Samsung RAW Support - Galaxy Note 4 General

Hello, guys. I've just started a petition to Samsung about bringing us the joy of RAW camera shooting. I'm not sure how much of you actually care about this Lollipop feature, but if you have the time, please, support the initiative and sign the petition. Here it is:
Enable RAW support on latest Samsung devices
P.S: For those who truly are enthusiasts I guess it would be best if you help me spread it amongs the users who might care. I intentionally haven't mentioned any particular device model since I hope to reach users of other Galaxy devices as well.
Thanks for your support!

It would be great in if they just implemented the entire camera API 2!

I'm with you. RAW was pretty much the only Lollipop feature I was interested in. Without it being implemented I've been quite happy to stay on KitKat.

Even the HTC One M9 has RAW support now, smh Samsung

I read somewhere here that they plan on adding it(as part of camera2) but the qualcomm models currently suffer from slow response times when camera2 is enabled in the firmware(even when not in use)

I agree with you, RAW is such an important thing HTC M9 already added the RAW option in an update to the M9 camera because I believe HTC DOES really care about the M9 owners.
While Samsung is delaying Note 4 updates because of the " Gear VR headset " !!!!!!!!!!!
who cares about it ???!!!!
I believe that Samsung should bring RAW support & free the Note 4 kernel from Gear VR headset firmware & convert it to a normal APK file to any one need it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

General Inquiry: Pitch in your ideas!

Galaxy Note 4 is Samsung's 2014 Note series flagship device. When using a flagship device, we want the latest and the greatest technologies available. That's true for the software as well. I've been working hard with Samsung Software Engineers to bring you the latest features for your Galaxy Note 4. At the time of this post, Android Lollipop testing has reached its final phase, we're preparing our servers for mass rollout. The question is... "If there is one thing that you would like your Galaxy Note 4 device to have, what would it be?"
So far, we've received requests for...(These have already been implemented in the Android Lollipop upgrade).
1) Radio stability including GPS, WiFi, and LTE connections.
2) Android Lollipop.
3) Touchwiz UI Optimization.
INQUIRIES/REQUESTS ON THIS FORUM AND STATUS:
1) Memory Leak-Accepted.

Fix all you listed and 64 bit support for exynos
The one thing that I miss from my S4 is the ability to put Settings shortcuts on the Homescreen, why was this taken away in the Note 4?
I could put Battery, Data Usage and Tethering shortcuts in the HS on my S4, but can't in the Note 4, is this due to Android 4.4.4 OR updates to Touchwiz?

Thank you! Your request has been accepted! We'll add that support into the minor lollipop update scheduled for early May through late August, depending on your region.
1. Memory leak bug in lollipop fixed.
2. Knox express - ability to deploy apps and screen capture policy deployment like the full knox enterprise version.
3. Bug in calculator fixed (I have filed a ticket and they tell me this should happen anyway but just checking).
4. air gestures working for all stock apps (like the fake note 4 which has a better air gesture system).

No it's fine. I perfectly understand. I should've introduced myself in the original post. I am the manager of Samsung Media Specialist in software division A. That would be great if you don't mind it will help put my mind at ease.
I hope more OEMs take this route, just makes CRM seem like it is truly taken seriously in this industry, which is what I have been wishing for many years now.
tk is legit.
also here a suggestion for samsung rather than the samsung note 4 team (if you know anyone at a higher level) :
you have 5 (or is it 6?) versions of knox like you have fifty different phones. you should have one samsung knox with all the enterprisey stuff included and consolidate it all into two pricing models - below 250 seats free, above 250 seats pay per seat. it would make things easier rather than trying to chose between myknox, knox express, knox premium, knox entrpise, knox government etc. etc. they all have the same basic functionality - why not just combine them ? sometimes even your knox guys have no idea what they are doing (e.g. knox express for small businesses has DoD CAC functionality from knox government enabled), so just have one knox for everyone.
also: another note 4 suggestion - support for RAW camera saves with no processing done. in stock camera app.

You don't have anything to do with cell providors like Tmobile? You are strictly Samsung. Are those updates engineered Internationally or here in the USA since I see you are from Georgia? Just curious. Thank man.
My wishlist:
1. Bring s voice back to alarm (stop, snooze)
2. Ability to re-map Recent Apps softkey button as an option button.

