Install JB Retail EU for OTA KK update? - RAZR i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
New to all this and my phone is now past-it enough that I am willing to start tinkering!
I have read through the forums to try and understand what I need to do, can I just check this is somewhere along the right lines:
I want to trigger the Kitkat update, but am on the stock Orange GB Jellybean rom/firmware.
I *think* I need to use RSD to flash a Retail EU JB firmware onto my phone, which will then pick up the OTA Kitkat update? Is that right? I know there are other ways to load Kitkat but they are more involved/more subject to bricking my phone etc?
Edit: above works after bit more researching! End.

[Q] Flashing pre and post camera

Well I have had a problem that I can't get to kitkat using the OTA because I have a modified system with root. I also can't flash back to stock because the only stock image that is available is from before the camera update, so if I flash it I will brick my cellphone. From what I understand this doesn't leave me with any options at the moment. I am on Claro Chile(139.12.35.ghost_row.AmericaMovil.en.CL) currently but the only firmware available is 139.7.26.ghost_row.AmericaMovil.en.CL which is pre camera...
I wanted to be clear on what things would brick my phone for sure, that way I don't do them. First of all is it the bootloader or the system image that causes it to brick? If it's the bootloader, would I be able to just flash the system image by itself then do the OTA to get me to kitkat? Or is the camera file that is in the system image the problem? If so is it possible to modify the system image to update just the camera file then flash it then do the update to kitkat? Am I able to flash another rom from another carrier such as "Claro Brazil" or "Claro Puerto Rico" since they have the same system version as my phone(139.12.35.ghost_row.America.Movil.en)? Or would that brick it?
Or if any android or moto x gurus have any other ideas on how I can get to kitkat I am open to suggestions and ideas.

There is a poster who created an unofficial fxz for verizon 4.4.2 from another poster's stock phone running 4.4.2. You might want to ask him how he did it and if you know someone who has a stock 4.4.2 claro chile you may be able to do it. Here is the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/development/xt1060-164-55-2-unofficial-fxz-unlocked-t2659682
Once the official sbf firmware came out he edited his OP to remove his unofficial fxz. I don't know how he does it, but he may be able to tell you how. That would get you to 4.4.2.

No, it will not update directly. All OTAs are "incremental updates"..... e.g. you must be on 4.2.2 to accept the "camera update", you must have the "camera update" to take the OTA to 4.4, and you must be on 4.4 to take the OTA to 4.4.2, etc.
If you want to go straight to 4.4.4, it is possible, but only when the ENTIRE stock SBF is made available. When it is available, you will find it here:
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=0
You will follow the instructions in the "Return to Stock" thread to flash an entire stock SBF file.
As long as your bootloader is unlocked, you should have no issues rooting once on 4.4.4 (whenever it gets released).
Good Luck
Also note that unlike OTAs, SBFing will erase ALL of your data (equivalent of a factory reset).

There is no leaked 4.4.4 full SBF yet. In a couple weeks, maybe a month it will probably be released.
As long as you never downgraded from a higher version to the german 4.4.2, you can take the OTA without risk. You will need stock Recovery, no Xposed, and no significant modifications made to /system.
Assuming you are full stock and haven't made modifications, the OTA should install without issue.
We will need more details to properly advise you.

If you used RSDLite and fully flashed the SBF to your phone, or used mfastboot and flashed ALL PARTS to your phone, you are safe to take whatever 4.4.4 OTA is pushed to you.
If you only flashed "parts" and have mixed versions (system.img from one rom, no-hols.bin from another, etc), then you need to be careful.. or if you have one version on your phone and try to downgrade it to a lower version.
As @samwathegreat said, there is no leak of a 4.4.4 SBF yet, (well the Verizon one has but we would not recommend flashing it on anything but a Verizon XT1060 phone)
The guys that maintain http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=0 do a great job FINDING the full SBF files, and posting them as soon as they get their hands on them. But since that site isn't owned, operated or supported by Moto, we have no way of knowing how long it will take for the SBF's to show up.

If you have flashed modem files from a different rom than the rest of your phone, any OTA will likely fail its pre-validation checks.
Mixing parts of two different roms isn't advised. Taking updates can fail, brick your phone, or cause other unexpected results.
Sure, there are one or two who say they've done it and are "fine" but we've seen enough posts to know the next OTA, next time they flash, they will likely encounter issues.
My advice. stay with what you have, and wait for the 4.4.4 SBF for the model/carrier you have, and fully flash it. It is the SAFEST way to go.

