pls help me to s-off - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I Just got a dual sim varient of htc-m7 802d, indian version. with hboot 2.49.000 , i have unlocked it using htc dev, rooted it, have latest twrp, and busybox installed via recovery. and i am on stock 4.4.3 kernel and rom.
i tried to s-off using fire water , using htc tool 3.2 ( downloaded firewater binary , and pushed it to temp, and then nothing happend after executing) .
i have read a lot of topic here and there, but little development happend for this device so far. so i cant get hold of few things about this device.
1) since i am unlocked, can i flash a insecure kernal , to remove write protecton on system?
2) is there any other method through which i can remove write protection for ever, pls consider that, i can copy anything from /into system from recovery, via aroma file manager or by creating a zip , so.. if any file modification can do the trick , pls give me reference.
3) can i s-off 2.49 hboot via firewater, coz i seen it working on one max forums. and sunsine payment is not my option here. ( considering if i can flash a kernel thats is not firewater proof)
and my plans/needs are..
1) flash a kernel which is not firewater proof ( but which one according to my device specs) and s-off.
2) i want to flash cyanogen/gpe/or even stock 5.0.2 by making my phone super cid model.
so any one who has possibly any ideas, knowledge, expeince in doing such things pls help me. i need possible reference links . since i am new to this phone( got this yesterday only) . pls help me.

Firewater is discontinued.
If you want s-off you must pay 25$ http://theroot.ninja/
The same devs as for Firewater but now is 25$

do tell if you get something. I'm in the same boat as you and worse part is that it's my friend's phone and I cannot restore it to stock due to missing latest RUU.

[Q] Can upgrade to 4.4.3 having 4.4.2 Sense 6 S-ON Boot Unlocked

Hi everyone!
I unlocked using HTCDEV my One (M7-UL , Europe version) with Hboot 1.57 and 4.4.2 with S-ON. After rooting and putting a custom recovery, I received an OTA update to upgrade to 4.4.3.
My question is, Can I upgrade as it or my device will brick ("Furthermore, although you will still be able to receive updates to your device via FOTA (“firmware over the air”), we do not guarantee that updating your device via FOTA will not render your device unusable")? I have read from HTC that if you upgrade an OTA being unlocked, it may fail...
Then:
1) May I relock boot and put a stock recovery in order to upgrade? If so, How does it work?
2) Or maybe I can run Sunshine in my device (i tested and it seems to work, I stopped in paypal step) to get S-OFF and then obtain this RUU and flash it?
Thx in advance!
To receive the ota you need to put the stock recovery back and copy over some of the apps that get deleted when you unlock the bootloader. It's a lot of stuffing around to be honest. Why not just install a custom Rom that uses 4.4.3. They are better than stock roms anyways
But I'm actually receiving this OTA; I'm hesitating to press install button being unlocked...
Tell me examples of these ROMS. Are they 100% compatible with all HTC ONE stock staff, (infrared , beats audio...)?.
Thx
It will let you download an ota if you are on a stock Rom. But if you have a custom recovery or you haven't re added the apps that were deleted when you unlocked it won't install. It won't brick your phone or anything. It just won't install. Maximums and Android revolution are two off the top of my head. Both work fine. Why don't you just experiment a little. Back up your current Rom and try a few others. If you don't like them u can always restore the backup
Thx. I'll try.
One more question, do you recommend me to run Sunshine in 4.4.2 stock rom to gain S-OFF before installing MaximusHD ROM?
and how much is secure doing S-OFF with this tool?
Sunshine does work best on stock roms. It's quick and easy and does compatibility tests to make sure it Will work on your phone. It does cost $25 but we'll worth it if you ask me
Sunshined Done!
Now I'm going to installing MaximusHD, and possible later, GPE (that requires being S-OFF first).
Any good guide explaining GPE<->SENSE (stock or custom)?
Thx

[Q] How do I downgrade Android?

