Hi Guys,
I stupidly did not realise my device (XT1072) was a different slightly different model to the moto g 2014.
I unlocked the bootloader and installed TWRP, then tried to install Cyanogenmod 12.1, this failed giving an error "Error executing updater binary in zip" Which I guess is due to it being a different model, right? After receiving this error I did some googling and found on a few sites that I should wipe data, system, cache & dalvik cache to resolve this. I did this and tried to flash it again, with the same error. Now my phone is stuck on the "warning bootloader unlocked screen" I can boot into fastboot mode, but is there any official Motorola images for my device anywhere? I have had a look online and cant find anything. :crying:
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Format system is completely wipe previous android version,
You need a custom ROM (I'm assuming you have custom recovery for your device model)
Or fastboot a original image for you're device

Hi,
Thank you for your reply. I also tried with CWM_Touch_Titan_v2 recovery image. But when I tried to flash the stock rom RETGBALL_XT1072_5.0.2_LXB22.46-28_cid7_subsidy-DEFAULT_CFC.xml using mfastboot method, it shows on the phone screen "image too large".
As you have faced the same problem, would you be kind enough to give a step by step instruction to solve the issue. My phone is just stuck to unlocked bootloader warning screen for days.
My phone is Moto g XT1072 4G LTE.
Your help could save my days...
Thanks.

Why are u flashing an xml file? XML files are not rom files
The link provided above by mic_he has step by step instructions to restore phone back to stock
Your phone is not bricked. You deleted your system so there is no os to boot. The link should restore you back to stock

Thank you,
I have tried those instruction earlier. when I enter "mfastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img" is says "Bootloader preflash validation failed" and when I enter "mfastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0" onthe phone screen is says "Image too large". After going through all the steps when I reboot, it does not ever get past unlocked bootloader warning screen.
I really do not know which other option to try??

Unmounting system before flashing usually stops that problem. What I like to do is wipe data, system, cache & dalvik then reboot to recovery before flashing the rom.

could you solve the problem with the XT1072?
hello sir! could you solve the problem with thw XT1072? Can you give me some instructions? cheers
It works!!!!! I could restore my system back with these steps!
Here´s the info
http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...e-restore-moto-e-2015-stock-firmware-t3054303
I followed the steps and when I was triyng to Flash each of the partitions in sequence using mfastboot get an error
I get an error with one of the files, (don´t remember now but I think was with the mfastboot flash logo logo.bin line
This give me an error, try to fix it and i couldn´t so I continue with the other files in the order listed and when the process was finished the phone was working again!!!!
Enter twrp recovery
Wipe system data cache dalvik
Put any rom like cm in microsd card or usb
And flash it using twrp

Hi, I have facing this problem too on my XT1063. My phone do boot to system but all the app are getting FCs, so I decided to flash another ROM like usual and All of this give me that "Error executing updater binary in zip", so I trie to wipe AND format all partition from TWRP and FASTBOOT with no success. Via Fastboot says: "File system type raw not supported." So I cant change to a new ROM, I cannot even flash other recovery....
So if you guys find a solution of this problem very users like me will be very thankful.

thats correct these are via ADB mfastboot (which ignores OTA fingerprint check) as flashes full firmware, not the ota.zip which is only a smaller (not full firmware) update
ota.zip is NOT full firmware, so will not fix a corrupted / altered or non stock firmware
but you say you've flashed many roms.... you need to be on correct rom and matching recovery and also un-rooted to flash a OTA.zip as it checks Recovery version and the build fingerprint inside /system folder of original stock rom. if any of these mismatch it will fail.
also (apologies if wrong) but dont you believe your phone to be corrupted or read only hence why you cant flash images?

