(cross posted to Nexus 5 subreddit)
So I've had my N5 since it was first available (ordered it the first day it was on Google Play). Over the last 6 months or so, I've had absolutely atrocious battery life, which I attributed to the upgrade to Android 5. Most recently, the battery life has been so bad that I could be at 98% and after 10 or 15 minutes of playing a game with GPU usage, the phone just shut down. After a reboot, the phone said my battery was at 1%. Then I'd keep the phone off, leave it for 20 or 30 minutes and when I turned it on again, it told me the battery was at 40%. Super strange.
Long story short, I decided that my battery had some real problems. So I took a chance and ordered what looked like an ok battery replacement off of Amazon (link below) as well as some tools from iFixit.com (link below) and decided I was going to try to install a new battery.
Well, it's been about a week since I did the battery replacement (link below to the YouTube video that was helpful) and my phone feels like a brand new device. I get a real, full-day use of the phone now, which for me is having it on and using maps, Gmail, texting, Chrome, Facebook, Play Music, and a few other key apps. Some games here and there. I also obviously have the phone off during the day when I don't need it. Before the battery replacement, my phone could easily be dead with a mix of screen on and off time in 2 hours or less. Now I'm getting 13-14 hours easily. Really amazing.
So I thought this was important enough to share with everyone. If you're in the same boat that I was, you might give this a shot too. Here's everything you need to do what I did:
BATTERY (ships from Chicago, NOT China! this was key!): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LD7S6YQ
iFIXIT TOOLS (if you don't already have these): https://www.ifixit.com/Store/Tools/Plastic-Opening-Tools/IF145-000-1
YOUTUBE TUTORIAL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlmKLfgUtBQ
Here's some additional info about my setup that may be helpful: ROM: Cataclysm latest stable build (built off 5.1) KERNEL: Elemental X 2.11. Also using Greenify to hibernate unnecessary background apps
Feel free to ask any other questions. I'm really pleased with how things have gone with this new battery (at least for this first week, which I know is not tons of time). For the moment, it feels like I have a brand new phone!
I was just starting to look for a replacement for my N5. This one doesn't get the greatest of reviews. I've wasted $13.50 on worse though. You still recommend it?

I do! Granted, I've had this for just about a week so it's not the best assessment of long term performance but the difference between the dead stock battery I had and this new one is night and day. I can go all day with this new one. I could barely go an hour with the old one before it shut off. Worth a shot -- and to your point it's only $13.50.
Great thread!
But I think my battery still no dead, can get 3.5 hours of SOT with like near to 2 hours gaming, and it can still standby for at most whole days with such usage
Now in stock 5.1 with elementalX kernel
ONLY fresh year battery to buy
I hope for a long battery manufacturing. Unfortunately, the design of batteries is that they are prone to aging. Even if they are in a store, they begin to lose capacitance over time. It is necessary to carefully examine what year battery you want to buy
Hmm, also considering replacing my battery...
One day my phone was going haywire and I took it apart (easier than I thought) replugged the battery cord and worked fine after that.
Probably anal but right when I unplugged my phone from the charger just now it went from 100% -> 99% instantly.. dun dun dun! lol I've had my phone since December 2013 so yeah you can tell how long I've had my phone for! haha
I ordered one from etradesupply that will arrive tomorrow. I hope it has a fairly recent manufacturing date and isn't some extra stock from 2013. I know I am paying more due to shipping but buying batteries on ebay makes me so nervous about fakes and the quality. At least it looks super easy to swap out.
Coincidentally, I came to the same conclusion yesterday and ordered a new battery. It appears to be something of a minefield and you can pay between £8 and £30 for what seems to be the same battery!
In the end, I went with a mid-price battery from a reputable seller and hopefully all will be well...quite excited for it to arrive
My new battery just arrived today! I'll get it fitted and update with how it is. I've got some screens of battery life at the moment. Hopefully it improves

My etradesupply battery arrived yesterday. It looks exactly like the stock battery and shipped from Texas. Manufacture date is September of 2014... Can't remember the exact date but it for sure september of 2014 which is older than I'd like but we'll see. It was at 47% charge which is about what it should be for storage.
I haven't had a chance to do a full cycle yet. I just charged it to 100% once so far. My screen on time is 2 hours 15 minutes with 34% battery left. I don't do anything special to conserve battery and use automatic brightness set to 50% or whatever stock is. That's a mix of games and browsing.
I am not sure if a new battery has to go through a full cycle to get calibrated or anything like that. I've read laptops should be drained completely once in awhile (not often) to recalibrate something with how the battery life is measured. I feel battery life is better than the battery it replaced so far which is what matters to me. If I can get 3+ hours SOT consistently I'll be happy. I was getting down to around 2 hours SOT on my old battery.
I've been contemplating getting a new battery for a while. I have a launch week device so my battery is sitting around 18 months old. I'm not getting terrible battery life but it's not as good as it was either. My usage patterns have changed since then and I also keep a lot of apps installed and have everything turned on as opposed to when I first had the device I had a script remove most everything from the phone and kept most things turned off. I'd say an average work day I'll see 2-2 1/2 hours screen on time with about 1 1/2-2hours bluetooth music playback. I'm looking for a charger around 6pm when I get home.

