Any Promos coming? - X 2014 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does any one know if Motorola plans on doing any more promo codes for the moto x 2014? I want to get a second one, but want to get a good deal on the pure version of it. Or does anyone have a code that they are not using that might work Please

Verizon Moto X Customization

Hi Folks,
So have a question regarding the motomaker option going live for Verizon. I had bought my moto x about a month n half ago from amazon (verizon). Now that the motomaker for verizon is live, is there a way I can get this and return my current phone / get money back...etc???
Really don't wanna shell out $600 twice

You may have to sell it through Swappa/EBay/Craigslist and use what you get toward the Moto Maker version you want.

You can't return a device that old As stated, you're only real option is to sell your current one. If it's in excellent condition you could squeeze out a little bit over 400. If you can stick to selling locally to avoid any sellers fees.
I remember when the moto x came out there was talk about being able to send your phone in and get new colors. Maybe it's still coming, but it would be a nice option. Personally I want the development edition, but I don't like the black. I chatted on moto maker and they said it's not possible. I think it's sad that they've put so many artificial restrictions on it.

[Q] Moto X vs. Moto G: Which to Gift

Hi everyone,
I'm looking to gift a new smartphone to my wife this holiday. She is by no means an Android power-user. I'm debating between the X and the G (I snagged a discount code for the X). I know the spec rundown for both devices, but I'm not sure I can justify nearly double the cost for the X. I'm looking for input from people who may have used both devices. Which would you choose as a daily-driver for a non-techie and why?
Thanks.
I think a custom Moto X in her favorite color(s) would be awesome for her imo. And you will get LTE to boot. The Moto G doesn't have LTE to my knowledge correct?

For a young kid a moto g but for your wife a moto x.
I don't think it's any contest on which is the far better phone. I would get the X with the discount code.
That's if she will actually use and enjoy a smartphone. If she's not going to make much use of it, of course the cheaper phone is the way to go - but she'll have a better experience on the Moto X.
My understanding, and granted, this is perhaps based on several week old information, was that the biggest difference between the X and the G was the lack of active notifications in the G. I'd say it depends on just how non techy savvy your wife is ... Personally, I'm eying the G as my mother's next phone, to ease her into a smart phone. If your wife has at least android experience, then would probably be wiser to go the route of the X.
There are a lot of differences between the X and the G. Active notifications is one. The G has no LTE, no always-on listening, no assist modes, less RAM (so it will be more prone to stuttering when lots of applications are running), and a slower CPU/GPU so it won't feel as fast.
I mean, it appears to be a tremendous phone for under $200, and a great phone for anyone looking to start out in the smartphone area, but it's definitely not just a tiny step down from the X.
It would be a close call if not for the discount code. 350 is a steal for the experience of the moto X.
I had the exact problem. I had ordered 2 Moto G's for my daughter and her husband. Then they announced the Promo Sale for the Moto X. I went with the Moto X's and I am completely happy with that decesion. I think your wife will be really impressed the Moto X's extra abilities that no other phone offers. Whatever you decide you will have a great phone.

I would say the biggest difference by far for a non-techie is the LTE on the X. That alone should decide your choice if your network supports 4g it's a no brainer

4G. Much better camera. Active notifications. At $350 it's a no-brainer.

Thanks for all the input. It turns out the G may be my only option. We are on a T-mo prepaid MVNO. The Moto Maker (and the discount) only allow purchases tied to the Big Four. (even with no contract). Has anyone successfully used the T-mo Moto Maker Moto X on a T-mo prepaid MVNO?
I remember putting my wife's old T-mo phone onto the MVNO without unlocking it, but it's a bit of a risk to purchase the X hoping to do that again. And the discount doesn't apply to the Dev edition. Thoughts?

Ya you can its sim-unlocked by default. I bought the tmo motomaker version and use it freely on at&t straight talk. It'll work with a tmo prepaid plan or mvno easily.

Thanks. Now I may have to cancel my order for the G... Just when I thought Christmas was sewed up.

If she's a non techie.... Honestly get the g. Then take her out to dinner or buy her another gift that you know shell like.
Most people really dont care about phones and honestly asking a bunch of xda people whar to do is probably pointless.
Moto g is plenty good and if you are on an mvno that doesn't have LTE shell barely care. Or buy her a moto g AND a nexus 7 or an iPad or something.
moto x as a gift

Have Moto Maker code / Want Unlocked X

I have an unused Moto Maker redemption code for a Verizon X and want an unlocked X that can be used on T-Mobile or ATT. I'm willing to include cash on top. If someone is trustworthy and willing, I'll redeem the code to your specs and after they deliver (per Moto's rules, it has to be delivered to my address) we can work out the trade.
Thanks!
Try that deal in a buy and sell. Regular folk that know nothing of root would maybe like it. Trade them a custom moto maker the way they want for a used t-mobile. You might want to offer to sim unlock it too. If you can on moto maker? Then you're set.
Problem asking here, is EVERYBODY here wants to be unlocked. Lol

Good point and thanks for the tip! Unfortunately sim unlock is not an option that I'm aware of.
There must be someone out there wanting to come to big red...

Just FYI, the Verizon XT1060 is already SIM-Unlocked and will work on T-Mobile and AT&T. There are a few caveats, however.
You can only have voice OR data working, and not both at the same time (on GSM). Also, the phone only supports some of the GSM data frequencies (but all of the voice frequencies). Because of this, you may only be able to get EDGE data in some areas.
Also, consider listing on swappa (XDA's official marketplace). You might look through the listings for the GSM unlocked versions, and message the sellers to see if they would consider your trade...
Good Luck

Change Carriers with replacement device

I need to contact Motorola to file a claim for my Moto X. Coincidentally, I am thinking of switching carriers from Verizon to T-Mobile. It's my understanding that with a customized device they just give you a code, so could I use that code to get a pure edition or does it have to be a verizon one? If I wanted the 64gb (currently have a 32) could I just pay the extra $100 at checkout?

that is an interesting idea. you could prob just chat with moto and find out. Not sure about paying the diff for additional storage but i think changing carriers might be a possibility. Let me know what kind of luck you have bc i am thinking of switching to tmo from verizon as well.

Moto X 2014 on ATT

Hey guys! I had something that I felt i needed to share.
I bought the Moto X 2014 on the ATT network, and I really enjoyed it for a few months. Until I started seeing really cool CM themes, and really cool roms. I am fed up with ATT holding me back when I pay them monthly, and buy their products. Why cant they let us do what we want?
If anyone has any ideas please let me know, and for the record I cant buy a new phone, unfortunately its not an option.
