question about our cameras on a custom ROM/cupcake/donut

ummm...
im using drizzys Blur-Hero-V1.5.7 and it works like a dream now that i finally got a class 6 sdcard...
but when i use the camera it seems like i have to be extremely still and my subjects im photographing do too or i get blurry(no pun intended)pics...
is that all across the board whether you use a custom ROM or stock?
i had my phone maybe a week or two before i rooted and started flashing so i dont remember if it was any better when it was stock...
and is there a hack/script that is out that enables better function of the camera?
i thought i read somewhere in the development forums there was a way to upgrade to a 5mega pixel camera if a certain ROM was flashed...not sure if i read correctly or just imagined it
anyone know what can/has been done or could be done?

You can't upgrade the megapixels in a camera, that's a set thing. You can download Snapphoto from the Market, that's a faster camera application.

you didn't imagine it, but it was a joke that the guy posted, and others laughed along with him in the thread.

so the best i can do is snapphoto?

CM7. Worth it?

I have had my cappy since release and have been flashing roms since. I'm some what of a techie so I have had no issue with the process and feel comfortable flashing CM7, but is it worth it. Should I wait or indulge myself? Thanks for the input.

Personally I think you should go ahead and try it. It's by far the best rom I have ever ran and don't plan to go back to other roms for a long time if at all. It just runs so smoothly and just has an overall good feel to it. As far as everything is working for me it is very stable and usable no real issues that matter after the most recent update so I absolutely love it

It's worth it to try it. Just try it and see if it fits your tastes.
And if you don't like it, it's worth it to flash back to stock
I tried it and liked it, I just know that the CM7 team is going to be pushing out bigger and better things... It's just a matter of when. So for now, I'm sticking with Cog 4.1 and a custom kernel.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'm going to give it another week and sed what else they release then I'm going for it!

Make sure you know what works and what doesn't and if that's important to you. I know HD video doesn't and that might be a minor/non issue to those who say CM7 is great and works flawlessly for them. You have to apply your own criteria because someone elses may be far different from yours.

Seems you have made it a personal crusade out of warning people of the inherent dangers of CM7. Anytime someone asks any questions there you are. I don't think I've heard anyone including myself say that the rom is flawless but I could make a long list of bugs from every rom that has ever been released for the Captivate. Hell, I remember when DG put out Cog based on the 10/10 leak and he was pushing updates almost every night to fix things.

Known Bugs
Front Facing-Camera (Obviously, as our Cappys don't have Front-Facing Cameras)
Polling problem on RIL (works after lock and unlock)
2G/3G toggle (works if no data connection is active)
Compass (works not at 100%)
USB sharing of external SD-Card
commands: reboot recovery, reboot download (maybe not possible to implement)
FM-Radio
TV-Out
If you're fine with the above, I actually think it's really stable for a Beta. It's up to you The process is a bit hard to do than a normal ROM though.

I could point you to a dozen posts where users of CM7 either downplayed the issues or claimed it was running flawlessly on their Cappy. I can also point you to as many posts of people who screwed up the install or had other issues with it. Both get pretty tiresome.
This thread is no different than asking which ROM is best and should be closed just like those are. It really is a personal preference. At the least, it should have been asked in the CM7 sticky, that's what they're here for.

Lets be fair, there have been tons of threads because someone bricked their phone flashing cognition, serendipity, etc. I have helped some that have soft bricked their phone just trying to root.
There have been hundreds of threads because of odin soft bricks.
I am on two weeks with it on my phone. the issues that exist, if you read, are all avoidable. I am not "claiming" anything other than it is more than stable enough for daily use, but it is a work in progress.
Is it worth it, yes, as long as you can read and comprehend. Treat your phone like the valuable hardware it is, and don't flash if you are unsure

I'm already a mod or admin at several other sites, including a cell phone site. They all have pretty much the same rules and expectations and about the same number of users that disregard both. Mr. Clown and Zelendel do a fine job, but the users also have a responsibility to help out when possible. There are a number of stickies in this subforum specifically for certain ROMs. They were created to help reduce the clutter and keep the forum focused. This thread should have gone there along with a number of others. If people would just take a moment to think before starting a thread, this place would run a lot smoother, especially for those who view it from their devices. Just sayin'.

[Q] HORRIBLE camcorder quality!

