Was updating my G1 and bricked it when I installed the SPL from http://code.google.com/p/sapphire-port-dream/
This had root access before I messed it up.
I've tried all booting methods. Camera and Power, Home Power, etc. and nothing gets me out of the T-Mobile G1 screen.
Please advise if this can be fixed.
congratulations if you cant do anything with those buttons you have now bricked your phone, it makes a nice looking paperweight tho, there is no way to fix what you have done
I REALLY hope you flashed the Radio first like it said so in the instructions... But I guess it doesn't matter now, you are bricked sir =/. I hope you still have the warranty or insurance...?
There is a thread some where on here claimong some type of method to get a new one or something you should look for it n see if it helps u n any way
if you still have a warrenty....say this
"after months of waiting i finally recieved the 1.6 update. but after the phone rebooted it wouldnt start up. i have tried everything the guides on the internet say about how to get it working again and nothing worked. the guides all said that if you cant get to the 'recovery screen' or something like that then you cant fix it..."
wing it along those lines....it works
and next time please post in the correct section - questions go in the QnA section
sidenote - if its a tmobile UK or USA one this will work
if its rogers Canada it wont as there is no 1.6 for rogers dream
did you remember to back it up before you done anything - if so do try the following as this fixed mine when i had that issue
remove and replace battery
boot into recovery mode
use the restore option and restore from backup
if you can get into fastboot then you maybe able to push a new recovery and spl but not sure so you will need to search the forums
as stated, they cant get in, unfortunately
I would say act more innocent than what you say.
Guides, recovery, 1.6 update etc.. would all ring alarm bells for me if I worked for tmobile.
Just say it said something about an update, you clicked ok, it restarted and then wouldnt come back.
Dont mention recoverys, 1.6, guides online etc....
i found that acting intelligent worked better coz 'an intelligent person would never **** up their phone'
and edited version:
"i woke up yesterday and my phone said 'update available' so i hit ok. once it was finished my phone wouldnt turn on - it just got stuck at the G1 screen"
Short Story: GPS didn't work on my G1 so I unrooted for warranty return. After dropping to RC29 my update came and it bricked the phone.
Garok89's statement below is almost verbatum what I told the rep. New phone 3 days later.

btw.....
i live in Asia....God
well i would try to act dumb first, but then if they start trying to give you hassle, little by little pile on your knowledge of the phone, if you live in asia and cant do anything about it, just make a call to the corporate office and handle it with them, the minute a business this big hears the words "corporate office" im sure they will find a solution for you.
I setup my wifes phone yesterday and then thought to check for the 4.4 update. Right now nothing appears to be happening. When I check for the update manually it says that there is an update already downloading and that I will be notified when complete. However, there is nothing in the notification tray to suggest anything is happening. This morning I woke up to a message saying that the download will complete once on wifi (but the phone was on wifi and working properly). That notification is now gone and same problem persists.
I've tried the obvious so far: Restart phone, try update using the Moto software via USB.
Level 1 tech support wants me to do a factory reset. Hoping to avoid that and the hour+ of setting up the phone again. Any thoughts? My phone is not rooted nor do I have plans to do so...
Since nobody seems to have any thoughts on this I decided to go ahead and factory reset the phone. Same exact symptom as before. Phone tells me there is an update available, I click download, nothing happens. Check the status a bit later and it says that an update is already in progress.
I'm starting to think that it's a problem with Recovery. Is it possible that these things will function normally with a broken or no recovery present? Went into fastboot and selected recovery. Instead of getting a factory reset I got a 'no command' error. Can't imagine it's possible to flash stock recovery if it's not rooted.

That's stock recovery, I think you need to hold down the volume button and then the power button and release, it should boot into recovery.

Hello,
I FINALLY convinced my wife to go Android. Got Nexus 7 2013 in August and she's gotten used to it. She's been IOS forever. So, her new moto x arrived Friday and we setup yestersday. Since she is OK with Nexus, the moto X will be good for her to move to. All is good EXCEPT the updates didn't download for some reason on activation yesterday. It showed it was downloading but to re-activate wifi. But, it was on?!!! Anyhow, she comes home today from her first full day at work with Triangle in notification bar to turn on wifi to download update. It's been over an hour with no movement and no status bar showing it's begun the download. I keep clicking for "system update" but says it's downloading... Status bar shows nothing other than update is ready and turn-on wifi.
Sounds like same issue as original poster. So far, wife is not happy with Android and her battery meter jumps all over place from 5% to 100%. Tempted to do factory reset but not a good way to start off as OP mentioned.
Any ideas or updates? Thanks

It seems like a dodgy or slow internet connection to me. Since you're still in download phase of the update, I don't think the problem is related to Recovery.

