So here's what happened. I had my HTC One M7 charging without realizing that I had the screen always on while charging option (from sense 6 toolbox on AR HD 91.1 ) turned on. About 2 hours or more had passed before I realized and I went to check on my phone. First of all, the battery had become EXTREMELY HOT to the point that I couldn't even hold my phone for more than a few seconds because it was so hot. Second, I noticed that the charge was still at ~20% charge, even after more than 2 hours. Because the phone was so hot, I turned it off and let it continue charging. After some more time, I went to check on my phone. I booted it up and it had cooled down quite a bit, but the battery was still not charging!! Currently it is at 12% with the charger plugged in. I think the heat might've melted the battery or some other component. My phone isn't charging at all I am very worried that it'll never charge again without a battery replacement. Is there anything I can do to fix this, or is my phone completely dead?
Since your phone boots, it isn't completely dead. You might have to send it in for repair.

The other day I was in a hospital and my phone was next to the bed but the charger wire was tangled in the bed. So a nurse came up and rolled out the bed and the phone fell from quite high on the (hard) floor.
It still worked, screen wasn't cracked so I didn't think much of it.
But now, the phone can be charged with the charger. As soon as I unplug the charger there are 2 things that can happen:
1. The phone keeps saying it's charging. Other than that the phone is fully functional. Battery drain is much higher though, in 10 minutes I lose 7% battery.
2. The charging icon in the battery will flash on and off. When I switch off the screen, the lock-screen immediatly turns on and the text charging blinks, it's like someone is plugging in the charger and takes it out immediatly, battery drain is even higher when this occurs, I lose 50% within the hour, depending of what I'm doing.
Sometimes the problem is not there, the phone will function normally, but the problem will come back within 1 or 2 hours and usually when I plug in a charger and take it out later. Also, sometimes it seems the phone is not charging and the charge indicator will stay at a certain percentage but when I reboot the phone it it fully charged (according to the indicator).
First I thought it was an android problem. But when I switch off the phone the charging image appears as well and starts blinking, also the menu and back button flash on and off. It's also quite difficult to switch on the phone at this point and the battery image shows only the outline of the battery, not how much charge is in it.
So far I tried 2 other chargers, 2 other batteries (1 original Samsung and 1 after market). Rebooted the phone many times and left the battery out for an hour.
Anyone knows of what causes such a problem? Of course, the fall was the start of the problem. Could there be some pins bent in the usb socket of the phone?

I had a problem recently in which even though I kept my phone on charging (and it showed that it is charging), the battery percentage either remained same or it went down even though it was plugged in.. went to samsung and they said the usb port is damaged and they replaced it.. I think the same resolution will be for your problem
Mmm....makes sense. What does Samsung charge for that?

So i had what I thought was a small issue but as of 10 minutes ago it has exploded.
My battery was discharging whilst plugged in.
I took the battery to the phone store and he tells me the battery is fully charged, but on MY phone it reads YELLOW EXCLAMATION and dead.
Bought an extended life battery since that stock one was not lasting and was told yeah they die over time, its a year old yadda yadda yadda
Well that extended life did nothing more but charge and die
It read 100% when i left for work yesterday, came back a few hours later and it was dead.
I complained and the seller sent a new one, arrived today, had about 40% on the battery and I was going to put the stock rom back on there with Odin so I could mail it to Samsung.
Go to the market to get food, come home and the battery is dead.
*the phone is making the plugged in unplugged sound over and over by the way
Now the strange bit, the phone was turned OFF when I left so that it would not continue to discharge yet upon return the phone was ON!
THought maybe i didn't press OK so i turned if off again, left the room and like 2 minutes later I hear it making the low battery sound.
Why when the phone is off?
So it is killing the battery, and now the phone is turning itself back on?
I cannot flash stock rom so entertaining suggestions
Donate it to the concrete? :silly:
Do you have USB bug? (Charging icon while its unplugged, it turns on without touching it)
yeah, your charger might be broken/usbport etc,
you didnt mess around with any special custom kernels?

So my HTC One does something really weird sometimes and im afraid if this keeps going on something bad will happen to it.
since i got 5 months ago this has happened like 4-5 times. and i charge it every night. so, sometimes when I charge it and go to bed I wake up and check the phone and even though it was charging when I left it it has only charged for like 20% and even though its connnected to the charger the charging icon wont show. plus the phone is too hot. and i dont mean warm or hot on the back. I mean too hot to touch everywhere, not only the back. Everywhere it has aluminium its too hot. this has only happened 4-5 times and I immediately take it off the charger wait a bit to cool off and then start charging it again and everything is fine. While its hot no warnings pop up and the phone works just fine, but its extremely hot and even though its connected to the charger it doesnt charge. why is that?

