My phone upgraded to Oreo just yesterday. One issue that I've noticed, that I also had when I briefly tested the beta, is that I no longer seem to be able to find setting to change the sound of specific labels on Gmail.
Previously on nougat I had this set up so, that only messages under primary will cause sound, others show notification without sound (social, promotions, updates, forums). Has this option been completely removed in Oreo, or just moved elsewhere? Can't find such setting anywhere in Gmail or notification settings now.

Thanks, although I'm either being really stupid, or that's not just the option I'm looking for. I've tried going through that, but there simply is no option to change the label notifications like it was possible on Nougat. I can't select what labels to notify for, but no option to select notification without sound.
Is there something really obvious that I'm missing?
Notifications for Specific Gmail Labels Gone?
I set up filters to sort IMPORTANT emails into specific labels. I relied on that feature heavily to know when an important email came in that I needed to look at. Now it is all or nothing and I'm interrupted constantly by having to look at my phone for every single email. My time is important and I don't want to be interrupted from a client meeting for a stupid coupon or newsletter. But DO NEED TO KNOW when I get something from my BOSS. I am seriously upset. Is this a GOOGLE update, or a SAMSUNG/Android issue? it seamed to start yesterday or the day before right after my upgrade to the new Android Oreo
Really miss the option that I have used for years.
Special label sounds for:
-Important clients.
-My webcam mailing me, etc etc
So, while driving I hear who sends me the mail so I can decide to park the car...
Any workaround?

Nope you are not stupid but a real Gmail user.
Not many people went this deep in Gmail.
First make filter into lable etc etc
It is a real loss. And I see no other options like a different mail client .

Hi. Long time iPhone user but new to Android as of two weeks ago. Bought the HTC One (AT&T) and am loving it so far.
However, I have been having issues concerning notifications through a couple apps. Specifically the MLB At Bat app and the CNN app. Let me start by saying that I have received notifications without issue when it comes to email, texts, and Facebook.
Now, with At Bat, I have notifications set up in the settings for the app (specifically for my favorite baseball team), and I technically do get notifications. What I mean by that is, if I happen to turn on my phone, I will see that a notification previously came in. However, I do not receive any audio or vibration feedback to accompany the notification. So, the phone doesn't actually alert me. The same case is true with the CNN app. In the settings for the app, I have set up to receive notifications for breaking news. Again, I technically get the notifications sent to my phone, so they will be there when I happen to check the phone for whatever reason. But when the notification is sent, I am not alerted in any way (no tone or vibration).
As I said before, I get notifications (accompanied with audio tone and vibration) without issue when it comes to emails, texts, and Facebook. I have scowered the system settings and the settings on the individual apps but everything appears to be in order. Thanks in advance for any help or direction you fine folks can provide.
edit: Also, I have uninstalled and reinstalled both apps, but nothing has changed.

Problem with notifications
So I just got my note 5 the other day. Naturally I have changed ring tones and spent some time personalizing my phone. The problem I'm having is with the setting for the messages notification. For some reason when I get texts the notification I hear is what is set for the "default" notification tone even though I have something else specified under the messages notification tone. I don't know how to fix this and would really really love some advice. Thanks in advance!!
Anyone have any advice on this? I would really like to fix it? Should I just take it in to Verizon store or is there something I'm just oblivious to?
Go in and open your individual message threads and click on the 3 dots in the top right hand corner opposite your contacts name.....and click on "customize" and then change your alerts from default to whatever tone you want.
That doesn't work. I did get it fixed though. Was a conflicting app causing the problem

How did you fix it? What app? Mine is doing this and it's driving me nuts!! Thank you
Yes, which app? My wife is complaining as well. I'd love to check this off the list of things she has to complain about...

