Hello,
this may be my first post but i have done necessary research for my issues and i figured creating a new thread was the best idea. So if you could be of any help, it would be great.
first and foremost, i had a question about the different roms that are out there, they are excellent roms and i appreciate the work put into them, and currently i have one of dutty's roms on my phone and i love it, but i noticed that i am getting less service available after i upgraded my rom... i never had an issue of not having service in the place i live at except after i upgraded my rom, sometimes its just the interent 3g signal and sometimes i wont be able to make calls, and it comes and goes... does anyone have the same or similar problem after changing the rom from the stock tilt rom to another one?
secondly, this question is very specific to one of my needs and i d be glad if someone has the same need and can assist me. I like to watch NBA basketball and therefore i have the NBA league pass... and this allows me to watch games on my computer as well as my cable box... now i figured i would be able to watch these games on my phone... how ever when i go to the nba.com and try to access their league pass page... it sends me directly to the mobile version and they dont let me log into that. so my question is how do i set it so that my browser allows me the access the orginal version of the website instead of the mobile one... and if and when i am able to go to the non mobile version of the website... would i be able to stream those games on my phone?
Any help would be great...
last but not least i wanted to get everyones opinion on what they think is the best rom to use for being a multimedia inclined user... music, videos, pictures, streamin, youtube, etc.
bump... any help please.
Are there any apps that load full maps onto my gtab so I don't need to have a data connection to use my bt gps for navigation? As it is now, I believe Google navigation requires either wifi or tethering to work...
Co-pilot in market.
or you can find a version of motonav (basically igo 8.x) and maps from mobilism.org -- best 3d nav software out there that only requires gps, no data. map sets are ~1-2gb and you can get every single state and pretty much any country in the world now (teleatlas/navteq, mixed or whatever).
sort of tough for newbies to get really into customization, but i was huge into this on my past 2 mio devices, so if you need a hand drop me a line on here, no prob.
Thanks. I just dl'd co-pilot, but it says my trial is over, even though I entered my market order id.
I'll try motonav on my other machine and compare.

I use Co-Pilot. It is in the market, and if you want it for here in the good old USA it only costs $4.99..
Not as refined as a Garmin but it works. There is also NDrive. More expensive, more refined, I have never used it though..

I went round and round with Co-Pilot about that. I had it on my phone and had de-activated it but it would not activate on my G tablet. They sent me a link to download directly from them. It worked with my registration info after that.
How hard would it be to get Google navigation setup with an external GPS unit? I'll probably be picking up a GTablet soon, and am wondering how hard it would be to setup it as a navigator. Could it be done (if so, how easily) by hooking it up with a GPS unit? (Yea, it already does what I want the tablet to do, but its 3+ years old and slooooow to run haha). That or I could use the GPS on my phone once I get it running (HTC Vogue).

It is not hard to make GPS work with an external unit. Using Google Navigation though requires an internet connection since Google does not store the maps on your device. So you can use an external GPS receiver, and tether your phone for data. Or, there are ways to use the GPS in your phone and tether too. I have not tried it but hear it can be done.
BTW, I still have an ancient HTC Vogue that I run Android on too...

Yeah, my vogue has a slow data connection so I haven't bothered with any data-intense apps obviously like Google Nav. Guess I would need to get a different program on the Tab to hook up with the GPS unit itself. Any suggestions (preferable free ones haha?)
And w00t for another VogueDroider on here haha!

I would prefer to use Google nav because it works really well. The Vogue does not have wifi though and I have not found a way to tether it using bluetooth. So I use a program called Co-Pilot. It is only $4.99 in the market for the US version but it can be a pain to get activated on the G tablet. ALK who makes the program sent me a link to a non market version that did install with my registration info. It works ok, but not as well as Google nav. Seems to be missing plenty of addresses that are not new and should be there. They do have a way to let them know what is missing but I don't know how often they update.

Yes. I use CoPilot USA,$4.99 from the Market. You can download any or all US State maps for offline use. I use my DroidX as my BT receiver and it works like a charm. . . . I, too had trouble with activation. Had to send an email & call support Toni get it resolved.

Do you still have the link by any chance? I've tried 3 times on 2 gtabs, and each time it gives me error 703, my trial is over (even though I never took a trial).

