I was reading some threads in the Fire Phone section since I've been waiting on root for that device too, but someone discovered and posted about the new version of Kingroot (v4.0), and how they were able to root with it. I immediately downloaded it and tested it out, and after two tries, I gained root access on my Fire Phone.
So I thought, what if this would work on my AT&T Tab S 10.5 (T807A)? WELL IT DOES!
I have root access on my carrier branded/bootloader locked tablet. I was surprised at first at how easy it was, and at the end, Kingroot even had a prompt to disable or remove KNOX. I don't know if it worked, but I had no problem with installing Xposed and some nice modules.
THIS APP IS ALMOST COMPLETELY IN CHINESE. I know, it sounds a little scary, but after a day of running root, I found it safe to post about it here.
Please read the english guide for some clear instructions. The links are below and make sure you download the newest version. It may take a few tries, but use a root checker to see if it actually worked or not. KingRoot will install KingUser. After obtaining root, you can delete KingRoot and the blue icon app with the Chinese name.
UNTESTED ON OTHER VARIANTS BESIDES T807A! I believe it may work on the other carrier variants also.
I am not affiliated with the app nor deserve credit for what it can do, as I just want to spread the word that this works with our damn bootloader locked devices. If the people of KingRoot have a donation page, it might be that day to actually give thanks.
THE NEWEST VERSION (4.0+) WILL WORK. All you will need to do is press the Blue Button when you open the app, allow the installation of KingUser, and it will give root access. I verified it with a root checker and both my devices after multiple reboots. I installed SuperSu and updating the Su binary will FAIL.
YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS TO YOUR DEVICE. DOING THIS CAN POSSIBLY BRICK YOUR TABLET SO PLEASE BE CAUTIOUS! THIS WILL VOID WARRANTY AND TRIP THE COUNTER!
Official site for KingRoot:
http://www.kingroot.net/
Guide that I used in English:
http://androidxda.com/root-android-device-using-kingroot
DOWNSIDES:
1) Kingroot is in only chinese with no english version supported.
2) As of right now, I can not update SU binary with SuperSu, Kingroot installs its own app called KingUser, which serves the same function. (someone will eventually figure out how to make SuperSu work since we now have root)
3) Bootloader is still locked, DO NOT FLASH CUSTOM FIRMWARE OR RECOVERY!!!!! IT WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE!
REQUEST:
I need someone to make a backup of the AT&T stock firmware and recovery. I made a mistake with an app that messed with my recovery and now I'm in a bootloop.
If someone could please make a backup of each with Flashify or something so I can try with Odin in download mode, then I think it might be okay or I just found root and messed up my tablet.. lol
I made a backup myself but I was stupid and chose SDcard thinking it was referring to the external microsd card.
I NEED THE STOCK RECOVERY IMAGE for the most recent update for the ATT variant. (NK1)
I will keep the file links in this post for reference and in case someone wants it.
PLEASE AND THANK YOU!
That's sweet! As for firmwares, there are currently none I've found. Flashing can only backup recoveries. The only thing I can suggest is using samsung kies.
Just to confirm, your still on Kitkat correct?

Just extract the stock recovery from the stock Rom and flash with flashify.
Also I'm surprised Knox got tripped with this method.
I've had great success with other devices with kingroot, but it's never worked on the tab s.
If they have now found a working exploit then that is great news for locked bootloader devices.
Also if the android app fails don't give up, try the pc version. I've had the android version fail where the pc version had success.

Currently there is no place to download the AT&T stock firmware, which is why I need someone who roots their T807A to pull it for me and upload it so we actually have it. I've been looking all over the internet but no luck. The only thing I have access to at the moment is download mode, and I've been trying stock recovery.img I found for similar variants, but Odin is failing each time because of the locked bootloader..
Btw, installation from unknown sources needs to be allowed and it will ask to install KingUser. The first time I tried it, it didnt ask or work for me. The second time it asked to install and the root worked.