Identical problem here. No update so far. I did the factory reset with same results. Going to try to flash stock firmware if I can figure it out.

Wifi is not the problem. The internet is cranking and when I did the factory update it chewed through 20+ app updates in no time at all. Motorola has no idea how to help me... they just want me to send it in for repair. Such crap. I would love to try flashing stock firmware but can't seem to find any links that work.
Found the firmware. It appears my phone has the oldest build listed 139.9.51. Would it be okay to flash new build of 139.12.54?

Or does it make more sense to go ahead and flash 4.4 stock firmware?

Here is the thread that I used to fix my problem. I downloaded the stock 4.4 firmware from the link and flashed it using that technique. Phone appears to be tip-top now running stock 4.4.
Hello. Seems you fixed the problem. I question as to whether future OTA updates will download and we should return or not. Hmm..
I don't know what firmware she has. I'll have to check tonight when she gets home. Can you re-post the link?... it seems it didn't post it on the thread.

Oops: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2572249
I think this is likely a temporary fix. I figure there is bound to be at least one or two more OTA's well within the warranty period... so I'll found out then if there is some other problem that needs to be addressed. Right now when I check for an update it simply says that the phone is up-to-date.
4.4.2 should be around the corner I think...

You could flash the post-camera OTA SBF and see if OTAs to 4.4.

I did originally flash 4.2 (139.12.54) to test that very thing. The OTA had the same problem. Like I said, I think
this phone will eventually get sent back to Motorola... but during the holidays I'm just going to deal with it. Besides, the
phone is running great.
I'm using the tmobile version and I'm having the same problem. Says it needs to connect to wifi to update, but its already connected. After reboot it says update in progress, but nothing happens.

Maybe it's a problem with the Motorola update servers...
I'm thinking that's probably the case since the cyber Monday promotion probably slammed them.
Glad to hear it's not just two of us..but still.... Sorry to hear of your problem too. Keep us posted.
Update on my wife's moto X. Still no update has been downloaded. She came home last night from work turn on wifi with triangle in notification. It said I have to turn on wifi to start download. It was already on have been on for a long time. So after a while I started to hit the Check Update button and also cleared the popup message telling me that one was being downloaded. (It's not) Did that routine several times. It did look like some WiFi activity was occurring based on WiFi x in symbol..but nothing. The message in notification eventually changed to the download status bar but stayed a 0 %
So, same story since initial setup on Sunday. Bummer. Not going to fiddle with any hackery. It should just work like my X does which is why she wanted it in first place and left Apple.
Will keep all updated.

