Sending phone to HTC....or so I thought... - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So my trusty M7 decided to go rogue on me and now decides to smother my night and dark camera shots with a purple tint
I decided to hit up HTC Live Chat and the guy said the usual "If its in warranty bla bla bla". Since I don't know whether its in warranty I asked the guy if he could find out for me. The following conversation ensued:
{

"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",

}
Now my question is, will relocking the bootloader make me eligible for warranty? Because by saying "Broken" i'm assuming he means it was unlocked.
Any ideas and help will be appreciated. Thanks

A ***relocked*** bootloader (as oposed to ***locked***) will not give you back you warranty. Only if you set it back to ***locked*** (not ***relocked***) and this require s-off. As for the date of unlocking he refers to, i'm assuming its only the date when you have requested an unlock_code.bin from htcdev.com. In theory they can't prove that you have used the code even if you have requested one. So it might be possible to recover your warranty if you can set back the bootloader to locked (not re-locked) ---> need s-off.

I see! Thanks for that piece of info. And yes I am S-OFF.
I'm assuming the "how to go back to stock guide" shows how to get locked bootloader, correct?

very interesting conversation... did that guy actually look up whether you unlocked bootloader using htcdev
so if someone went into a pharmacy and bought a box of con*oms, then this guy is assuming they will be used
or are you using HTCSync, cause that seems to "send home" that information
in either case, setting your phone back to 100% stock (ie LOCKED, no tampered, stock ROM and firmware), should get you warranty (provided you are within the period )
and although vague (as usual), the HTCDev bootloader unlock says it "....may void warranty...."
I also noticed that you are in the UK, and i've seen plenty of posts with the purple tint (and other hardware) issue being fixed, even with unlocked bootloader, s-off, and running a custom rom
so don't let them get away from trying to back out on fixing the thing the M7 is most well known for, the purple tinted camera
just my two cents

In that case I'll just run an RUU and send it off and hope for the best
Oh and no I've never used HTCSync...it's too cumbersome....
Thanks guys.

in a nutshell:
1- remove TAMPERED
2- set LOCKED (not relocked)
3- run/flash RUU
4- [optional; once you've confirmed everything is good <- and please make sure it is] set S-ON
you can check my guide for more detailed information

the Customer Service of htc confirmed some of IS sold in Taiwan is original S-off.
i've mentioned that in the rooting thread, no help for rooting process.

Boot into the bootloader.. at the top of the screen you see either S-ON or S-OFF.
You get in there by shutting down your phone completely (disable the option in settings/power that allows this new instant boot), or take out your battery.
Then, but only when it's completely off (takes some time for the display to completely turn black), press and hold vol down and press power button (while still pressing vol down)
BTW: this doesn't work for me when I have the usb cable connected..
Nooooo ... Im s-on too :'(
Too bad ... Bootloaders have changed a lot since the winmo days ... I like it

You would prefer a (in my opinion) inferior phone in terms of build quality, storage space (320mb to 1.1gb for the incs) and ram (512 to 768 for the incs) just because sony promised they would crack the bootloader for you? Just have a little patience and wait for this great team to get s-off for this great phone! ;D

OK, come on, do not expect that CS can understand what are you talking about
Stock bootloader is s-on, and checks for signatures on boot and recovery images.

no need to be sad you can still unlock bootloader and do everything you want except S-OFF as of now. Only if you are from verizon you are doomed. So head to HTCDEV unlock bootloader use hasoon toolkit for easy bootloader unlocking. flash twrp recovery. Download any custom rom you like and welcome. But keep in mind unlocking bootloader wipes complete 32gb storage so anything important must be backed up below is link for toolkit

it can void your warranty it usually always does if you report a issue with the device HTC will go "our records show you have unlocked the bootoader" and yea they pretty much refuse to fix your device. id wait till revone works on the latest hboot. can unlock without need to unlock via htc dev ^^
best of luck id go crazy having a android phone i couldnt flash ROM's on XD

Broken Xperia Z MODEM - Can browse but cannot call or text

I have an Xperia Z C6616 (Bell PentaBand LTE model)
For the longest time I was running a generic UK C6606 ROM on it with no problems.
Recently I went to sell it so I flashed the stock Bell ROM again.
Unfortunately after this flash something seems to have gone haywire.
Everything works fine except for calls and texting.
I can even browse the internet using H+ but I cannot complete a call.
It tells me that it is connected to the Home network but yet it shows me the notification of 'Selected Network Unavailable'
Here is what I have tried so far:
Reflashing generic UK ROM
Reflashing Bell 4.2.2 ROM
Reflashing Bell 4.3 ROM
Returning to stock via Sony PC Companion using 'Repair my phone'
Nothing seems to have worked. I still cannot make phone calls or send/receive texts.
It tells me that the 'Mobile network not available' whenever I attempt to make a call.
What have I done?
Is this recoverable? What else can I try?

