[Q] No ROM, can't mound /sdcard - Xperia SP Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I've gotten myself into a bit of a jam. I was on CM12.1 build 0411. I wanted to migrate to the latest 0425 build with f2fs support to see if some lag issues are gone, with Tangerine Kernel 1.3. I booted into Philz Touch (from XZDualRecovery), followed the instructions in the ROM Thread. I went to install the ROM but now it says it cannot mount /sdcard along with some other errors (I'll get pictures if needed).
So is my option only to go back to Stock ROM using FlashTool and .ftf?
Plus, I can't use adb sideload as it doesn't recognize the device in recovery.

Hello my friend, I think you are not allone. I was on CM11 Rom (LBL) for over year - two month ago I flashed CM12 for the first time. Now the troubles begin:
Because CM12 especially 5.0 over all is still a problem (wifi, calls etc.) even for their own Nexus series.
Anyway, I had a perfect backup of CM11 and I had perfect backup of the currently running CM12 Rom.
Because I need a stable running Rom for my bisiness, I switched always again back to my CM11 Rom.
But some day last week I flashed back to CM11 and was in a full bootloop. No chance to go back to Recovery or anything else.
Reason: I don´t know why, but there is something in the scripts of Kitkat or Lollipop, that damages SD cards, when you often switsch between the two systems. The sd card was dead, only readable, but not writeable again!!!
So ith the latest backup I made in the sd card, not all data have been written on it (not a complete backup) and when i tried to restore the system, with CWM, onla parts of the recovery have been readable. Hehe, bootloop. **** happens
My tip: Save your time with experiments - install your phone from beginning with .ftf file. I did it too

Alright! And it's interesting you mention that SD Cards dying because of this. My 64GB SDXC Class10 microSD mysteriously died on me with the same symptoms. I was switching between LiquidSmooth and ParanoidAndroid while the latter has no internal memory.
Thanks, will do a .ftf flash
Do tell me, what ROM are you on now?

Hi mate, btw. I had to buy a new sd card too. I personally think that it´s a bug since kitkat, because from this version on google only has allowed to write apps to ext. sd, which where verified by google! It´s a well known problem.
So I use this ROm http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735975
There are more excellent Roms from excellent developers. I must say I never tried another one, because this Rom for me always worked perfect - since CM10 build by bagyusz. No need to try another one :fingers-crossed:

[Q]Nexus 1 not returning to Factory Reset

I have been trying for the past 3 days to return my N1 to the stock program. I have unlocked the phone and i was enjoying rooting for the past 8 months. I installed many different builds like Modaco, LeoGingerbread, Rodrigues MIUI, MicroMod Gingerbread and then Cyanogen Mod 7 (build 36), that is when it started to have tons of force close and the programs would stop running.
I always cleared the phone before i installed a new build.
I decided to return the phone back to the original factory settings and start fresh but it is giving me some problems.
I have used many different version of the PASSIMG files on XDA but i always get an issue with an Android program stopping unexpectedly.
At first it was the Settings that did not work, i fixed that.
Now it is the Calendar AND Market who keep force closing.
I have been trying for the past 3 days looking for a solution but i have come to the end of my patience.....
If ANYONE has a solution, i would love to hear from you.
Right now i am just thinking of getting a new phone but i love my Nexus 1
This is the first phone i ever rooted so my knowledge of rooting is limited to the 8 months of installing different builds. I never created a program or modified any.
Thanks

I am going to take a stab in the dark here...are you by chance using ClockWorkMod recovery? If so did you upgrade to 3.0.0.5? Assuming this is correct you are in the same boat as I was...your not going to like it but if you are first go back to 2.5.1.4 or older. Next you will need to format your entire SD card and repartition it, then do a restore. That should work. Hopefully you have backups of your SD card contents... If a restore doesn't work still then you may need to format and partition again and do a fresh install. I lost a lot of sleep the other night trying to figure out WTF happened. It seems that something it 3.0.0.5 changes the SD-EXT and cannot be repaired without a format. I was mad enough about the whole situation that I have ditched CWM and am now running RA.

I sis upgrade to the ClockWorkMod 3.0.0.7 and that is when the problem all started.
I downgraded to the 2.5.4 version and i was able to install the CyanogenMod 36 and then it really went all bad.
I was so frustrated that it was not working that i formated (and i did back it up) my SD card. Then i did what i said and i am still having issues.....
Where did you get and how did you install RA? I was used to the CWM and i really liked it until they upgraded to version 3.
Thanks
Look in Developer section.
Take your SD card out, reformat it in Windows, then put it back and repartition for EXT, if you're using old Apps2SD (/A2SD/Apps2EXT).
Wipe everything.
Install any ROM.
Enjoy.

[Q] Internal SD card doesn't get mounted (but works in CWM)

I use CM9 and recently flashed "build 5 captivate mtd/cm9, based on teamhacksung's ICS Build 14 (USB host mode driver)".
Now, the internal SD card can only be accessed through CWM. Root Explorer tells me the SD card isn't mounted and in the preferences, the option to mount it is greyed out.
So what I'm looking for is mostly a way to manually mount the SD card through the terminal emulator or something. That would be enormously helpful for the time being. Until I have the time to wipe the whole damn thing and make everything work like it used to.
(And... idiot that I am, I thought "Meh, I'm not going to do a nandroid backup before flashing this - I'm sure such a minor update is gonna be fine" - so restoring a backup isn't really an option either...)
I'm not sure but all I know is you are using a very ancient kernel... I don't know why you thought it was an upgrade. It is essentially the kernel from an alpha build that had many bugs at the time. There are probably incompatibilities between this and current CM code. Both Semaphore and Devil kernels (which are current) support USB Host, if that's what it is that you are looking for.
Oh, and since you only flashed a kernel, a nandroid would be mostly useless. Just flash a new one or flash CM9 again to return to the stock one.
Well... I didn't think it was a whole kernel but just a driver (I don't know enough to know where/how in the whole system drivers are integrated). And since it was the latest version for CM9, I figured it'll be fine. Didn't even realize that CM10 stable is out already. (And I thought that nandroid backs up kernel, ROM and data?)
At any rate - thank you very much for explaining and providing those solutions! :good:

Yes, nandroids do back up kernels, but if that's all you want to restore, it's simpler to just flash one.