i see you're in the US so not sure if I'll be of much help. I ordered off ebay, just checked to make sure there was plenty of feedback for the battery. Just using up the battery of my current one so will change tonight and hopefully update tomorrow!
Good to hear OP! I always look forma back up bstteryied con amsozn
Just my luck. I get the one battery that doesn't charge ? have to wait on a replacement now
Every one knows batteries need to empty and fill a good few times to reach peak holding. I replaced mine with a genuine OEM, from Amazon, and it took a good few days then it made a huge difference longevity. Never buy cheap batteries. They are fake and can't be told from the real thing until you use it AND findout. Go by the reviews and who is selling

Where can I get the battery in India. My battery too draining like hell..
Can anyone suggest where I can get battery in India.. Online website is fine
I have my old battery replace at the official LG service center here in Manila and all i can say is that my 5's battery life is just like brand new. After a year with the old battery, sot max is just 1.5 hours, after the replacement, 4.5 hours.

How many mAh is the original?
Does this battery require a new backing?
The stock battery is 1500 mah.
It uses the original back.
thats pretty cheap.
ships in 12 days thogh
is anyone using this battery ??
will HERO last one full day (lets say 14h) on it ? without switching off 3g,automatic updates etc ?
hell i ordered one, i had a few hours OT this week haha
I bought one of these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190309433477
and I bought a couple extra standard batteries with a external charger.
They work great!
It is cheaper than the 1750mAh battery from seidio.
Has anyone in the past used a battery from Mugen Power? Wondering if it's any good. I've used batteries from Seidio and worked out very good. Just debating if I should save a few bucks by buying the Mugen Power battery over Seidio
I used a battery from mugen when I had my ppc-6600 and I was satisfied with it. I haven't used any lately.
I got mine this morning and I can honesty say that I already notice a difference and I haven't gotten the battery cycled yet. I'm also a heavy user.

Yep. Usually if I took my Hero off the charger at 8am, it would be dead around 2. With this new battery, it lasted 12 hours on the first charge. Also, it completely charges from dead to 100% very quickly.
And like I said, I'm a heavy user.

I'll presume you're talking about the Mugen battery -- if that's the case, it's also the one I bought. However, I don't know if I'm seeing the results I should be. How did you go back conditioning your battery? I know the standard is to let the new battery charge for 12 hours -- use until almost dead and repeat this step for a couple of days.
Also, since using the new battery, I've also cleared the battery stats via recovery, but for some odd reason, the moment I take my phone off the charger -- (7:15 A.M) about 5 minutes after, my battery already says that's its at like 95%. Now it's 8:22 and my battery reads 87%.... that just doesn't seem to make sense to me.
I'm a pretty moderate/heavy user -- text a lot, have at least probably one or two 30 minute calls a day, use the web quite often, and I have FB & TechBuzz pulling every 2 hours. I sometimes wonder if my regular (1500 mah) battery was better?
EDIT:: It's now 11:36 and my battery is at 81% -- so things actually seem to be okay. However, I still can't get over why my battery would initially lose 15-18% of power within what looks like to be the first hour.
EDIT Again:: It looks like I'm finally getting the results I was hoping. It's now 9:20 -- and my battery is at 49%, which is extremely good. Usually the standard battery by now would be at 10-15%. Satisfied so far!
I have the same battery and mine shows 100% out of the charger, and down to 87% in an hour with very little use. Its the Mid power curve thats the long life of the 1800 Mugen battery, at least for me. Drops off fast from 100 to mid 80's and then seems like it reads 70-50% forever. I actually have to turn on alot of resources to get the battery level down low enough to recharge properly. I still like to charge when only about 20% or less is left in the battery, or when the "Warning, Plug your phone into your Charger" comes on. Reminds me of Robbie the Robot warning from Lost in Space, "Warning, now generating 100,000 Volts" lol.
Anyway, I didn't see much difference at first but afer a few charge/discharge cycles you will. To prove it, go back to your stock battery to see the difference.
Regards,
I bought the Mugen 1800 today with code 5off2010

