Some thing to look in to devs - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo Q&A, Help & Troublesh

New root method found for 2014 moto x for at. Maybe it can be modified to work with droid turbo and get us wp off?!

Same method as mofo --- no wp-off

No bueno

At least its free tho

Someone could make a free version of mofo if they wanted. Personally, I wouldn't, purely out of respect.

Someone care to post the link for root on the x2 2014?
All I find is the lollipop root achieved but that is for an unlocked boot only.

I accidentally missed the fact that it was for the 2013 model(s), not the 2014, but here you go anyways.
EDIT: Could've sworn I added a link. Was super tired.

Getting Started on Moto X

Background: Just received my Moto X yesterday (Ebony back, black front, silver trim, SEXY!!!). I'm coming from a Droid 4 (tired of waiting on Droid 5) and I'm hoping you guys can help point me in the right direction by answering a few general questions for me. I've browsed through some of the forums already but since the Moto X has been out a little while now there is a LOT to wade through. So....
1. What is the current state of root on the Moto X? The last I saw there is not an easy root method for Moto X on KitKat. Is that still true?
2. On my D4 we did not really have options when it come to recoveries. It was safestrap, which is great, but that was it. I think I saw a safestrap for Moto X thread somewhere but are there other recoveries like TWRP or CWM available?
3. Probably a stupid questions but what is the difference between the "Moto X Android Development" forum and the "Moto X Original Android Development" forum?
Really love the XDA community and looking forward to getting started with my Moto X and finding ways to contribute. Thanks!
Read through the dev sections ....and all will be revealed.

OK, So I have read through a whole bunch of stuff now and I think I have root figured out. What I cannot seem to figure it out is the recovery situation. All the recoveries I see are for "Recovery Unlocked" or "Unlocked Bootloader" devices. I just have a plain old non-dev edition Moto X. Are there no compatible recoveries for regular non-dev edition Moto Xs?

You need an unlocked bootloader to use custom recoveries. But it isn't just dev edition that can be unlocked.
If you can't or don't want to unlock your bootloader (which voids your warranty), then you can't use a custom recovery.
You can still root....but no custom recovery. Which means no flashing from recovery...since stock doesn't flash.
Again....this is all in the dev section....and Google can help you find this stuff too.
I can't help further, I'm not an expert at the unlocked bootloader root stuff, as I unlocked my bootloader on day one.

You have to unlock the boot loader at Motorola's website. That way they know and your warranty is void. Lol

[Q] MultiROM for Moto X??

Hey guys I just want to know if it is possible to port multirom to the moto x???? My previous Motorola Atrix 2 had something similar called boot menu manager. So is it possible to get multirom????
You'd have to talk to the dev who created it. And he would surely need a moto x. For the N7 2013 he had a kick start campaign to collect funds for the N7 2013 purchase.
With half the moto x people being out of the picture, cause they have locked bootloader.....interest may be low. Also, there's only so much to flash on a moto x.....again, interest may be low cause of that.
I'll say this, if the people that want it put a moto x in his hands (through up front donations) its very possible he would make a version for the X.
This is all assuming its even technically possible.
---------- Post added at 04:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:08 PM ----------
Maybe @Tasssadar can weigh in?
It is on my N5....amazing. I have 4 ROMs currently on it.
Personally, I think a lot prefer stock....tho I guess with multirom they may try other things and keep stock as their main ROM.

Most of the devices that we use here are Bootloader locked, and would not allow flashing. As for the devs of the device, Motorola, I don't think they support the rooting scene as much as say someone like Oppo does.

Even if you safestrap you can't flash kernals(so you can't have anything like CM11, PAC, etc) only Stock based roms will work.
Stock roms:
Eclipse:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/development/rom-eclipse-moto-x-v3-2-2-4-4-2-blur-t2521509
Krypton:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/development/rom-krypton-v1-2-v1-3b1-6-9-2014-t2716657
I'm not sure safestrap will work if you're already on 4.4.2 or higher.
So..The thread needs to be awaken.
Since now we have unlocked bootloaders, can any dev please try porting Multirom Manager for our X? :fingers-crossed:

root question

so i have a xt1060 verizon moto x, and was gonna unlock the bootloader with sunshine, but how would i go about rooting it? i assume just installing superSU is not enough, also is there any restrictions i should know about? i sure have lots of phones i have rooted but Motorola has always been weird.

Sir..once the bootloader is unlocked, you'll need to install a custom recovery, TWRP or CWM..the stock recovery will be of no use..then with a custom recovery, you would gain Root by installing SuperSU from the custom recovery..no other restrictions that I can think of..
KEEP IN MIND..during the bootloader unlock process..your device storage will be erased, you will loose personal data..back up your data FIRST..

I use stock ROM's only..maybe Debloated..but mostly stock..don't have the time to fool with all the "crap" with a custom ROM..anyhow..if the ROM is for a XT1060..then I would certainly think you'd be OK..but as I said..stock for me only, I use to flash a lot of ROM's but was always battling some function that didn't function..and realized, I was not enjoying my devices..So I swore OFF custom ROM's..now I do mostly testing for Dev's and so on..
BTW..I own a XT1060 Moto X Developer Edition..but if your bootloader is unlocked, then your device would be likened to a DEV Edition, except for the logo and white back shell (back panel)..
I use TWRP only..If CWM is a must for you, then their site should have what you need, or here in XDA..BE SURE the custom recovery version is for the Moto X "ghost"..no other will install/work properly..the code name for Moto X is "ghost"..so any recovery MUST be developed for your " ghost" device..there are TWRP versions that is developed for the Moto X "ghost" and the "obake" Droid Maxx and Ultra..same version works with all three code names..DON'T KNOW about CWM..

