Heres the deal!!! Got my note 3 weeks ago and I`m really happy with it!
I noticed my S-PEN button is grey Phone was bought from the official vodafone shop in cyprus ! (its not locked to vodafone or has any vodafone logo on it)
A friend of mine recently came back from England and said to me "Look what I got from the UK man" and popped a Note out of his pocket! after we compared our beloved gadgets like geeks we are (battery life , quadrant tests , reboot speed duels etc. ) i noticed his S-PEN button WAS BLACK
So i was just wondering...
WHAT COLOR IS YOUR S-PEN BUTTON ???
s-pen colour
mines white same as the pen nib lol
My original Note bought in december (made in October) has black button and white tip.
The newer ones bought recently which are made in January 2012 have white tip and white button which I think is better as previously I will have to look at the s-pen to find the button.
Had Black Button.
Got One with White Button now. It presses better, its more easier to see the button and somehow, it feels a bit better overall.
Could be placebo.
It also can now be pulled out of note more easily. Its not a placebo ;-) it's actually a slightly different design (been covered previously)

That's mine. Photo taken with my iPhone 4S.
However, my black Galaxy Note (which I sold) had a black button and a slightly different design. It was a pain in the butt because I could never tell where the button was.
Black .
German Note, grey button...
O2 UK grey button white tip

Anyone know where to get one of the newer s pens? I have black with black button and it is a pain in my ass to take out and find the button

white tip
black barrel
grey button
I've got black pen with grey button.
White tip
Black Button
So all the S-Pens are BLACK
All the tips are WHITE
Some buttons are BLACK others GREY
Maybe the buttons have been changed for this exact reason. The black was hard to find

My S-pen is black, with a white tip and grey button. Dutch Note

Sorry for late reply.Mine is black pen with grey button.Phone made in vietnam if required
I compared it with my Previous Black Button with the new White Button (Swapped It ). Aside from it being more visible, the back where you use a nail to pull the S-Pen out is a bit deeper in the White.
This allows you to remove the S-Pen easier from the device.
Have black one.
But then bought the s pen with adapter and that one came in grey. Use the grey in my phone now.

This is really a disruptive device if you combine the price tag, hardware power and build quality as well as pure Android at its best. Very impressive demonstration of what Google is capable of, together with a partner like LG. And finally no Pentile Garbage screen!
Its the best Nexus Device ever. Never would have thought to say this about an LG Device.
Nicely written.
I find it interesting that cite these design factors as two of your main highlights on why the Nexus 4 is so special:
"It doesn’t have a curved display this time, but instead an interesting touch where the left and right display edges are wrapped around the corners. This makes touch gestures like scrolling horizontally feel much more natural, when you start at the edges."
and
"I really appreciate the multi color notification light which is positioned beneath the screen. There is an app called color flow which allows you to specify notification colors for each app seperately, this is a great feature to let you know what the context of the notification you just received is without even turning the screen on."
Good to know Samsung's Galaxy S3 design bodes well with LG and Nexus users..
Also funny that you deleted my comment on your blog and I had to post it here.

The S3 has rounded glass on the face? I think the large bezel(on the S3) ruins what the N4 has going for it.
The front camera is 1.3MP not 3.2MP as stated in the review.
Though the review was good, you may want to go back and check for I's that aren't capitalized and so forth. For me at least, it makes the review lose a small amount of credibility. Otherwise, I enjoyed it greatly.

Sorry, maybe I should have said "Samsung's" design, not the S3 then. Because they made the Galaxy Nexus
And the S3 has curved glass on the edges, giving the exact experience when gesturing from the side that he mentioned in the review. Not having it wrap around the entire side was smart IMO as it only makes the phone more fragile.
Point is, two main "wow" factors are actually Samsung designs that have been.. shall we say, "expanded" upon? (to be nice..)
But I don't dislike the Nexus, or his review, I just found it funny that those two points were written as if to insinuate that it was "new" design tech that improved the user experience over existing devices. Whereas I would have said something like, "similar to some of the key design features of the Galaxy line" to give credit where credit is due. I mean he even references the position of the power button which, again.. Samsung..
AW: My Nexus 4 Review after some Weeks of usage
Totally agree with the power button issue. But the multi color notification was already present on the Nexus One. And I don't know if probably some Windows Mobile Device from ages ago had this. So I'm always very careful when claiming that somebody did invent something.
I mentioned the two issues (display and notification light) not because I think its extremely innovative, but because the features are there and it makes sense to mention them.