Mod Edit: Added questions from 2 other threads.
1. I have Android 4.4.4 On my Sprint HTC One M8 and my wifi is broke because I didn't update the firmware. My device will not take the firewater method to S-OFF and I am not going to spend 25$ on Sunshine. I was wondering If i could update my firmware while still S-ON or If someone could tell me how to Get my device back to Android 4.4.2 so my wifi works again. I have no stock backup because I had them all saved on my computer which decided to take a dump and stop working. CID is SPCS_001. I would be happy to just get a complete stock Recovery and not worry about the whole root process but I can not find one to Flash. I have TWRP Installed and was hoping someone could help me find a recovery that will take me back to 4.4.2 Please, All Help is GREATLY appreciated.
2. I have tried using Firewater to S-OFF my Sprint HTC One M8, I get all the way down but Before it finishes it reads an error saying something about the golden rule never use OTA or something and it goes on to Say device has been patched by HTC. What can I do to fix this?
3. I am stuck. I am searching for a Sprint Branded HTC One M8 Recovery I can download and flash through TWRP. I get an error every time i try firewater to get s-off so i am stuck s-on. I was thinking i could just download a recovery and flash it thorough twrp back to Android 4.4.2 Please help i can't use 4.4.4. because i can't update my firmware.

Hi Tim,
The only way to downgrade is if you are s-off.
You can update your firmware while s-on...you have to re-lock your bootloader.
Please post all your questions in THIS thread as I'm going to close the others.
Try not to open multiple threads in the future.
Thanks for understanding,

Will waterfire work on my phone??? My phone keeps sending me a notification to update and I don't want to see or accidentally update it and brick it because I am already rooted. I just wanted to flash a new Rom (CM11 to be exact).

[Q] S-off with rooted HTC One M7 - HBOOT 1.57 S-on

Hello!
I've decided I want to turn my HTC One (International version) into a Google Play edition. I've watched a bunch of videos, and went for it. Everything went fine until the step where I should get S-off. I've tried quite a few tools, but just get an error that my version is not going to get S-off.
I have seen people been able to work around using CM11, but from what I've understood, you need S-off to write anything to /boot, which is where I presume CM11 would be flashed. So, am I missing anything important? Is there a workaround if my phone has HBOOT 1.57, and not S-off already? I hope someone can help me!
TL;DR: My phone is unlocked and rooted, but I can't get S-off using any of the most popular tools. My HBOOT is version 1.57.
I hope someone smarter than me is able to help me! If you need more information, please leave a reply and I'll get all the information I'm able to.
In advance, thanks!
Kcdyb
No, you can flash cm11 with s-on. You have to have a custom recovery with which to do it, though. I don't know which tutorial you're using, but it should have a section where you flash the recovery after the bootloader is unlocked. If your bootloader is still locked, then... Are you rooted?
I'm pretty new to HTC, I just came off of samsung, and they seem straightforward and simple by comparison, but with s-off, it seems like there's more room for customization with HTC phones...
Anyway, I found that TWRP won't flash cm11, but Philz_touch will. If you're rooted, grab rashr off the play store and you can flash both of these recoveries right from your phone. I'd go with TWRP 2.6.3.0, though, since the latest didn't like my backups.
Then once those are installed, you boot into bootloader and volume down to Recovery and it'll pop up in a few seconds where you can take backups (<--DO THIS!) and flash new roms and kernels and such.

Have you tried Sunshine S-OFF, it will cost $25 but it is worth it. Once you get S-OFF you can change your CID & MID then flash the GPe RUU or ROM.
Thanks a lot for your replies!
I have actively tried figuring this out alongside reading for my exam today, and recently found and interesting option to work around S-on. My total goal is getting GPE Lollipop on my HTC, and I just now found a thread discussing using a backup from OPs phone. According to many users in the thread, they have been able to recover this backup and successfully run Lollipop with S-on. I did consider buying Sunshine, but due to finding the backup-option, I wanna try the free alternatives first. My goal is like I said running GPE, and I will most likely not install other roms on my phone.
My phone has an unlocked bootloader, custom recovery CWM v6.0.4.8, and my phone is rooted with SuperSU v2.37 at the moment. This might change some since I'm trying to recover a specific backup as my current tactic.
Your replies have definitely added to my understanding of the workarounds, and are much appreciated. If the backup-method don't work, I will try your methods!
PS: I posted in the backup-thread asking some questions. I'm posting my link here to string them both together in case someone else looks for an solution to the same problem I had.

[Q] which Firmware should be Flashed on Sprint 831 C ? Confused !!