Hey everyone. This is only my second post here (I usually use google to solve all of my problems) but I can't figure this out for the life of me. I rooted my phone a couple months back, and flashed Cyanogenmod 6. All was well, except I noticed the camcorder's quality went from OK to dreadful. I figured "okay, maybe it's the ROM. I'll flash AOSP 0.9.9.2."..... no luck, same problem. And in AOSP, the camera app also crashes sometimes. Does anyone have an idea of what could be going wrong? Thanks in advance!

This is because the working camera driver for custom builds is a hack at best. Until one of the later patches, it would cause the camera force-close on double-tap zoom. It's mostly stable on the camera side now (although picture quality still doesn't match the stock firmware), but the camcorder size has a lot of room for improvement.
Hopefully one day someone will step up and finish the job (or one day I'll stop being lazy and do it).

actually, my phone was so slow stock i couldn't send an sms message without keyboard lag.
i'm willing to sacrifice some stability for a major increase in performance.

did u ever do the software update because it fixed that

The latest OTA updates brought bugfixes and improvements in speed. I would highly recommend revisiting the stock firmware if you haven't used the latest updates.
If you're looking to make it snappier, I would suggest the ZenKernel or even the DecaFuct kernel if you don't mind it breaking your trackball backlight.
I was serious about the stock firmware being the most stable. I'm running it myself (albeit with an overclocked kernel), and the only issue I've found with it so far is that Facebook for HTC Sense is no longer able to sync contact photos (probably due to a Facebook API change). CM7 on the Hero still has many issues to be fixed.

OK.guys I have a stock n1 running 2.3.6 but I am tired of the wifi issue my question is if I root does this fix the issue and also what are the benefits of rooting and which is the best method and rom

I haven't run stock since Froyo came out, but I haven't had any issues with my wifi, so if it is an issue with software, it doesn't seem like it exists in CyanogenMod. But as baseballfanz mentioned, it is too difficult to determine whether your issue is hardware or software. If it is software, it should be fixed. The two most popular custom ROMs are CyanogenMod and MIUI. I know CyanogenMod covers a lot of the additional features on their website, I am not sure about MIUI, but both probably include better perfomance and battery life, along with a ton of extra features.

Never had any WiFi issues myself or heard of anyone else having any with the N1. I suppose you could TRY another rom but I'm not sure if that would work. If you do I would recommend a cyanogenmod simply because theres so many people using that if anyone else has had this issue its probably been reported and solved if it was a software problem. Always worth a hot and if nothing else theres more to do with a rooted phone anyway.

There are many people reporting Wi-Fi issues on the Nexus One on a stock ROM after the 2.3.6 update. Many threads in this forum, as well as google's support forum...

Root anyway
Too many benefits and too much fun not to--
Full image backups
Better app managemet
Faster Updates
Ability to run Sense roms
Overclocking
etc
etc

If you are not rooted yet back up phone with an app like MyBackUp Pro and copy sdcard to pc
Include System Wipe as part of wiping phone before flashing new rom

Check in the Nexus One Android Development forum, or look at the Nexus One wiki, which lists more roms as well. I just went to the Development forum myself and did a search for "sense", there's multiple Sense roms in that forum.

This is the furthest I got and it doesn't even boot. It is a port from the version on the t-mobile g1, ported with the files of Scooter's gingerbread build. Give it try in logcat.
But I really don't think we got an change anymore (except when DZO comes back to develop for the kaiser), the kaiser is done, the kaiser had fallen....
The best thing you can do for face unlock is find an app in the market or something, besides I don't think the kaiser has the front facing camera to properly do face unlock. And the RAM and proc also make it very difficult to run on the kaiser....
I meant to say that the quality of the kaiser's camera probably not sufficient to pull off a proper and reliable face unlock: So I am sorry if you misunderstood!

Of course it has front camera, but it doesn't work in Android .

Oh. Well, in that case, I guess I'll just stick to Gingerbread.
There's really nothing else that interests me in 4.0

Not to mention the rear camera doesn't even work in Gingerbread.
I'd suggest (no flames please) that you purchase an Android phone that meets the hardware requirements needed for ICS which, unless the carrier force-uploads an update or you manually update the OS, you'll have to research and possibly compile yourself.

I'd rather just stay with an out-of-date phone than spend hours looking for my new "perfect" phone that I'll be proud of.