I work strictly for Samsung and T-Mobile is currently my cell service provider. Updates are engineered for all devices including all carrier variants. What I am doing on this forum is gathering information about the userbase and their wants/needs. After a week, the "base" update will be created remotely using our proprietary software by 12 software engineers from each region. "base" update is an update that can be installed on any Samsung devices carrying the same prefixes.
I am currently in Atlanta, GA working and collaborating with the engineers remotely.

please please enable on exynos versions since i have a 910U.
also 2 more suggestions - neither of them from me but from other people i know who own note 4s - but which may not be possible -
1. Good help manual on the phone itself. Help manuals are available to download but a good help manual when you boot up the phone (preferably as a continuously updated app as the device is updated or a pdf in the current language of the phone which gets downloaded on language selection or something). But it should have a nice standard question mark help icon which i can click on to read about all the features on the phone.
2. Simple one click backup/restore to PC tool wirelessly. (Background : This person used to use a Nokia phone which had a one click tool (ovi?) on the PC which downloaded wirelessly the phone, all its apps, all its settings and all files on all SD/internal storage into directories on the PC. I know kies cant do that without root for the app settings and files. This would also be useful to me if it backed up the knox container in encrypted form and could restore it).

Roll out of Lollipop for 910U (And a few others)

Thank you Samsung for letting down the 910U. There are absolutely no excuses to take so much time to update all variants. Too many variants and inability to maintain them... Never expected releases to come as fast as on my Nexus 5, but that bad is really a shame (Other manufacturers have already updated their flagships)
With all these different models of the same phone, Samsung has managed to create an extra fragmentation level of the already fragmented Android. Amazing.
And I don't want to hear that is maybe because we'll get a newer version than 5.0.1 or an improved Touchwiz (Like was speculated as an explanation for the very slow initial rollout of Lollipop). Most likely well get finally 5.0.1 when everybody will be on 5.1
I came back to Samsung after a few years (My last one was a Tab 7.7). Definitely amazing hardware each band every time. The software side (incl speed of new releases) is still a shame.

Have to agree on the hardware front. Amazing, sleek and sexy. For the OS part though it's definitely a let down. I wish they would just apk all of their bloat and just let us use it on any non tw OS. No hidden or private api baked into a slow ui. My sister is running a S4 and laughing because she has LP and I can't even get it. Hell it's not even announced for my version.
i speak for 910G users and its a pathetic logic for 910G as well..... 910F got the update so why dint the 910G......it will be good if samsung can get their **** together and concentrate on a single processor and give its users what they pay for
I wonder if they limit variations because there's not any more letter in alphabet or what?

pretty crap when the F and G use the same hardware but different bootloader and modems - would have taken very little time to get a global release for the two models at the same time.
Calm Down untill the Final Release
SM-N910C user here, I feel your pain But you guys should not forget that the Lollipop releases for Note 4 are not final , are more like test builds thats why it is not availble outside of the world except Poland. In essence , more than 90% of Note 4 users didn't receive Lollipop. I have installed Lollipop and I am pretty confident that it needs some tuning and fixing before the worlwide roll out so hopefuly every use gets straight the Final build in some weeks time and not a test build like some lucky N910C-F users!
The Real let down would be in the case where the Final Worlwide release is ready for some variants and not for everyone or the others who didn't receive the final update and receive a test build like now Here there is no space for excuses
Thank you for alcibiade for another whiner thread. For God sake get a life, the note's 4 lollipop update isn't that earth shocking. In general KitKat works as good (or some respect even better) as Lollipop.

Thank you too rj3005. Now you (unwittingly) bring a bit more to this thread. I wasn't even complaining yet, but indeed, contrary to the Nexus Series (I own a 5 and a 7) the Samsung version of Lollipop is indeed not so much of a change compared with KitKat. Less material design, still lags here and there (I honestly don't know since I unfortunately still do not have an update for my 910U............). Samsung has amazing hardware (And that s why I picked the Note 4) but Software wise.... Honestly....
Anyway let s hope the S6 brings finally a decent Touchwiz we may all benefit from..

Its not about getting life or what, but put urself on our shoes. What would u feel if everyone's got the lollipop amd u were left alone not having it? Good or bad is another matter. Being up to date is what xda is all about. At least that is why i joined xda.
I am totally with you, i know samsung for long time, and i know that they will not release the 5.1 for the 910u version because we didn't get the 5.0.1. in fact, we will get the 5.0.1 when the C gets close to the 5.1 . i am not mad or saying this because i hate samsung, i replied to tell you again Don't give your hopes on samsung to give you something that you want. I can tell from now that we can get the 5.0.1 version in 15 days from now, but without any change of the C version and maybe more buggy than it .