There was some some sort of notice during the ordering process that some people have trouble receiving their packages and that is this happens to you that you should contact them and they will re-ship.
This battery is GOAT... highly recommend it and I'm not done conditioning it. With heavy use I'm at end of day 2...Got 2.5 days of minimal use of email, twitter, FB and browsing (NFL Live vids too); on first charge. The 2 day limit was with one day full of emails that would come every 15-20 mins and price is pretty damn good too.
Let me know your thoughts!
yeah i am seriously giving this one a hard look... going to try the stock battery to see if it suits my needs or not then might jump off. thanks for the feedback on it.
How much extra bulk, if any, does this battery add to the phone?
this battery is the same size as stock so other than a possible slight difference in weight should feel the same.
I've been waiting to hear reports of this one, ordering now. I will post back with the results once I receive it in.. 5-10 business days.
my guess is once it's conditioned after several power cycles, etc I'm going to get 1.5- 2 days on a single charge which is better than the .5 - 1 day I got with the stock battery on a single charge and moderate - heavy phone use (mostly data and texting, some phone).
I've been using a Mugen battery for the past two weeks and I can say that it's a huge difference from the stock battery. My phone gets heavy use and I used to have to charge it in the middle of the afternoon to make it through the day. Now when I get in bed around 11:30 I still have about 33% remaining. These are definitely worth the purchase. Just make sure to condition it properly...

I suggest to all those who havent bought it yet, and are planing to, please wait for some time if its not urgent, MOMAX will surely come out with a "X-LEVEL" battery for the HD2!
I have used the MOMAX X-LEVEL battery for my previous Touch HD, and it was like around 20% more long lasting than the Original battery by HTC.
interesting. im doing the last full empty to full charge cycle (ive heard its good for the battery) and this is day 3 (21:00) iver used the phone couple of times a day for calls (short ones) and for a few youtube vids via 3.5g some games and just playing around with it.
ive noticed battery drains very fast when using wifi and data connection.
so a 10 to 20 % increase in battery life might not be that exciting.
unless i buy one as a backup battery.
might do that..pls keep me posted
i will be keeping an eye on this thread as i just scrap through a day with the original battery... its gettign me down
must add thou, how is it better being less mAh ?
in the same size? I mean you don't need another back cover..?
Man. There are people complaining about having 30% on day 2. I'm at 30% before 5pm on the first day.

Haha! ^This^ - If I just leave the phone sitting there, on the desk - Battery life is good. But, I bought this phone to play with, dammit! I can use up 30/40% of battery before lunch surfing, tweeting, watching vids, listening to podcast etc, Oh - and feeding my addiction to crayon physics. I have actually had to invest in a 'manbag' (dear Lord, the shame!) in order to cart around my charger.
Coming from a Nokia E71 - which had a phenomenal battery life (i'd get three/four days of heavy use) it's a bit of a shock, but understandable - after all, screen is about 4 times the size! However; physically, the E71 battery (BP-4L) was no larger - if anything seemed slightly smaller in my recall - and was a 1500mAh beast. Surely HTC could have crammed in a little more juice without having the resort to turning the slim HD2 into a less handsome Quasimdo figure with the promised extended battery? Oh well, I shall stick to the manbag for now.
Amazing! Where do you people find this information on batteries and chargers such as the Momax!!! In relation to this subject: has anyone spotted the double capacaty battery and matsching backplate for the HD2, you know the one that has been rumuroing arout on other forum threads on the Leo (with the picture where the stand leg comes out of the back plate).
I have gone for it ! EDIT: It's here!

It appears to be OEM, and is gonna be much cheaper than the crap out now.
My main issue, what cases are gonna fit around this nicely?
I don't want it to be a fatso.. Then theres also the issue of heat, considering the larger battery and a case on top.
Thoughts?
I see at the bottom of the page they are suggesting to buy the brackettron car mount.
Does that mean the official car dock won't fit with this higher back and battery?
I really want the bigger battery, seems i'll have to get a new dock too.
Correct, the phone will be too big to fit the official car dock with a extended battery on it.
What I recommend is buying the battery and holding off on the car dock. Is the battery gonna make THAT much of a difference? Really?
It comes out on July the 6th... your post says June... just fyi
They better make a rubberized case for that thing.

After reading the thorough comparisons of OEM and aftermarket batteries in the N1 forum (by user dougie i believe?)
I thought it would be a better idea to wait for an HTC extended battery.
Save money, and guaranteed quality.
I haven't tried seidio products so I can't say they are bad, but i'd trust HTC over them anyday.

I've used their cases and extended cap batts on BlackBerries and, now, on my DINC. Probably had 6 extended caps on BlackBerrys, and their holsters are the only ones I'll use - nothing but the best quality and design.
As for the extended cap batts, they perform the way I'd expect them to. I've had not difficulties with them, nor have I experienced anything that would keep me from continuing to buy their product in the future. The only "downside" is that yes, they tend to be on the pricier side but, again, worth it. Just my opinion and experience though.

