Power button and LED Problems - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
2 days ago, I accidentally water damaged my phone. Main entry point of water is through the earphone jack. At first, it's really messed up (overheating, power and volume button not working, safe mode, not booting up) but after 3 days it's working normally again except for two things:
LED color won't change from red
Power button is super sensitive (don't have to put pressure to lock/unlock phone)
I haven't tried bringing this to a service center (no time, ugh work) and was wondering if there is like a fix for this? Probably just needs to be dried out for a few more days?
Please advise thanks.

I fear, these problems can`t be undone. But if i were you, i would switch it off and put in a sealed bag with rice for at least 24h. If it then does not work, it`s gone...

need help - tytn2 strange behaviour

yesterday my tytn2 started to act crazy, i didn't drop it or installed any new software.
the screen started to turn on on his own, front buttons stopped working accept the center button witch now opens the start menu.
when i open the keyboard the fn light is on and the keyboard doesn't work.
when i write the sms message trough touchscreen the backspace isn't working so i can't delete misspelled words.
the photo button and power button on left side still working fine.
all the applications work fine, and i can make calls trough touch screen.
i can't make hard reset because front buttons wont respond.
is anybody had similar problems or have the solution.
my guarantee is gone so i hope this is software problem.
Try doing a battery pull and letting your phone sit like that for a minute, put the battery back in, and see what happens...
It sounds like you have water damage to your phone, though. Every take it in the bathroom with you while you shower? The steam in the air is a sure fire way to get water damage, and it will take time to show, but eventually circuits rust and stop working and you end up with a lot of random problems, and usually all of a sudden you have a lot of major problems.
well, i can't remmeber that i had carry it in the bathroom while showering.
i pulled out the battery, waited for about 5 mins and when i put it back nothing has changed. thanks for the tip.
is there a way to do a hard reset without pushing the front buttons?

look in the wiki for a detail of all the ways you can perform a hard reset (i believe there are at least THREE ways)
METHOD 1: the one you are looking for (because your buttons don't work) can be triggered by going to Settings->System->Clear Storage (assuming your phone still boots up and the touchscreen is usable)
METHOD 2: when the phone is POWERED OFF:
1. stick the stylus in the soft reset hole and hold it there
2. hold down the two soft keys
3. press the power button
if you try METHOD 2 and if it works, then you can safely assume that your soft keys are working and that it is indeed a software issue.
i used METHOD 1 and did a hard reset.
nothing has changed, front buttons and keyboard still refuses to work.
unfortunatly it seems it is a hardwer problem so i'm going to take it to the service.
thank you for helping me.

[Q] menu and back keys stuck/not working

i accidentally dropped my galaxy mini in water but immediately took it out..removed the battery and all .. there wasnt any sign of water inside the battery compartment and the water damage spot is still white.
but noticed some drops around the three buttons on the front and i 'manhandled' the phone to get the water out..like hitting it against my palm ..
the keys were working alright after this episode but later in the evening the back key started having issues then power key also started malfunctioning like whenever pressed instead of locking the fone it would take a screen shot..and similar problems with all three keys.
currently my back button is not working (sometimes randomly it works for few mins then again stops).. menu key is also not funtioning and power key although is locking the phone but sometimes it goes back to screen capturing.
i wanted to know if this can be due to keys getting stuck or have i done some serious damage?
and also can there be some software issue about this?

[Q] lock button starts camera after water damage

My baby boy decided to drop my motorola razr i into the toilet. After drying the phone with a cloth, initially the phone seemed fine. After about 20 mins the phone has a couple of problems.
The Lock button (and Volumn Up button) are starting the camera when pressed.
I tried rebooting (by pressing the Lock button + volume down together)....but the problem still exists.
I have tried the 'dry in a bowl of rice'....btw will that still work (its been a couple of days since the toilet incident)
Is it repairable?
thanks

Well, the usual rule of thumb for devices dropped in water is to remove the battery as soon as possible to avoid corrosion build up... the voltage present while the battery is still in place accelerates oxidation thanks to the electrolysis effect induced by the introduced water... since this is not possible in our beloved Razri, the least that we can do is to attempt force turn off by pressing Vol+, Vol-, and Pwr keys all at the same time until the phone shuts down...
I know this is coming after the damage, but is good to keep it in mind. this would not remove all voltages inside the phone, but would reduce the areas where oxidation might form... I do not think the 'rice bowl' trick will have any effect after two days, but there's no harm in trying... I would try to open up the device and try to clean as much as possible any trace of liquid intrusion... there might be some internal shortage creating this problem you're experiencing, and might be removable if you manage to open the device...
Good luck!