I live in HK where U is the default model.
Weeks are passing... Still no sign. This is really not serious for a phone that's less than 6 months old.
Yep its a big fkn joke.
You should try being in Canada with a W8 model
The W8 model of of the note series is always the last to be updated let's just hope we get a fixed version.
Phone runs fine without Lollipop. If you read about how many are switching back from Lollipop, not in any hurry to get it myself.
Yes I switched back. You're missing nothing yet people. To me it really felt like a beta, battery drain, needs refining. I can deffo see the potential, its noticeably snappier when it's working right
And why oh why do people keep contributing to what they call whiney threads?! And whining themselves about them! Nothing wrong with whining every now and again, should people on forums all be constantly happy? Is it written in the rules?
Please of please skip the thread of it upsets you so much! Ffs!

To be fair the issues encountered with the first versions of Lollipop should be put to the credit of Google. On that they screwed up massively and even the Nexus line suffers from it (I also have a Nexus 5 and a Nexus 7). It's hard to blame the phone makers on this.
Nevertheless time passes by, most of flagships have been updated to Lollipop and... quite a number of Note 4 haven't. Samsung weakness on the software side is blatant (while they indeed design excellent hardware, the Note 4 and the S 6 are very good example of this)

910C - exynos 5433 - will ever get 64 bit enable

Hello guys,
As I couldn't find any topic about this I decided to create one.
Will note 4 exynos version ever get 64 bit enable.
I don't think it will get officially from Samsung. But is it really possible to port from S6?
Is there any dev working on this?
Cheers!
Dont expect it bro, it wont be enabled by Samsung because.. its gonna be a Note 5 feature.
well, I guess porting a future rom like Note 5 or GS6 and a 64bit kernel will do the job, we have amazing devs here, this is all im dreaming off...my 2 cents
I would love to see this happening.
I would like to see somebody porting the S6 Kernel to Note 4, but there are people saying that there are way too much difference from our 5344 to the 7420.
Another way to go would be porting from Tab S 10.5 which also has the 5433, If Samsung ever launch a 64 bit Kernel for that device.
Will this help

Best bet is to get a Galaxy S6 Edge if you want a good phone with 64bit.
I thought we pretty much got over this topic in the Snapdragon vs. Exynos thread, I said many times don't expect Samsung to implement 64bit in the Note 4 Exynos.

No doubts Samsung will never implement 64bit in Note 4 officially.
The question that remains is. Is it possible for some dev to do it?
x64 wouldn't even make much of a difference, it's more marketing than actual relevant improvement... But whatever, still an improvement.
The SoC is theoretically capable, so, even if it is unlikely to get it from a S6 port, it isn't impossible.
Samsung porting the device to x64? No. They'll sell the Note 5 as a x64 device.

Of course it is possible for a dev to do it, but it takes a lot of time and going by the lack of kernel devs developing kernel's for the 910C I'd argue that no one is willing to take on such a project, especially considering it won't bring any major performance improvements. If say there was a nice reward someone might want to spend the time, but as it stands right now, this section is severely lacking in devs.

well, I will be the first one to donate, maybe in the future we can open a donation thread, I know im not alone on this one, a lot of people wants to see what this phone is capable of, also I guess porting a Note 5 rom will be less trouble than a Gs6, only time will tell, but I have my hopes :fingers-crossed:
hhhmmmm i really like to have this 64bit active on my N910C too but getting CM official is more exciting to have
I strongly feel that people have no clue what the benefit of 64 bit enabled note 4 would be, but at least it gives a reason to be unsatisfied.

If say there was a nice reward someone might want to spend the time, but as it stands right now, this section is severely lacking in devs.

I'm gonna take a look at this when I'm back home later tonight. But I honestly doubt the success of it.. The Exy is already not documented that well and I have only found some parts hinting to 64bit support when developing for it. But I'll give it a try [emoji16]

Android 8 for SM-G900F

Hi to all SM-G900F fans and for all developers!
I'd like to introduce this topic to discuss about the possibility of the Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F to have the new Android 8. Knowing about some amazing improvements that were made to the new Android 8 that will arrive soon, I'd like to know the following:
[ALL FANS] - What do you think about our S5 SM-G900F having an Android 8 ROM? With a booting time cut in half, with app performance increased in double, with drivers available to update, etc.? If that will be possible to the developers apply to the S5 SM-G900F, it would be great or not?
[ALL DEVELOPERS] - What do you think about the idea of creating an Android 8 ROM for a great 2014 phone? It will be possible to do that with all improvements that were claimed for the new Android 8? It will worth that huge effort?
As you can see I love this phone, no doubt about that. But, my wish is to have my Samsung Galaxy S5 SM-G900F running Android 8 with all those features that were claimed to have in the new Android OS. If that can be possible, I think it would be amazing for this phone! Because I think the hardware is still good to support newer software and it would be very nice to see an excellent quality/price phone like this to match new ones.
I hope my wish can became true. . .please do not let this phone R.I.P!

