Ok, just upgraded to Lollipop over the weekend and now I'm getting no notifications on my lock screen.
All settings look correct to me and it was working before the upgrade. The "When device is locked" is set to Show all notification content and "Notification Access" is set for the Style Cover app, the only one present. No apps are set to Block, Sensitive or Priority.
Per company policy the device is set to use a pin. This is required when connecting to our Exchange server so no options to change that.
All I really need or want is the notification icon for missed calls, texts, or emails. I don't need the actual content or who called and all that. Super annoying right now to have to unlock the phone to see if a work email came in or text. I was waiting for the old lady to let me know about some test results for our son and I was sitting here waiting for an hour on pins and needles and didn't see that she had already text that all was good. Woe is me!! haha!
Spotify is also not working. Shows the album art but no controls.
Anyway, any ideas? This is super irritating. TIA

When the PIN is enforced you will not see notifications on the lock screen. I suspect that's how it's intended to work as the enforced PIN is there to protect company data but i will forward the feedback internally.
It may perhaps work if you download a 3:rd party ActiveSync client but i do recommend that you check with your IT-department if this is allowed.

Thanks for this. I had done some testing before seeing your reply by dumping the Active Sync account and checking notifications. As you verified, they stop working after the policy is applied from Exchange.
3rd party AS client is a good idea. I'm going to give that a try.
Sounds like a small thing but unlocking just to see if I got a text or call is getting old fast...
Ok, here is the fix I used in case somebody else runs into this.
Deleted stock active sync account, cleared credentials, and removed PIN settings.
Installed the Nine email app which allows you to apply the security policy only to the app or to the device. Chose the default of apply to app. Setup active sync on Nine. Notification all work! Yay!
Only downside here is that you now have to use a pin to open the Nine app. I did change the timing on the Nine pin settings to be the longest allowed which is 30 minuted I believe. During a normal day this should work and eliminate frequent pin requests while accessing the app. Small price to pay I guess.
Lock screen and PIN is now not enforced for the device but I elected to have a pin here as well. I prefer to have my device not be wide open. Notification on the lock screen now all follow the normal settings found under Settings>Sound & Notifications>When Device is Locked. Perfect...
I did attempt the same process but changed the Nine security model to Device Level but after that I couldn't even get it to sync my account. I might mess with this later but for now I'm good to go.
Thanks for the help

I am using the built in email app to connect to my Exchange server and I have my phone with me at work like most people.
What I experience is a message will come in to my mailbox, instantly I get the notification in both Outlook and the N1. I will read the message in Outlook, decide to keep it (mark it as unread)/delete it (move it to deleted items) and the N1 will keep notifying me via Trackball glow that I have an unread message even though I've read it.
If I read or delete a message on the N1 it is always pushed back to the Exchange server (and consequently Outlook) immediately.
Anyone else experience this? It is okay when I am not near Outlook, but when I'm in the office it is very annoying to be alerted about messages that I've already read or deleted.
This type of behavior is not happening on my iPhone 3GS when I had it connected and this type of behavior does not happen for my GMail account on the N1.
I actually believe the update to a message from read to unread may actually get pushed to the device they just don't clear the notification. I can confirm this by going in to the mail app and I noticed all the changes I've made are up to date.
The issue seems to be that the notifications won't auto-clear on the N1 once the changes have already been pushed to the phone. This really sucks
Can anyone confirm my findings? Thanks
I can also confirm this. The notification has to be cleared manually. Once the notification is there it's there until you acknowledge it.
Froyo, Desire, they all do that. Notification doesn't clear automatically apparently. Would be nice if it did. Once a check of unread/read is done, just clear the alerts once open/moved etc..

Google Mail notifications will clear automatically so it is definitely something they left out inadvertently. I hope they can fix it soon.
I switched back to my iPhone for the time being because of this. Does anyone know if there have been any attempts to fix this issue in 2.3?
Thanks.
I'm using the latest cm-10.1-20130730-UNOFFICIAL-tenderloin and it was freshly installed on a brand new touchpad (i had one sitting in a box for ages(
However, with everything working on it, i find that the notifications don't seem to work.
for eg, i don't get notifications when i get a new fb message or a google hangouts message.
i have to open the app and manually refresh it for it to get the new data.
any ideas on what i can do?

I would go into Settings and take a look at the Accounts. Verify sync is on for the accounts in question.
Could also go into the Apps area as well. I believe there is a show notifications box that you can check
for the two apps.

show notifications is ticked on for both apps already.
it seems that when it's in the lock screen nothing comes through, but when i unlock it, i get a mass of notifications all at once.
almost seems like it's blocking data when the screen is locked but i can't find any power profiles etc to fix this...
any ideas?

Alot of devices and ROMS will have Wifi turn off while sleeping to avoid battery drain.
Go into Advanced settings for Wi-fi and adjust the Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep setting.
Hi, before I buy one wanted to find out three things if someone could assist.
-With voice commands and driving, is it true I still need to press an on screen button to send a message to someone via SMS
-With voice commands, can you schedule an appointment with a synced calendar other than Googles. I sync to an exchange calendar and when I played with google now a while back, it only created appointments via voice to the google calendar.
-with active notifications, what happens if you have three notifications? Does it also always show the screen when you take it out of your pocket. Hoping that it does?
thanks all
Voice commands will work similar to how they have on other Google NOW capable devices. So yes, you still need to press "Send message" to send it. As for the exchange stuff. If you could do it on another device, you can do it on this one.
Active notifications will show what you tell them to show. There are settings that allow you to choose what apps display. As the active notifications use the proximity sensor to decide when to display, it will indeed show whenever it's removed from your pocket. If you have multiple notifications, dragging your active lock upward will bring you to the app that produced the most recent notification.
Is that about as clear as mud? I suck at explaining things. Lmk if you need any clarification.
Thanks, just curious on two parts. If you have multiple notifications, the only icon you see is the most recent. The only way to know the others is by swiping the status bar I assume?
If you have no notifications, I assume the screen will not turn on, is that correct?
thanks

If you have no notifications the phone will show you the time when you pick it up or pull it from out of your pocket.