Like with any battery, you need to condition it first. It needs to go through 3 or so full battery cycles (completely charged to completely dead) to get to its full potential. If you did not do this, then you are not getting accurate results. I received this battery Monday, and its just now getting to its full potential. I've gone 2 full days without charging on normal use and one time I just laid it all out turning bluetooth on, GPS, leaving wifi tether on (even though I wasn't always using it), had all my accounts syncing every hour, and left an irc chat open in the background and still got well over a day of use.
Lithium ion batteries don't need to be cycled this will do nothing for battery life. Nickle cadmium on the other hand does need cycling.

Dozens of members and thread posts would disagree. And mine has increased every cycle since I've got it.
I don't know about conditioning.
My first charge I got over 28 hours out of it till 14% warning came on. Then 5 more hours till it came down to 10% battery left.
GPS, WiFi always on. and over 5 hours of talk time with that first charge. Something's wrong with your situation. Check all apps.
PS. I have Task Killer, but it ONLY runs when I tell it to kill apps manually. And I manually select the app to kill each time. (easier than going into settings>applications>yada yada). ATK does not run on its own on my phone.
---
2nd charge on my battery.
GPS, WiFi always on
Bluetooth Off
About 1.5 hours of total talk time today.
13:01 uptime
2:49 awake time
Voice Calls 27%
Cell Standby 21%
Phone Idle 19%
Wi-Fi 13%
Android System 12%
Dialer 4%
Display 4%
67% battery left
I'm on track to gettig another 28 hours of phone being "on" till next charge, if not more.
Well just ordered one since my 1750 is not holding up like when I first got it...
Sent from my ADR6300 using Tapatalk
Ordered the 3500 Mah today and found out that Verizon will take the 2150 back as long as it is within the 30 days. I am trying the cycling and what I see happening is that the longer I own the phone the less I am looking at every item and spending time looking for Apps. This in turn means the screen is on less time and so the battery life is becoming longer.
I am pretty impressed with the 2150. After 36 hours .. comprised of slightly above moderate usage during the day time.. I got about 21% left. GPS and Bluetooth were always left on.. used navigation for about 30 mins a day.

Mkk members may disagree but it is hard to disagree with facts which in this case full discharge and recharge is considered a placebo effect. Due to the fact that "lithium-ion is memory-free in terms of performance deterioration but many batteries have fuel gauges." Aka "digital memory" what this does is reports to your phone how much estimated charge you have left.

Hey guys! So I am having now turning 3 years old Xiaomi Mi3. It is still working pretty good with all these roms we've got credit to the great developers we have at XDA. The only problem I'm having is with the battery life. Previously it would last whole day. Now I'm charging it thrice daily.
So I ordered a new battery and replaced it.
The problem is at around 20 % of the battery, the phone died suddenly and when I put it in charging it flashed the notification light as if the battery is completely drained. Mind it that after replacement, I straight away charged the battery to 100% and then calibrated using battery calibration app by Nema.
After the phone died, I put it in offline charging and didn't reboot the phone until it was totally charged and then rebooted. It is now working fine!
The battery is holding better than what I was having but still, it goes down easily.
I am a heavy user! Lots of browsing, ebooks, emails, whatsapp, camera, etc.
Is anything else needed to be done.?
I am currently on second battery cycle of the new battery. Right now I got 2 hours 10 min SOT and 45% still left.
I am pretty sure, even this is not going to last the whole day as it used to do once back when the phone was new!
BTW am on NOS and it is pretty stable and generally always on 3g.
Please advise!
If you got the battery from official service center only then expect it to work as it used to do when the phone was new. Batteries from eBay, amazon and other websites won't give backup as the original one does because they aren't original ones, typically such batteries have 60% backup when compared to original one.

The thing is that the service center guy tells me that they have stopped importing parts of Xiaomi Mi3. I tried it in another center, they told me that it will cost 1500Rs for the battery and 600Rs for installation and service charges.
So I got it from ebay at 300Rs and replaced myself.
Probably you are right and this won't be giving any improvement to me! I just gave it a try so that I can wait for a month or so for newer phone launches. But I guess I have to rely more on charger than on battery
got a new battery for 300₹ from ebay..replaced it myself..3 yrs is more than enough from a single battery..battery backup ki great..m getting around 4.5-5hrs of SOT..probably which i was getting when i bought this phone..currently on DU. i am on wifi almost all the time.

Can you post a link?Does the device shut off at 20% battery?
Also can you check the battery temperature while charging? The one I bought from ebay never goes above 25.
