I just got the phone. So far, it seems like my signal is weaker than my other AT&T phones and I have yet to connect to the 700mhz band (just 1700 and 1900 so far). I just want to see what others are experiencing with the same phone. My signal is weak and my LTE speeds are slow in my current location, but I just moved here a few days ago, so I don't have a really good reference point.

Its because AT&T signal bars read differently, look at the numbers, not the bars.
Got mine too today and running on Crickett smoothly. All is working except can not send or receive pic mms. Anyone on cricket please post your apn. I am using the one on their site but having this issue. Also, is the charger provided not a rapid charger?

After couple of days using and comparing 920i and 920A on Att network decided to return 920i. Always better signal on 920A at least -5dBm and also much higher speeds at least x3 times, thats probably going to be fixed with rooting and Att firmware but Im not sure when will happend and if it works at all. Thats my experience, I hope you'll have better luck :good:

Are you using the same APN on both?
OK so is it safe to say if I want an unlocked international S6 Edge phone that works with Cricket.. I would need the SM-G925I?

Yes, that was the first thing I did. I like the 920i, it is unlocked, also unlocked bootloader, no bloatware and I like its tabless menu better, but worse signal and download speed, no warranty, front camera wasn't alligned properly, screen brightness weird right after rebooth made me stay away for now at least till they sort out some of those issues. Also there is a few other complains so didn't wanna take a chance with a $700 phone. This might be just my case, Im not trying to convince anyone, just giving my experience.

Also for the bars, there is no difference in representing the real signal, but on att 920A you have 5 bars and on 920i you only have 4, thats why I was comparing raw data in -dBm. If they figure out how to fix the signal I'll jump from the Att ship in a second
Everything else about my GS6 is fine, except I have the "always awake" issue, which I'm going to try and solve with stock recovery.
I compared the signal strength to several of my other phones last night: iPhone 6 Plus, OnePlus One, Moto X 2014. They were all in the same ballpark with respect to DBM and download speed except the Moto X, which was slightly stronger in both.
I don't think it's really an issue. I think it's just where I live.

just curios, where did you buy an unlocked gs6 and have the ability to return it? did you have to pay a restocking fee? I also wanna buy an unlocked g920i or g920f but I'm afraid it will have issues and I will be stuck with it.

From ebay/breed, I send it back still waiting for refund or different phone.
I am curious about an International Unlocked Phone versus a Carrier Branded Phone also.
Does the Carrier Software fine tune the Bands as well meaning an AT&T or Tmobile S6 is precisely optimized for the exact Bandwidth on each Band versus International Unlocked Phone has the General Bands but not as specifically fine tuned - therefore lower signal strength due to wider tolerances ?
It's not just you... i have the issue too, but honestly i don't think there is much of a apples-to-apples difference...
My 920a (which i'm returning today) seems to get better signal strength compared to my 920i which i just got yesterday. Both signal bar and numbers...
however, after running some speed tests (and setting my phone up downloading apps over network while driving through the country (on 1 bar) everything worked just fine.
speeds were consistently between 2.5 - 6.0 MB so i'd say it's working okay regardless.

Hi everyone, waiting for my Nexus to get shipped from the GPS but I've seen some anecdotal reports on here and the Android Central forums about the signal strength not being so great on this phone. Specifically, some people report that their LG Nexus 5 shows a better signal in dB (not just bars) than their Nexus 6.
I'm a little concerned about this. I relocated just over a year ago to an area where I don't have the best coverage with Verizon at my work. At that time, I had a Galaxy S3 which had terrible radios where I literally had no coverage in many places. I upgraded to an S4 and had no issues since then although my wife's Note 3 seems to do slightly better getting LTE when I drop to 3G. Was looking forward to getting this phone as it will be my first Motorola and I've always read that Moto has some of the best radios (also read LG and Apple do too). Not gonna turn this into a Note 4 vs Nexus 6 thread because that one already exists and is a hot mess but I've been reading that the signal strength on the Note 4 is really good.
I have a ship date of 11/26 so I guess I'll find out soon enough but just wondering what people's experience has been with the Nexus 6.
Thanks!
I'm curious about this as well, I have a Nexus 4 and find its radios to be more powerful than my siblings and gfs Nexus 5s.