Dear All,
Pl. somebody may guide me as to which Firmware shall be the correct one, to Flash with the details of my Handset as below:-
1) Sprint 831 C - M8_WHL PVT SHIP - S- OFF,
2) CID - 11111111
3) HBOOT - 3.16.0.0000
4) Radio : 1.00.20.0120.
Further, Since the device came to me in the S-OFF and SuperSU installed on it (Rooted), I managed to install twrp-2.7.0.2-m8.img, for which now I have backed up my complete system, and have nandroid backup for it.
Now, I am curious to install other custom rom as well, my earlier readings / understandings here & after googleling, warns me to do it untill I have the Firm ware updated.
My queries,
1) Should I download the RUU 1.5 GB 1) http://www.pocketables.com/2015/02/sprint-htc-one-m8-lollipop-via-otaruu.html or form here http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8-sprint/news/ and follow the instructions thereby.
2) May I at the liberty to install the Android Revolution HD ROM on HTC One M8 , available here : http://www.droidviews.com/install-android-revolution-hd-rom-on-htc-one-m8/
3) Will I loose, my S-OFF, Sim Unlock in doing above mentioned acts.
The snapshot of my device in bootloader mode is attached for your quick guidance.
Pl. help understand the above. Thank you all in advance.
Best Regards
Karan.
You can use the HK firmware from HTC USA website also. In fact I urge you to do this if you wish to use any Lollipop based ROM else you may face WiFi issues etc. It won't affect your S-off or anything. You can unlock your Bootloader also, in fact you should in my opinion.
I am using my 831c with ViperOneM8 4.3.0 which is reasonably stable to use as a daily driver.
I am using this with Reliance CDMA; no issues to report. You can find my guide to get rid of the annoying activation nag pop up. I'm traveling otherwise I'd link it here.
Edit: For CDMA in India or to get rid of activation pop-up, see here: http://www.rimweb.in/forums/topic/3...-on-htc-one-m8-hk-non-hk-edition-from-sprint/

Dear Sir,
First of all thank you so much for addressing so soon !! I appreciate that though travelling you took the courtesy for it.
Well, my device is GSM its not CDMA, Sir, my query is related to Firmware, can I use this file : 0P6BIMG_Sprint_HTC_One_M8_4.25.651.14_RUU.zip - hooked here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2729173, if your answer is assertive I would go ahead with flashing in SD CARD, hope its not in contradiction with my HBOOT Version. Regarding unlocking Bootloader , Sir its already unlocked, do I need to do it again ?
Moreover, I would love to install the rom ViperOneM8 4.3.0, suggested by you as well.
Thank You once again.

Hi Karan,
Your Bootloader isn't UNLOCKED. Your device is S-OFF but at least your Bootloader screenshot shows that your bootloader is still LOCKED. Could be an HBOOT trick, I don't know.
Well, you may be using your device as GSM only but be assured that it can also be used for CDMA if you want (INR 824 for unlimited calling, text and 3G is an amazing deal with Reliance CDMA.. LOL) but let's get back to your question.
I'd recommend flashing either of the two firmware files listed below. Since your phone has a SuperCID, you can even convert it to the Harman Kardon Edition (I don't know how much better/ worse it is honestly):
1. Harman Kardon Edition ROM: http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8-harman-kardon-edition-sprint/news/
2. Non-Harman Kardon Edition ROM: http://www.htc.com/us/support/htc-one-m8-sprint/news/
They have the same fixes, etc., as far as I know. The Harman ROM has some audio enhancements that you may or may not need.
And yes, finally to answer your primary question, you can use the firmware that you have mentioned as well, I think it corresponds to the no. 2 link that I have posted.
You will need to remove some files to get rid of the activation nagger though. It keeps popping up "Hands Free Activation" and that is very annoying!
Good luck!

