I'm in the market for a motoG and would like to be able to use dt2w. I understand from other threads that only the inx v0 displays are compatible with this function, but AFAIK to discover the display type on any particular phone it needs to be rooted - not something most sellers would be happy for me to do before purchase!
If you have an inx v0 display (i.e. it's working with dt2w on one of the various kernels that supports it) please post where and when purchased... this might serve as a useful guide for others in the same position :good:
If you are rooted, you can discover the display type by typing the following into emulator:
su
cat /proc/cmdline
The final line will read "mdss_dsi_mot_inx_720p_video_v0" if you have a inx v0 display.
With an XT1064 purchased retail in the US, rooted, Lollipop 5.0.2, Titan Prime Rom, dt2w isn't even available in Play. Other similar apps I've tried don't seem to work with display off.

Users are reporting dt2w working fine with AK kernel But depends on the display type you have...
DT2W is fully working only with AK kernel for now and only if you have inx_v0 dispay

OK, did what I should have at first and checked in terminal emulator. My XT1064 which was purchased at Sears and actually labeled as Moto G EXT gave me this for a display. "mdss_dsi_mot_inx_720p_video_v0"

I believe I purchased it in December 2014. I seem to recall another thread where people were talking about the later 1068's having a yellowish and inferior display.

I guess I'll try and find someone with an older model in the UK who wants to sell/upgrade... preferably someone already rooted and knows their display type

That would probably be right. It would have been at the first of the month or even late November when I picked mine up. With the 4G model coming out, you might get lucky.

Maybe. Have put out some feelers in the Q&A section of the Moto G (2015) to establish what panel it uses. Sadly my hunch is that it'll be using the jdi displays since production lines are shifting from the later 2014 models. But if it is in fact an inx_v0, I'll probably pull the trigger on the Chinese XT1079 from etotalk. It seems to support all the right bands and has a (very slightly) larger battery - although I couldn't really give a toss about 4G
That's unless anyone reading has a inx_v0 display XT1068 they want to sell

Just bought an Indian 16gb XT1068 originally bought in November. Got home and rooted to to check display, unfortunately it's a jdi_v0 Guess it's going on fleabay...
Well My XT1068 bought in India through its official online retailer didnt have Complactible Display though
Apparently, it's going to be the luck of the draw on whether you get the right display. I wonder if there were certain manufacturing facilities using the cheap display and the cheap displays got mixed at random into the system. You need a much larger response from different areas to get some type of pattern.

Hi.
I am looking for a high quality case for my Razr I but I cannot find any.
Do you know a brand with one?
As this is similar (if not the same) as the Razr M, is there any Razr M cases about which will do the job for you.
**note** Not really read up on excat specs of the two but from what gather there basically same apart from processor, and the Razr M has been out longer so may have more accessories
I'm looking for some myself. RAZR i has a dedicated camera button where M does not.

Given you're on AT&T, I'm going to assume you're stateside. The biggest issue for those of us that imported this phone is that any device specific accessories will also have to be imported, as the phone won't be released here. Ever (as per Intel).
It's unlikely we'll see any Intel toting phones in the US (officially) until the Silverton Atoms are released with LTE support.
Amazon UK seems to have some cases. As I am not a case user, and don't know exactly what you want, that's all I can suggest.
Edit: Bah, ignore me. I replied to the wrong guy...

I am looking to get a no contract Moto X. They say the model is XT1053. I don't want the Dev version because I like the Moto software that comes on the no Dev version. Is the Dev version just pure Android?
I am coming from the AT&T Galaxy S4 not rooted but sim unlocked.
I know the Moto X is a nice phone but almost having a hard time to commit to the purchase. I will be selling the Galaxy S4 to recoup the money but what would you do?

Dev version and regular version are identical. The only difference is you don't lose your warranty when you unlock.
The Moto X is the best phone I've ever used, bar none. If you have read reviews and think you'll like it, buy it.

The Dev Edition XT1053, and the GSM Unlocked (comes with T-Mobile SIM) XT1053 and GSM Unlocked (comes with Net10 Sim) XT1053 use the same rom, radio, baseband, etc. They have the same software pre-installed, the same features, etc.
The Dev Edition comes only as Black Front, woven white back that says Dev Edition, silver accents (buttons and camera ring), 32gig, and unlocking the bootloader does NOT void the warranty.
The GSM Unlocked (with T-Mo or Net10 sim) is basically the same, except available as 16, 32 or 64gig, fully customizable front/back/accents, and unlocking its bootloader DOES void the warranty.
So if having the warranty is more important than looks, go with the Dev Edition and put a case on it. If looks or 64gig are more important than warranty, go Moto Maker.
I have a VZW developer edition. I purchased a black back cover for it. The covers are pretty easy to replace.
I wanted an unlocked bootloader so I would have the option of flashing mods or ROMs in the future. So far I'm satisfied with the stock software, but there may be a point in time I want something different.

