered my nano SIM today and will try the same approach with my S3 once it arrives so I'm ready to go once my N6 gets here.

So I spent an hour and half in Verizon today. The person I had could not get my N6 on Verizon. I pulled out my old Galaxy Nexus and activated that phone. I came home and called customer service and told them I just purchased an M8. They are sending me a nano sim. What exactly do I do when the nano sim arrives?

[Q] Google play Nexus 6 on Verizon

Hello this is my first time posting on this forum. I recently purchased the google play edition 32 gb nexus 6. From all the reviews that I have read it should work fine on verizon. However when I went into the store expecting it to be as quick as putting in a new sim card that did not happen, go figure its verizon. I currently have an htc m7 and unfortunately its not the same sim size as the nexus 6. I was told by the sales rep that he could not activate my device because it was not on the approved list. Id really hate to be out 650 bucks with a useless device. I would happily switch carriers however my wife just recently upgraded to the iphone 6 which extended our contract. Any advice would be appreciated thank you very much.

Get a Sim cutter and cut your Sim down, that's what I did. Its easy to do, or use scissors or exacto knife - I've heard some have done that without issues.

Or you could ask for a nano sim card and activate it online or with your wife's iPhone since it uses nano sim card... Just tell them you bought an iPhone or HTC one m8 on eBay or something and that you need a nano sim card...

Yeah... I used myself a nano sim cutter like beelow319 since last November/ December... I think that's just the easiest route... They're pretty cheap on Amazon and come with a nano to micro sim adapter just in case you need to use your old phone...

Cut current sim card to nano OR get new nano sim card using iphone IMEI - Verizon

My carrier is Verizon. I have an individual plan with a 2 year contract. My phone is an LG G3.
I recently just bought a Nexus 6 right off of the Google Store. The Nexus 6 takes a nano Sim card and unfortunately for me my current Verizon sim card in my LG G3 is a micro sim.
After going back and forth with Verizon I realized there is no official way of getting a nano sim card for a Nexus 6 IMEI bought directly from Google.
My unnoficial options:
1. Get a sim card cutter off of Amazon and cut my current sim card and put it in my Nexus 6. Then sell my LG G3 on EBay. When the next user gives the IMEI to a Verizon rep will this cause a problem since technically the IMEI / Sim number combo is still on my account?
2. An employee at a 3rd party Verizon reseller said he could just activate a new nano sim card using an IMEI number from a dummy iPhone that he has laying around. If I go this route my account will have an iPhone and a G3 on it I guess. Would I have to worry if the employee does the same thing for someone else? Does Verizon keep track of IMEIs or just device names on peoples accounts? If I go this route I will also be selling my G3 on EBay.
Can someone who has knowledge on this topic please tell me which path they would prefer and why? I would like to know the downsides of each method.

Once you pop the SIM in the N6, it will show up on your account as "Non-VZW device". The phone you use to activate the SIM will no longer show. So it doesn't matter what you do with the other phone afterwards.
I would go with the second option though so you don't have worry about cutting the SIM down. I thought it was really easy and I cut my micro down with scissors while I was sitting in traffic, but some people have had issues.

Thank you for the response this is exactly what I was looking for!!! Any idea why my google voice won't work. Is it possibly because I was subscribed to Verizon Visual Voicemail Basic on my previous phone? I have never had problems setting google voice up on any of my past verizon phones until the N6.

Make sure that call forwarding didn't get turned off on your line. I had to call Verizon support & get a rep to turn it back on. Or dial *72 and then your Google voice number.

Decided on the Verizon Note8... SIM card question

Can I take the SIM card out of my current Note4 and put it into my Note8? My Note4 and SIM card are just about 3 years old. Is there any lost functionality by not getting a new SIM card or should I just go to a Verizon store and get a newer SIM card? Any advantages or disadvantages to either approach (current SIM card versus new SIM card) like an activation fee or anything like that?

The SIM card is a nano compared to the older micro in your awesome Note4, I had one too before the Note8
You can cut the SIM card to size but there is a chance you can cut it incorrectly and have issues, also a cut SIM card is not covered when you bring it into a store.
Your best bet is go get a new nano SIM at your provider.
I cut my SIM and I am not experiencing any issues but I do want to get a new one soon.

Ok, I figured there was likely a change in something over the last 3 years. Do you know if they will charge me the ridiculous activation fee ($35, i think?)?

It has been suggested by all carriers that new SIMs be used because there have been several issues with previously used SIMs and provision functionality...in other words, there is better connections and access to carrier functions when using new SIMs...most are free from your carrier...I tested my s7e SIM and a new SIM and while they are both from my carrier, only the new SIM provisioned WiFi calling correctly and there was a considerable change in data speeds...just an idea though...

One more question... Do i need the SIM card installed in the phone to actually go through the phone setup? I'm guessing not, but wasn't sure if it had to go through the setup all over again once the SIM finally is installed. I should get the phone today but probably won't get to a Verizon store to get a new SIM until a day or 2 from now. Thanks.

In most cases you shouldn't, and don't require a SIM card to get through the setup wizard, however I'm not sure if the process is different for US carriers so don't take my word for it.
Popping a SIM card in the phone after setup is complete also shouldn't be a problem.

I just did this yesterday went from the Note 4 to the Note 8 and Verizon gave me the sim for free. The only thing is they had to activate it while in the store so bring you Note 8 with you if you have already bought it. They didn't charge me anything however if you are upgrading through them (getting the Note 8 while there) they may.

This is perfect! I just got my Note8 in the mail today. (came a day earlier than expected)! I'll take it with me over to the Verizon store and hopefully I have the same experience as you did. Thanks!
