About that clear cover case.... - Galaxy S6 Edge Accessories

Having used S view covers since the Galaxy S4 days with the one on the Note 4 being the most advanced and the dot view case for the Note 4 being the coolest, I was excited to try the clear cover case on my S6 Edge as it looked totally different and has an msrp of 10 euros more..60 instead of the usual 50 euro s view cover.
Where do I start? no music control, no flashlight, cant read messages, no pedometer or even weather.
In the sun light today I almost blinded myself and the clock is almost invisible. The thing atracts finger prints like crazy and scratches as if made out of butter.
You can use as a mirror, see the time and take phone calls and notfications. So I paid 10 euros more to get less. All while the cheaper S6 (flat) gets both the S view cover and clear view.
And about the design....i cant decide if looks good or cheap. Sometimes it looks really cheap and sometimes in the right conditions it doesnt. Am I the only one that feels this way?
Its clearly the phone that does all the work, would love to get basic music controls and a flashlight. Samsung could add these features in a firmware.
Simply doesnt do the s6 edge justice.

Agree, I have used the official clear case for a few days, my rank is 7 out of 10.
Clearly, it can answer the phone without open the case, in an other word, the touch function is fully work when you close the case. Therefore...
Just answer the phone is not enough, I hope Samsung could add more functions without open the case.

To dot, or not to dot?

I find the dot view case interesting, but just not sure it's for me. I'm currently using an "Urban Armor Gear" case for my m7 and looking at cases for the T-Mobile m8 that I'm going to get. The uag is the best case I've ever used, but the tech nerd in me wants to try the newest and coolest. The dot view case almost seams samsung gimmicky to me. Opinions?
The dot view is cool but to me, that is it.
Many have complained that it does not fold back flat so you either have to push really hard or it is springy and impossible to type on. Is it cool, yes, but for me it's form over function.

ive had it for two days now and i havent had any problems typing with the front folded over. its actually a pretty great case
Honestly it's really annoying to use and I prefer a flapless case but the dots are cool.
I'll most likely return/sell it.
I like it I've used it since the second day I had the phone and the way it looks is beast. I'm used to flap cases since my s3 so they aren't new to me I've gotten used to them but the way this one feels is so much better then those so it just depends on the person
If you want it you have to throw one handed operation completely out the window.
Not to dot...

Thanks for the responses. I've ordered a uag case for the HTC One m8 I haven't even bought. I highly recommend these cases to anyone
Well, I tried really hard to like the Dot View case the past couple of days and it's going to Verizon. The novelty wore off. It didn't hold the phone as well I want it to. One drop and I can see the phone flying out of the case sliding down the floor *shudder*. The lint was driving me nuts and so was the flap. I'm going back to the Otterbox Commuter until Spigen ships the Slim Armor.

I agree. Used UAG on my SGN, SIII, M7 and finally broke down and spent the 35 bucks for the black UAG after trying about 6 other cases.
I just don't like flip cases for my phone. I also think the dots will get full of dust dirt over time. As was said, there was no way to type with one hand with the Dot View. The back was too "springy" when folded back. Maybe that will break in over time but was just not for me. It is pretty cool looking though.
Went ahead and returned it.
Impossible to use one handed and even was hard to use with two hands because of how springy the flap was.
It didn't seem like it would protect it well either. The back was cheap plastic and the sides were exposed.
The dot feature is fun but burns some battery and most features didn't even work (swipe down to voice call and some icons).
Not worth the $35 I spent on it and definitely not the $50 it retails for.

I agree with everything you said. BTW, swipe down to voice call is a setting in Motion Gestures that has to be checked. I thought it wasn't working either until I found that setting.

I have mine checked and it still doesn't work. As soon as I swipe down the voice command come on then immediately goes to weather.

