I can get my upgrade for a new sgs2 for 199$ or get a refurbished one for a penny. I would like a brand new one but would like to save the money too? What would you do? How long would you think til it goes down in price? I need opinions please.

I would avoid refurbished. It will be 199 till the new flagship phone is launched. Probably another Samsung device.

Look around at other retailers, radio shack, best buy, newegg, etc. They can seta let price than att.
Would I still have a warranty? I saw target has it for 99.

Well, def have Samsung warranty. I would think the initial 90 warranty would be from the retailer where you bought it. I think. Call them up and see. What's the worst that happens, you pay $199?
I generally have a lot of faith in factory refurbished products. Generally, they have been used minimally. They were returned due to a defect, or simply because someone wanted something else.
Typically, they will be completed tested by the factory. If there are any defects that caused the return, they will be addressed . I generally look for refurbished and have always had extremely good luck in doing so. My current Captivate is refurbished. I bought it for $18.00. It is the greatest phone I have ever owned and the warranty is intact as if you bought a brand new phone.
Refurbished all the way!
I'd like to think refurbished would be like new but I too have a refurbished captivate after bricking my new old one. Everything runs fine but the usb door doesn't stay closed & is loose and the vibration doesn't feel/sound right like my girlfriend's new one. This is why I'm asking, just trying to weigh out my decision. I'm almost content enough to keep my cappy for a while but I'd really like to see how much better it is & why waste a perfectly good upgrade.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
From my experience buying new or factory refurbished is a lottery. You can get a brand new one and have issues on it as well as a refurbished and have a issues. But I can't say refurbished = more chance for issues. But thats just my 2 cents. I've had 2 captivates (new and refurb) and had no issues what so ever (except new had the sleep death).
I have a refurbished Cappy from ATT that has 0 issues (knock on wood). Got it for $10 last year.
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
you get ATT warranty, even if u buy it from other retailers. I got my cappy from Amazonwireless.com last year and got replaced 4 times by ATT...
My wife and i both got refurb captivates about a year ago for free, with our upgrade. My phone has had no problems and I've flashed the crap out of it. Hers Has been returned once for the shutdown problem, but the problem showed back up after the w warranty (90 days) expired. Just putting it out there, so you know.
I think I'm gonna get one at target. After I figure out what is the easiest way to root it are there any precautions I need to take using tibu to restore my apps? I know don't do system settings but can I do my contacts & bookmarks?

I think I'm on this bandwagon, too. After seeing the battery and signal issues with the Vexus, I have no intention of jumping to Verizon. By the time the Galaxy Nexus is available on AT&T, Samsung will probably have announced the SGS3 (looks like MWC this February). If it's not too long a wait, I'll hold out for it.
Will I be able to transfer all the stuff I need to the sgs2 using tibu without any problems?

I would assume so. But like always only user apps and no data to be sure.

Should be fine. The one problem that seems to pop up every once in a while is that after you transfer the apps to your new phone, you may notice that all the market links are busted. TiBu can repair them, but they still might not appear to work.
They are actually fixed, but need a little help to take effect. If the market links are still broken after you try to restore them in TiBu, just clear your Market data (settings/applications/manage applications/market and click the clear data button) and reboot the phone. The market links should be back to normal.
I don't know if anyone else has experienced what I went through the past few days.
Every time I installed Wanam exposed my phone started acting crazy. A fc here and there at first. Then after messing with the settings everything including tw force closed. I had to reset my phone 3 times after installing wanam 3 times.
After resetting the third time I downloaded wanam again (everyone trying different settings). This time I didn't change any settings. I didn't get a chance to. As soon as it installed everything force closed.
After resetting I realized that I didn't have su and I was on 4.3.... This is right after I paid for su pro to block such an attempt.
I'm fed up with Samsung and att. If I wanted a phone I couldn't customize I would have got an icrap. I'll be looking to get rid of this phone and the crappy gear.
Never thought I'd see the day I gave up on Samsung...m sucha sad day
I don't know if this is a wanam issue or xposed, but I woke up the other day and my phone was maxed out on space. When I checked the space, xposed was using 21G of space for no apparent reason. I think xposed and wanam are more trouble than they are worth.

OP, is your phone properly rooted and generally known to be in a good state before you're getting started here?
Xposed and Wanam worked flawlessly for me. I rooted MI9 with RDLV, and almost immediately thereafter, I installed Xposed and Wanam. Have had zero problems with either, and very few with the phone in general.
No issues for me. Next best thing to Custom Rom for now. I just Greenify them until I need them

Well I gave up with the att note 3 and just went out and bought a tmobile note 3.
So now I am trying to sell my note 3 and maybe my gear as well.
I am hoping that maybe there will be a way to install custom roms within the next 15 days so that I can bring it back and get my money.
So I'll stalk this forum for 2 weeks after that fair well guys.
As for Samsung and ATT its pretty sad that they are moving towards locking down the system. I feel that people buy the galaxy line of phones because we can customize them to our liking. Sad day!