I don't know if it is supposed to be a link for everyone or not or I would just post it.
No Joy with CoPilot
I purchased CoPilot through the Google Market place ($4.99 for USA) but no joy in installing it. Same 703 errors. Finally got through to someone in tech support (emails went unanswered) but their advice (basically wipe program and start again while downloading the maps separately onto my PC and then into the g-tablet) still resulted in errors. Since the holiday is coming up, this will probably not get solved in time for next weeks vacation/test run.
Oh well. For five bucks I wasn't expecting a lot and my MIO unit is still operational. Just hoping for some text to speech voice turns from my g-tablet. I will poke again after the holidays. Seems like a combination of the date not resetting or hard coded in the downloaded apk or authentification not getting out (since it is a wifi only machine; the program is expecting the telephone).
Unless anyone has any other suggestions?
success install after rom uprade
I installed latest ROM upgrade (3.1.1) and was able to get co-pilot installed and working. Combination of wiping user data and alk receiving gapps sales information.
No luck with John or Lisa. Anyone with hints for getting the voice portion working.
Ok, Ive been looking around these forums for a while and havent come across a working way to tether FROM you pc TO your tablet over wifi. I can do it over usb but the play store doesnt work and the bluetooth option isnt for me. I found a way to actually get wifi to work (at least for me) if thiere is a easier way please let me know
First for me I am using to wifi cards for this however it should work over Ethernet or hell even dial-up.
1.Whatever connection you are using to connect to the web allow it to share the connection.
2.Download this app WiFiHotspot creator or if you trust me here is a link to it http://jumbofiles.com/y0l9dv3pbh5x be aware that unless you go for a advance install it wants to install alot of bloatware, nothing malicious just annoying!!!!
3. Once its installed just run it, it's very self-explanatory.
I've noticed its not very fast but it gets the job done. Also it works for everything Ive tested it with. Play, Youtube, network games.
If its any help Im running Windows 7
Thanx guys
I use connectify it gets the job done very well. I also am running the comp off of wifi and re broadcasting wifi with the same card using it

Really. i always had trouble with connectify, i could surf the web but couldnt use it to download stuff from the play store. might have to dig around the advance options some more

You beautiful beautiful man, seriously so grateful for this. You absolute lifesaver. God if I could give you a hug I would.
I wasn't able to get your file because the site was down but I downloaded the program from the authors site, start the install and AVG flipped out. After looking around a bit, it's not just me. Be careful w/ this program.
+1 for connectify.
Beamed from my Grouper
Can yoy reupload the file. It seems down!!
Thankss!!!
Yes, I know there's another thread on Parallel Kingdom/Google Currents etc, but I wanted to highlight GPS Games as the thread topic. There's a handful of GPS games (Life is Magic, PK, Ingress) for Android and it would be nice to see them working for KF/KFHD. Apparently it's possible (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EE6voRHVawY) but no one has publicly explained how to do so. Hopefully someone out of the 4 million strong XDA community can publish a guide on how to accomplish this.
There are several threads dealing of Kindle and GPS, and, as the tablet lacks satellite tracking, there are two methods that seem to work, bluetooth dongle and tethering from a phone. Both systems require some app running in the background. I've tested the bluetooth dongle method, and only a few programs don't work well. Things have changed some with the last update, but is acceptable. I will test those programs for you...
I'm working now, but I've downloaded those three games on my phone. When I get home I'll side load them and test with my bluetooth dongle....
Thx. Just downloaded ingress and surprisingly it installed properly. Waiting for activation code so hopefully it works.

Just read on Parallel Kingdom forum that someone got it working by installing Alien Droid (whatever that is)