I consider the case unusable. At least it is unusable in a practical sense...I gave mine 24 hours and decided it was a no go. The M8 is flat out stunning...dot case, not so much.
I would like it but not getting it because it would not offer enough protection IMO looks cheap too.
I got mine yesterday. I am going to give it a few days and try it out but my first impression is, not super positive. This should be a $10-$20 accessory at best. I paid $45 on pre-order. But I am going to give it an honest try as I have never used a flipcase before which could be part of my problem.
It feels really nice, the soft touch is smooth and it looks sexy but unless there are a lot of software upgrades coming for it I don't really see the value add, and it certainly does not justify the price.
The one complaint I've seen in this thread that I kind of dipute is the landscape camera use difficulty. There is so much bezel on the top and bottom of this phone I had no issues recording stills and video last night in landscape mode.
Pros:
-Looks pretty classy
-Feels nice to the touch
-Autoscreen off on close is nice since HTC did not include a gesture off
-Swipe down to voice call gesture with case closed seems kind of usful.
-Gimmicky, you can show it to your co-workers and they are generally impressed.
Cons:
-Very little drop protection
-expensive
-no more one handed operation. I have pretty big hands and I tried for 20 mins last night to come up with a way but it is clunky and awkward at best. It is doable with my left hand fairly easily but I am right handed..
-Does not fold back flat which makes one handed use feel weird even after you get the cover opened or when setting phone down on flat surface.
-Only supports a couple HTC apps, if you have the Google edition M8 it pretty much just shows you the time and weather/temp icon. I actually had to flash back to my stock based rom last night as I've been running SinLess and this cover baiscally did nothing on the GPE rom.
-The touch sensitivity seems a little clunky. The double tap to wake without the case works just OK for me usually. But the double tap gesture with this case on seems to be more of a quadruple or more tap as the first time I double taps doesn't usually wake up the display. Coming from the LGG2 this is kind of a bummer as that phone's knock on feature was almost flawless.
All that being said, I am going to use it for at least a week and see if I can get used to it. And I am going to keep it and see if HTC updates the Dot View app in the coming months.

Completely agree with your assessment. The price was a big downside to the case. if it was $20, I could live with the shortcomings and just use it on occasion.
Agreed ^^^ I paid $25 with my work discount but had to remove my bodyguardz ultra-thin tempered glass screen protector as the flap wouldn't close flat.

So the flap on the case doesn't stay open whilst using it one handed?
I don't want to be folding the flap around the back of the phone every time I use it..?

Getting the Dot View case was a mistake

Ever since I purchased the M8, I've been wanting to get the Dot View cover because in pictures it looks so cool. I have also seen a lot of videos on YouTube and it definitely looked impressive, despite some of its downfalls which were pointed out in the videos but I thought I could live with them. When I went to the HTC store last night, I wanted to try it before buying it but that wasn't possible because the box is sealed and they didn't have any ones that were open, for instance, and for $60 USD it wasn't an easy decision to make since it's just a COVER! Anyways I decided to bite the bullet since I've always thought about buying it and just going ahead and doing it. As soon as I installed it on the device, I noticed the very first problem - the Glass screen protector I have installed causes it to not close properly.
The case has magnets that allow it to fully close on the screen, but the screen protector I have installed (which I am not going to remove for a cover) blocks it from doing that. The second thing I noticed is that the rubbery front makes it uncomfortable sliding it and out of your jeans' pockets whereas plastic or hard rubber makes it easier. The third is that it doesn't properly fold on the back since the HTC's back is not straight - I already knew about that problem from the videos but I didn't think it would be that annoying. Now you can barely type on the device unless you're an expert one-handed typer (which I definitely am not). It also makes it uncomfortable to play games and use the camera.
Last but not least, the Dot View itself is not as good as I expected it to be. It only shows the time and the weather in Celsius (22 degrees, for instance) but the text itself is far from being clear, I actually have to concentrate in order to make out the time and the weather. In the pictures the text looks very clear, but in person it is not at all. I have tried different themes, same thing. I'm starting to think I ended up with a couterfeit cover (but I highly doubt it since I bought it from the only authorized HTC reseller in Egypt and the case's box has the barcode on it and everything) but then again maybe the whole 8-bit, retro style text is the reason for that.
I came across an app called Dot View M8 Mods but unfortunately it is a paid-for version and my internet visa card expired and I'll have to wait for the renewal so I can buy it. All in all, I wouldn't recommend this case to anyone who actually uses the phone frequently throughout the day. I must say it makes it easier to answer/decline phone calls and of course it is very protective since it covers the front AND the back, but everything else could have been made much better. I must say that the M7's Flip Cover is a thousand times better than the M8's Dot View flip cover.
Thread Cleaned of the nonsense
Have you guys heard of the expression "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."? Well, that applies here as well.
In future, if you're annoyed or angered by what someone else has written and feel the need to reply in kind, I suggest you take some time away from your computer or mobile device and rethink what you're about to post.
If you still feel tempted, still don't post it as it will more than likely turn out worse for you.
I'm not saying you have to agree or be happy with what others write but constructive criticism exists for a reason.