Mine has about the same reception if not a little better than my G3. Att is really bad where I live but I usually have LTE except for a few places but its much better than my wife's S5
i think people just get too caught up in graphical representations of signal (i.e. signal bars). Different phones and carriers show different things for the same level of actual signal. In my experience on T-Mobile on Long Island/ NYC - i get as good if not better signal than i did with my nexus 5. There are a few spots where i had no signal with my nexus 5 that i now get a stable weak signal with the nexus 6. To me, it really has been as good or better, but certainly not worse. With that said, graphically spots where the nexus 5 said i had full bars of service (5/5), the N6 reports as having (4/5), but the service is the same. Speed tests and dbm all match up, so i can just assume it's the way it's being displayed.
The sony Z3 I had had the same dbm that the Nexus 6 is showing in my office, but the visual bars on the Nexus 6 show as being lower. I haven't had any slower speeds anywhere with the Nexus 6 so far. One thing I have noticed is that I'm not getting 4G while on the phone the majority of the time. I haven't had that be an issue in the past. I'm on T-Mobile.
Now THIS is something that I have really been wanting to know. The fact that I too have heard about how good Moto's radios have been in the past really got my hopes up for this phone. I currently rock an AT&T Note 3. And IDK if I just got a lemon, or if Samsung really did throw the cheapest POS radio in their last year flagship phone. But of all the android phones I have owned (Sony, HTC, Moto, samsung) this one gets hands down the worst signal strength I have ever had. Further more, I make it a habbit to compare this thing to every other AT&T phone I can, from friends and family. And not one of them has ever had worse signal strength than I. The closest one had about -3dB less than mine. Most had -5 or even -10dB better. Even after flashing every single AT&T radio firmware, different cases, it still is just terrible. Right now sitting in my house it is at -100 and showing 3 bars. I work as a drive tester for cell towers, and my test phone is a sprint Nexus 5. So I cant compare it to my note, being on a different network.
But on to the topic of the N6, since it has radios for pretty much every network, would that mean that said radios are of a lesser quality? I had really hoped that this phone would blow my Note 3 out of the water on AT&T. Honestly, even if it isn't as good as other Moto phones, it still has to be better than my Note 3. Even dads S5 active and moms S4 get much better signal strength numbers than mine. Forgive me for asking this, but is this something that can be improved within the dev community with some flashing, or is it just a hardware limitation?

Haha I am not alone! Well, here's to better signal in the N6!!!
Seems to me that the nexus 6 reports low signal as time without signal. Hasn't been an issue here as I'm always connected to lte even in places I'd drop to 3g
So anything new on Signal? I'm trying to buy a Nexus6 but haven't been able to on Verizon. Hope there is some good news there has been a lot of bad.

I'm on Verizon and really doesn't make much difference on my Droid Maxx. Maybe its something in 5.0. I gotta give it a shot can always send it back if I can ever get one. Pisses me off I got the money for the phone and I can't buy it. Maybe that's some kind of sign. lol
I get a little better signal than my wife's Note 4 in the same locations. She has an otterbox commuter case on though and I'm still running around naked.
I have similar experiences with my N6, or had. I've only had it for 2 days though, but I was having signal drop out and 3g/LTE switching a lot yesterday. I changed my APN protocol to IPV4/IPV6 instead of IPV6 and today its been fine. I don't know if that actually had anything to do with it or not, but thought I'd share. I think its just a coincidence and for some reason my signal just decided to work better. Worth a shot.
So I changed to LTE and now I don't have a global option.... I travel internationally for work very expensively (T-Mobile free worldwide data ftw) and had found previously on my Nexus 5 that I needed to be on global for it to work anywhere else...
Any ideas here?
When there's a CDMA SIM in the phone (Verizon/Sprint), it shows the global option where it can use both CDMA and GSM networks. When there's a GSM SIM in the phone (Tmo, AT&T, etc.), it seems to go into GSM-only mode (no need to display global, which seems to mean GSM+CDMA in the Nexus 6's case).

Interesting change from the Nexus 5. Previously, I had to be sure global was selected overseas as opposed to just LTE, so you can see why I was originally concerned. Good to know. Thanks for the info man!
Hello. I've just talked with T-Mobile over one hour trying to make the phone connect to LTE. I've read multiple threads and things about it with very disheartening mixed results. I'm about to pack it and unfortunately send it back to them unless some knight in shining armor can really show me what is going wrong here.
I've tested in multiple ways the speed, the symbol doesn't switch from 4G and the speed barely reaches 10 mb.
Any luck?

I just tested both Nexus 5 that we have in the house and although they seem to connect to LTE, they also have low speed, so I suppose it is a network problem from the company. Let me know in case anyone has anything about it being a consistent problem on the OnePlus 3T though. Thanks.

Mmm, I've tested on the other phones again. All of them display LTE, none of them are getting top speeds like they usually do and the model seems to be correct. OnePlus 3T still display as 4G and has the same speed in the same network. Might be a T-Mobile problem.