What did you use that corrupted your recovery?
By the way I just returned my T805 tab s to stock kit kat. The first 2 times I ran king root it froze at 20% then rebooted. The 3rd time it continued past 20% to 23%, it then rebooted and then after a short while the king root app restarted from where it left off.
It took a while to complete and at the end it said it had failed, BUT it hadn't! I checked and had root access. I then downloaded the kinguser app. After that any app could get root.
I would think that this method will work on any version. Not sure about lollipop though. My advice is if it doesn't work first time try and try again!
Here is the king root v4 app: kingroot v4
Kinguser v4: kinguser v4

I was messing around with twrp manager and I somehow ended up flashing some recovery. I don't even know if it was for tab s or not.
I was able to flash stock recovery for a different version on Odin and now it says I need to take it to the att store. I'm still able to get into download mode, but it won't let me get into recovery to factory reset. Hopefully a stock.tar.md5 can save me, otherwise I get a fail in odin

the AT&T and T-mobile version are actually Exynos processors and verizon/sprint is snapdragon.
KingRoot might only work on Exynos processor versions of Tab S. But then again, we have to wait til others are willing to test it out

Started with N900AUCUBMI9, rooted via RDLV (N900AUCUBMI9_OneClickBin)
accepted OTA update (i know) to N900AUCUBMJ5, lost root
Wanted root back, attempted RDLV again, got SECURE CHECK FAIL : cache, stuck in "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again"
Found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47411605
Flashed PIT ONLY, successfully booted up into MJ5, unrooted. Should have left it alone there. KNOX flag 0x0
Wanted root back, thought I could downgrade BL, AP/PDA, Phone, CPC to MI9 as suggested in above thread.
BL fails with SW REV CHECK FAIL : [sbl1]Fused 2 > Binary 1. AP/PDA, fails with SECURE CHECK FAIL : system. Phone successfully flashed to MI9. CPC fails with SECURE CHECK FAIL : cache
Stuck in "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again"
Flashed PIT again, phone tries to boot but "Process system isn't responding" after AT&T globe boot animation, then reboots
Attempted RDLV again, get SW REV CHECK FAIL : [sbl1]Fused 2 > Binary 1, presumably because the MI9 BL can't be flashed over the MJ5 BL.
I'm stuck folks. Any suggestions welcome. Am I just going to have to wait for a stock MJ5 package/files similar to the MI9 files in the thread above?
For those reading who were dummies like me and accepted the OTA update, lost their root, tried to re-root with RDLV: flash the PIT file ONLY from the above link and you should be back into MJ5, un-rooted.
Help please?
Well lets see here. I was rooted (Kingo) <Updated ver.
I saw the update.
Un-rooted with the SuperSU app.
Did the update
Re-rooted with Kingo.
Re-did all xposed/winam stuff.
Rebooted
Phone is on new firmware with root and I'm loving it.
The End.

yes, that's the way i should have done it (SU persist, un-root, OTA, SU root) but I didn't and now here i am.
I followed the info to flash PIT only and my phone rebooted. Now fc's allot of stuff. Can't get past it. Build number mi9, baseband mj5. Do you think someone will make an mj5 odin? Or any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Same here
Same situation here ;_; can you post just the Pit? the zip is taking forever for the fact that I just need an XML file.
ditto
+1 I was updated and rooted and decided to jack around with a data toggle in notification (/data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db) and here i am
So I flashed the .pit
which let me reboot.
However now I'm in a horrible limbo state where pen imput crashes in an infanite loop making anything on the phone painful to do.
I think it's because my PDA and CSC are MI9 but my phone updated to MJ5.
I tried recovery mode wipe and "reset Phone" in settings and the issues persist.
This lovely mismatch has also rendered my ability to install firmware via Kies imposible. Nulling my plan to just roll back to stock.
Anybody have an odin one click for MJ5? I'd rather be stock than inoperable.
I'm afraid to try the method listed above for Knox flag reasons. If rolling back to MI9 is unreliable and might throw flags.
Hope someone else gets further than I have soon.

Sweet. Your OP lead me to believe that you tripped it somewhere. Honestly I'm beginning to care less and less about it. I honestly think that with a full ODIN of the current OTA WE'd be back in the clear. The inability to roll back after The thing updated without my permission is frustrating to say the least. Coming from iOS I'm also a bit surprised by the lack of OEM firmware existing in the wild.