Update:
I fixed this problem by changing her default message app from Message+ (Verizon's bloat app) to Messages (Samsungs stock app) and the individual message tones began to work. Hope this fixes it for you!!
Default notification
Had samwith problem I just put the default notification on silent had no problems since every thing works great
Yesterday I set up my new Moto G5S Plus, and much to my dismay I am not getting any email notifications.
I have three email accounts: Gmail, Comcast and Yahoo. Unlike my previous phones, I had to set up all the accounts through Gmail.
This is my fourth smartphone, so it's not like I don't know what I am doing. I have gone through every menu and enabled every notification. I noticed that the quickest time to synch email is every 15 minutes, so I installed PNF No-root, which allowed me to shorten the time to every 5 minutes. This app worked very well on a previous phone. But it didn't help on my Moto G5S Plus.
If anyone who has this phone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate them.
Can you be more specific? Are you not getting any new email, not getting any notification that you have a new email, or not getting the notification sound when you get a new email? You can also try another email client, like K9 mail, and see if that makes a difference.

I have done several tests, emailing to and from my computer to my three email accounts. I don't get any sound or visual notifications on my Moto G5S Plus. However, I do get sound and visual notifications within minutes on my Honor 5X phone.
The email does eventually show up in the email app on my Moto, but I have to swipe down (refresh) on the screen for them to appear.
I don't want to switch to a different email client since my phone should work the way it is set up. The fact that I was the first person to post this problem with the Moto G5S Plus leads me to believe that everybody else's phones are working properly.
Note: I have also accessed the hidden System UI Tuner, and set the Power notification controls to Level 5 for my emails, but that hasn't helped either.
It usually happens when the phone is in 'Power Saving' mode. Other than that, I faced this when I added my Outlook email in the Gmail client (or as exchange account - don't exactly remember).
You may also check the 'Sync' settings. Maybe you've unchecked Emails there.
It should work just fine, though. If you don't have much data (or don't have problem backing it up) and/or don't want to mess much, do a factory reset and add the account.

Well, that's why I asked what your specific problem was. I'd say you're not getting the push notifications in a timely manner. And I've had that problem before. When I checked my phone in the morning, it would show no new emails, but if I refreshed a sync, several would show up that should have been received over night. I'm not sure I changed anything but I don't seem to be having the trouble any more. But I've played around with the phone more since I've gotten it and might have tripped over a setting that fixed it unknowingly. Is your Battery saver mode turned on? And again, I'd install K9 mail and load one email service you have into it. You can run more than one email program at a time. Then send an email and see if either mail programs receive it. Then you can uninstall K9. But at least you'd know if it was the email program or something else.

Thanks! I will certainly check it out. I just got off a chat with Moto support, and they had me go into Safe Mode and clear my cache, but that didn't solve the problem. Although I knew it wouldn't.

Thanks. I will try unchecking Power Saving mode. My Synch settings are all where they're supposed to be. Also, I spend many hours reloading all of my apps, photos, etc. on my phone, but it looks like I'll have to do a factory reset. Thanks again.

You were right! I turned off the Power Saving mode and immediately got email notifications -- both sound and visual. Thank you very much! I'm surprised that Motorola support couldn't have told me this.
Power Saving Mode main intention is so you can save some juice to pass the day or give you more time until you can charge it again when your battery reached threshold like 5% or 15%.
It's pointless to turn it on 24/7 unless you're on survival situation where email and such aren't as high priority as battery charge. It's more advisable to use the 'turn on automatically' option.

