[Q] Shutter button appears to have gotten "stuck". - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A LONG POST, please be ready. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!
So I lent my z1 to my friend. They went swimming in a pool (yesterday), so the water was chlorinated. They forgot to wipe it and dry it off properly after swimming, this led to numerous water marks on the screen, back panel, and camera lens. All were sorted out and the phone was good last night, they said. But when they gave it a charge and turned it on the morning after the pool day (today), the screen wouldn't turn on. They waited a bit and it turned on, but the buttons weren't functioning as they would anymore. Initial issues:
1. The power menu kept showing up.
2. Volume rockers were perfect though.
3. Camera shutter key would not respond.
I took it home and dried it properly, opened all ports and tried to mash the water out. I also tried to flash fresh firmware (I held the volume down button all the time I was flashing because the phone kept turning itself on). It worked properly for 5 seconds, but then the power menu kept showing up again. So I blow dried it. After about 5 mins of drying, the power menu stopped appearing and I could use the power button properly again. On to the next issue:
1. The camera button seems to be the one stuck now. It keeps turning the camera on. I blow dried it again for another 5 mins. After this, I gave the phone a full charge. The camera did not pop up anymore, until I pressed the shutter button again. Once I pressed it, the button just seemed to be stuck again. I cannot use it once it goes into the camera app, but I can take pictures using the digital shutter button. It just keeps triggering the camera app because it seems to be stuck inside the phone. The button seems to be raised normally from the body and makes a clicking sound when I click it, though it sounds different and weaker compared to my father's z1.
What should I do to make the shutter button not stuck anymore?
Also, the water indicators on the flaps are still white as they were before I gave the phone to my friend. Display, speaker, front and back camera are all functional. I have not gotten a chance to test the sensors yet. I have the phone submerged in rice at the moment.

[Q] Power button long hold- Menu is gone!?

Like the title says... holding the power button does not produce the "Shut down, restart etc" menu anymore. It locks the screen just fine and dose force feed back upon long hold but no menu pops up...any ideas whats up?
This just happened recently.
Also sometimes when I unlock the phone it randomly presses either the home key or back button. Any ideas on this as well?
the first is a software problem, a reflash should fix it.
the second is a hardware issue, could be caused by humidity inside the phone, remove everything from the phone (battery, cover, cards) drop it ina bag of rice for a few hours to soak up the moisture. if that doesnt work then if you're still under warranty you could get it replaced.

[Q] menu and back keys stuck/not working

i accidentally dropped my galaxy mini in water but immediately took it out..removed the battery and all .. there wasnt any sign of water inside the battery compartment and the water damage spot is still white.
but noticed some drops around the three buttons on the front and i 'manhandled' the phone to get the water out..like hitting it against my palm ..
the keys were working alright after this episode but later in the evening the back key started having issues then power key also started malfunctioning like whenever pressed instead of locking the fone it would take a screen shot..and similar problems with all three keys.
currently my back button is not working (sometimes randomly it works for few mins then again stops).. menu key is also not funtioning and power key although is locking the phone but sometimes it goes back to screen capturing.
i wanted to know if this can be due to keys getting stuck or have i done some serious damage?
and also can there be some software issue about this?

XPeria Z won't turn on and LED doing strange patterns

Hello !
My problem is a bit long to explain, but I'll try to make it short ^^
So, at the beginning, I think the problem is about water resistance, because I put it in water with all the covers closed but when I took it back, the jack's "white thing" turned red and so did the others as well (even if I don't know how it happened).
From that moment, I began to try a lot of things, like charging it, connecting it to the computer, put it in rice during one night, etc... In order to dry it and to see how it's reacting, and here is the differents "states" I noticed:
-when it was charging with the wall charger, the red LED was blinking regularly
-when I connected it to my computer, the red LED turned on, my computer made the connected sound, the LED turned off 2 seconds after, and 10seconds after it went on again with the disconnected sound and the connected sound again and repeating (disconnected - LED on - connected - 2sec - LED off - 10sec)
-it wasn't doing that usually but it did it one time; red LED blinking without any connection to anything ( blinking 2 times every 2 seconds)
-and nothing was happening with the dock
At the moment I'm writing, it's acting a bit different:
-nothing's happening whithout connection
-when charging to the wall charger or the dock, it vibrates 1 time, red LED turning on, waiting 4 seconds, vibrating 3 times pretty fast, then the LED is turning off and it repeats a dozen of seconds right after that. (a bit like that - --- - --- - --- - --- - ---)
-when it's connected to the computer, it's now doing the connected and disconnected sound without stopping just like somebody is playing with the USB
I tried to press any button at any state, but I did'nt noticed anything changing.
I think that's all.
So if you have any idea about what's happening to my phone, please tell me
Thank you !

It's water damaged and needs sending for repair. Red LED indicates a hardware error.
There is nothing you can do yourself to repair it.