Bump. Please help.
Bell won't honor warranty because I dont have an account with them.
And they told me that even if I did...
Because I unlocked the phone, I have voided my warranty.
Wtftftf?
I just have $350 paper weight now.
TL;DR reply: No!
Standard reply: The 6616 is a North American carrier-specific handset, in your case, Bell . The bootloader status of your phone must have been LOCKED, with Bell specific bloat pre-loaded with your ROM. If you've flashed GB 6603 ROM, then you have got the bootloader unlocked (whether by Bell unlock code or from any other paid service). The phone was sold subsidised by the carrier with a precondition that you/the original owner accepts a two year locked-in period with Bell (contract phone). Unlocking the bootloader simply voids your warranty or any hopes of getting a replacement/refund/service from Bell. The best option for you is to obtain paid service from Sony, (dunno if that may work or not). My sympathies.....

So firstly, thanks for the reply. Appreciate it.
I'm not too concerned with the warranty refusal from Bell. I'm working to do something about it.
I have NOT unlocked the Bootloader. I have only loaded Official Sony ROMS which do NOT require a locked bootloader.
This phone does not let you unlock the bootloader.
I just did the network unlock which they said also voided the warranty.
My main concern is whether I can try something to fix this.
If there is a HARD reset or something.
Is there anything from my side that I can try?
In terms of rooting the phone or looking at some diagnostic tool or loading some other official Rom?
Thanks once again for the reply.

[Q] I need Help Rooting My Device

I'm currently new to all these rooting stuff. I check everywhere online but I couldnt find how to root my Sony Xperia Z
Model: C6606
Android Version: 4.2.2
Build Number: 10.3.1.E.0.191
Can anyone figure this out? I want to root my device to map controller for games.
If anything I'll downgrade if it's not available
Try Root many Android.
Method 0 (cubeundcube method) should work for you.

LOL. What a rude individual you are.
Protip - When asking for assistance, good manners are a must. You can apply that both here and in your daily life.
1. See post #26 of this thread.
You will see that it successfully roots the firmware that you have. You will also see from the first post of the thread that the exploit was created by cubeundcube.
2. The tool I originally linked to contains the same exploit by cubeundcube, without the need to manually set the path to adb for it to work. I specifically linked the easier to use tool, as if you're unable to find these things by yourself with a Google search, you obviously need the simplest method possible.
So, to sum up, if I say it WILL work, you will try it? I said "should" because I own an international unbranded, unlocked Z (C6603), not a crippled carrier branded variant, so I cannot say 100% that it will work.
Try it if you want. If not, good luck with your unrooted phone.
In future, if I see any more requests for help from you, I'll be sure to stay clear, lest I do not meet your exacting standards.
Cheers.

we dont need anymore stupid questions in the general question.
and plus you can easily search for a thread and i guarantee if you have a fully functioning brain you can find it within 30 seconds.
"Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting
For all your questions about the Xperia Z"
QUESTIONS GO IN THAT SECTION FFS
If you have a 6606, then you are in North America, (Canada / US). Please check if your bootloader status is locked or not. You probably need to unlock your bootloader first from your wireless provider first.
And I agree with the others, you're rude, brash, you disregard advice and need to search/check b4 posting.......
Dead Cookies leave no trails...
@spazzy1912
He posted there as well, I just saw this one first. Instead of just telling him to post in the correct place, I thought I would be nice and give him what he wanted.
I won't make that mistake again.
@Cookie Ninja
The C6606 bootloader is permanently locked. There is no way to unlock it and neither Sony or T-Mobile will help.
Sony will blame T-Mobile for requesting that their branded variant has a non-unlockable bootloader and T-Mobile don't have the means to change it.

If i understand correctly, this phone was converted to a Google play edition and you want it back to its original firmware and software? Original CID number and MID number are stored in partition mmcblk0p6.
You can pull mmcblk0p6 using an adb shell if you have root or if you have a custom recovery installed like twrp. Let me know if you have root or if you have a custom recovery and I'll explain you how to proceed.
You will also need s-off to change your cid and mid before running the ruu, if any avaiblabe for your original CID/MID

Just helped someone in a similar situation, this problem doesn't seem so bad for genuine GPE. If the Rom is still booting at least.
HTC dev doesn't work on GPE bootloaders anyway as far as I'm aware. You should use the command "fastboot oem unlock"
But in the above mentioned case that didn't work either. Sunshine app unlocked it and gave s-off though. So if it's locked with s-on but your able to boot your Rom I suggest getting Sunshine app to unlock and s-off before your completely FUBAR.