First the locked bootloader, next they make us the last among the s5's to get lollipop by a long shot. Definitely will be cautious when I upgrade and it will likely be to another carrier.
In hindsight, I should have learned my lesson with the Optimus G. Another great phone they ruined

This really is nothing new..my job has AT&T and the S3 was months behind all the other carriers in the 4.x updates. The only time they were close was that big Samsung Christmas rush to make all phones Gear compatible...other than that OTAs are far and few between.

not sure if it can ruin a phone with awesome hardware out of the gate... if you are basing it solely on not receiving updates quickly then sure..
the locked bl is a pain but any phone person knows its best to wait and see if a device gets unlocked before purchasing it or its in turn partly your fault as well. You cant blame a carrier for making their devices to use on their network more secure for them.
i do agree it sucks, but its the way the cookie crumbles.. i am moving on from verizon s5 to another device that will b unlocked but its bcuz i like unlocked bl not bcuz of verizon as i cant blame them

Bootloader locked is fine, but we dont even have lollipop yet when all others do, which isnt a samsung issue, its directly an att issue. To me thats crap! All over the world its been out and we dont have a date announced yet.......never getting att again for sure. 5.1 is even out today lmao
We might get 5.1 on att somt me after 6.0 comes out

I've been through the variants of 5.x on my Nexus 7 and it's not been worth it. Maybe 5.1 will play out, too early to tell. I'd despise wasting the hardware resources of the GS5 to make up for bugs, just to pretty up the UI. I'd much rather have a stable base for something that I rely upon for *functionality* that while not life threatening is surely life inconveniencing when it's not working properly.
What disappoints me so much is that I had an s2 as well as an s3 on att and the dev communities there were amazing. I guess att locked the bl so that idiots don't brick the phone but they really killed off something great.

I'm with Verizon and wish I never would've taken the 5.0 update. Phone is now slower, battery doesn't last, laggy, constant "contacts stopped working" message.
Also, once you update you are basically stuck with the issues.

My experience with the Galaxy S5 on ATT has led me to vow not to get stuck in this position again. I got it on black friday for 9 cents on black friday on a contract, but never again. Nexus 6 or HTC in the future, I want a wide variety of ROMS to choose from and fast updates!

Cricket Wireless is even worse, though - they have no VoLTE/"HD voice", no Wi-Fi calling and no plans to enable these features on their network in any city any time soon.
Looks like I'm going to have to send my S5 in for replacement through at&t (microphone died). Can anyone who's recently gotten a warranty replacement chime in with what software they're currently shipping? I assume it'll be 5.0/OC4 but have my fingers crossed.

I just had a replacement myself; had to downgrade back to NE4 to get root, then do a annoying process update to get back to 5.0 with root. I'm trying to make partition images so I can make an Odin flashable image of a rooted 5.0, but still trying to identify the partition scheme it uses.
Just received my replacement phone and 5.0 is pre-installed. Hope there are some devs that are working on root but not holding my breath at this point.
Can anyone provide a point-by-point difference between the two other than "SM-N910T3 is just better"?
I've seen the question asked a few times in previous threads, reddit but I have not seen anything conclusive.
Also it seems the initial question becomes a quick after thought because it quickly delves into rooting questions, which I do not care about at this point.
I get that SM-N910T3 has 5.1.1. but what else? Heck even if its a best guess I'd love to hear it here.
For now this is what I got from Reddit:
pomidorable 2 points 14 days ago said:
Samsung likely changed suppliers for one or more of the key components (likely a cost reduction measure for a phone that's about to go out of production in a few months), and as such the ROM had to be altered to support it.

What was wrong with it that Samsung had to fix it? How did you get a newer phone and then your old phone back?
I ask because mine is starting throw fits like a stubborn mule and its really pissing me off. If it doesn't just lock up and freeze, its bt connections or dropped calls.
So the n910t3 is the developers edition?

Learned something new.. I was just had a long text chat with samsung suppoprt... it looks like the n910t3 may be the developer edition? they checked a few IMEI numbers / serial numbers and confirmed my device was developer edition which may explain the model number difference and may explain the 5.1.1 while n910t is left at 5.0.1 for now. Samsung also confirmed that Tmo has 5.1.1 and it's up to them to decide when / if to deploy it.

That's what Samsung told me over chat too. I have the chat saved. The rep also said I could go into a store and specifically request one (though I don't think that's right). I wonder why they're selling them? Possibly a large shipment was ordered in error? I wonder what the difference is aside from having 5.1.1. I know on the ROM development side of things, everything is mostly compatible.
I had that suspicion though too; I asked if it was an internal developer edition meant for testing updates before they're released to the public, and the Samsung rep reassured me that's exactly what it was. I wonder why they're for sale though.

My phone completely died. Turn around was about a week and a day.
Ok so about the SM-N910T3 compared to my previous 910T and what I've accidentally...
Ok so a few things I've accidentally noticed about my T3.
First off, Had to get my Note 4 replaced by T-mobile 2 days ago, they said it was on backorder, so I get a brand new Note 4 direct from Samsung and then I realized the registration screens looked slightly different, so I went to the settings menu, I'm like "Something doesn't feel right" so then I found it, 5.1.1 which I tried updating my 910T 3 days ago, and wouldn't go beyond 5.0.1 THEN found out it was the N910T3 that i Had just gotten.
After careful review on my old NOTE 4 to still send back, the glass on the Note 4 curves down INTO the walls around the edge of the phone. about 0.5mm depth, on the SM-N910T3 it doesn't. It curves down, but almost PERFECTLY LEVEL to the edge walls., ALSO haven't gotten to try the GPS thing yet, but mine worked FAIRLY well always anyways.
The OTHER major thing I've noticed, and this is WITHOUT the battery, since a charged battery weighs slightly more than an uncharged one.
119g for the SM-N910T vs 123g for the SM-N910T3 == 4grams difference in weight? S-pen is the same, both with a sim card and microSD card, no battery. Hardware upgrade?
I said screw it in the end and ponied up to buy a new one. I swear to gawd every employee looked at me crossed eyed when I told them I didn't want to buy the Note 5.
I must have gotten the last normal note 4 then through warranty because that is what they sent me. I called Tmobile and tried to get it resolved but they told me to contact Samsung (I did) and they told me they were just going to fix my phone and I'd be without one for about 10 days.
As for differences I did notice the extra option at boot up too. My GPS seems to lock a lot faster. I will have to keep playing with it though to verify as I haven't had much time to go through it yet but I will say the Samsung Smart Switch was very nifty in getting my settings transferred over.