So, yesterday, I brought it to a repairer but instantly when he saw that the "little squares" were red, he told me that there's nothing to do, end of discussion.
I came back home a bit sad because I knew I had to buy a new phone but then, this morning, I was in a mood like "I don't give a f***" so I put it in charge and I tried hard with the Power Button, and the Vol+/- when suddendly, I saw the screen blinking during one short moment. Then, I tried again and I finally saw the "Charging screen" but the screen was going on and off. I waited a bit and it turned on by itself, and it went until the PIN-code phase but there again, the screen was turning on and off repeatedly, and, trying hard again with the buttons, I managed to go until the homescreen, but seeing the screen turning on and off again with sometimes the menu to power off the phone/restart/etc... I realised that the real problem was about the buttons ! So I turned it off ( trying to press the button rapidly before the screen do it again) and now I finally understood evrything ! When it was doing the strange patterns with the LED and the vibrations, it was because there is some problem in the contact with the buttons (it was turning on and resetting by itself because of this).
Now that we finally know what the problem is, have you got an idea about how to solve it ? Do you think there is still some water around the buttons and that I should try to dry it again (and how in that case ? Rice ? Hair-dryer ?) ? Or will the buttons stay like that even without water remaining ? In that case, do you have any solution ?
Thanks again !
You can buy all the replacement buttons on ebay if you are confident enough, it seems that you're warranty has been voided by the water so that's out of the question. I would suggest buying a new battery at the same time.
replace the battery ..

yeah i think my problem is buttons too.. after i wash it, with flaps closed tightly, my volume indicator increases automatically and constantly.. and after a while it will take a rest and annoy me again.. my power button doesnt respond too.. until it opened in safe mode.. to cut it short, my phone wont boot and whenever i charge it it vibrates with a pattern 1 short and long stop and 3 short and so on
i think the buttons is pressing power button and volume up by itself when it is charged.. pls help

Power button and LED Problems

Hi.
2 days ago, I accidentally water damaged my phone. Main entry point of water is through the earphone jack. At first, it's really messed up (overheating, power and volume button not working, safe mode, not booting up) but after 3 days it's working normally again except for two things:
LED color won't change from red
Power button is super sensitive (don't have to put pressure to lock/unlock phone)
I haven't tried bringing this to a service center (no time, ugh work) and was wondering if there is like a fix for this? Probably just needs to be dried out for a few more days?
Please advise thanks.
I fear, these problems can`t be undone. But if i were you, i would switch it off and put in a sealed bag with rice for at least 24h. If it then does not work, it`s gone...

Black Screen, won't do anything.

Hello,
I have a rooted and TWRP installed but otherwise stock 5.something T710 that I had worked on months ago. It's been great and my daughter had been using it to watch videos a couple days ago. I took the tablet from her at the end of our road trip and noticed it had about 63% battery left. I left it in the truck while we went to the movies(about 40 degrees f outsides) and then drove home without ever touching it until we got home. I went to use it when we got home and it would not turn on. I plugged it in to let it charge thinking it died for some reason, using the stock charger, though battery icon never appeared. The next morning I went to check it and it still would not turn on.
When I press the power button or plug in or unplug the charger the Recent and Back soft key lights will turn on for a second, then turn back off again.
I've tried:
Holding the power button down alone for over 3 minutes.
Held the power and volume up button for over a minute
Power and volume down for over a minute.
Home, volume down and power for over a minute
Home, volume up and power for over a minute.
I can connect it to my computer and it recognizes that my Tab S2 is connected but no files show as the default for the device was just charging mode and not the file modes.
Odin3 v3.10.7 recognizes it as connected. But fails to send the TWRP file again.
Any help?
Since the soft keys light up and the computer recognizes the device, it sounds like maybe the tab is still working but with no display? By any chance did you have adb working? I f so you could try rebooting, or booting into recovery to see if you see anything on the screen. It's possible that when you held the button combos, that it did boot into download and recovery but you couldn't see anything? In which case it could be a hardware problem. Hopefully it will fix itself! Sorry I can't be of more help..
Well adb shows the device as unauthorized. Reboot command says the same thing.
The home key is unresponsive to my finger print unlocks and no sound plays when I try to adjust the volume, like the ding sound it makes to hear if this is the volume level I want. There are never any of the capacitive touch vibrations or whatever its called to feel when you press a button on the screen.
I was wondering if it had something to do with hardware it's just strange that it would stop working from just being in my truck. From my knowledge it was never dropped or bumped heavily or anything, at least recently.
I guess it is possible something just burned up inside, that would be inconvenient, I've got to look up if its still in warranty. I love the size and performance of this thing.
Thanks for replying, hopefully more to come.
Still can't get it to work, same issues as above. I let the battery fully die which took about 2+weeks from the initial post. Which is to say that eventually the back and recent buttons stopped lighting up. I recharged it and after holding the power button for a few seconds the same condition repeated itself. If I touch the power button or home button the back and recent button back lights turn on for a moment and turn off again. There is no other indication of life. I would assume if it was just a dead screen then I should feel it try to turn on.
If I had to replace parts which ones should I look at first? Probably just the main board?
Buy a new one. Send yours in as defect. Done.

I see that is an old thread, but I having the same issue to a certain degree. The screen goes dark, but I can see the back light. If I play around enough times, (pressing the back and process button, before pressing the sensor button... Sometime, pressing the volume buttons and back button before pressing the sensor button), everything goes back to normal. Of course, it some random time, even when I am reading a web page or some other activity, it will go back to black.
So has anyone figured out what this issue actually might be? I thought maybe it was an issue with the ROM I was using, so I just moved over to LineageOS 16, but the problem still continues!
