Hello,
So I just received my unlocked Galaxy S6 Edge through Verizon Iconic. I'm still waiting for my nano sim card from NET10, and currently the phone is not registered on a network. I'm trying to update my phone to 5.1, but I always receive this message "software update is temporarily unavailable. Try again later" is this message is appearing because I'm not registered on a network, or because I'm not on Verizon Wireless network? is there any way to update the phone without OTA? like ODIN for example? Please help, I'm really loving the phone and I don't want to return it!
Thanks!
II've got the same problem ...

Unless I'm missing something no s6 has received an upgrade to 5.1 yet. I'm on 5.0.2. And I have had an edge since day 1.

Again, no update has come to Verizon yet. You might be thinking of the T-mo update. All Verizon devices are on the same software without any changes so far.

Other carriers have released some updates, but verizon has not. So there are no updates for Verizon S6 phones to install. Period.
And, no, you can't manually install the updates released from other carriers.
Got it.. But do you think that I'll be able to update my phone even if I'm not of Verizon network? I'll be using net10 instead
Unlikely.

No. If you go on airplane mode it tells you to connect to the network to get updates or something like that. I've tried it for others in the past lol.

I have an S6 edge and a Note 4. I can only System Update via OTA the one phone that is connected to the network. Otherwise use Kies. That works if your off network.
There are no updates yet for the Verizon S6's.
Solution
Many people have been reporting the error where the Galaxy S6 from Verizon won't update. Usually it will give the error message "Software update is temporarily unavailable. Try again later." How to Manual/Force Update Samsung Galaxy S6 Verizon-screenshot_2015-11-29-14-34-16-1-.jpg This is shown using the G920V using T-Mobile Service. It will stay like this forever(at least in my case). To manually update your phone, connect it to your computer( windows preferably). Open up this pc, and double click CD DRIVE VERIZON MOBILE. Then at the bottom right of your screen there will be a series of prompts accept and install the drivers and software that it offers. If not using Verizon SIM remove the SIM until after updateRemove the sim BEFORE opening Upgrade Assistant When done press the start screen and search Verizon Wireless, press Verizon Wireless Software Upgrade Assistant(ar). Select the Galaxy S6 and press Upgrade SAMSUNG Galaxy S6. Then the upgrade proccess will begin. When it has finished it will restart and boot up with a alternate android logo. It will say "Erasing..." DO NOT FREAK OUT IT IS NOT ACTUALLY ERASING ANYTHING. Then it will come to a screen that says "Optimizing app # out of #". When this has finished it will boot up and the device will be updated. Enjoy!

Yes it worked for me and now I have marshmallow 6.0 on my galaxy s6 verizon. I am guessing that you can do the same for other carriers
How to get OS upgrades on unlocked Verizon phone now that I use AT&T - Finally figured it out reading posts, and trial and error process. FOR WINDOWS: 1. Download Verizon Wireless Software Upgrade Assistant on your computer. 2. Connect your Samsung S6 Edge Plus to the computer via USB. 3. Open the Window tiles (lower left hand corner) and find the newly downloaded Verizon Software, Left click (if it does not show up automatically) Verizon Wireless Software Upgrade. 4. A Verizon window with Welcome will show up, once this window is up. 5. Take the AT&T SIM card out (or any SIM card that you may have in the phone. 6. On your device, go to settings and press System Upgrade. The downloads will begin. Keep in mind that these can take close to an hour, so have your computer and phone fully charged.

Did u figure this out? There's no way the phone can b deactivated? Makes no sense. Unless your straight talk month service ran out.
WOW guys
here's the scenario.
i have the at&t s4 i337 with ST (straight talk sim)
my wife has the at&t s5 g900a with ST (straight talk sim)
both rooted stock 4.4.2 and titanium pro BOTH WITH at&t software update, Knox, lookout ALL FROZEN/DISABLED
been having issues with my S4 so I took my ST sim out and put in my wife's S5 to test my sim card.
all of the sudden device management arrows /at&t software update shows up in the bar on my Wifes S5
immediately the s5 became completely disabled to any network capability.
checked apn settingsetc etc. the s5 was COMPLETELY dead to any network.
5 hours on phone back n forth with ST and AT&T they blamed each other for my issue (saying the other was blocking the service)
Come to find out, the S4 ive been using for over a year, that i bought on ebay has a BAD IMEI! (never thought to check)
Bottom line, for some reason when i put the ST sim from my phone (bad imei-s4) into her S5 it triggered some sort of update that shut off network communication on the S5. EVEN THOUGH I HAVE AT&T Software update disabled on the S5!!!!
SOLVED
Unfortunately i am going to have to buy myself a new phone because i cant keep a stolen phone in good conscious, and i went and bought a new ST Sim for wifes phone and transferred to it, now her phone is all back to good.(must have flagged the sim itself)
Moreover, i would like to know, for future reference, HOW/WHY could At&T force an update to shut down network/sim card when AT&t update and knox etc etc was frozen/disabled in Titanium??????
Even MORE, what other apps can i disable or freeze on the S5 to prevent ANY future automatic/forced updating to occur???
Is there a full freezable apps list for the S5 ? Specifically ones for at&t updates?
i mean, i assumed OTA stuff was strickly FW upgrades only (i.e. like 4.3 to 4.4 etc etc)
Freeze the following to stop all updates:
AT&T Software Update.
FWUpgrade.
LocalFOTA.
Samsung Push Service.
Security Policy Updates.
Pulling down a 485MB update right now. Haven't found anything as to whether it is truly Lollipop or not... SLOOOOOW download.
reboot... and it's only 4.4.4. Why on God's green Earth would they deploy 4.4.4 when 5.0 is supposed to be ready to roll?
5 will probably be available soon. Just like what Verizon is doing
Keep an eye on this page for GSG5 AT&T updates.