Hey,
This might be a problem with the charger.
Try using the original charging set provided with the phone.
Is there anything you do with the phone that may be considered out of the normal when you charge it?
Worst-case scenario, this might be a hardware fault. In that case you should be able to claim it under warranty.
Good Luck
Something similar happens to me on occasion. It'll be plugged in but when viewing in/out mah, it actually shows it's draining. Less than when it was unplugged, but still draining although it says ac plugged in. (using battery monitor to view btw). When it does that, and it's left plugged in (like overnight), it's abnormally hot when I check it. I have to unplug it and then plug it back in (sometimes a few times) before charging levels go back to norm.

It happened on me for 1 or 2 times as well, the only different is mine is not really hot. After i flashed custom rom, it seems everything is fine. I guess maybe there are some bugs in the original rom. Now i am using the rom based on google edition. Good luck
I am using the original charger and it does this but it also have done this with a samsung charger i have used some times. something else that I noticed is that when I'm charging and using the phone sometimes the battery percentage drops.
Ever since Lollipop, my HTC One M8 has been a battery hog! I'm running Venom 4.x.x and my battery only lasts less than 7 hrs. Yesterday my battery completely died, I went home to charge and it won't turn on at all. The red charge light kind of flickers when plugged in and nothing when unplugged. It's been charging for 19 hours and still nothing. What could possibly be wrong? Is there any way to recover from this?
**bump**
Did you find a solution ? I had a problem yesterday withy phone I was flashing a mod and didn't put attention about battery levels , during flashing my phone went off and the battery charging light started flashing and displaying a battery on my screen . Since then I haven't been able to turn it on anymore, I keep it plug in the charger all night and nothing

I have a Moto X 2013 that, after replacing the battery with a supposedly new, OEM battery, refuses to charge past 3%. This phone is rooted and was rom'd with the Nougat xPerience rom, but I tried flashing it with Nougat Lineage as a troubleshooting test.
I replaced the battery last night without incident, and the phone booted and seemed to behave fine, and the battery had about 30% charge. The only issue I found immediately after replacing the battery was a battery app installed on the phone saying the battery hasn't been charged for -19000 hours, or something a long those lines (I can't remember exactly what it said, as I did not install the app, my friend did who I was fixing the phone for. I just remember it was some outrageously large negative number.). Thought it was weird, and maybe thought it was a software issue, so I booted to TWRP and wiped the cache and dalvik. Rebooted the phone, and the app reset to something along the lines of 500 hours. That is a bit more believable.
I plugged the phone into my laptop to let it charge (as it was the only way I could charge it at the time), my laptop saw the Moto, and the Moto said "Charging..." and "Android Debugging...", and thought it was working. I had to run an errand, and when I returned about an hour later, the phone hadn't moved a drop up or down. My laptop was asleep, so I assumed maybe it just stopped charging when my laptop shut off, and I was exhausted myself so I just let it sit on standby all night.
Morning came, and the Moto is dead. I plug it into the wall charger I was just using to charge my v10 with (brand new cord, made for data transferring and charging that I used once before with the old battery), and head to class, hoping it'll charge. Guess what? It didn't charge. Well, it did a little. It went up from 0% to 3%, and sat there. Annoyed, I unplugged and replugged in the phone. It came up with the white battery charging screen, switched to the Nougat "N", vibrated, then went to a black battery charging thing. Once there, the battery icon went up two squares, the screen flashed, and the phone died and stopped charging, then repeated itself a few more times until it went silent.
I started to think maybe my brand new cord was screwing up, so I grabbed another one I had and plugged it into my desktop. I had read on another thread that sometimes you can force the phone to jumpstart charging by plugging in the phone and holding down power + volume down for upwards of two minutes. I tried this, and it charged enough that I could turn the phone on again, but it wouldn't charge enough to do much more. I left it plugged into my desktop for a few hours, not allowing the desktop to fall asleep, and yet the phone was still not rising above 3 or 4% despite the fact that it says that it is charging. Oh, and the phone was on the whole time if it was plugged in, but the moment I unplugged it (Like the one time it got over 5%), it immediately shuts down.
I know I'll probably just have to buy another new battery for the dumb thing, but I am just curious to see if there is anything I can do to fix this, just because I cannot currently afford to buy another new battery (and my friend, who this phone belongs to, is getting impatient on getting it back.)
Thanks for any help!
I have the same problem, charging topping out at 3% with a "new" battery.
Did you change the battery? Did it work?
Thanks for your feedback.
(FYI, this phone is running the stock lollipop firmware.)