There is a thread somewhere in this forum with links to purchase replacement back plates. I think mine came from china.

I ended up with a "best example" of any X. The screen just not up to other phones for outdoor readability!
With no contract and being able to customize the look to meet your color needs, notifications and touch less control, Motorola Assist how can you not get one.
$299.99 for 16GB
$324.99 for 32GB
These people that ***** about this and that spend endless time complaining about everything!

I am not a fan of X's display coming from an S4, but which AMOLED panel has good colour accuracy? They all are extremely over saturated, S4 was, S5 is (a completely different story with Cinema preset though), and X is too. Yes I will agree that it's more saturated than S4's display, but still it's not that bad that I will have to complain about it. It's basically the same display which was used in Note 2 right?
It is entirely too unweildy for me for everyday usage.
Basic things like it not fitting in the cup holder or the dedicated cellphone pocket in my truck, not to mention being very afraid of dropping it because of the slick sides and back.

Although, I will say this... if development such as ROM or kernel development is important then Droid Turbo is not the way to go because Verizon devices tend to be very locked down (with the exception of Nexus devices... but then again VZW proved us wrong on the Galaxy Nexus and released no details about N6 yet other that they're having it on their network)

I'm in okc. Would you be willing to ship? If we do it over PayPal there is a claims resolution. I've used it to get back cash from a crappy sale. I think this is how it goes.
1. I pay you over PayPal
2. You ship with signature confirmation to prove shipment and protect yourself.
We could also use Google wallet if you prefer, but i don't know how that might work.

The Nexus 6 mini is already out. It's the Moto X (2014)
Did you buy through Motorola or the play store? Why not get your money back and buy the new moto x outright. Sounds like exactly what you're wanting from the nexus, plus it got lollipop already before any other carrier version. What bizarre world did I wake up in today?
Sent from my Nexus 6
So I found this phone on Craigslist and couldn't resist buying it ( I know, bad idea). But basically, this phone has "Motorola Confidential Property. Not for Sale" printed on the bottom of the screen along with a Motorola logo and some numbers at the top of the screen. It also doesn't have the Nexus logo printed on the back.
I took it home, and it did not work with any sim I had. So i started digging around in the phones settings and bootloader to see if anything was different. I only found two things that were different apart from physical appearance:
1. Product Variant in bootloader says "shamu XT 1103 32 GB P2A" while all other Nexus 6's I have seen have "shamu XT 1103 32 GB P3A0"
2. The baseband in settings ends with a lowercase "p" instead of "R" (no matter what baseband I flash in fastboot).
One last tidbit that I thought was interesting is that this phones IMEI shows up as clean and ready to activate on any network but I believe it is because the IMEI does not exist in any database. I called Motorola and gave them the IMEI, and they said they found no phone on their database with that IMEI.
Does anyone know if their is a way to convert this to a functioning Nexus 6? I assume it is these differences and the unknown IMEI preventing me from activating the phone on my network. While I would like to get the phone working with my network, I mostly posted this on here to see what people had to say about the phone and maybe someone knows how to get it working on here. I can post pictures of the phone if people want.
I don't have an answer, but it would be pretty cool to get a "Nexus 6" prototype working. Can you take a picture of the phone? I'd be interested in seeing the front and back, or the differences. Thanks

Hmm, I didn't consider that. I don't think it is, unless the "Nexus 6" name mentioned in the settings/bootloader were somehow changed to that prior to me buying the phone. It does look a lot like it though, although the "M" logo in the back is different on mine then the one in that picture. The hardware listed in the bootloader also matches up with the hardware in standard Nexus 6's, unless both phones had the same hardware.
One other thing that helps prove that it is some type of Nexus 6 is the IMEI, which shows up as Nexus 6 on a lot of databases (although not in Motorola's haha...).
EDIT: if it is somehow the Moto x pro, maybe that would explain why the phone does not work in the states, and probably why the baseband is different.

Its possible, although the phone does recognize the sim card. it just shows no service (similar to how a phone with a bad IMEI acts). How could I verify if the sim reader was broken?

Looks like the M logo could be some kind of fingerprint reader.
Regarding the different Motorola logo on the back, I guess, that it could be a fingerprint sensor:

It was planned, but removed. They even had it in their git: shamu: remove fingerprint support.

I think you and spartan are right. It feels like it would be a fingerprint sensor, although the M logo threw me off.
It looks exactly like the pictures spartan posted of the fingerprint sensor prototype . perhaps that is why my product variant is P2A and not P3A0.
Would be cool to get the sensor working.

