Hello,
I live in India. I bought an HTC One from a seller on ebay, who has imported the phone from Hong Kong.
Few days ago, the phone's charging port stopped functioning properly. I took the phone to HTC Service Center to get the port repaired. But the repair person at the service center says that as the phone is from out of India, the charging port is not compatible with the one he has in stock.
He says he can put it in, but it may cause issues.
Can anyone please give me advice about this? What difference do connectors have and what issues can be caused due to this? The service centre guy says he cant say what issues may occur, anything may go wrong because of it...
Im sorry I know its a trivial question but I hoped that if anyone has any hardware knowledge about this, they could help me take a decision whether i should put in the "non-compatible" charging connector.
Thanks in advance

The charging connector is universal. Did you speak to the service rep or the technician?
Edit: are they doing it for free??

No, they are charging some amount, i guess some Rs. 500 or so
I spoke to the technician..
Try aftermarket repair there are also good technician can help you charging points are now same for all companies at least HTC won't use two different types

I'd say, don't go to an aftermarket technician. If HTC is taking only 500, get it done there. At least they'll disassemble and reassemble the phone the right way. Also, aftermarket parts aren't the same quality as the ones HTC will give you. I've bought an LCD assembly aftermarket, and there is a noticeable difference, between OEM and that (although it is 100% genuine, it just isn't as good)

I was considering taking it to an aftermarket repair centre but I had concerns about the way they handle the housing...unfortunately the HTC One is so difficult to open without damaging its outer body

So there wont be any issue about the non compatible charging port right? I will ask HTC guy to put it in then.

Hi I was at the beach and forgot my phone was in my pocket and stupidly walked into the ocean :crying:
I put it into rice for a few days and dried it off but it doesn't turn on. The only thing that happens is if I plug it into the USB, a green light blinks on and off and it keeps vibrating. What does it mean? Is it saveable?

I think your phone is bricked. Try looking at the posts on this thread and see if it solves your problem.

Yeah they do, judging by posts I saw on Sprint's community forum.
Thanks. Btw I'm actually thinking about getting the M8. I backed up my HTC One M7 on my Mac with HTC Sync. Can I restore my backup onto a new HTC One M8?

I'm 99% sure you can because according to this page
Back up your HTC phone to your computer so you can easily restore your backup to the same phone or to another HTC phone.

Does anyone know if Sprint can recover data from a water damaged phone like mine? I took a lot of photos on it during my trip to Europe but since it doesn't have an microsd card it's all internal. Just curious if anyone knows.

Yeah normally when it happens randomly like that it's a motherboard issue.
As with regards to diy repair, I've personally never opened a HTC One before so can't really advise how easy it would be but it is possible. Try looking for ifixit on you tube for an instructional video.
But personally if I was gonna try it I would swap the screen rather than the motherboard.
Check out the ifixit website here. https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/HTC+One+Teardown/13494

Depends on factory, what was MCU.
I can probably repair or buy your old units to develop on
I dont know what mcu it was.. maybe mtce-mx
I want to use the radio, so i need a repair or new mainboard
Quite possibly repairable. Try a local repairer?
No one wants to try it out...

Even with schematics? You're welcome to send them to me in NZ. From what I can see, a supply rail will be down.