"booting time cut in half, with app performance increased in double, with drivers available to update" Idk if it is possible, but it will be quite hard. If android 8 will come out, we developers WILL DO OUR BEST to get the best out of the s5. Seriously, we try our best but stop saying things like this, developers do this things without wanting anything in advance from you, SO PLEASE BE PATIENT! And please don't open threads like this because it is like opening a thread and just saying "i bought a new phone and i am happy (no **** sherlock lol) "!

Yeah, you're absolutely right and I apologize for my behavior. I was only excited about that I just decided to try to share my feelings and thoughts with the XDA Community. I love XDA Developers. It teached me so much about everything related to Android over the years. However, I must follow all the rules and have a good behavior so please feel free to remove/delete this thread.
Once again, I'm sorry for having opened this thread. Just a BIG "thank you" to all developers for the hard work they always do and for all members that share doubts and solutions for everything related to Android.
Best regards,
Lu

It's alright to discuss about such things, but never push devs beyond what they can do. You simply show disrespect and it's one of the main reasons why devs give up creating something new.
Regarding Android 8 (Android O), I don't think it's going to be an easy task to port it to our device. At first, on Nougat was hard enough to make everything working (camera being one of the main highlights, since N has a completely revamped camera interface under the hood, like different process handling and stuff). I can't imagine, what O actually brings to the table and in no way it's going be a walk in the park.
And neither battery life nor camera is going to be as good as stock. Blame Samsung and Touchwiz for their closed source nature.
Even if it happens, camera will still suck. Why flash something that makes your phone worst and unstable, just to say that you have the latest android version in "phone about"
I don't know why you are so hyped about it, it has really small changes since Lollipop...

Of course not. It's about to have all the NEW features in your OLD phone (if possible, of course). I think there are several phones (like the Samsung Galaxy S5) that have plenty potencial to run newer software. Besides that, one teacher I had, one day, he told in the classroom that there's no limits when programming, it only depends on our imagination to create solutions. I'm nobody to say that his words are correct or not, but I believe if there's will and hope that things are capable to be made.

I'd love to see Android 8 on my S5. It is true and it will be always true that the stock TW camera is the best one. It has slow-mo and 1080p60 video (I know that OnePlus camera has 720p90fps slow-mo, but that's not that great comapared to the stock.) But in my opinion, for some picture shooting, it is a great camera with the stock Lineage camera as well. (Maybe one day someone can find Samsung's driver).
Besides that, the S5 runs great with the latest 7.1.2 Android, and I believe that it will run as fast (if not better) with Android O.
Definetly hope for an upcoming information, devs: take your time, make a great rom.
I don't see anything wrong with this topic? The guy just asked if it's possible lol He didn't tell you "MAKE IT NOW!!". About stock android 8 - no. Stock android is boring, even Samsung's version of KitKat has more features than the newest stock android from Google. But some sort of port from, let's say, the Note 8 or the Galaxy S9 would be awesome in my opinion. There already are S8 ports for the KLTE which work with little bugs that will be fixed soon (SkiesROM) or ones that don't really matter that much (DreamUX ROM). Hardware is more than capable. iPhones have super low hardware and Apple updates them for 4-5 years ahead. This means that 'old' 2014 hardware like the S5's can be used perfectly fine even in 2020...with the right developers. BUT, nothing beats official Sammy firmware. Sure, you'll get the new features from android O(reo?) and the new Note8/S9 but bugs are inevitable whereas TouchWiz 6.0.1 is fine in every aspect. I'll stick to my S5 until 2019-2020 and then buy a new S10 or S11 (xd). I just hope that Samsung bring back the features from the S5 like IR blaster, fingerprint scanner on the front, hover view in the gallery and video apps, etc. FM Radio won't hurt too (still envy my S3 Mini for having it, 1%=3h radio) :|

Will our Note 8 get some S9 Features?

Ok we obviously won't get any hardware-dependent features, but we should get the new camera interface / live text translation / split-screen app shortcuts etc, right?
Just lol... Yeah, in 15 minutes all the developers on xda will answer you. With the exact date and time and the mod they will port. After all, the S9 is now already 6 months old. Hang on...

