There could be a problem with the phone recognizing your wireless connection, are you able to successfully use any other device that is connected to your wireless network such as the internet on a computer for example? Also make sure your router is not using MAC addressed bases filtering where is may be preventing your phone from accessing your wireless network because it doesn't recognize your phone as an approved device.

I would try running the fix permissions utility http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...uoDYDg&usg=AFQjCNFVVBI7q3iCXSLQ8xIDHIZ0jAjD3Q as well as clearing the markets cache in settings.

I've successfully set up my Chromecast with my Gnex hotspot and my Galaxy S 4G, and Netfilx and Google Play Music stream perfectly: however, Youtube and Google Play Movies and TV is tricky: it takes too long to load when it works. I got a Youtube video to work but only once. Tabcasting works but it lags. I think we need a thread that troubleshoots this type of problem, but if I'm wrong, please disregard this thread. If it's needed, please share your experiences here. The screenshots I'm attaching is my current setup (I switch my one sim card between phones): in this case, my Galaxy S 4g is the hotspot, my Gnex is MyPhone, MT6451 is my laptop #1, VPCM11AX is laptop #2, FranciscosiPhone is my iphone, and the Azurewave Tech is (I'm assuming) Chromecast.
Update: gnex as hotspot, s 4g as source with Aircast streams movies from SD card.

May I ask how you managed to get this thing to work? I've tried multiple methods for Wifi tethering using the Galaxy Nexus and all have failed. I have tried Wifi Tether 3.4 and the stock tethering option. The errors include, AP Isolation needing to be turned off, UPnp not configured, and no connection. Once I do eventually get connected, its slow and just kicks off while trying to reload. Are there any additional settings in the wifi tether app that need to be addressed? Any help would be great. Thank you.
No need for apps. I'm running cm10.2 on my gnex and 10.1 on my galaxy s 4g. Try to setup with the chromecast app but don't change the Chromecastxxxx network name. That is one problem. The next problem is "connection failed" due to password. That's fine. Double check your gnex password and try again. If you get try again just press cancel and you'll be set. It's a bit tricky but I've done it several times with both phones. If you get stuck, let me know and I'll post a video or something.
After I pressed cancel, I was set up. The first time I did it, I didn't know I was set up until I noticed the app said "Ready to Cast." Then, after resetting the Chromecast to troubleshoot some problem, I realized that changing the ChromecastXXXX name is the main problem.

I'd hide those MAC addresses if I were you. Not that we're neighbors or anything ;p
Yeah I use my One's hotspot to connect the two as well. Funny my LTE is faster than my router.

LOL! I thought about that but got lazy. Are you able to stream YouTube and Google Play Movies and TV with your hotspot?

Yeah, runs fine. Though, naturally my battery drains quickly.
I've tried this method and it doesn't work for me. Left the chromecast's ID as default, was able to get it to connect, but the Chromecast itself is never recognized by any device. I can refresh or toggle wifi and eventually it will show up as an option in Google Music/Youtube, but then trying to connect to it produces an error message.
I have tried using a Galaxy Note on T-Mobile run tethering and surprise surprise, it works, but because they don't have unlimited data like I do on Verizon, it's not an option at all. Seems like it might be an issue specific to the GNex.

On the gnex, try going to settings-wifi-advanced-wifiFrequencyBand: 2.4 GHz only

So with this method you used your galaxy s as the hotspot and the gnex to setup the chromecast correct? I don't have a second phone to do that, have you gotten this to work by using the windows chromecast setup app? I can't connect...with or without a password on my hotspot and using 2.4ghz only.
Please explain how you set this up step by step
Currently, I'm using the gnex as a hotspot. I originally used chrome on Ubuntu to set up. Actually, any setup will work. I switched to see what works best and I think the gnex hotspot is more stable. You will, however, need a 2nd phone or computer to setup. Sometimes setup gets a bit tricky and says setup failed but that may not be correct, as I showed in the screenshots.

I've gotten it to connect to my gnex using the default name like you said, but I'm not getting a cast button on any app (using my nexus 7)

Does the TV set say "ready to cast"? If do, make sure the nexus 7 is also connected to the gnex. The chromecast app on the nexus7 should also say ready to cast".

