Hi all,
Since Lollipop update ( 23.1.A.0.690) I'm having big troubles with multitasking.
Everything's working fine except this. I think it's related to Lollipop memory leak but even when I'm switching with a few apps like Chrome, Play Music, Messenger, Snapchat and Tinder (let's say), when I go back to one of those apps, it restart the app so I guess it's both bad for battery life and mainly for performance. It's very slow and I loose a lot of time.
So I'd like to know because I didn't find anything, is it a known issue on this device ? Doest it concern a few people or everybody ?
Is there a fix or another firmware which doesn't have this kind of trouble ?
Thank you for your answer.
PS : btw I thought also that it's because of bad optimization of the apps but still, I didn't have this kind of trouble with a M8, even on Lollipop.
PS2 : When i check memory usage, I have a lot of free RAM.
Bump for this. I have this problem since I purchase the phone (Z3 Compact) and tried really a lot of things (Also I tried to manually edit services.jar to improve adj values) but nothing works. I can have a lot of Ram free but the multitask is still poor and android seems to kill the apps very fast for some reason. I hope someone have a fix or something else to improve at least the multitask.
In Sony LP firmwares there is no "memory leak" bug:

Thanks. But anyway ¿Why the apps get killed so fast? I don't know if it is an issue since kitkat or Sony fault, but I tried as said a lot of things and none works, it seems that multitask is inexistent for a 2GB of Ram device, I remember with my Nexus 7 Tablet in Android 4.3 had a looot of apps opened and no one get killed itself, it was a great multitask experience that I can't get yet in Xperia Z3 Compact. I tried edit minfree values, uninstall apps, change firmwares, edit services.jar, install tweaks, edit my build.prop, etc. Also I noticed with the Task Manager of System Tuner app that "/system/bin/mediaserver" is always eating more than 60mb of Ram, this is since kitkat and continues to happen in Lollipop, after of some hours, this same process can take up to 160mb of RAM!!! The worst thing is that in other devices this process don't seems to take a lot of Ram as in Z3 Compact did. Idk, it would be good that we can improve multitask in this device.
I don't know man but my phone keeps maximum apps in memory. I never had problems multitasking. Always could switch between apps with ease

Same here..
@Sadman Khan Please tell us what's your firmware.
Respect to /system/bin/mediaserver/ ram usage, see how many memory takes in my Z3 Compact compared to a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, Idk if it is normal in Xperia or something is triggering mediaserver to take those levels of Ram, the worst is if I leave it without a reboot after a day or two it can take up to ~200 mb of RAM!! . ¿How is the mediaserver ram usage in your devices?
I tried also a lot of thing to try reduce the mediaserver ram usage :/
The first image is from Z3 Compact, the second one from Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini.

I kept switching between these and even at 5 o'clock when i entered walkman, it didn't start all over. I could pick it up where i left it. D5833 .726 firmware

I can confirm this has been fixed in the new 23.1.A.1.28 update. Lollipop has bad memory management and it was truly annoying.

Nope. I'm on this build but I still have the huge memory leak. BTW, I have a clean flash using flash tool.
The problem is not going to be fixed until Android 5.1.1 update that have a looot of Memoty leaks fixed and a better memory managment. The people that say they doesn´t have the problem in Android 5.0.2, is because I think they only multitask between two apps or little apps, so they didn´t notice the problem.
We have to wait then I guess
But all those different feedbacks are weird
I've been noticing memory issues and home redraws the past week myself after finally updating to .726 with a clean install. I was debating updating to .28 since some have reported improved performance, but the reports have been conflicting. I'd rather just stick to .726 and wait for a L.P. 5.1.x version if that's the case.

Good to know. It's actually not so bad for me. There's just the minor delay occasionally when I press the home button and I think I'm receiving delayed Hangouts messages when my phone is asleep for too long, but for the most part performance is snappy, everything runs smoothly and works as it should, and battery life is still well above average.

Hi,
Does the 4.4.3 update for nexus 5 fix nexus bugs (camera battery drain bug) or does it fix kitkat bugs ?
If it fixes bugs for kitkat , can we expect 4.4.3 for Z1 ??

it is a very important update for Android KitKat, so as I think 4.4.3 will come within 3 months, as there maybe a little bug fix with the current .757 firmware
at this time, I think that if we want to save more battery to avoid camera battery drain, then I suggest not to use the face recognize and open the stamina mode to help to pause the camera needed apps

Actually I don't have battery drain and neither an unresponsive camera. At least not yet, since I haven't updated to KitKat yet, and still won't for the time being. Especially since Google acknowledged they have a serious problem with cameras and battery drain in KitKat and they're scrambling for a fix (which would come for the Nexus devices, every other OEM will have to fend for themselves).
But I do read all these KitKat-related posts and it's just not right, whatever is going on right now; this is just like a lottery, and I don't feel like gambling. And since some of the users do not have all those issues, it also looks that many more did encounter them, so we shouldn't dismiss the cold truth: something's gotta be done about this.
And yeah, 4K, I could care less about it myself

Locked bootloader, stock 4.3, unrooted. Everything's working smoothly, battery life exceeds two days with normal use and one day and a half with heavy usage, so I didn't feel the need to root, and install different ROM's, as I did with my S3, running on Cyanogenmod.