Ideally those features should come with the Oreo update of Note 8. Can't see any other logical reason for delaying the update of their current flagship as most of these tweaks require dual camera which s8 or + dont have thus they just released the oreo without that. But, they cannot release the new features on Note 8 before they show it off in S9. Thus the hold up in the update. Releasing a Oreo update for Note 8 without those features and then again releasing one more later with the update is too much work thus they must have skipped the former.

Lol dude, chill.. nobody is expecting definitive answers. I meant do you think Samsung might include these features in future updates. I was hoping for a discussion on what is theoretically possible, now that a lot of S9 features have been leaked.

I know. Threads like this, when the phone is not even officially released and people already want something from it, make me angry. I want to change, but i can't. I often feel stupid for "being the xda police", and still i do it. :silly:

You're not the "XDA police" so stop acting like you're superior to the rest of the people posting here. You're in the questions and answers sections, this post and your previous ones aren't helping and are annoying. All you do is post some stupid sarcastic comment to try and make the previous poster feel like an idiot instead of actually helping them.
Aremoji should work because there doesn't seem to be any hardware limitation
After the s9 sales well yes the note 8 will get key features as for anytime soon no forget it
Hopefully we at least see Oreo soon. I'm still salty because Samsung just cut the Samsung Pay reward points in half....
We will see (I hope) many good things when Oreo hits the note 8, I can not say that features from s9+, but hey! They belong to a different series, I bought my note 8 for what it is and the features it offered from day one, so, anything else would be a very welcome bonus, that is why I do not complain or whine about oreo still not coming, I like my device as I bought it, that is why I chose it, that`s it.
i did saw the live launch yesterday and they displayed for a few seconds that the S8/S8+/Note 8 is AR capable
so lets see if Oreo update will allow us to have S9 AR capable camera features
Honestly I doubt it unless 3rd party ports them. They're running out of ideas for new upgrades it's obvious and to port new software features to older phones isn't the best marketing move. That's just my opinion.

S9 system dump was just released. I already ported it but without Oreo most stuff doesn't work and it's extremely buggy. If anyone wants screens or anything just join my Telegram group [at]JaysRoms . Once we will get Oreo. I will port S9 to Note8 .
Samsung messed up this time BIG time. We all paid very good money for the note 8 for a good phone - ok? Yes, that is true but to wait almost a full year for the Oreo update? Common SAMSUNG...
Now the S9 series will be on top of everything and in a few months the Note 9 will so our 1000 bucks Note 8 will be "old" , "sluggish" an so on... This is bul**** my friends.
When I pay this money I am expecting fast update, support and ALL the new software features. But we are to blame! We should stop buying new phones every year! If we stay with a phone at least 2 years and don't give them our money they will start to understand that a 5 months old phone IS NOT OLD!

your first mistake was expecting fast update from Sammy. they are known for their obscene late updates and if im not wrong, the current price of the Note 8 is already pretty low before S9 even hit.
i was even thinking of rooting but thx to Substratum especially the font addons. again, i maybe wrong, cause i do shot video at 60fps, rooting may very well kill that feature. yeah, there is rooted stock rom but i root for flashing purer rom if theres such word and therein lies the problem, no more 60fps!
Anyone who expects S9 features to be present in the Note 8 rom must be smoking something illegal...
Where in the world is the economic sense to supply these features in their next phone if owners of older phones have it already?
Why would you update your hardware if you are already running most of the improvements?
We'll probably get a slightly beefed up version of Oreo that the S8 and S8+ got and won't see any of the S9 features until 6 months after the S9's and S9+'s relaese. There's no money in it for Samsung...
My view on major updates is mixed. Monthly security updates are in my view mandatory and Samsung continues to offer those down to the S6.
Major OS updates can yield mixed performance and stability results when applied to older hardware. Further, the advances from say Nougat to Oreo- range from significant (Treble (which the 8 series will not get with Android 8.0), better battery life, notifications, etc ) to cosmetic.
Samsung Experience new version tweaks seem even less important. I can live without new emojis for example.
I think the bottom line is that with Oreo and Project Treble, Samsung and others should be able to churn out faster and more reliable updates. The issue pre Oreo was more on Androids limitations and less on Samsung's intransigence. That said, the omission of Treble from the 8 series Oreo updates is troubling. Maybe this will come with 8.1.

No Samsung won't be releasing any of the s9 features for note 8 as it would cripple the s9 sales and the note 9.
They only did that with the note 5 when note 7 was recalled as a apology of some sort.
The XDA devs on the other hand are know to to port stuff somewhere down the line but sadly we don't ha e that many devs for note 8 yet as we did for previous notes such as note 3 and 4.
Hopefully more devs will buy note 8 when note 9 is released when price falls.
