[Q] Screen on - Xperia Z3 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Z3c owners,
After an upgrade to LP-5.0.2, my screen acts weird. When phone is locked time to time screen comes on and does not turns off automatically, despite that my screen timeout is set to 30 seconds.
I have no idea what is causing that, thought that I could be triggered by notifications but after few test this idea felt.
Anyone has similar issue? Or any thoughts how to find whats triggers that screen on, and does not allows it to turn off?
Thanks

turning on the screen always takes me to today

Don't know if anyone has exerienced this but, everytime I turn the screen on the device shows the today screen, no matter what it's running. Not a big deal, but I used to turn off the screen for a few seconds when I wanted to take pictures in low light conditios and I can't do that anymore
It all began when I configured my exchange account and had to install Zenyee's Stayunlocked to avoid having to enter a password every 5 min (due to my company's security policies).
Anyone else has this problem?
thanks in advance

nope
nope. I already tried different settings there and it didn't change. I just noticed another funny thing. the screen turns on alone for a moment five seconds after I turn it off. but this only happens if I'm using the camera. Isn't it weird? It just flashes and turns off again....
any suggestions?
Anyone else has something to add to this issue? Has anybody else used zenyee Stayunlocked in a Kaiser?
thanks
Do you have Batterystatus installed? There is an option in the tool-tab:
"Show Today-Screen on WakeUp" Check if checked.

Screen not waking up after call ends or during call.

This started happening about two weeks ago. During a call when I pulled the phone away from my face in order to press the end call button, the screen did to wake up. I could not end the call. This has been happening quite regularly now. The screen simply does not turn on after or during a call. Even if the other person ends the call from his side, the screen on my phone does not start.
I was using the stable version of the official CM7 at that time so I flashed the rom again. Since that did not work, I did a clean installation of Mebitek's CM7 without restoring any backups. But I am still having the problem. I am now using the power button to end the call like a handicap person would.
I think something might be wrong with the proximity sensor or my battery. Since, I have absolutely no expertise of how the phone functions, I seek help from you guys. Please give me some suggestions.

Do u use a screen protector? I heard some might cause problems with proximity sensor.

I used to have this same problem. The problem seems to be a combination of the screen protector/case getting in the way of the ambient light sensor and therefore not allowing the phone to accurately measure ambient light, and the phone going into some sort of sleep mode. I usually wipe my ambient light sensor off, and adjust my silicone case to allow the light to come in, but the thing that solved the problem for me permenantly was running the small app called wakelock to keep the system from going into complete standby. I am sure that this solution affects battery life, but I still get 10-12 hours between charges which is enough for me.
This thread talks about a similar problem, and this is where I got the idea to try this fix for our problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1491223

No no no guys.. don't bother with reflashing and stuff, that's not the problem.. I had the same problem and I googled it for months until I've learned its a Samsung wifi hardware related problem and mostly Galaxy devices are affected. Something is wrong when phone goes in standby. It continues to work but you can't wake it and you have to reinsert battery to get it on again.
The solution is to install a tiny app called Wake Lock, it's there on market.. it keeps phone awake even when you lock screen. My phone doesn't shut off anymore and I can finally rely on it. I don't have to think anymore and check all the time if the phone is off and if I'm going to miss a call...
The alternative is to turn off wifi before you lock screen but I think that most of us need wifi on all the time to get mails and messages on time

I am of course mistaken. It is the proximity sensor that is malfunctioning due to the screen protector and case.

[Q] Phone turns it's display on itself?

Hi,
I have now since 3 Weeks my HTC One and noticed that sometimes the display turns on itself.
Yesterday it happend, that I wrote a mail to a friend, that contained some chars like "QUAJFK,,asdfkjl", so I think that the device turned on and wrote this mail in my pocket!
Is there anybody else with this problem?
Wakelockdetector is showing HTC sense which turns on the display! How can I prevent this?

This happens when the TV remote control app is running, so you don't have to fumble around finding the power button to keep using your TV!

This is the likely answer. If you leave the TV app running you'll notice it stays in your notification tray until you specifically close it. As part of this app the phone detects when it is moved and turns on, mimicking the behavior of a real remote (which you don't have to "unlock" every time you want to change the channel).