Yeah, it seems like it. To be honest, I rarely check for LTE connection since I spend most of my days in a big zone with Wi-Fi everywhere. It's usually by train and all and since I don't use Netflix and all it might be a common problem and I never realized (but my old phone very rarely switched from LTE to 4G).
I'll call them about it.
Upgrade to OOS 4.1 see if it helps
Im having speed issues with Tmobile and the op3. My s7e and zuk z2 get 20-40mbps download, the op3 gets less than 1, but 9 mbps upload.
All connected on band 4, something is up...
Update OOS. apparently there were issues with T-Mobile and Carrier aggragation going on early in the phone's life. otherwise I have zero issues. That may solve your problem.
I purchased a midnight black and have been using it for about a week now, I flashed Freedom OS and havent had any LTE issues on T-Mobile
I'm on T-Mobile, model A3000, and mine is displaying the LTE logo and getting great speeds (40mb/s +). Is there anything I can check in my settings that would help you troubleshoot?
I'm with T-Mobile and I have no problems with my OnePlus 3T.

Like others have said, update your OxygenOS first, there have been carrier improvements since the version you're on. My 3T has had zero issues w/ T-Mobile. I get VoLTE and VoWiFi w/ no issues, along with respective LTE speeds.
My wife complains that she gets very bad reception with her unlocked s10. She didn't have this issue with her AT&T S8. Are there settings that I should change so that the phone works better on the AT&T network?
Similar issue, just using TMO. I sent feedback to Samsung regarding the U1's network perf, as well as other concerns. Keep in mind that software improvements can take months to appear in updates.

Try dialing *#*#4636#*#*
Then tap Phone Information, then Set Preferred Network Type to Global. This will take away LTE, but in my experience, I get a great HSPA+ signal. You won't notice a big difference in speed between HSPA+ and LTE, unless you are downloading big files.
I believe that this setting resets to the original setting when you reboot the phone. But just to be safe, take a screenshot of the setting before you change it. That way you can go back to LTE if you want.

On S10+ it ignores it. Could be from their carrier files for TMO.
Network app still works, guess the dialer was altered to ignore it by CSC.
I'm using the SM-G973U1 that I got from the States on the Telus network in Canada and I can confirm I also get poor reception. I get better reception with my GS7 Edge.
I didn't get great reception with my S9 while home and I believe my S10 unlocked may be worse. In certain rooms I'm not sure I could even make calls without wifi calling. My wife's Galaxy J7 gets 3 more bars than my S10.
Any idea if this is a general S10 issue? Debating whether to get the AT&T S10. Don't want to get it if it's going to have the same issue.
Good data and reception was the only reason for me to consider US snapdragon S10, glad I went with Exynos then as it can't be that worse.
I also faced the poor reception issue on unlocked S10+ with T-Mobile, but after flashing the T-Mobile firmware with odin the signal reception is very good. With T-mobile firmware now I'm getting at least 2 to 3 poles more, now I need too live with T-mobile bloat :crying:

Interesting.... do you have any others phones to compare to see how bad S10 signal levels are?
I am totally in if this thing will run on Verizon anyone have any idea if there will be a buy one get one offer like with the Note 10?
The ROG phone 1 seems to have the bands for Verizon 4G and 3G (even though 3G will be dying at the end of the year).
https://www.findpare.com/smartphone/asus-rog-phone-8gb-512gb/mobile-carriers
They haven't annouced which bands the ROG II will support yet, unless I missed it.
Verizon uses bands 1, 2, 4, 13 and 66. It supports Bands 1, 2, 4, 13, but doesn't support 66, which is pretty much just a re-label of 4 with AWS-3, and its in very few areas. 13 is the important band, because its Verizon's mainline 4G LTE band, so apparently the ROG Phone II supports it, which is good.
Sweetness, so does that mean it will work natively with all the regular functions like text voice and data?

Hopefully. People had trouble with the ROG Phone 1 when it came to Verizon compatibility, so tread lightly. I’d wait until a few people get their hands on this in the US before pulling the trigger on it.
Any updates... Note 10 plus otherwise I guess sigh...
so even though it says "WILL NOT WORK ON VERIZON", its possible it could work??? i cant believe there isnt more info on this.. i called asus yesterday and the guy put me on hold for about 30min and came back and said "yes sir it WILL work on verizon, but being that it says gsm only i called again to ask someone else and the next guy said it will not work. when this phone was announced i was told this one would work on verizon... wtaf

They don't know! You are wasting your time even calling Asus and Verizon. The thing you need to understand is when you call into these call centers you are one step away from talking to a robot. Everything they tell you is from an internal website or a automated wizard they have up on the screen, and if the employee doesn't know the answer they are going to give you a best case scenario answer so you don't ***** at them and leave a bad survey. Trust me, that's how it works. Save your time and patience!
The general consensus seems to be that it has the right bands but Verizon has not approved it for their network and thus it won't work. Also no CDMA radio to fall back on should you be out of LTE range.