Hello sir,
Now, today I tried couple of things as below: -
As advised by you, firstly I attempted to unlock the Bootloader by using the Hasoon's AIO 2014 Toolkit, I booted in fastboot USB, even successfully got the Token Identifier submitted on HTC Dev however when tried to submit the bin file the command prompt window say error no device found. ( Pl. guide as what is going wrong , this process was repeated twice by me - NO Success found) .
Secondly, downloaded one of the files we discussed yesterday, the files i.e 0P6BIMG_Sprint_HTC_One_M8_4.25.651.14_RUU.zip, renamed to 0P6BIMG, kept in SD card (8 GB / EXFAT formatted), to which the device started scanning as soon as I attempted to enter the Bootloader mode (i.e Vol Dn + Pw), while scanning it says No Image / Wrong Image/ ( Pain full).
Finally, I also had a downloaded file of (Android_Revolution_HD-One_M8_41.0_866186), stated to be a Kitkat 4.4.2 rom, now assuming that I have already unlocked bootloader, I performed Install after wipe / Delvick Cache/Data/System, it went through whole installing however after coming on 100/- without my giving the command of reboot the device get's power offed. Thenafter performing the Vol Dn +Pw also it didn't responded , then tried Vol UP+Pw, which gave me the option to into recovery mode (TWRP ver 2.7.0.2) where I had the Backedup file, which was restored and that is how I saved my life.
Now, what is really going wrong not able to sum it up, even trying to unlock BLDR, does'nt help, request you intervention / help Sir.

You have TWRP it means your bootloader is already unlocked. You can go ahead and flash viper rom. even if you relocked because you have s-off you can flash anything.
To flash the zip, you can try directly from cmd by going to bootloader and type:
1 - "fastboot oem rebootRUU"
2 - "fastboot flash zip pathto.....zip"
This will format the internal memory 25GB and remove TWRP and return everything to stock.(if its the 1.5GB zip) You will not lose s-off.
Note: ARHD may not work on Sprint M8
Dear Sir,
Thanks for replying. Just to share I attempted to update the H/K 1.5 GB RUU stock file and got the success, however lost my SuperSU app, also root has gone as tried by installing rootchecker, which didn't gave the positive result.
Now my query is, that will I have to follow all the process of unlockng the btldr from HTC Dev, installing TWRP latest one, will I loose the S-off , Sim unlock etc... I am looking to install a ROM which has the Stock FM app in it, may I request you to suggest if any that shall work flawlessly in India.

If you install any custom sense ROM like viper or badboy, it will be rooted.
As for stock FM, it should be included in custom sense ROMs.
You will not lose simlock or soff by doing anything mentioned.
However some people(including me) get simlocked randomly, if it happens to you, you can do twrp backup, follow instructions to simunlock then restore backup again no matter what rom you were using.

HTC one m7 hboot 1.61

Hello,
this is just to be sure.
My m7 is out of warranty so I want to try a different ROM.
Either viperone or revolution hd. (unless you guys suggest another one?)
I was reading that I need root to install a rom? is this correct?
also, to root i need to s-off? no? "you will not be able to root or flash a custom ROM unless your turn S-Off" - as in here.
I was trying to S-off with Sunshine from the root ninja... the phone PASSED the first test, but the second was an attemp to Temproot.. which it failed...
Am i doing anything wrong here? shouldn't the phone first be s-off to be able to be rooted?
Thank you!

You don't need root to install a custom rom, only an unlocked bootloader (+ a custom recovery to flash the rom). You'll often find false statements like this here and there simply because they're some ppl not really understanding the difference between Root/Unlocked bootloader/S-Off bootloader. And also because you're trying to get information from really outdated page like the one you've linked
also, to root i need to s-off?

You need root to use Sunshine but again you don't need S-OFF neither ROOT to flash a custom rom and BTW most custom roms are pre-rooted.
1-Unlock your bootloader
2-Flash the latest TWRP recovery
3-Flash your rom
What root does: Give your Super User access in the ROM
What an unlocked bootloader does: Disables signature verification and write protection for /recovery, /system /radio, /boot partitions so you can flash custom recovery, custom rom, radio, custom kernel.
What S-OFF does: Disables signature verification and write protection to all 37 partitions, gives you endless possibilities including turning your phone into a really expensive paper weight if you don't know what you're doing.
regrettably your answer doesn't help...unlock bootloader, unlock bootloader.....makes an incorrect assumption that the oem unlock is available.
It seems from 1.61 they have removed this option. at least it appears that Vodafone has joined Verizon in this case, and i assume for the others too.
i previously rebranded and s-off and foolishly restored to factory branding/etc and now decided i need to use the phone and am stuck with crap.
moral of the story.....never get one of these $1 phone deals and end up w