Might anybody have a stock unmodified /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db file that i can try loading with adb?
Resolved issue with at&t.
Couldn't handle waiting for SM-N900A stock firmware so I took my phone to AT&T retail store (I didn't have warranty with them). They referred me to At&t Device support center and told me that I have a manufacture warranty with samsung for 1 year and since i didn't have any water damage or such, just a boot loop, i can just exchange it for a "like-new" product and might ship between 6 business days.

What are you running right now Kitkat, Lollipop? If you are on N900AUCUCNC2, you can use Towel root https://towelroot.com/ or Kingo root http://www.kingoapp.com/ The only way to install custom rom is to have Safestrap install as the bootloader is locked.

You can't root OC1, but you can use Odin to downgrade to NC2 and root it. Odin v.3.10.6 http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3109599&d=1420980613. Once you Odin back you can use Towel root or Kingo root (links are posted above your post). Then install Supersu https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu&hl=en and run it, install Busybox https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox&hl=en open and install it, then Safestrap http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=7216. (You should make a backup once Safestrap is installed before you flash any Roms). Once you're done you can pick a Rom for your Note 3 http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/development Now you ever use Odin? http://www.samsungodindownload.com/odin-tutorial/ (The site only shows flashing the All-In-One file so you know). Use all 4 Odin files, N900AUCUCNC2 ODIN Files, BL https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=96042739161891602 AP https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=96042739161891890 CP https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=96042739161891603 CSC https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=96042739161891604
Brilliant! I'm rooted on Lollipop, and loving my Note 3 all over again. Thanks for the easy-to-follow instructions, that made it a breeze!
lil differant way
To shorten the process, I downloaded Chainfires app called FlashFire, Then Downloaded full OC1 odin tar and Full N2 Odin tar. I flashed Note 3 back to N2 with pc odin, I then transferred OC1 to my sd card installed Flashfire and used flash Fire to do a complete flash to OC1 while choosing to inject everroot. Saved tons of time and in my mind a lot cleaner. I also have ROM PRO TOOL BOX and Chainfires CF-Bench after installing all the apps I wanted and setting up my personal settings on the phone all together, I installed BusyBox Pro and did a smart install, then rebooted and performed a benchmark. Then opened Rom Pro Tool box and went to cpu and then the benchmark it recognized the benchmark from chainfires cf-bench app so I choose it and also clicked apply at boot. Rebooted and this Note is fast as light and reliable. FlashFire will make back ups for you if your worried about recovery and always a good Idea to have Helium and or Titanium to make a nandriod and a completed setup back up to store on your pc and cloud just in case. :fingers-crossed:
Does anyone know if Rooting directly from OC1 without a wipe is being worked on? :fingers-crossed: or should I just stop whining and just do one of the above options? :victory:

I have a s5active and just love the hell out of it. I'm still kinda green with the rooting but have done several successful roots, but development is way out of my wheelhouse. Unfortunately I haven't found a developer that had been working on the active. I'm still looking though. Thanks for doing the outstanding organization you did for the note 3. I'm going to be doing it as soon as the laptop comes back from the shop. My wife will like fire cat I think. I just found the thread I needed for my active lol only one rim but better than nothing.
Hey all, I've been away since the Skyrocket days. For ODIN, what state does the phone need to be in. I have USB debugging Enabled, but the ODIN says Failed. I downloaded all 4 files. Nevermind, had to put the phone in download mode.

Thanks for this.
My note 3 is on OC2 and running Android 5.0.
Does this instruction work for my phone?
Thanks
After reading dozens of threads I'm at a loss.
1. Can I root?
2. If I root, is my phone still going to work? Or will it become the latest victim of my Beowolf.
Odin twrp then install unikernel inside twrp. Will trip Knox so Samsung pay won't work anymore.

Ok thanks. Not concerned with Sam pay. Citibank and Wells aren't supported.