Put my Verizon sim in yesterday to test, got 4G+ data, called Verzion gave them the IMEI and they submitted a form for me s/b done today or tomorrow to get it up and running on their network. The support rep says it registers on their network so no problem at all. On Tmobile now only getting 4G. On my Verizon S10+ I only get 2 bars in my house go figure.

Keep us posted on this. I have the phone and Verizon but bout to switch to at&t in a few weeks, so if I can use it on verizon in the meantime that'd be dope.

I WANT ALL OF YOU THAT HAVE THE PHONE AND HAVE VERIZON TO PUT THE SIM IN SLOT 2 OF THE TRAY AND POWER IT UP. You should see signal. Call Verizon tech support and give them your IMEI and have them check if it registered on the network. If they say yes have them put in a form to add it to the network.

Yes, I have. You will only have data....no calls. Even if vz adds phone to data base, volte is disabled in the US.

Not correct, I already have data w/o them adding me to the Network. Once its added and completed it will work fine even without VOLTE.

Does AT&T have Advanced calling features on none branded phones? Had a Galaxy Note 9 unlocked from Samsung and didn't work.

Lol, no it won't. Without volte the phone drops to 3g...so on tmo and att, calls work, because it's gsm bands. With vz, calls would try to drop to 3g, which is CDMA on vz, so no calls. Trust me, it's not gonna work, unless we figure out volte working.

If you say so, because using a Tmobile sim right now and have that issue. Spoke to my friend an engineer at Verizon and gave him all the specs. He said as long as it registers on their network and has most of the bands it should work. You're right about the No Volte which really stinks.
I'm going to keep the phone, do you know if volte and advanced calling features work with AT&T???
For those in the US (especially on T-Mobile). How is your reception? I'm really considering this phone, but I am on T-mobile and with the release of band 71. I live in a city where this was deployed and will honestly say its not the speed but the fact I can get reception anywhere now that makes me hesitant at looking at this phone. I will honestly say that this phone has the entire package I am looking for (I would gladly trade the headphone jack for wireless).
It's fine on my end using the tencent version. Calls are clear, sms comes through. Able to download stuff at fast enough speeds. So it should be good. I live in DFW, Texas so your mileage may vary
I live in central CT, also on T-Mobile using tencent version and it's been totally fine. Signal is a little worse than was on my pixel 3A and speeds are a bit slower. Much better than expected.
I just read that VoLTE and WiFI calling isn't possible. Can either of you validate if this is true or is this the Rog phone (original) that people are talking about.

No VOLTE but seems to have wifi calling..
I think we have to wait til someone is daring enough to purchase one, then check the IMS status. That's the only for sure way I know of, of confirming that it does or doesn't have volte

Is there an IMS screen on that device? Otherwise, another easy way to tell if you have volte, is when you make a call. Does the signal stay on 4g or does it drop to H+?

Did you get the phone that comes with the Chinese rom or flashed global rom? Because I'm tempted to get the phone but with the global rom flashed on it it lacks ota updates. Or should I wait for the US version to come out?

This is a link for the tencent version one with the global rom installed on it. For a global version of the phone, there is one listed in the "where to buy from" forum I think not really sure.

Honestly it doesn't make any difference which rom is installed when you buy it. My phone came with the WW rom, it's probably a little easier to do that, but converting doesn't look that hard. I changed the fingerprint yesterday so it gets OTAs now which is rad. Only difference between this and the upcoming US version is which bands if supports. It supports the main T-Mobile bands, so unless you're in a very rural area or a big city, you probably won't notice a difference.

Now that you have had the phone for a few days. How would you compare it to other phones on the T-Mobile? Do you notice bad reception/dropped calls? I am the most concerned about the reception and quality more than anything else.

The reception is good no drop calls only thing is when you make a call it drops to 3g or H+ but you can hear the other person clearly. The quality of the phone is Damm great. Those speakers sound amazing, the battery last a complete day with no problem. The OS has a few bugs. Overall the is great for the price..

Thank you again for answering our questions and being a valuable asset for any of us that have had questions or concerns. I really want to get this phone but have been hesitant because of call quality and OS upgrades. I would have to say though you have given me a fairly secure feeling about this phone so far. Thank you again