Well, i used it, and using it since 3 months now.... I had to remove the thick glass protector, yes, but i bought a 0.3 mm thickness Rhino shield, which is bit expensive, but a very good screen protector. The cover just sticks to it very well.
About the clarity, the text is properly aligned, as shown in the pics and youtube vidoes. No issues at all. If you don't select any theme for dot view, it will show the weather icon as well.
Holding the phone was a bit difficult for a day or 2, but now i have learnt the technique.... Clip the cover with 2 fingers, you get to hold the mobile easily. The rubber finish on top is good actually, and can be cleaned easily with some solutions to give it a brand new look.
The only downside of this cover is its price.
actualy, i thought the price was really good:
it came free with my phone
as a novelty its fun and everyone thats seen it so far has been really impressed.
practically, when its on the phone it does provide a nice grippy feel and its nice to flip it open with one hand for a quick check.
it will provide protection from tiny scratches on the back but also its really annoying when its on the desktop and i want to actually do something.
when its folded back on the desk and in landscape mode it wobbles like its on springs and is impossible to type on.
i always end up just removing the case. luckily its really to remove and hopefully will survive being removed many times.
it is good that i can remove it without unplugging the usb
having used it for a week now i would not buy one.
its a good idea that needs a mark 2 still with some means of flipping closed also folding back solid as a desk stand.
my 2c.

I got the dot view and also very not pleased.
First of all - it's not even a good protector. The sides are completely exposed and the aluminum scratches very easily, but obviously you know that if you're gonna opt for a slim case like this.
The real problem is that the flip cover doesn't really close all that well, it remains a bit 'lifted' (may have to do with my thick Zagg Glass screen protector, but it's still an annoyance) - which in turn means that to use the dot-view features I have to push down the flip cover and operate it with another finger. That by itself pretty much defeats the purpose of the feature.
The dot-case features are actually not bad (especially when coupled with the relevant Xposed mods), but the case itself is a disaster.
I would love to see a 3rd party case that actually offers good protection, a better flip cover - and the dot interface (shouldn't be that hard to achieve).
I agree with all your points. I have a thick glass screen protector installed and it makes it impossible to close it the flip itself. I found those Xposed Mods you're talking about but they seem to no longer work (or is it just me?). I am talking about this one specifically: http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.mohammadag.dotviewmodsforhtcmate
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mohammadag.dotviewmodsforhtcmateunlockkey&hl=en
Whenever I attempt to use it, it tells me that I have a modified HTC Dot View APK and I need to remove it and redownload the stock one from PlayStore, which I have done several times to no avail. I'd love to have those extra features if possible?

Strange, it works fine for me.
Try this one.
That said, it's useless with the case being this.... flimsy.

Doesnt stay closed all the way, need band or magnet.
Gets finger prints easily (came with gunk from the protectors samsung put on)
i dont think the hinge will last long
It looks nice tho. Got mine from tmobile since samsung wont sell u any yet on the us site
at the time of purchase tmobile only had silver on their site.
The color is nice, if it wasnt for space for the camera it would look like a silver s6 instead of black. The reflection is also nice because i usually use the front camera to see myself/keep up my appearance.
I had a samsung flip case before and it didnt last long, thats why my expectations arent high but non the less the case looks very nice.
So if u want a nice looking flip case that isnt very protective and dont mind the cost go for it just keep in mind samsungs record of low quality flip cases
Looks good,
I got the black one
Mine stayed closed initially but as I've now started using it more and folding it back during use, it's become more and more unclosable.... or rather staying closed.
Finger prints - agreed but then again it is a clear plastic although I do have a habit of wiping hands with baby wipes when at work at a lot so I tend to have less oils in my fingers to put on the case.
My S5 clear view case was similar in terms of finger prints on the window and hinge but it never broke.
Case itself does wow many geeks at work thats for sure. I think it's a clever design and only realised the other day you can answer/hang up calls with the flip being closed which is excellent