I finally found a routine and the right files needed to successfully acquire root, twrp, and custom ROM. Although, the only custom ROM Iv'e been able to boot and setup with all T-Mobile services intact and even the finger print security feature working, is the "OZOP_EDGE_v11_DOJ7.zip, thanks to stangdriver44".
Just remember you should back up the EFS and backup the phone using Samsung smart switch. If you need help, pm me. Id lay out the exact steps I took to get root originally and what it took to get out of a bricked phone, and finally to root and install a custom ROM.
I will type up what I did later today or tomorrow and post it in case anyone does the same thing to gets bootloops and bricks.
I have to attend to other chores now before I go back to work tomorrow, since I spent every evening for the last week and all day and night yesterday, trying to bring this phone out of brick.

You'd have to setup Cygwin software to make the zip an 'Odin flashable .tar.md5 type file', which I have not had time to play with, in order to flash supersu zip files onto the samsung phones.
I am working on a worksheet right now explaining what I had to do to install 5.1.1 firmware and root the phone. I am still looking back to remember exactly how I unlocked the bootloader. I did have to use an android terminal to map out the twrp recovery manual on the phone itself. I do know it would wise for anyone interested in this to backup the EFS before anything. I had to download a specific windows DOS software that does it in a couple seconds and stores it on your computer. It works for a number of other phones as well. Also need to download the newest Odin 3.10.7 software in order to work with 5.1.1 firmware without any problems. Also need to do a backup of whole phone with samsung smart switch "takes place of Kies software now". When I get home tonight I will get names and locations of everything and inform everyone. If you download the wrong DOJ7 software or firmware you'll mess up your device. It took me a week to find the right software downloads related to 5.1.1 in order to make everything work right. And I did everything within 15 minutes. Once I figured out the routine.
Once you update to 5.1.1 I know of no way to downgrade.
I do recommend going over to serio22's post -[Firmware][Bootloader & Modems][Odin] - G920T - DOJ7-
And download DOJ7 BL and DOJ7 modem and G920TUVU3DOJ7 (firmware). Download Chainfire's latest beta super su.
You can just flash unikernel to get root.
Possibly any of the other kernels too

Write operation failed.
Any idea's?

I recommend you root with the latest Supersu beta v2.62-3 zip. It will patch the stock kernel which was designed for your specific build unlike the unikernel. Just flash via twrp.

More accurately trying to Odin TWRP.
I have been having a really hard time rooting my Galaxy S6 that was updated to 7.0. I keep finding a lot of stuff for the SM-G920F, but I don't want to screw up this phone by trying it. I have attempted to flash TWRP with Odin 3.12.10 which always results in Complete(write) operation failed. Everything I've read says I need to install that first. I have both Kies installed (for most up-to-date drivers) as well as separately downloaded drivers from Samsung's website.
Note: I have downloaded twrp-3.1.1-0-zeroflite.img.tar and checked it with its md5 file to make sure it was correct. I also have N920_Nougat_Root_SuperSU_No_kernel_included.zip but I haven't tried anything yet because I'm apparently not supposed to until I have TWRP installed.
I've rooted phones before, I've installed CFW before, and I've even developed some android apps before, but this is stumping me. Not sure what to do at this point.

There is currently no known root method for g920a on 7.0. afaik attempting to downgrade to old enough firmware to attempt root will result in failure/brick.
This is the current state of root for this device.

I appreciate the information! I guess it explains why nothing worked. Makes me feel better anyway.
I rooted my SM-G530W Galaxy with Android 5.1.1 and it worked great until I tried to install Xposed.
Well after hours of work and gigabytes of files downloaded I'm still stuck.
Here is where I am at this point. I can't get the recovery screen, only the download screen so I can still flash CF-Auto-Root successfully but the phone just stops at the animated samsung screen after reboot again.
dr.fone won't even detect the device but ODIN and Kies3 do.
Uninstalled KIES3 to avoid possible conflicts with ODIN
I downloaded sdk tools for Windows but can't figure it out.
Lastly I downloaded a factory ROM and I've tried to flash it with ODIN which fails every time. ODIN checks the MD5 file and says it's ok but seems to fail after "NAND write start". Seems weird that CF-Auto-Root still works but the factory ROM won't but I really don't know much about that.
So ANY help will be much appreciated folks. Thank you very much, Wally.

Thanks but I was just messing around with ADB and I get an "unauthorized" message from the devices command so I think it may be boot locked.
Just something else to work on. Any Ideas ?
Thanks again