So I have recently bought a Z3 Compact.
I've had this problem since I bought it. It seems as though there is a memory leak as when I start the phone up for the first time, it works perfectly and I receive notifications as normal, then slowly after time(about a day of uptime), I notice that I stop receiving notifications. Looking at the running app view, it shows that there's only 99MB or RAM left!? There's like nothing running. It shows all services as "restarting". So it seems to me that Android is closing tasks as there is "insufficient ram", even though there really should be. I can't for the life of me figure out what's causing it though.
Is there anything I can use to try and further diagnose the problem? I imagine that finding out which app is taking up all the RAM would be the right place to start?
Thanks for the help!
So I had to restart so I could post these pictures(the tapatalk app would get closed when opening the gallery to add attach the pictures...)

I think you should try flashing an ftf of a different region via flashtool. I had this problem on an Xperia SP that i used to own. The problem was present in the Australian firmware but not in the European ones. It was weird. You don't have to wipe date while flashing.

Hmm... Interesting, I think I did however do that as the OTA wasn't available yet for my phone(think it's UK version) so I flashed US version. It's present on both though... I'm having a look regularly at which processes begin to grow in their usage. Not sure how long it's gonna take for it to be really noticeable though...

Hmm.. Nothing special I'd say. It's basically brand new...
I've been disabling a bunch of the stock programs that I can and it still seemed to "leak". I have removed my external sd card. Would that have an immediate effect on it? Or would I have to restart and then start monitoring it again?
Update: so I formatted the external sd(it was a Samsung evo bought from Amazon). I initially just removed it from the packaging and popped it in.
Lesson of the day, always format new storage media before using it.
Thanks for all the help guys! Really appreciate it!
edit: Seems to have improved, but it's still leaking! :|
So I quickly had a look at my z3c in windows, and thought i'd look for "strange" things.
Are the following first two folders normal? They both contain only .nomedia files. Not sure if that's causing some issues with the mediaserver?
This is so #@*&[email protected]# annoying... If we could have root without losing DRM, this would be much easier...

Honestly other than debloating, I could have left it stock as well.
I have incredibly itchy fingers though If I'm not messing with something that can turn my phone into a paperweight, I'm not having fun. Even the ram management stock wasn't noticeable to me. The Tmobile bloat is horrible, and I love loading ROMs and screwing with stuff I shouldn't be for the sake of the community.
LMT pie, adaway, custom roms, alliance framework, volume warning removal, de bloating, viper4android, etc... Root is always necessary.

Agree, you won't miss much by not rooting. I have disabled most of the bloat which are allowed to be disabled. I can switch between apps without any issues. I got a replacement device last week because the previous one will just turn off itself even if the battery is charged. the "new" (Actually is seems refurbished) works well so far. I have repeated the same process on disabling the unwanted apps, turning off wifi calling and VoLTE, screen on auto brightness, all the usual stuff. Battery life is not great, but can last a working day with moderate usage. If you are on the road, and use camera, maps, then battery drains quickly. If t-mobile network is poor where you are( which is a not unusal), battery will drain even quicker.
T version has to many app from stock... Almost 1.5gb of trash stuff.

always nice to get an update. about to install, need to quick charge first. I had wifi-calling on all night, hence my battery was at 1% when i woke up. which brings me to my next point: i hope this update fixes the cell-standby bug. I don't think I'll use video calling much if it means my battery life tanks due to enabled VoLTE. It's been reported, on other S6 variants that got this "latest TW" update, that RAM management is better, so i'm looking forward to that possibility. hopefully the experts here will check out all the minute code details regarding RAM and let us know if RAM management is the same or not.

I just plugged phone into smartswitch and saw the update. 50% through right now. Wonder what's up with it, and hopefully battery life is a little better. I'm pretty sure being an avid user as I am, and the apps that I run don't help.... But, my s4 got better battery then this phone does =/ I'm also probably going to have to get a replacement, because my camera is all wonky, and making weird noises.. All in all, I'm fairly disappointed with the way Samsung rolled this phone out. I'm trying to stick with Samsung, but they are making it very hard.

Hello XDA,
I updated my phone via pc companion and used it well over 1 charge, the radio on bug still exists at least for my z3+ dual and the battery drain I can say is worse than lollipop so far!
I was playing a game "boom beach" while the phone was charging and it actually drained more than what it was charging!
When I plugged it battery was 47% after around 30 minutes of playing battery was in its 20s% that's horrible! And yes using original charger and USB cable I do firmly believe that unoriginal chargers / cables can destroy your battery.....
Please anyone report any issues you face with the new MM here....

I can see that you're using the Dual SIM variant. Mine too though no notification yet from Software Update, Diagnostics and email from Sony. Can you post the new launcher of MM?☺

Okay I used flashtool and reflashed the ftf as a fresh install, everything seems better. But I haven't tested headphones quality yet.
I attached the launcher screenshot ☺

Thank you.☺ I still don't have the update but I'm kind of pretty excited.☺
I agree I updated my 6533 to MM and the battery is draining is killing me. with LOllipop I could leave my phone at 100% before going to bed at 10Pm and wake up with the battery still 100%, Listen to music on my way to work and the battery would still be like 99% at around 9am. with MM I leave it at 100% when sleeping, I switch to airplane mode and when I wake up it's 98 or 97%. I miss Lollipop's stamina mode I could play games and still get through the day without charging.

It doesn't support adaptable SD card, but it supports normal SD card behavior.
In other words yes it supports SD card like it always did