I like the auto wake/sleep now. Its fun
Wish u could do more with the screen closed tho
Got few questions, if any can answer?
- How long does the clock stay awake when open and close the cover? Any way to wake the clock without open the flipcase or setting to set how long time to display the clock when flipcover is closed?
- Does Nightclock works with flipcover closed or Edge features works? Infostream, Peoples Edges, Edges Lightning?

Few seconds on mine (maybe adjustable?)
Ths edges arent visibld, but upod turning on nightclock and closing the flipcoverit it appears the time stays dimly on till ur nightclock turns off
i wasnt able to get inforstram or anything but im assuming if u receive a call edge lighting will work
Has anyone else noticed that when you close the case the lock-screen with the clock that it shows doesn't have a black background? For me its kind of a blue background. I don't know why it wouldn't use black, as it would save battery.
It doesn't work
Has anyone else had the issue where the clear view case doesn't have any functionality? By that i mean opening and closing the case doesn't change to the clock and auto lock the screen. I can just see the normal wall paper when I close my case.

Samsung Clear View Case for S7 Edge - will you risk using one ?

So I preordered an S7 Edge and I am now looking for a case. The ideal for me seems to be the official Clear View Cover, so I can see the always-on screen through the transparent front plastic panel.
However, I read many horror stories about the official clear view cover for the S6 Edge scratching the screen.
One option would be to use a film protector on the screen together with the case, but it would just be too much for me and the screen protector would probably need replacing every month or so if the case would still have the scratching issue.
I wonder if Samsung did something to avoid this with their new Clear View cover for the S7 Edge ? What do you think ? Should I risk ordering it ? It is quite expensive compared to other options.
It's mostly user error becuase, but either way I don't like folio cases so I won't be getting one.
issue is when the cover is closed the cover slides on the glass... and since it's not felt or soft touch, it grinds up the dust/dirt that might be on the screen...
Believe me the S6 Edge Clear View case scratching the screen is not user error. There's a whole thread with the details. My screen got scratched the first week, and I returned it to Samsung to have a new screen fitted. After that it came back with a thick and ugly screen protector that only covered the middle third of the screen and the message "if you leave that on you can keep using the cover". Needless to say it came off and so did the cover.
Now I have the same dilemma as the OP, my phone supplier (Telia Denmark) messed up and promised delivery of my S7 Edge this week, but they can only get it next week so they gave me a DKK 500 (£50) voucher for their accessory shop - this would cover a Clear View cover for my S7 Edge but I'm not buying it if it has the same problems as the S6 Edge one did. The alternative is to buy something unrelated, but the only thing I really need is a wireless charging pad which they unfortunately don't stock..
So if anyone familiar with the issue has access to one of the new S7 Edge Clear View covers, I'd like their opinion on whether they have done something to fix this issue. The main cause was that the inside of the front cover was extremely hard plastic, and that there was play so the front cover could move around and drill tiny particles into the glass when it was kept in the pocket. I suppose there'd be two ways to fix this, either coat the inside in some soft material or eliminate the play of the front cover against the screen when it's closed.
I have my S7 Edge in an official Clear View case and I can't for the life of me figure out how to make the damn phone keep the always on display showing when the case is closed. No matter what it just goes into sleep mode.
I really hope it's something I'm doing wrong otherwise it's a bit embarrassing for an official accessory to behave this way.
EDIT: Forgot to say, I can see daylight between the case and the screen when it's closed over. It feels soft but I can see how if some grit got in there and it was in a tight pocket or something it could cause scratches. But that would be true of any case.