i have a note 3 that is boots up to the unlocked padlock screen gets stuck there then boots into recovery mode. it even gets stuck in like a bsod mode where i cant see nothing or get it to respond to buttons. the only way I can is if i open it up and disconnect all ribbons(havent tried pinning pointing one yet) after i do that and reconnect them i can get the phone in download mode or recovery mode. i tried the restore with title wifi fix. to no avail. the only thing i know about this phone is supposedly it was working then they guy tried to do the update since then stuck. he said he sent it to samsung and they wouldnt fix it because it supposedly had a custom rom flashed. which im sure it had something done because of the unlock padlock/bootloader sign. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Brother !!
This same thing happened to me!!
I looked everywhere for an easy solution BUT THERE IS NONE !! Yet.
The reason why is because there are no easy "Odin back to stock files" yet is because at&t is a fn a-hole and locked the bootloader !!
I brikt my shıt about 4 days after I brought it home from costco.
I combed through the interwebs for the 48 hrs straight like a mad tweaker!! because of course this is our 800 dollar babies we're talking about !!
I kept getting the same error message as you are mentioning about the kies update connect your pc blah and so I tool it back to costco and played dumb and said that I got a notification to update and clicked ok and it did some stuff and "now its stuck on this screen with some error??" .. the lady at the kiosk looked it up and down and said someone else had come in last week with the same error message . LoL !!
I walked out of there with a brand new baby !!
Maybe you can do the same thing? Just hoping you are within your return timeframe.
your last but definitely not last worst case scenerio option is to stick your sim card in another phone and wait till someone from our awesome family here finds away around/through that damn bootloader and drops the beautiful Odin+files to give new birth to your 5.7 beast of an angel !!
Hope this helped in any sort of way. Good luck dear Brother!!
Please let us know how it goes. I think there are many brothers on here in the same predicament.
I have an SM-G925A.
Purchased second hand from a seller I know.
Had his Samsung account on it and Reactivation Lock was turned on. We put phone on Wifi and tried to turn off Reactivation Lock. Just loops back to same screen and remains turned on.
Correct Password and Email as we were able to hard reset phone and at the Reactivation Lock screen during setup, it was accepted and we continued through to set up phone.
Still Reactivation Lock won't turn off, just loops back to same screen.
So we decided to delete Samsung account from phone.. Email and Password accepted, Samsung account deleted.
Thought we were good. Nope.
Now Reactivation Lock is on, grayed out and we cannot add back the Samsung account. Press on Add Samsung account and nothing happens.
Also cannot do Factory Reset from within Setting. Just press Reset Device and nothing happens.
Can't try flashing stock Rom as it's on AOF4 and no Rom to be found online.
There is no OEM Unlocking option in Delevoper Options either so can't try that.
I know I have seen other users with different S6 devices with similar problems after spending time searching on here.
Has anyone found a solution?
You wont be able to remove it unless you have the original info and I mean the one before the person that sold it to you. He just gave you the info to bypass it but not to remove it completely as the legit information it is encrypted within the bootloader and it must match with the info that you input to remove it 100%.
If you have the account info try this
http://androiding.how/unable-to-disable-reactivation-lock-on-galaxy-s6-try-this-fail-safe-trick/
Let me know if it workd
can somebody please help me. i can't turn off the reactivation lock of my samsung galaxy a5. i tried already the method that will delete the prevoius account and then will make a new one. but it didn't work. can anyone help me?. thanks in advance.
Resurecting an old thread and XDA doesnt seem very active these days but
I would love to know how to get around this. I have the wifes old phone and I decided to factory reset it.
The device was listed under FindmyMobile and had my samsung account listed during the factory reset it just refused my password to the point where I reset my password but it still gave a "processing error" every time I put it in so I did the hard reset completely ignorant of the RAL.
Now I have a device that still wont let me pass the samsung username and password part of setup.
Spent days reading useless posts and watching the same regurgitated youtube videos all with titles that inspire confidence only to find idiots that have no idea how to get around it I mean one said its a faulty power button!!!
I did find a post on here but I need to be on android 5.11, ive got down to 6 but 5.1 wont go on!
Samsung were unhelpful they told me what I had done and how to get around it, enter the username and password, they said if I can remember these details I will have to take the device to a repair shop and they can sort it, so there is a way, but during this lock down im not going anywhere!
Like I said the samsung account on the phone was mine and the device was visible in findmymobile is it possible this is a samsung issue and not a me issue?
The phones an old S6 SM-G920F and I wouldn't bother but its had a new batter and a new screen so ive invested some time and money into it, I dont want to just junk it now!
Anyway, if there is anyone on XDA anymore and you are reading this and you do have a method to solve this please reply.
If you know how I can get 5.1 on the device that might be useful too as there are methods listed in here for 5.1 but I cant apply.
Oh I found a method on applying 5.1 but im guessing its for a computer science grad as it was full of unexplained acronyms, that to a general MS Server engineer like myself, meant absolutely nothing!

Hello this morning I tried to root my phone using the KingRoot app trough the purify app I downloaded yesterday. When my phone started to "root" it turned off. And when I try to turn it back on it doesn't power up. Instead I am met with a small red message at the top left of the screen that states "KERNAL IS NOT SEANDRIOD ENFORCING Custom binary blocked by FAP Lock" I went to a local phone repair shop and they tried to factory reset my phone and that didn't work. The employee stated that the root is already started and needs to be finished and referred me to this site to seek help. Please help I have no technological back round and just want my phone to work again.

There's no way to "finish an uncomplete rooting" lol. Flash stock rom again with Odin. It will boot.
And there's really no reason to double post (you have this sane issue in the "General" section).
So..… ..

… .why are you trying to root without any technological background? Or, at the very least, using Google for what it's there for? A search for "kingroot note 5“ brought me here, and also to numerous links that discuss this in great length. The first page of search results covers this. Sorry to come off as rude, but you need to do some research first, because to me, $700+ is a bit high for a rectangular paperweight.