XPeria Z won't turn on and LED doing strange patterns

Hello !
My problem is a bit long to explain, but I'll try to make it short ^^
So, at the beginning, I think the problem is about water resistance, because I put it in water with all the covers closed but when I took it back, the jack's "white thing" turned red and so did the others as well (even if I don't know how it happened).
From that moment, I began to try a lot of things, like charging it, connecting it to the computer, put it in rice during one night, etc... In order to dry it and to see how it's reacting, and here is the differents "states" I noticed:
-when it was charging with the wall charger, the red LED was blinking regularly
-when I connected it to my computer, the red LED turned on, my computer made the connected sound, the LED turned off 2 seconds after, and 10seconds after it went on again with the disconnected sound and the connected sound again and repeating (disconnected - LED on - connected - 2sec - LED off - 10sec)
-it wasn't doing that usually but it did it one time; red LED blinking without any connection to anything ( blinking 2 times every 2 seconds)
-and nothing was happening with the dock
At the moment I'm writing, it's acting a bit different:
-nothing's happening whithout connection
-when charging to the wall charger or the dock, it vibrates 1 time, red LED turning on, waiting 4 seconds, vibrating 3 times pretty fast, then the LED is turning off and it repeats a dozen of seconds right after that. (a bit like that - --- - --- - --- - --- - ---)
-when it's connected to the computer, it's now doing the connected and disconnected sound without stopping just like somebody is playing with the USB
I tried to press any button at any state, but I did'nt noticed anything changing.
I think that's all.
So if you have any idea about what's happening to my phone, please tell me
Thank you !

It's water damaged and needs sending for repair. Red LED indicates a hardware error.
There is nothing you can do yourself to repair it.

So, yesterday, I brought it to a repairer but instantly when he saw that the "little squares" were red, he told me that there's nothing to do, end of discussion.
I came back home a bit sad because I knew I had to buy a new phone but then, this morning, I was in a mood like "I don't give a f***" so I put it in charge and I tried hard with the Power Button, and the Vol+/- when suddendly, I saw the screen blinking during one short moment. Then, I tried again and I finally saw the "Charging screen" but the screen was going on and off. I waited a bit and it turned on by itself, and it went until the PIN-code phase but there again, the screen was turning on and off repeatedly, and, trying hard again with the buttons, I managed to go until the homescreen, but seeing the screen turning on and off again with sometimes the menu to power off the phone/restart/etc... I realised that the real problem was about the buttons ! So I turned it off ( trying to press the button rapidly before the screen do it again) and now I finally understood evrything ! When it was doing the strange patterns with the LED and the vibrations, it was because there is some problem in the contact with the buttons (it was turning on and resetting by itself because of this).
Now that we finally know what the problem is, have you got an idea about how to solve it ? Do you think there is still some water around the buttons and that I should try to dry it again (and how in that case ? Rice ? Hair-dryer ?) ? Or will the buttons stay like that even without water remaining ? In that case, do you have any solution ?
Thanks again !
You can buy all the replacement buttons on ebay if you are confident enough, it seems that you're warranty has been voided by the water so that's out of the question. I would suggest buying a new battery at the same time.
replace the battery ..

i think the buttons is pressing power button and volume up by itself when it is charged.. pls help

Endless safe-mode loop after water damage

Hi all!
My phone got water damaged (a little bit, the back cover wasn't properly put) and the phone now turns on only in safe-mode, even if I reboot, pull the battery or do a factory reset. My volume-down key doesn't work now, if that could be the problem.
Does anyone know what I could do?
Thank you
Mine was doing the exact same thing, except my volume-down key acted as if it was being pressed down constantly. I spilled water on it while on a cruise and it wasn't the same. My phone would constantly mute and the volume overlay was constantly visible on the screen. I had the safe-mode on reboot several times, I'm assuming holding the volume-down during boot is what activates it.
My fix was pretty brutal, I popped the volume button off with a thumb tack, then uses tweezers to rip the volume ribbon cable out of the phone. I now have to go into the settings menu to adjust volume, but at least the phone is usable. My hunch is that water damaged the ribbon cable via the volume button.
The actual fix would be to replace the frame/back housing bezel for the phone. It's only about $8 on Amazon (http://amzn.com/B00K458DUK), however it requires removing the screen. My phone has been dropped a few times so I'm worried the screen won't survive a transplant. A replacement screen is $150, so I've just been dealing with no volume control for now.
I see... thanks for your input! I'm guessing mine is having the same problem. I'm not comfortable doing the brutal fix myself, but I don't know where I could take it around here to get it fixed.