My pleasure
Those people rarely provide satisfactory answers, if at all! The kind of service they offer questions the very significance of having such a department because they only irritate the customers with the template answers - reboot, safe mode, clear cache and reset. I'll be surprised if they ever provide any other answer for any problem.
In a nutshell, contacting them is as worthy as putting axe on one's own feet, especially when it's a 'Lenovo' brand.
At least for the mobiles and related issues, we have this awesome XDA community.
So I recently got a P20 Pro. On the whole am enjoying it and it's a good device.
One small thing I've noticed is for some apps (WhatsApp and Android Messages so far) it seems to display the time of the latest notification for that app for all notifications if there are multiple notifications for that app. If that makes sense.
Have a look at the screenshot attached. For WhatsApp they all say 52mins ago, although only the latest one was received 52mins ago. I've tried looking at notification settings both system wide and app specific. I can't seem to work out what the issue is.
Anyone had issues with this too? Or anyone got any suggestions to try fix this?
Same problem here. Can't change default tone for Messages, Gmail, Outlook, Outlook calendar and more... According to Huawei support (Norway), the development team is aware of the issue, and are "working on it".
Sorry, replied in wrong thread :silly:
Notifications are a mess on this phone. Can't expand them on the lock screen to read the full text or reply, can't long press and change notification-sound for each app like on every other phone running Oreo. The worst thing is that has been like this for months now and yet they haven't fixed it with a firmware update.
Hey there,
I want to change/enable the notification sounds on a new mail for the Outlook app.
I got to:
Settings --> E-Mail section --> Notifications --> sound for a new message
If I select this, I will be redirected to the notification settings of Android, where I can disable notifications.
Anyone having this as well?
How shall I change the sounds then?
Attached some screenshots of the screens (in German)
Anyone does have an idea?
I do have this in several apps, but here it's driving me nuts.
I had the same problem with Outlook. Ended up with uninstall, and changed notification sound first thing when I re-installed. Worked like a charm.
Any solution yet?
I'm having the same issue. I tried unistalling, rebooting and reinstalling but the issue is still there. I like to set different incoming message tones as I monitor several different accounts.
I'm having the same issue. I tried unistalling too, rebooting and reinstalling too, but the issue is still there. Sound for Outgoing is ok. Carsten
I connected Microsoft about this issue. After mentioning that it was in a Huawei P20 Pro, this is the response that I received:
"Thank you, i understand but this is really related to Huawei devices as it works on other devices with Android Oreo.
I'm really sorry about that but as i have said, this was reported to our Engineering Team and they confirm that's related to Huawei devices as they are customized.
Please let me know if you have any other questions"
Typical useless Microsoft answer

See this thread on how to access the Settings necessary to customize the notifications for all apps.
It works great! Let me know if you need help getting it working.
I've also created a thread here on how to do this with Tasker. I have unique notifications for each of my apps now, plus you can set additional conditions/triggers the other apps or methods don't allow. If you're not using Tasker yet you're really missing out on the potential this phone has. You can find the thread here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/hu...-to-custom-app-notifications-rid-one-t3821776
If it is a Huawei problem it is strange that you can set notifications for some apps (Hangouts and Whatsapp for instance) and not others. You would think if google can sort it for Hangouts they could do it for the messaging app! Makes no sense to me.

It's because some apps handle notifications in-app (like WhatsApp) and others let the Android system handle them. The ones that rely on Android handling in EMUI 8.1 seem to be forced to a single default sound. It's actually a very simple explanation as to what's happening, as to WHY Huawei would do this I'm as confused as you. There are a few available workarounds at least.

Yeah that blows my mind too. Different development teams, lack of a base standard and poor communication between teams maybe? That would be on par for some of Google's past work lol. A lot of programs have become fragmented from their own counterparts within the Google ecosystem I would think.

I now have a P20 Lite and my wife has an Honor 10.
This was driving me crazy, but that solution worked perfectly. Especially as I was already using Nova!
Cheers!
I have the same problem. Uninstalling Outlook and reinstalling, I now get a sound but I still can't change it. It only allows "Outlook Email" as my sound.
Same with the Sky Sports and BBC news app, I get the generic notification sound, no option for there own breaking news sound.
Same issues with Huawie P20 pro
I have the same problem with outlook, new mail notifications, very annoying!
for sent mail sounds, the option to change the sound is available, but no option to change the sounds for the received mail, it just doesn't make sense to me at all!
I agree it must be down to Huawie P20 pro
solved !
I have the very same problems, after reading many threads on here I came across this, and the app works 100%

If anyone still having trouble changing the sound for the received email on outlook.
Just install Alertify from google playstore and set a specific sound to use for outlook. Personally I really depend on seeing when an email arrives and I set up a car alarm mp3 to go off to be sure of it.
Hope this helps someone.