I don't have the remote configured and I'm not using the remote...
I think this happens with update of HTC sense!
The lockscreen is still there, but the sensitivity of the touch is to sensitive, that the phone can be "touched" through the pocket of my trousers!
I now have a lock screen with pattern security but I don't like this much!
On my previous phone (Samsung Galaxy Nexus) I didn't had this issue. The screen never turned on through the trouser the phone couldn't be handled!

That is weird. What do you do to fix it? just keep pressing the power button? or do you just wait and the screen eventually turn on? is it working meanwhile... like, can you lock yourself out on the pattern lock while the screen is off but supposed to be on?
probably totaly unrelated, but the nexus one have an issue with the amoled/digitizer. When the screen is on while charging (or on for longer periods without digitizer use) the digitizer will not work until the amoled is turned off/on again. maybe some crazy electro migration bug or badly spec caps going on on google+htc design for the n-one... maybe they haven't learned any lesson

Mine does that too sometimes, it did it most recently driving in the car. Have you tried wiping the screen? Sometimes if I make sure my screen is spotless, it's more responsive...don't know if it's placebo or not.
But you aren't the only one!

Im not sure maybe. Ill have to see what the screen does before it happens. When Ive noticed it my screen was off just sitting on the table and when I pick it up nothing happens.

I dont think it has anything to do with the screen though. Becuase ill pick up my phone and it wont turn on. What ive done is turn the screen on and off and then leave it for a few minutes and it just starts working again... pretty annoying but it happens very rarely

I think it doesn't work while in the car because it can't differentiate the pick-up motion vs. the motion from driving.
Not sure why it wouldn't happen sitting on a table though, unless it was just recently set down.

Screen won't stay off, keeps waking up

This has has happened to me 3 times so far while I am plugged in charging overnight. I'll wake up to see that my screen is on. If I hit the power button it will shut off, and then come back on in a second or two. Even if I flip it upside down so the screen is down, I can still see that the screen is still coming on. The only way for me to fix it is to reboot the phone. Anyone else experiencing this?

what your probably referring too is active display. Which if you want off. I also have off is under the moto app
No, that's not it. I'm not talking about how it will come on every 3 seconds when you have a notification. I'm talking about turning fully back on so I can see my home screen.

Nope, that isn't checked. And normally this isn't an issue, only a sporadic thing.
Happened to me again last night, woke up and noticed the screen staying on around 5am. I tried disabling the active display but it didn't stop the screen from coming back on after I shut it off. I did find that when I unplugged it from my charger, the screen stopped coming back on. Does this give anyone any clues?

Its something you have installed.

I believe Safe Mode is still in Android. Try it. Warning: it will break your home screen widget layout.
If it is something that I installed, how can safe mode help me determine what it is?

The same reason it does in Windows. You use it to narrow down what is causing it. If Safe Mode cures the issue, you know for sure its an installed app. From there, process of elimination.
Right?
Just got the phone and have had this happen a few times also. No apps installed that I didn't have on my previous phone.
After a bit more testing I have more information. It seems like it only happens when it is plugged in and has reached a full charge. Once I unplug the phone from its charger, the screen stops coming on by itself. This is still some kind of bug, there's no reason I shouldn't be able to keep the screen off even if it is fully charged and plugged in.

Well I didn't think it was something that effected everyone, otherwise I would have found a thread on it. I'm going to try using a different charger tonight and see if that makes a difference.

Fair enough. I still think its an app installed though.
By any chance do you have the notification enabled for when the battery is fully charged?

No, I don't.
Ive tried this for two nights and it doesnt seem like I've had this issue since using a different charger...
My problem turned out to be the button accidentally being pressed and the screen lock setting being set to "5 seconds" after hitting the button, as opposed to right away. So the screen was going off, it wasn't locking, and an errand touch of the side of the phone while moving it would make the screen come back on without seeing the lock screen again because it was within the 5 seconds that the setting enabled. I was not familiar with this setting being on my previous phone and the Turbo was set to this by default. Hope this helps.
I agree that it is a bug, however, I was wondering, is there a way to get rid of that screen entirely? Frankly all that screen does for me is waste the battery, so being able to not have it at all would be great.