@KidJoe:
my position is to have flashed in manual ALL PART of SBF 4.4.2 en.DE
Need only to reflash the modem from 4.4.2 TMOBILE because the gsm phone doesn't work (no signal)
so I don't make any mix with more roms. only stock en.De (all parts) and the modem from tmobile.
I received the ota update for 4.4.4 retail en.DE ...
do you think it's safe to install, or as you said, await the full firmware 4.4.4 SBF ?
do you know where, eventualy, I can find tmobile modem 4.4.4 to flash ?
if can't find the 4.4.4, the 4.4.2 tmobile modem (that now I use with success ) do you think is good or not to works in 4.4.4 firmware en.DE ?
thanks again

flash again the 4.4.2 but this time with RSD LITE.
follow this tutorial

Hello,
I have the same problem. I bought a US Moto X Dev Ed. and flashed the german retail with the instructions from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/development/update-xt1058-to-android-4-4-2-uk-t2628381
Is it right that I should not accept the OTA because I deleted the modem lines?

[Q] Updating DIRECTLY from 4.2.2 to 4.4.3 (Unlocked+Rooted)

So here's the deal, I unlocked my T-Mobile Moto X bootloader through Motorola's website about a year ago or so. I also rooted and didn't bother updating afterwards to anything since I had everything working perfectly for me. Now I need to update my 4.2.2 Moto X to 4.4.3 (or really anything >=4.3 just so I can use my Moto 360 that'll be arriving soon).
My question is, with an unlocked bootloader, rooted, TWRP 2.6.3.1, Xposed-installed Moto X, can I go ahead and flash a stock 4.4.3 ROM (for example from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/development/rom-stock-flashable-t-mobile-t2773675) and just call it a day?
I've been reading past threads and stuff to get back into the loop, but I just can'f find anything to answer me the simple question of updating an unlocked+rooted 4.2.2->4.4+ while keeping root. Just the simple question of, if I get a stock 4.4 image and flash it on my phone, will everything be okay?
I no longer have the passion and interest to constantly be fiddling with kernels, ROMs, and little hacks with my phone like I used to with my OG Droid and, to a lesser extent, with my Galaxy Nexus (plus I feel like it's gotten significantly less easy since those OG days).
I know (i.e. 90% sure) that one way to do what I want (kinda) is RSDLite/manually go back to stock without root on 4.2.2 and then accept the OTA, but certainly it has to be easier than that right? What happened to the days where I can just find a new Gingerbread ROM for my Froyo Droid and just flash it right then and there? Now everything is "go back to stock and do these convoluted steps."
(I'm sorry I'm ranting, I'm just really tired at the moment haha)
Thank you all, hopefully, for the help!
If you don't care about retaining your data, grab the 4.4.3 fxz and unzip it. Follow the directions for returning back to stock here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/ref-complete-moto-x-guides-information-t2603358 but replace the files to be flashed with the files from the 4.4.3 fxz. Not sure where you got the idea that you need to go back to stock. Word of caution, once on 4.4.3 there's no going back to an older version.
I have the same question as the OP, on unlocked rooted 4.2.2 ATT Moto X, can i flash a custom 4.4.4 and keep root?

You can take the ota but you need the stock recovery. Since you are unlocked you will not lose your unlocked-ness(lol) if you take an ota. But you do need to be completely stock: no su, no custom recovery, etc etc. But once you upgrade to 4.4.3 getting root back is as simple as flashing the appropriate version recovery again and then flashing supersu.

Yeah that would work as long as your radio is compatible with the rom. The rom you shared earlier should be fine. Just don't downgrade to anything pre 4.4 as that can cause issues because of partition sizes (or so I've heard). But after that I wouldn't take any OTA's cause your bootloader would be incompatible with the OTA and possibly cause a brick. If I were you I'd revert to stock and take the long way to 4.4.3 just so I can get the OTA for when Android L comes out. In fact thats what I plan on doing if the Sunshine bootloader unlock is successful. But if you don't care about that then everything should be fine.

Downgrade from kitkat

Has anyone tried downgrading? Does it work? If you downgrade then take the ota again, does it brick?
I am thinking about flashing the EU firmware then upgrading to kitkat, but want to be sure if I can downgrade since I would like to later install the firmware from Chile instead of EU.

The only thing that can get you into trouble is the gpt.bin. And maybe it doesn't even get u into trouble. The gpt.bin was the only one that got flashed in the update.zip that can break the phone afaik.
So downgrading to JB should be possible. But for the safety, remove the gpt.bin. If u can get the chili ota after it i don't know.
Off course this is at your own risk