Phone wont boot, its gets to the point where a blue m apears the goes to a blank screen, when flahing a rom via fasboot, all seems to get right but after restart is like nothing happened, i go back to the same state, same thing happens with twrp or philz, if you want to help, we can continue here but your more then wellcome to read this (nevermind i see you allready did)
So let me make a backup of twrp and see if i can post results, thanks allot, iveen waiting to fix this for so many days now.
A bit of background, i consider myself an advance user, someone that can google problems and fix stuff with it, ivee flashed alot of cellphones in the past ,many xt1064 and other models, just like everybody ealse, easy and no problems, but this one i just cant figure out. Seems like its on read only mode or freezed as a deepfreezed computer, dont mater how many roms i flash and the way i do, everything comes back to the same state, even if i reforma partitions, eeven if i delete pictures or folders, they come back once i reboot.
Its going to take 5hrs to upload my backup

ok ii'm thinking corrupted partitions too.... but if you are willing to try i've made a xt1063 easy installer script for you to try now normally i work on xt1068 and would test on my xt1068 - so have NO xt1063 its UNTESTED - use at own risk.....
just stock firmware / drivers / adb and mfastboot ( same as my xt1068 script) I see no reason it should not be compatible.
download to pc / unzip to folder / read instruction inside
https://mega.co.nz/#!Tok2DJ6T!ggMoQDfAzuA7cmQQjbGCbXolWZTnx_567vG02CiURVsxt1063 4.4.4 easy installer
I repeat it YOUR choice - if it works- great - if runs ok but rom remains same would suggest somethings corrupt - if it doesnt work at all back to square 1....
now im presuming your boot loader is unlocked, as will fail if locked or relocked - if you use and get error please report what they are, i would have done 5.0.2 but its only 50% downloaded with a 1 hr+ to still go, estimate 2 hrs from time of this post until I can post a link
im uploading the backup, in the mean time i dont know if this is of any use ,its the recovery log zipped...

I tried your easy install tool, brand new drivers, diferent usb port, all went smooth but after restart, im at the same situation. Funny thing, and ivee done this multiple times, after reflashing a new rom, most of them never give errors, then after nothing happens , i flash twrp and boot it, and all the files (the original ones , not the just flashed ones) are there intact, even pictures and music.

Yeah i tried those erase commands many many times and same result, i cant replace recovery at all, only boot of it, so when i do " mfastbooot flash recovery twrprecovery.img " then try to boot of recovery, i boot into factory recovery not, twrp, but if i do, "mfasboot boot twrprecovery.img" i can see the recovery img gets flashed and the phone boots of twrp. Weird behavior. So when i notice that i tried to flash a rom with mfastboot, and at the end i gave the command mfasboot boot recovery.img (the original rom recovery) then it gets flashed, and phone reboots, but i gets stuck at the motorola logo. This phone its playing hard to get....
heres, my backup https://mega.co.nz/#!md0AwbLR!uWe9PLklIugOziPLV6O_plbU-Zz9EXbqRvUVpYxECk0 hope you can find something.
Im going to take this phone to a shop to see if they can fix it as i have lost all hope, thanks refuuge for your help.
Hi everybody,
A few days ago, I rooted my Mexican XT1225. I shut it down for a day (my main cellphone is the new Moto X), turn it on again and now it's stuck on fastboot.
I could boot into TWRP (by flashing it temporarily with fastboot on Linux) and then I decided to wipe data and then install the new lollipop zip file. But it failed saying it could not mount /system /data or anything really, I basically have it without format, all partitions say 0MB.
So I tried flashing with fastboot, but it gave me an error when flashing the partition gpt.bin, it didn't give me an error when flashing other files. Still stuck, now I cannot even access the recovery menu, it goes just into fastboot mode and does not show the little recovery menu anymore.
Then I tried flashing with RSD, still same problem. It fails when setting the fb_mode_set and when I delete that line from the xml it fails again on flashing gpt.bin
EDIT: I am attaching a log file of TWRP evidencing this.
Any ideas on how to get back to normal? How can I redo the partition in another way?
Thanks in advance,
Gustavo

