My rooted Sony Xperia Z1S has recently picked up a new quirk. It seems to be random when it happens, but the volume buttons and power button suddenly will refuse to respond. The rest of the device is fine, it's not frozen or anything, it simply acts as if I'm not pressing those buttons at all.
Further more, the buttons apparently are fine..? I say this because when pressing and holding power and volume up, the device performs a hard reset. So, THIS it registers. After a reset, it's fine until the next time it decides to act up.
I can have workarounds to this, considering it's rooted, but I'm mainly curious as to why it's doing this, and if there's a way to actually fix this. It uses the stock rom on 4.3.

This is the second Sprint Touch Diamond I've had with this problem, and I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing it. I boot the phone fresh, then when it's done turn off the display with the power button. When I press the power button again, it turns on, and then the buttons stop working. The device is fully usable other than no buttons, including power, work. The display also stays on, and will not turn off after the normal period of time. I also noticed if I hold the power button, the pop-up for a soft reset will come up, but choosing yes does not actually soft reset it.
Has anyone else had this problem and fixed it without bringing it in?
Thanks!
Hey all.
I'm start facing this weird behavior today.
I am using the NUT .757 software, clean install, it was okay but since today my power button doesn't respond anymore. When i press the Volume up, the power menu comes out. Sometimes the Power button act well, but is just for few time.
Any ideas?
Ps: I was in a pool taking pictures. The phone was totally closed, no water inside, but since then it start to act weird. Actually, sometimes the scren wont turn off, and if i press to turn off the phone, it reboots itself.
Hi all,
This morning i check if my bootloader was unlocked, because i wan't to give it a try to root it.
I found out it was unlocked (holding down volume and press the power button)
After that, i rebooted my phone and everything worked normal.
Until a couple of hours later, my screen didn't wake up when i pushed the power button.
The homebutton and the backbutton where flickering (going on and off)
So, i waited for a couple of minutes, but nothing changed.
After (i think) 10 minutes, i hold the power button for a couple of seconds and the flickering buttons stopped.
Since then my phone doesn't repsond anymore. I tried the powerbutton for a while, and with the combination of holding the vol. up and down.
So far nothing helped.
Does anyone know what's wrong, and what i can do to wake my phone from its coma?
Thanks in advance!
Enjoy your weekend. Ben
Did you press the power button for a few second before the soft keys started going on and off? Does your phone show a green battery animation when you connect it to a charger?
If the soft keys started flashing on their own, and if your phone doesn't show any signs of life even when you attempt to charge it, I'm afraid this is a hardware problem which no one can fix online.
let's wait and see what more experienced members have to say.
I am currently on 6.0.1 build MOB30G stock. At times the power and volume button don't respond. no matter how hard you press them. If the screen is locked, the only way to turn on the screen is to get a call or attach the charger or simply press the power key for 10 seconds+ and the phone restarts. Rest of the time the buttons seem to work properly. Judging its more of a software problem than a hardware one , I have done a factory reset on the phone.. but the problem has reoccurred. I believe a recent ota update may have caused it.
Any one else facing the same issue?
Randomly throughout the day, my phone changes the ringer volume from vibrate to the lowest sound tick on the ringer. This happens at least 5 times per day (usually more) as long as the privacy switch isn't set to a silent mode. This happens on OOS, lineage, RR, etc. This happens to both me and a friend all the time. He bought his 3T a few weeks after I got mine, we're both bootloader unlocked, have different versions of TWRP, he runs OOS and I run Sultan's lineage build normally. Basically we're both extremely annoyed at this little issue. We cannot figure out why it's happening but it happens to both of us regardless of ROM or firmware version. This has to be a software issue, what are the chances that we both got devices with a hardware issue. I have a 64gb gray, he has a 128gb black, purchased about a month apart, no way we have phones from the same batch. Any help to fix this annoying little issue would be greatly appreciated.
Is you phone in your pocket when it happens? Any chance it can be something as simple as the power & vol rocker being pressed when the phone is in your pocket? Reason I say power & vol rocker, is that both would need to be pressed for the vol to change (pressing vol up/down when screen is off will normally do nothing).
Hasn't happened to me on this phone. But on my old M8, once in a while when crouching down (with phone in my pocket), the power button would be depressed long enough to reboot the phone. Although the power button was on the top of that phone (and easier to accidentally depress, I would think). I was starting to think there was some hardware/software fault making the phone reboot; before I realized it was just me depressing the button on accident.

It happens even after sitting still on my desk after an hour of not being touched. It's been going on ever since I've had the phone. Definitely not accidental presses

I know that with some custom ROMS, it works in sets of three.
Alarms/priority/all notifications
Total silence/vibrate/ring
At least it's what I've noticed. And only with a few custom ROMS.
Hope this helps.