Hey gflorez,
As you know, I'm a total noob but I'm wondering what your opinion is on this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2163135? Could it be possible to get things running without bluetooth/tethering?
First of all, as you said, Ingress loads but waits for a code, and PK doesn't installs. That leaves us Life Is Magic as the only candidate to test(from now on LIS).
The problem with those type of games is that to play them in our Kindle it needs two things that it lacks, GPS and Internet. It has a pseudo localisation by wifi, but isn't as accurate as real GPS. On the other hand it can connect to Internet easily but needs an external provider of data by wifi.
My approach has been to give it coordinates by bluetooth from my GPS dongle and to give it Internet by tethering web data by wifi from my phone. Cumbersome but it has seemed to work ..... until I've run out of phone battery.
My question is, need LIS all the accuracy of a real GPS? or, if it exceeds its entertainment purpose, is the approximate wifi localisation of Kindle enough?
If so, just having a phone capable of "wifi zone" and a data rate would be sufficient as Kindle extracts coordinates from them. It is the next test I would do when my phone is fully loaded.... But if you have a phone like that, you can do the same test just now. If you need an explanation of that tell me.
Meanwhile I will test if installing Alien Droid¿? PK can be installed.
Kinology is based on a stock rom, and has the same benefits and disadvantages as can be achieved with the plain Kindle.
---------------------------------------------------
EditK is a Jelly Bean app(the new version of Android system), so it does not install on the Kindle Fire Hd, that has ICS(a slight older but actual version of android). "Alien Droid" is a custom Jelly Bean rom made for the old Kindle Fire, incompatible with the completely different Kindle Fire Hd. Highway cut....
---------------------------------------------------
Editing the edit: PK is compatible with Android 2.1 upwards, but seems that Amazon restricts its use "due to geographical restrictions" as I, European from Spain, can see on the USA web:
http://www.amazon.com/PerBlue-Inc-Parallel-Kingdom-AOT/dp/B004UO1QNC
It is the reason that an old Kindle Fire with a custom rom(Android Jelly Bean 4.2) or my phone with android 2.3.6 can play that game as there are not that restrictions.
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20111226194127AAN3bgq
On that web, a member of PerBlue, creators of PK says: "Unfortunately Kindle Fire doesn't currently support the Google Maps API necessary to play Parallel Kingdom."
But.... I have google maps installed(courtesy by Prokennexusa) and it doesn't installs...
I'm currently testing if an installation extracted with Titanium backup can be forced inside the Kindle, but no....
Definitively Life of Magic doesn't needs very much location accuracy to be playable.... I've tested it by real GPS or by WIFI points. It only needs to be near the interaction point.
I wasn't aware that KF & HD were that much different.
Yes, I saw that post on Yahoo. However, I also read on PK forums where a PK employee has eluded that it's possible to play on KF (not sure about HD) as discussed here:
http://forum.parallelkingdom.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=20067&p=178336&hilit=kindle+fire#p178336
http://forum.parallelkingdom.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=21470&p=184356&hilit=kindle+fire#p184356
You don't need a real GPS location to play PK (I know bcuz I've played years ago and spoofed the location). If that makes any sense. Without a location spoof, you can still travel the entire world and back without ever hitting the relocate button just by getting invites.
So Life of Magic works with bluetooth dongle? What about playing it/getting it installed without additional hardware?
I'm curious as to why Ingress installs though. I imagine Ingress would be more GPS-oriented than both LIM & PK.
In the back of my mind, I think all 3 games are playable on KFHD without additional hardware...of course, I'm not even 5% as tech savvy as you are...but just a hunch, and based on the fact that I know PK is entirely playable without ever having GPS on (you just need Wifi).
Have you guys considered using 1MobileMarket?
This is a Kinology HD using XDA Premium
LIM accepts the Kindle as is, autolocating by wifi, but you need wifi then. You only can play in your house or a place that can provide internet data to your kindle, you are fixed to a place. But if you provide internet with your phone you are free and kindle can aproximatively locate you.
Im not an expert, only a little bit more expert than you, but only time.
Owning a dongle has make me me to neglect some the wifi location used by kindle, but now I can say that it needs to compare the sources of wifi near to "triangle" its position. It doesnt need to connect nor know keys of access, only interact. The problem is when your phone is the only wifi near, far from other residential wifi.
---------- Post added at 05:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:02 PM ----------
Pardon LIM.......but LIS sounds better.....
Ive sideloaded hundreds of apps on my kindle, only few have hanged, and only three not installing. One of them is PK.
Kindle has an Android highly modificated, with an incompatibility of code that refuses apps perfectly compatible with other phones or tablets. Im not a programmer , I dont know why it refuses to install.
Ya LIM does work. Odd, it didn't install before. I wonder if a ingress will work.
So u think it's impossible to play PK on kfhd?

Does anyone know how to use Wifi direct with the HTC one to transfer moderate to large files like movies or videos.( beam/bue tooth is to slow) Everytime i try to use it with any phone it fails or doesn't connect. ive also tried third party apps like super beam/ send!/file transfer/ none of which work. i find it hard to believe that the HTC one is suppose to compete with the GS4 and GS3 but cant do any features that mimic S BEAM its a fail on HTC. if anyone could help to get this to work i would appreciate it thank you