So.. basically unknown fixes, plus more AT&T bloatware to disable?
I guess that depends on how important you feel VoLTE and 4.4.4 updates are.
Lolipop will be coming soon enough.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using XDA Free mobile app
Yea... I guess they started the work for this update long time ago and decided to just finish it and release it. The AT&T's version of Lollipop is most likely still a several weeks/months away.
VoLTE + fixes in 4.4.4
VoLTE and whatever fixes that came with the 4.4.4 update are more than likely not part of the lollipop 5.0 or 5.0.1 updates.. VoLTE I'm sure is the major reason for the 4.4.4 update being pushed before lollipop.. VoLTE is obviously going to be a major selling point in the future for all carriers.. leaving it out and just jumping to lollipop would be stupid for AT&T.. once all areas receiving the 4.4.4 update have been rolled out they should start rolling out one of the versions of lollipop.. probably before the end of February so as not to be to far behind Verizon
Dont have the update
I have the s5 for at&t and I just checked and it said my software was up to date. any idea why I didnt get it?
AT&T is rolling out the update in "stages", meaning you might receive it later than the other customers. I have 2 Galaxy S5's in family, both are on the same plan and are AT&T-branded, however only one of them have received update. Don't worry and give it some time - unless you live in a region where "HD Voice" is already available this update is not "crucial".

i was wondering exactly the same thing...
If you are not using an AT&T SIM you will not get an update. I don't think you could get the update even if you were using the AT&T SIM and were on a European or Asian network. I haven't seen an update on KIES for an AT&T phone since 4.1.2 on the GS3.

I have Lookout as the top consumer right now at 29%. That's not good. I did that update a week ago, and it was very miserly then. I wonder if a recent LookOut update is the culprit.

Lookout is very buggy. Over the course of owning my s5 I've already uninstalled and installed lookout 4 times (which solves the problem for a good while). FInally I decided to turn off the malware scanning and just keep location / lost phone part as that's all I really care about (as a backup to android device managers lost phone feature). I figure the android has built in limited virus protection already and I don't install except from the play store and am not rooted. I haven't had any problems with 4.4.4 but I did a clean wipe and use lookout in a limited fashion.
I have an AT&T Galaxy S6 Edge that I have been using on Cricket. I have never received the update that AT&T released earlier this month. There seems to be some confusion as to if you get those software updates on Cricket or not as I have gone through forum posts where some people have stated they have received updates for some devices and others say they have never received updates while using Cricket for AT&T devices. I did have them unlock my device so I could also use it on T-Mobile. Has anyone else had issues getting the update? Could it be related to my device being on Cricket or being unlocked? I have also tried putting an AT&T Go Phone sim (with active service in) and my device contacts the server and still doesn't see the update. I am not sure what else to try.
---
Never mind. With the Go Phone sim in, advancing the date a day, it allowed me to check again and then it found the update. Still think it is ridiculous that they won't let their own phones receive updates on Cricket.
I'm using an ATT sim, and have not received an update. I've advanced all the way through June to check for updates without success... as well as reinstalling via ODIN multiple times.

Last July, I switched over to MetroPCS from Verizon with my girlfriend to save money and ever since then, I've had all kinds of problems:
Some numbers can't call or text, and even though I'm now with MetroPCS, the Verizon boot screen is still there along with a bunch of Verizon apps I can't get rid of. The phone also alerts that the SIM card isn't from Verizon. On top of that, the upper left says "T-Mobile".
I am not able to update to Nougat because of this.
Is there anything I can do to get the update?
I switched from Verizon to Tmobile. I can not get update from verizon by OTA. You need connect your phone to computer, download VZW Software Upgrade Assistant. Then you can update your phone.
Yes, you can not get rid of Verizon boot screen, you can disable some verizon apps, the alert of no verizon sim will be shown each time you reboot the phone. And I believe MetroPCS is using Tmobile network, so displaying Tmobile logo is normal.

That answers my question! I appreciate it!
I have had a Galaxy Note 9 (SMN960U) that is AT&T unlocked for the past couple years. I only used a T-Mobile SIM since I am in a Family Plan and have not been able to update the phone at all since 2018. I've contacted both Samsung support as well as AT&T support and they told me that they would need to lock the phone back to AT&T for the updates to be installed. Is there anyone who has had this issue before and can help me update the phone to Android Pie? I've read some possible solutions is to insert an AT&T SIM into the phone or flash an unlocked firmware version but I'm not familiar with either. Please reply as soon as possible for anyone that can offer assistance.

Do you know by any chance if inserting an AT&T SIM will allow me to update the phone then reinsert my T-Mobile SIM?
I can't speak for AT&T, but I can say that the inverse works. I had an unlocked Note9 that I moved from T-Mobile to AT&T, and could no longer receive updates. I inserted an active T-Mobile SIM, rebooted, and was immediately able to update. It had to be an active T-Mobile SIM, or the switch wouldn't work. I just did it right now, so could work for you. It's a lot easier than trying to flash firmware.

I would assume it would work if that SIM has service, both of the SIMs I used were prepaid. You'll know if it recognized the SIM, as after the reboot it'll show the AT&T splash on startup. If it doesn't, then the current state of the AT&T SIM won't work. That happened to me, I first tried a T-Mobile SIM whose service had lapsed.
If you do update, just make sure to keep going through the update process repeatedly. You have to install an update, let it reboot, and check for updates each time. You can't just jump directly to the latest version, which I think is part of the problem.