As for wireless providers I have tried, I inserted a Verizon and T mobile sim card (both working on other phones) and had no service although the phone did recognize a sim was inserted.
What do you mean by getting my hands on the HW lib?
Again, thanks for posting.

@Spartaner25 linked to a commit that removed the fingerprint scanner support. In that commit it copied and set permissions on a hardware lib for the scanner.

Well, I think I'm going to go ahead and sell the phone on eBay to someone that uses these phones overseas. I'm not confident in my ability to get the phone working with my network so I am trying to get my money back.
I explained to him what kind of phone this was and he told me that if it didn't work with his country's network he would return it to me. If he does end up returning it to me, would you be okay with me sending you a message asking for help with this buck?

Hi,
Very interesting phone, thanks for having taken the risk.
Before selling it, can you post the manufacture date (Bootloader -> Barcodes) ?
You said that it shows as an XT1103. That's the US Nexus 6. The XT1100 is the international Nexus 6. The Moto X Pro is XT1115.
What you have there is a prototype US Nexus 6.
Try an app like LTE Discovery to see if the radio is even working and detecting towers.
If the phone is, indeed, a prototype. Shouldn't it be running Lollipop instead of M with Nov. security patch? Strange.

It was running a developer version of Android 5.0.1 when I bought it but I flashed latest software from google.
I live in the U.S. and bought the unlocked x4 from Motorola’s website and when I try and open the Moto Alexa app it says it’s not available in my region? Why would that be since amazon echo and every other amazon device works here?
Sounds like the version that Motorola sold you was the EU or UK version. Does it have 4GB of RAM?

I have the same problem. I chatted with Amazon support about it and they said the only thing they can do is exchange it for another one. So I sent it back this morning and I've got another one on the way. It has 3gb of ram too so I'm thinking they pushed the wrong version of the app to the phone. Glad I'm not the only one who is having this issue. I'll let you know if the new one works (I'll get it Saturday).
Oh and I'm in Springfield Missouri btw so yeah it should work here no problem. Point being that it should work anywhere in the US.

Let us all know if your replacement worked. I am having that same issue with my Moto X4. It's also the 32/3gb version. And as you, I'm in the USA, Kansas to be exact. All my other Amazon devices work perfectly here.

Update for my Moto X4. I did get Moto Alexa to work. My issue was setting up Moto Alexa without a simcard installed. Once I put in the sim card Moto Alexa started working and works wonderfully well. Reason why I wasn't using a simcard, this wonderful device is not for me. its for my father. He's upgrading from a Samsung Galaxy S3.
I do hope my resolution helps others having the same issue.

Oh wow! Thank you so much for figuring that out. Oddly enough, I installed the "Moto Alexa" app an old moto phone and it didn't work either and I got to thinking about it and wondered if having a sim card in the phone would make a difference but didn't have the time to try out my theory. Thanks for doing the heavy lifting. I get the new one tomorrow so we shall see if it works for me too. Motorola and Amazon really should post that the Alexa app isn't going to work without a sim card in the phone.

From what I've seen, the sim card is for the inital setup of Moto Alexa. Once that was set up and working, I took the simcard out and it responded perfectly.
In the morning, I head down to the AT&T store to get the new nano simcard for it. I am very glad that I did not have to send the phone back to Amazon.
The Moto Alexa app is nice. only complaint I have about it is minor. You cannot use "Drop In" to call other Alexa devices. Need to use the full Alexa app.
Wish I could install Moto Alexa on my Oneplus 2.

Got the new one this morning and yeah I can confirm that putting in a sim card makes it work. And yes I wish it had the drop in feature too but hopefully it'll get added at a later date.

That's weird because I've had a sim card in mind and Alexa doesn't work

Sorry to hear it isn't working for you. I had to send my new one back cause it had some weird circle burn in in the screen. I think it was the glue for the screen and digitiser but not sure. Either way, nice phone but bad built quality.
quick question: is alexa available for brazilian devices? it says its not compatible, and I'm (not so) sure mine is not project fi

Off hand I don't know if it will work in Brazil or on brazillian devices. Amazon.com might be better place to ask. Unless someone else here is able to.

I've clreared that up. that was very silly of me to ask it here to be honest hahaha. but thank you.
Awesome, I picked up the moto mod alexa speaker on clearance for 60 bucks (open box). I was going to use my Z play as an alexa device alarm clock since I cannot bear to part with it (replaced it with the z2 force but I still want to keep it for travel since it never ever dies). I could set moto alexa app up just fine on my z2force but not on the play - said I needed a sim to use it. Glad to hear it is just for inital setup.