[Q] My phone is a shipwreck.. HELP!

Hello! well first of all sorry for my english, second.. these are my 2 little motherf... with this :cyclops:
Since am new with androids and this phone is not precisely popular i spend a lot a time figuring out how to install CM 10.2, when i did everything was fine until i notice that mi internal memory went from 8GB to 5GB (i had previously installed a custom android rom with safetrap but i wiped it) then after a couple of days i lost ALL of my internal memory and i had to reflash the device.. i still have no idea what it was
Well doing that i decided to go for CM 10.1 cause it was an "stable" one and then again flashed the rom and all that but i still had my internal memory full.. so i when into cmw recovery and format the data and other stuff except for the firmware and the internal data when to 5GB again BUT my WIFI died.. and now it doesn't turn on.
I know its a long story but am freaking out! i don't know what else to do.. i cant either restore my internal memory to 8 gb or fix the wifi.. any help would be appreciated!
Oh ya i forgot to mention.. i already tried to "restore" to stock settings with RSDLite but still.. same problems
Looks like you formatted your modem partition. Look here:

[Q] GT-S6500D (jenad) problems with WiFi and SD (internal sdcard0)

Dont stone me if repost, but believe it is not, I honestly tried to study this and other forums for last almost 2 weeks without any results:
I got Mini2 with GB stock ROM and first rooted (using Poot exploit) and upgraded gradually to CWM 6.0.4.5 and CM 10.1 and later CM 11. Didnt discovered any problems except for sdcard0 mount problem as described may times. sdcard0 is not mountable under CWM 6.0.4.5 and CM11 but I think that this can be solved using other threads in this forums, so not a matter here and now, however, it may hint you what is possibly going on. The main thing is, that after trying to experiment with OC kernel, my WiFi always indicates ERROR when trying to switch it on. No matter if in Stock ROM or CM (any version). I tried to reflash Stock and CM (10.1; 10.2 and 11), even repartitioned with ODIN (3.09) and reflashed Stock ROM. No improvement, no change.
Strange thing is, that it was said, that after flashin CM (or CWM not clear now), the offline battery charging does NOT work and phone alway reboots. That can be confirmed by me, but with that exception, that it does NOT work either after reflashing Stock ROM and Stock RECOVERY. Even after this, phone never switches OFF when connected to the charger, just reboots.
I have always did full WIPE (data, cache, format system).
Currently I have Stock ROM 2.3.6
kernel 2.6.38.6-1248583 [email protected] #1 dated Thu Nov 7 20:39:38 KST 2013
Baseband S6500DXXMK1
Recovery reports "Android system recovery (3e)
During last Stock reflash the baseband got upgraded. I am a PC guy, not an Android specialist, but from everlasting WiFi problems and offline charging not working even with Stock ROM and Stock recovery, it looks, like something somewhere got left from my tries with either OC kernel or CWM/CM and prevents Wifi from being switched on. Curently my Stock is rooted so I can get some logs/info anybody can need willing to help/investigate..
Any help or pointers to troubleshooting are highly appreciated as I really love my little cute Mini II.

Alternatively, can someone direct me to steps to COMPLETELY WIPE EVERYTHING (I mean really everything to the bone and start with STOCK ROM from scratch?
Thanx.

Noob still on CM 7.1 needs KK.

Every time I trie to update to the latest ROMs I notice they specifically target the new bootloader. I have no idea what the old vs new bootloader dilemma is about but I bet my device runs the old one, I read somewhere the white LG logo on startup hints to an old bootloader,
My question is how to upgrade my bootloader or ROM directly to Kitkat the easiest way possible, I bought my handset already CMed and unrooted but I have never done it myself.
Thank you in advance, and if you could bother throw in some links to relevant threadshttp://forum.xda-developers.com/images/icons/icon8.gif

They are New Bootloader only! The process seems as easy as full wipe + flash the zip (my phone came with ROM Manager 4.5.0.1 with old recovery) but I fear my bootloader in incompatible. Is there a way to update or something.
Also does my sd card and all applications get removed, and how to back them up, also if I brick my device does the recovery still work to flash the back up or what? very noob I know, I learned alot of terms but never managed to make good sense of it all, thank you.............
Oh one minute my ROM Manager has an Install ROM from SD Card button, can I do it right inside ROM Manager?

With that you can backup/resotre and change the bootloader and alot more AiO-Toolkit
If you change the bootloader layout, as i know all stuf will be removed. so make a nandroid backup, if your new rom is not working and make a sdcard backup(also in aio) to get appdata back if you want.
If you dont want to download all apps new after having new rom use titanium backup. the recovery is not breakable. it will always work. not important if you **** your rom

As you do have CM 7.1 installed, I guess you've got a custom recovery installed too? I don't think you can directly use ROM manager to install a kernel, but you can use ROM manager to boot into recovery mode and flash the zip from there Just be sure to make a nandroid backup, just in case KK isn't compatible with 7.1.
If you ever want to get tonyp's CM 11 though, the AIO toolkit, as @Zubeplanet pointed out, is really easy to use to get the new bootloader.
Happy flashing!