I have the xml.zip file, extracted it and manually flashed partition by partition. Something I have previously done with my 1st gen Moto X, my Razr HD and even my Atrix, if I remember correctlly. Even RSD Lite should work with those files.
Still, I will try to boot with the stock recovery, since right now I cannot access it. I will also seek a way to get the xml.zip file inside the storage, since I cannot even mount it with TWRP (It shows 0mb drive)

Just flash mexico firmware then the OTA zip on stock recovery and you will be good to go.
If you can't access recovery press vol- and power with the phone turned off and you'll be able to select recovery
Hi,
I have tried the vol+power and cannot access recovery.
When I try to flash Mexico's firmware (through either RSD or manually in Linux using fastboot), I am unable to flash partition gpt.bin, but I can flash everything else. Yet, in spite of flashing everything else, I cannot get out of the fastboot loop.
I am attaching some photos of what happens. The first one is the only thing that boots, cannot access recovery, cannot boot normally. The second photo is what happens when I press the volume button many times.
So when you select recovery does it power off or just go back to fastboot again?

Hi, I dan only go yo fastboot. The menú does not appear. The only thing that appears is the photo of my previous post.
I can boot into TWRP by manually doing fastboot boot twr-recovery.IMG
Hmmm, doesn't look good. The fastboot screen doesn't even load the picture of the green Android. I am thinking the partition table is messed up. I know I saw something similar with the original(2013) Moto X a while back. You may want to do some searching in that forum.

Hola Steve,
Indeed, it looks like the partition table is messed up, I will look for that Moto X thread.
@Jaocagomez I have tried that, but it fails with gpt.bin partition flash and even after flashing everything else (RSD, fastboot or TWRP) it does not work.
After reading quite a lot on the Internet, it seems that my problem happened to some Moto G and Moto X users. Seems to be that I am trying to flash a gpt.bin that is older than the one already in my phone. I will try again when the Mexican Lollipop image is released in xml.zip format.
In the mean time, I will continue to search for solutions.
Hi
I think I have the same issue.
I have XT1225 bought it from Amazon (I asked the company and they said Puerto Rico origin) factory unlocked. had 4.4.4 and tried to upgrade to 5.0.2. Here is what I exactly did:
devices not rooted, locked bootloader
downloaded RSD Lite
downloaded the official 5.0.2 India Firmware
tried to flash it using RSD
got an error in flashing boot from RSD
I tried to do it again and I get the same issue, I tried to flash the Puerto Rico 4.4.4 and it didnt work (it get stuck in partition gpt) and my device is dead. I tried to unlock the bootloader using the code from motorola and it says allow oem unlock from developer menu
tried doing it manually using mfastboot with both 5.0.2 and 4.4.4 and still didnt work.
please let me know if you managed to fox your problem or if anyone can help us get back our devices

Ok fixed, after 20 or 30 tries I was able to enter recovery Thx!
Hello, I'm new to these forums and have come to them under some unfortunate circumstances.
I went to update my device (MOTO G 2014) and had an error (cant remember what it said), anyway I rebooted my device and it wouldnt load after the 'BOOT LOADER UNLOCKED' warning screen. I went into TWRP and went to reset my device and wiped the system. (feel like an idiot, then again I am..) So then I downloaded all the USB drivers and Android SDK along with adb+fastboot and attempted to sideload. during the sideload I got this error..
* failed to write data 'protocol fault (couldn't read status): Invalid argument' *
EDIT: the error is no showing up at * failed to write data 'protocol fault (no status)
I have swapped USB ports and tried a different USB cable, does anybody have any tips or do I have a paperweight on my hands?
Thanks in advance
Flash stock firmware.