If anyone wants to claim the idea of the multicolor LED, look toward RIM. The original Blackberry Perl had a multicolor LED behind the trackball. Samsung was still making toy phones back then.
OK I am not saying that Samsung "invented" these things lol
Just that they already have them present in a flagship Android phone that is still on the market right now, and is the most popular Android phone ever, that's all I am saying..
But yes, perhaps RIM had something original and cool back in the day.. they are fighting for their life right now though

Didn't know that. Now let's see how good BB10 is. I have a playbook and I'm waiting for the update...
I have in the past used Note 1 then upgraded to Galazy S4 and now Note 9. When I tried all these devices in store before buying. Their screens appeared to be excellent. But once I bought them and used them for a few days I slowly started to see issues with screens. The note 1 I had slowly developed this redness on right edge of the phone over time visible only on grey background under low brightness. I got it replaced 3 times but then gave up. After that when I switched to S4 it had this reddish top and greenish bottom visible only on low brightness and white or light grey background. I got it replaced once and again got a similar screen with the same issue plus overall slightly yellowish tint on the whole screen. So once again I gave up and was using the same device from past 5.8 years. Now when I tried the Note 9 in stores i just loved the screen and ordered it. Now after using it for a few days I find on light backgrounds that the screen is slightly brighter at the bottom than the top. In fact it's like it's whiter at the bottom than at the top. I was thinking are there amoled screens which have uniform whiteness/brightness across the screen. In all other aspects the screen is perfect to me but this issue once I know it's there is somewhat annoying to me. How is your screen ?

dont think they had oled on the note 1 or s4 yet. but i can assure you that since Samsung made OLED, these screens are the best out there. and to tell you the truth, any 2018 screen would trump what you may have experienced in the past.

I've had a SGSII, a Note 4 and I'm currently using a Note 8. All of SAMOLED displays have been really good with no issue as you have described.

You do know that Sony is failing in the smartphone department right? They currently in the same situation as LG. Unfortunately, the screen won't save their smartphone division.
Edit: Playstation is where Sony gets their money these days. Sad to see.
"A growing thorn in Sony’s side is its mobile handset business which counts its revenue, primarily from its Xperia line of handsets under the Mobile Communications segment. Sales of $6.88 billion were down 5% from the previous year and the group posted a loss of $255 million.
The mobile communications group guided to a further 12% drop in sales for fiscal 2018 and a projected loss of $138 million. The group does see some light at the end of the tunnel – 5G wireless technology."
They gave been losing money year over year, quarter over quarter man. Their lack of innovation is dragging them down like LG.
By the way, last edit. Sony didn't make that OLED screen. LG Display did.
Displaymate rated the Note 9 as having the best display ever on a mobile phone. Just as they did for the S9, and Note 9 before that. Pretty much every new top of the line Samsung device trumps the best there was before it.... and the best there was has pretty much always been on a Samsung device. Sammy makes the best displays.
In any case, you can find other very good displays on other phones that look pretty much as good, but when a place like Displaymate puts a "best ever" sticker on a device's display, it is for a reason. Note 9 display is not much different than the Note 8 display for instance, but it is enough of an improvement to warrant the top billing from Displaymate.

Actually,it appears to be nothing more than a marketing company hired by Sony:
https://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/legal/testresults/xperia-xz3/
https://www.strategyanalytics.com/
https://www.bloomberg.com/research/stocks/private/snapshot.asp?privcapId=1051783
All companies on this level tend to use such garbage "research" for marketing, all claims like this should come with an e-coupon code for a pinch pound of salt.
What's worse is peeps getting their panties in a wad, feeling the need to either rationalize their choice in phones, trolling those that have "x" phone,& the fanboi behavior that's fueled by the fluff articles.
The Note 9 is a nice phone, got one myself.
Is it the absolute best out there? In the eye of the beholder & nothing more.
Others choosing something else is equally fine, one would be hard-pressed to actually find a truly terrible phone w/o intentionally seeking one out.
Note 9 earpiece smudges won't go away
Hey I guys I bought the note9 from 6 days ago. One day I was just rubbing the top bezel ( the space that has selfie camera, iris, led, ect) suddenly I saw 2 smudges, one above the earipeice, one under. I kept rubbing it and it doesn't go away. I believe that maybe when I was rubbing my hands were sweating so water entered beneath the glass. Here's a picture I posted here so maybe you'll get what I mean. If anyone has this issues or fixed please share it here. If the attachment is not working please say.
Thanks

I opened Samsung browser with no tabs open white screen. Slightly yellow or warm color. Looks pretty even but if I were to be extremely critical top side is a more darker maybe.
The white is definitely not like the note 8 white . Using amoled photo with slight blue light setting.

My Note 9 has an even white color across the whole screen. It also has a bit truer whites than my Note 8. Part of that may be that my Note 8 is now a year old, but overall I believe Samsung tuned the contrast down a bit on the Note 9 from the Note 8. Just to be clear, I am using the exact same display settings on both phones.... so I am getting an accurate comparison of the Note 9 vs Note 8. There is very little difference, you'd have to literally be looking at them side by side to notice the slight difference.

Compare home screen icons on the note 8 and note 9. Let me know what difference you see. I see the note 9 not being as sharp. But then on the same token , the note 9 like I said earlier is more natural and appeasing to the eyes.

This only applies to making the SNotes black instead of the signature color - the offscreen note color is still only two options - White on black screen or Signature color on black screen.

Funny cos I actually find the brown on black quite nice especially when you then save the off screen memo it saves in brown, a colour I cant actually find on the color palet so I easily differentiate which part of the memo I took "off screen" vs the part I wrote while unlocked!
Hey, how to write notes on black background in the app? I mean in the same way as in turned screen off. I think white pen on black background looks better than normal way, black pen on white paper.
Download "Snotes" the original note program from earlier models of the Samsung Note series. It let's you pick background color and what not. A lot of people prefer it to Samsung Notes , so give it a try.