If you have multiple ones the others (older) show up at the bottom of the active display.

Yesterday I set up my new Moto G5S Plus, and much to my dismay I am not getting any email notifications.
I have three email accounts: Gmail, Comcast and Yahoo. Unlike my previous phones, I had to set up all the accounts through Gmail.
This is my fourth smartphone, so it's not like I don't know what I am doing. I have gone through every menu and enabled every notification. I noticed that the quickest time to synch email is every 15 minutes, so I installed PNF No-root, which allowed me to shorten the time to every 5 minutes. This app worked very well on a previous phone. But it didn't help on my Moto G5S Plus.
If anyone who has this phone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate them.
Can you be more specific? Are you not getting any new email, not getting any notification that you have a new email, or not getting the notification sound when you get a new email? You can also try another email client, like K9 mail, and see if that makes a difference.

I have done several tests, emailing to and from my computer to my three email accounts. I don't get any sound or visual notifications on my Moto G5S Plus. However, I do get sound and visual notifications within minutes on my Honor 5X phone.
The email does eventually show up in the email app on my Moto, but I have to swipe down (refresh) on the screen for them to appear.
I don't want to switch to a different email client since my phone should work the way it is set up. The fact that I was the first person to post this problem with the Moto G5S Plus leads me to believe that everybody else's phones are working properly.
Note: I have also accessed the hidden System UI Tuner, and set the Power notification controls to Level 5 for my emails, but that hasn't helped either.
It usually happens when the phone is in 'Power Saving' mode. Other than that, I faced this when I added my Outlook email in the Gmail client (or as exchange account - don't exactly remember).
You may also check the 'Sync' settings. Maybe you've unchecked Emails there.
It should work just fine, though. If you don't have much data (or don't have problem backing it up) and/or don't want to mess much, do a factory reset and add the account.

Well, that's why I asked what your specific problem was. I'd say you're not getting the push notifications in a timely manner. And I've had that problem before. When I checked my phone in the morning, it would show no new emails, but if I refreshed a sync, several would show up that should have been received over night. I'm not sure I changed anything but I don't seem to be having the trouble any more. But I've played around with the phone more since I've gotten it and might have tripped over a setting that fixed it unknowingly. Is your Battery saver mode turned on? And again, I'd install K9 mail and load one email service you have into it. You can run more than one email program at a time. Then send an email and see if either mail programs receive it. Then you can uninstall K9. But at least you'd know if it was the email program or something else.

Thanks! I will certainly check it out. I just got off a chat with Moto support, and they had me go into Safe Mode and clear my cache, but that didn't solve the problem. Although I knew it wouldn't.

Thanks. I will try unchecking Power Saving mode. My Synch settings are all where they're supposed to be. Also, I spend many hours reloading all of my apps, photos, etc. on my phone, but it looks like I'll have to do a factory reset. Thanks again.

You were right! I turned off the Power Saving mode and immediately got email notifications -- both sound and visual. Thank you very much! I'm surprised that Motorola support couldn't have told me this.
Power Saving Mode main intention is so you can save some juice to pass the day or give you more time until you can charge it again when your battery reached threshold like 5% or 15%.
It's pointless to turn it on 24/7 unless you're on survival situation where email and such aren't as high priority as battery charge. It's more advisable to use the 'turn on automatically' option.

My pleasure
Those people rarely provide satisfactory answers, if at all! The kind of service they offer questions the very significance of having such a department because they only irritate the customers with the template answers - reboot, safe mode, clear cache and reset. I'll be surprised if they ever provide any other answer for any problem.
In a nutshell, contacting them is as worthy as putting axe on one's own feet, especially when it's a 'Lenovo' brand.
At least for the mobiles and related issues, we have this awesome XDA community.
My phone upgraded to Oreo just yesterday. One issue that I've noticed, that I also had when I briefly tested the beta, is that I no longer seem to be able to find setting to change the sound of specific labels on Gmail.
Previously on nougat I had this set up so, that only messages under primary will cause sound, others show notification without sound (social, promotions, updates, forums). Has this option been completely removed in Oreo, or just moved elsewhere? Can't find such setting anywhere in Gmail or notification settings now.

Thanks, although I'm either being really stupid, or that's not just the option I'm looking for. I've tried going through that, but there simply is no option to change the label notifications like it was possible on Nougat. I can't select what labels to notify for, but no option to select notification without sound.
Is there something really obvious that I'm missing?
Notifications for Specific Gmail Labels Gone?
I set up filters to sort IMPORTANT emails into specific labels. I relied on that feature heavily to know when an important email came in that I needed to look at. Now it is all or nothing and I'm interrupted constantly by having to look at my phone for every single email. My time is important and I don't want to be interrupted from a client meeting for a stupid coupon or newsletter. But DO NEED TO KNOW when I get something from my BOSS. I am seriously upset. Is this a GOOGLE update, or a SAMSUNG/Android issue? it seamed to start yesterday or the day before right after my upgrade to the new Android Oreo
Really miss the option that I have used for years.
Special label sounds for:
-Important clients.
-My webcam mailing me, etc etc
So, while driving I hear who sends me the mail so I can decide to park the car...
Any workaround?

Nope you are not stupid but a real Gmail user.
Not many people went this deep in Gmail.
First make filter into lable etc etc
It is a real loss. And I see no other options like a different mail client .