Thanks for the reply - I guess the sleep mode thing is just a bug that'll be fixed in an update, because it's listed on the Danish Samsung website as one of the features that you can see the "always on" display through the case.
The main point here is that you say it feels soft - that's definitely NOT the case on the S6 Edge case, which feels completely hard. So it sounds like they have changed the material, in which case I might give it a go!

I think I might have used the wrong word. I think smooth is a better word to describe it, the material is definitely still hard.
apparently the s7 edge clear view case has been redesigned to prevent it scratching.. not sure how true that is though.. it looks like there's a little circular felt sticker on one corner..

Thanks for this - however, what looks like a felt sticker in the corner I think is just the magnet that the phone uses to detect that the cover is closed, there's a similar one on the S6 Edge cover.
The video does seem to suggest that the issue has been fixed, but I'd still like a 100% confirmation before I order one - I ended up going back to the cover on my S6 Edge after I my screen got bit scratched anyway, and now after about a year there are literally hundreds of those small circular scratches on my S6 Edge display. Don't want the same thing to happen to my S7 Edge
I have the s7 edge and also bought the clear view cover today. Not sure but i think they tried to fix it by lifting the cover from the screen. Only the edges seem to touch the cover. The screen itself has a space to the cover. The magnet in the corner seems to still rub on the screen. But we will see. I have a mich bigger problem! The always on display is deactivated as soon as the phone is in the cover and closed... the clock appearence changes and goes off after some secs.... i was not able to fix this till now. And as the new always-on feature is the best for me, i will give back the cover if this is a general issue and will not be fixed soon.

Wow that's bad.
I got my S6 scratched and thought long and hard when it came to my s7 but did not as I got a shop to open the case and found the same flex on the case that causes the scratching issue.
It is things like this and exploding phones handled poorly that loose customers.

Can anyone please help me to find, where in menu od S7 Edge can be found possibility to activate or disactivate Clear View Cover option?
In my previuos Samsung phone it was named S.View and was located in Accessories menu.
Using it and truly speaking it's cool. Using it with screen protector so no need to worry about scratch.

Note 20 Ultra and Screen Protector I'm Using

I just wanted to share with XDA the SP and case I'm using because I like how they turned out and I know how daunting it can be to choose what to buy. I'm not getting anything from this and have no contact with the sellers. I purchased these with my own money and have no relation to the sellers whatsoever.
Here are pictures of my N20U with them: https://photos.app.goo.gl/V5mkzYDKZDuzC9KS8
Here's the links to buy them: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08CDG284H/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I like how the black case looks with the chrome finish on the white N20U. Samsung should have made a black and chrome finish N20U. I also own the white rubber Samsung case
and the brown leather Samsung case, but this looks the best imo. This case has a nice feel that provides some grip, but it doesn't feel like rubber. It's a good quality case that is definitely worth the price. I've bought many cases on Amazon over the years and this one rates as one of the best I've tried. As you can see in the pics all the cuts and holes line up nicely. It's easy to put on and take off. I have no complaints about this case.
The Unique Me SP's are nice but not perfect. I also used one on my Note 10+ and this one is better quality. It feels smoother and the spen glides nicely on it, and doesn't have as bad of a line in the middle. These style protectors can leave a faint line in the middle due to them being TPU and the nature of how they are installed. This one is so faint I couldn't get a picture to show it even though I was trying to. You'll never notice it when using the device and can only see it at certain angles with the screen off and the light hitting just right. The one I installed on my N10+ left more of a line in the middle but it never bothered me because it also wasn't noticable when using the device. The fingerprint reader works perfect still, I had no issue installing it, and as you can see it's 100% bubble free. I see people in the reviews complaining about installing these protectors, but I find them super easy to do. The steps are straight forward and work flawlessly if followed properly. I honestly do not know how people screw it up. The only thing I do different is I use zeiss lens cleaning wipes since I always have those on hand. They work much better than the wet wipe provided in the SP kit.
Anyway, I wanted to share this with XDA since I was very happy with the results and I know others may want a similar setup. Goodluck and comment if you buy them, or have a setup you'd like to share.