If I understand, right now you have wiped system, and bootloop in Motorola logo.
If you can boot in recovery, then transfer a ROM to an microsd and flash from there.
UPDATE: managed to put 3 ROMs onto my sdcard but only one of them actually allows me to install it, but after I install it I am stuck at the boot screen, guessing I got the wrong ROM for my model, cm doesn't flash, it just says 'Failed!' and so does the most recent one from the website previously linked. Any tips? Model is XT1072. I have been sat at the boot screen for around 15-20 minutes, is it taking so long because of me clearing the dalvik cache?

Thanks for your help and thank you to everyone else who replied to the thread. To anybody else who will maybe see this thread and who are stuck with the same errors, I fixed this by simply flashing the latest recovery using 'fastboot flash recovery [NameOfRecovery].img' then proceeded to install the ROM compatible with my device which I downloaded to my external SD Card.
Again, thanks

I never had to mount those partitions when installing that ROM when I bricked mine. I just wiped all caches and installed from zip. Are you doing this?

I'm a idiot http://forum.xda-developers.com/memo-pad-7/general/5-0-brick-solution-asus-memo-pad-7-t3134814,
I didn't read this "This package is for "K013" devices; this is a "K013_1"." I was bricked for a week because of a random device "name change?" Well here are the steps I took to make a flashable lollipop that wouldnt brick me. What you are doing here is telling the script that does the update that it does not need to verify your tablet model since it is wrong anyways.
Now i follow the steps and my tablet is boot, i'm waiting.
EDIT: Still bricked, now i can enter in fastboot mode but when i power on the tablet, after the logo, the screen is black
I have the same problem and can't find any solution yet :crying::crying:

try to format all partitions and shutdown, then boot into bootloader and load temp recovery and reflash .33 then boot android normally if still doesnt work, then reinstall once more but without wiping any partitions, if it decides to boot to bootanimation but its stuck there you need to simply make a reboot and then it should boot.

Hello everyone,
I tried to flash TWRP on my Z3 play today and got stuck on the TWRP logo screen. Since I am a noob, i will try to give a detailed describtion of what i have done so far.
I started by going into debuggingn mode and unlocking to bootloader following the guide unlock-bootloader-moto-z3-play from getdroidtips
This worked as far as i can tell. Today I wanted to get TWRP running as this seemed like the next step to take. Again i followed the getdroidtips guide twrp-recovery-moto-z3-play/ which linkes to flash-twrp-recovery-android. Here I didnt install Odin and Android Kies, because these seem to be Samsung-specific? I followed all other steps and arrived at the command line "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" which didnt work, but gave the error message "invalid partition name recovery". After googling a bit I found that "fastboot boot recovery.img" should boot TWRP and that I could procced from there. At first it looked as if TWRP would actually boot, but then it got stuck in the logo screen and is sitting at that for an hour now.
Did I brick my phone? And can I fix this somehow?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Just like the Google search you used, there's a search here on XDA. Your problem has been addressed many times.
Instead of creating a new Topic/thread, ideally you could've and should've first searched the TWRP Z3 thread. Then asked questions about TWRP in The TWRP thread.

Did you find the solution?
hint: 3.3.1.0
Okay, I am an idiot.
Thanks to your hint I figured out that I had to use TWRP 3.3.1.0 to not get stuck. This worked, but I accidentaly flashed TWRP to boot instead of recovery.
When i tried to flash to recovery i got: "Invalid partition name recovery"
What can I do now?

That's not an accident, that's a mistake!
I'm sure there are a number of things you can do. But messing with Boot partition is the best way to brick your phone.
have you tried to use LMSA to start over.
or
Boot TWRP, use one of the backups you made. Restoring boot?
or
ADB flash boot, from firmware sideload folder.
I used LMSA to go back to stock android. Now it boots normal again.
Okay, so how do I get TWRP to work? I am hestitant to try on my own again.
Last time i tried to flash twrp to recovery i got a "invalid partition name recovery" error message.

Do you just try things without any research? have you not considered reading the very short thread associated with TWRP and this device?
That's the correct place to both look for your answers, and ask for clarification.