Thanks, I'll try this out when I get home and see how it fairs.
I tried the 2.4Ghz setting and the Chromecast app doesn't recognize the Chromecast at all. Even though it's set up and connected to the network, the app will detect it as needing to be setup, even though Chromecast displays "Ready to Cast." I really think it has to be related to some Verizon LTE thing because I don't really know why it would instantly work on a T-Mobile Galaxy Note but not for a Verizon Galaxy Nexus. Doesn't really make any sense. I don't think using CM10.1 has anything to do with it either. I also tried CM10.2 with the same results.
OK. If you are "Ready To Cast" and you can't, this is what I found: YouTube, Google movies, and music are "blocked" if you don't have a paid hotspot plan, but Netflix and casting from your computer should work. On my sim, I had about 99gb of data and Google doesn't cast but Netflix and tab casting works. On my wife's sim, the hotspot on her plan is still less than 500mb so I can stream. This is on T-Mobile.

New chromecast ota update: http://www.androidcentral.com/chromecast-app-update-aims-fix-discoverability-issues
I wrote this post before the first update and setting up, to me (after a factory reset) was easier. I haven't had the new update but as soon as I get it, I will factory reset and reprogram to see if anything has changed.

I'm convinced this will never work with my gnex as a hotspot, its just teasing me. It worked great with my girlfriends Rezound as a hotspot, but thats gone from a mugging in Colombia last week, and now she is getting a gnex

Thanks for the help. That reasoning probably makes sense. It's fine because in a few months I'll have a dedicated wifi connection and won't have to resort to my phone, so I'll just have to wait it out. Thanks for all your help!

I have upgraded to null 19 and my AT&T note 3 is stock. I tried foxfi first and it was painfully slow. I have open garden now and its faster but nothing will download from the play store. Takes too long. Is there a faster app?
Personally I've always just used the native Android tether in the Cyanogen ROM's. Stock roms are boring..

I don't think I'm ready to do that with my note 3. A little chicken. I was hoping that I could modify the watch enough without needing to mess with the phone. The watch will search the internet, go on the play store, but it never finishes downloading apps. And the other apps.like Google voice don't register the internet.
I had great success with EasyTether Pro, it's a bit pricey but it worked well when my Note 3 was stock. You have to get EasyTether Pro for your phone and EasyTether Tablet for the gear. I also needed the xposed wifi spoof hack in order to download things from the play store if I remember correctly

can these be sideloaded and work without null?
I have tried open garden and it is much faster than foxfi. I just can't download anything or get my google voice or calendar to work. However, open garden is free....
Has anyone been able to screen mirror to their SmartTV / Bluray using their Note 4. I have been trying to mirror to my Sony device yet all I get is an error message that the connection failed. Screen mirroring works perfectly with my Galaxy S4. I was hoping to continue mirroring directly without having to buy a Chromecast or Roku. I contacted Samsung support and as always they were worthless. Thanks in advance.
I mirror without issues to my Samsung Tv. Are you rooted or any mods installed?

The Galaxy Note 4 is not rooted and running stock ROM. The Galaxy S4 is rooted. Both are running 4.4.4.
I mirror all the time to my Smart TV no issues
I don't have any issues. Maybe try Odin th ed stock firmware. Worth a shot.
If your connected to WiFi network try disconnecting from it. Also make sure you forget the network settings as well. Do not want to reconnect to WiFi while attempting to screen mirror. See if screen mirroring works that way?
I had an issue before on my mirracast device before on an older firmware. Where it had connection issues when I was connected to a WiFi network.
I connect my note 4 to my samsung tv pretty easily, but they are both samsung so that might make a difference. However when I connect my phone to my WD live box, I fequently get the same thing you do. If I reset the box I can get it to work for awhile but then the errors cone back. It seems like it should work easily. I'm still working out the bugs but will report back if I fix it. For future reference, if you root your note, it seems that the stock kerenel is best for mirroring. Custom kernels may need some items added to the build. Prop to get it to work properly.
Edit: you motivated to find a solution! For my device, and I havent tested yet, but a suggestion was made that both devices be on wifi. My WD is hard wired. Is your sony? That could make a difference.
Thanks for the suggestions but so far nothing works. The Note 4 attempts to connect but always fails. It's surprising how easily the S4 connects yet the Note 4 can't. I wonder what Samsung did in the newer version that would cause the error.