People on 4.4.4 can't root with a locked boot loader is what it says. And that remains true. It doesn't say you can't unlock the boot loader though. No where does it say that. It's a thread with a collection of root methods....it's not about unlocking.
And cmw is also not mentioned, it may be in a thread that is linked to in the one stop shop, but not in the root thread itself.
Just wanted to be clear, as far as rooting goes....it's completely up to date. Read it a little more carefully. ?
If anything changes with root methods, it will be updated. A link to a Sunshine guide will be included as well, if there is one made. If there already is, I've missed it. A member said he was making one, but I haven't seen it yet.
And if anything that thread links to is out of date, the maintainer of those threads should be notified. ?

Yes. I know all about that.
But you said the one stop shop root thread is out dated.....and my friend, it is not.
Once your boot loader is unlocked, it's no different than any unlocked X...which is covered in the first section of the One Stop Shop.
How you unlock is irrelevant to the rooting thread I thought we were discussing.
Someone said he was making a Sunshine tutorial thread. If that ever happens, I will mention it in the Root thread. ?
Until then, it's not in there cause there is no clear, straight forward thread on it.
---------- Post added at 11:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:31 PM ----------
And again...all the One Stop Shop says about Rooting 4.4.4 is that you can't with a locked bootloader, and again...that is 100% accurate. ?

[Q] ANSWERED: Can't install play store apps (Pure Edition US)

QUESTION ANSWERED
I'm unable to install apps from the play store. Tapping install just freezes the play store. I can barely even browse the play store or do anything. Factory reset isn't helping and so far all I've done is unlock bootloader and fastboot boot pure2014sb.zip
What can I do?
Thanks
PS: Does anyone know which firmware on this page is for the US Pure Edition phone? https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/recovery-images
Try deleting your Google account and clearing the play services cache and data. Then log back in.
Thanks but I already tried that plus factory resetting. I think the pure2014 screwed it up. I need to find out which stock image is the correct one for the pure edition

Thanks for the warning. Owning a first gen model, I thought those firmware names looked a little familiar. Motorola's support is extremely lacking this year save for one nice person who talks to /r/MotoX on reddit. I wonder what happened to their support. So far 3 out of 3 support agents (1 chat, 2 phone call) have mistaken my questions about unlocked bootloaders for GSM locks, and had no idea what a bootloader is, until I explained it to them in severely layman's terms. For now I'm back on my first gen since I sadly need Verizon, and I also "need" the unlocked bootloader.
On the plus side before getting the RMA I did fix the issue. It was a bad root attempt. I skipped the pure2014 method and just used TWRP + flashing SuperSU as if it was a first gen. (second gen TWRP of course)
Thanks for all the help though.

Root is almost available for the DT but BL unlock is not guaranteed yet so no one can say if DT owners (like myself) will even be able to flash anything. Good question though.

Likely not. You can't just "swap ROMS" between a CDMA device and a GSM device.

I helped a few people with unlocked turbos out in rooting theirs. I can confirm that the Moto Maxx TWRP does boot, but in the long run it'll need a few recoveryfs tweaks.

Do you think a moto maxx ROM would work for the droid turbo once it's rooted and boot loader is unlocked

Probably not. Look at the top of my post (yes, this one) where I replied to matheus_sc.

Likely not. You can't just "swap ROMS" between a CDMA device and a GSM device.

Were those turbos XT1250s? Because nothing has been shown about someone working on BL unlock for the DT (XT1254)......yet. but ofc the XT1250s are already unlocked but not the XT1254s which is the model I believe he was asking about.

They were XT1254s. They were all prototype models and came unlocked from the factory.

Probably not this simple, but if we get root maybe the bootloader from one of these prototypes can be copied to a turbo using a dd command. Then we would all have unlocked bootloaders
Sent from my XT1254 using XDA Free mobile app

I have one of their bootloaders. It's not that simple. Good thought, though.

That would not work because it is not signed by moto. The ONLY things that matter are: 1) Signed vs unsigned packages and 2) bootloader exploits. Some BL exploits require root, most do now since they have gotten advanced. I miss the days of hardware level exploits and stuff. No more though. Root will likely be needed for a BL unlock and I would assume once root drops people will start working on one. Jcase has unlocked many motos and I would assume he will work on one when he has time (he is sick and very busy).
So root will not allow a BL unlock by itself. I am not even sure if this root exploit removes /system write protection. Some don't. We just have to wait and see.
I was busy last week, but if there will be BL unlock for Verizon Droid Turbo, then I'll make the CM12 / CM12.1 universal.

Hi,
I haven't brought the moto maxx/moto turbo here in India. But I'll buy it soon and will be happy to help you in cm12 development.
Regards

Since when isn't a Motorola Engineering Bootloader signed by Motorola?

But he already said he shows no interest in unlocking the turbo.
EDIT: Gah, double post didn't get merged.

If you dump the package yourself I would imagine it would no longer have the same check sum no? Jcase has said this about many devices and then out of nowhere released exploits. I am not asking him to, I am just saying he enjoys doing this and is really, really good at it. I can see him collaborating with the root author to develop a proper exploit if it does not already exist. Either way, this root probably won't be released for another few weeks, if ever.

No, if you dump the bootloader yourself, it will be signed with the exact same certificates as when it was compiled. As a quick demonstration, take a device (not the Turbo) and download a custom kernel for it.
Check (and make note of) the MD5 checksum. Then install it.
Boot it once or twice, messing around with it. Then dump it (via
Code:
dd if="/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/boot" of="/sdcard/boot.img"
) and compare the MD5 of your dumped image to that of the one that had not yet been installed. Zero difference.
