I updated my note 4 tmobile via over the air stock update for lollipop , but now i don't get the battery life i used to have on kitkat , i am running into some issue with IMS Service using Cpu , i use the application system pannel lite and there my Cpu usage is not constant it always used to remain under 6 , now the IMS service things is using Cpu now and then , i am unable to figure out what's happening , I cleared cache it didn't help then finally did factory hard reset still no help IMS is using cpu every 5sec , wifi calling is off location is off whatever i do it's giving ping to CPU and running my battery as in battery stats i see cpu awake when the screen is off
see the image , this is the service and the CPU usage is not that much but it's keeping cpu awake every 10sec , this is more than even Facebook app or others , and when i did hard reset , before installing any app it was still doing this

After all this time, it's still happening with ims service? Or have you been resetting your phone frequently? Anyway, you could try and disable that service and see if it is important or not. Cause usually if you just use your phone for a few days, those services start to wind down.
Don't use your phone ? i did not get this part , you are saying let them do and ignore them what are they doing ? and it will settle down ?
It cannot be disabled. I cannot find this culprit is i guess in all T-Mobile lollipop because i got another note 4 and it's doing the same , i use system pannel liye app , not using wifi calling , turned off tmobile applications , even turning them on does not help.. Android os is high keeping cpu awake , android system is always high LOL .. lollipop is not giving me more then 4 hour screen on time :-\ IMS Service is crazy on cpu usage if i see through system pannel lite more then other commonly used apps and i cannot find anything related to it on internet

If I read ur screen shot it used a total of .01% . I really don't see the issue. Shut off all the sync and I bet you it goes away but then again so will facebook and your email and everything else that makes ur phone worth using. A bunch of people are getting no more than 4hrs of sot. It is the way lollipoop is acting. Maybe tmobile will release a small update to fix lollipop memory leak that is a known issue. I see nothing wrong with your screenshot. If you want use better battery stats or wakelock detector to show way more info then ur showing fine post then we can get a better understanding what you have running on your phone.
SO i let the IMS service on the side and today i found another main culprit ,
it's a process called " com.google.android.gms.persistent " This is not stopping Lol and it is way more then IMS Service , i never noticed it before but this thing is not stopping , i updated via kies software to lollipop , should i just flash stock lollipop again via odin on this version ? I guess this google.android.gms.persistent needs help

Google wakelocks are a pain. Again screen shot all from better battery stats or wakelock. That is being used by an app
So no luck still ... i went back to kitkat but it's very slow and came back to lollipop .. where ever i flash it from same issues ...
Alright but now i have found out my google play services have some issue , it's not my device i got a new one flashed lollipop on both over the air and also by odin same issue ..
persistent service of Google play services never stops on my device. I have tried everything left location on , no effect . left location off no effect . location report on or off no effect , no backup is being carried out everything is off , Google settings fully checked.. So this persistent service is always on , force stop google play services my cpu goes normal and as soon as i open any app linked to Google it starts and the thing is it does not stop at all ..... i use an application system pannel lite , over there i see the persistent service always running and never let's my cpu stable ..

Try wiping phone and internal sd card. Then download apps and test. No back ups. Bet you have a hung up app. Also check all ur settings from scratch.

Plus u never posted all screen shots asked for. Can't really help if ur not gonna give all the info us guys need to help you. Better battery Stats. Use the app to help u
Boss i didn't root yet as i need warranty on it so i cannot provide better battery stats , this is my second note 4 , i don't backup any app i have even disable back up application data in settings , no sd card in the phone , basically it's something with the play services persistent ..
As of now i just enabled all the tmobile applications and my location is also on , right now i don't see persistent it just stopped and CPU acting amazing but i KNOW after few mins without changing anything i will see persistent again constantly running .. i need info on this persistent thing whatever i give it location or no location it is realated to something .. it just hangs up somewhere ..
Lol while typing this i didn't change anything just went back to see and it is running again constantly Nothing was changed , just turning location and tmobile apps made it stop and it's back after 5mins , if i force stop Play services it stops as it's a part of play services but comes back on in 5mins

So i am now using the Verizon note 4 and i see the same Persistent Google thing in this one too , but while searching for what was going on , i found if i turn the auto brightness off the PERSISTENT STOPS , when i turn the auto brightness on it comes back on .....
But this persistent is not stopping on my Tmobile phone which i want to use , why is a Google play services persistent connected to brightness on note 4 verizon ? and i just want it to stop on my Tmobile which i cannot stop like it stops on verizon with just turning the auto brightness off :'( what is happening ...

Really it's been over a month and nobody is helping me , i have been using android from years i cannot root this device ! this is a simple bug i have noticed in both my verizon note 4 and tmobile note 4 , it is gsm.persistent Google play services , nothing is on on both devices whatever i do it's there stuck not letting my cpu stable specially on.Tmobile if i force stop play services it stops and then comes back and keep running , i am unable to find details about this persistent thing , 3 times i have factory restored and nothing was backed up from anywhere ...
Very weird thing this persistent stops on Verizon note 4 when i turn off auto brightness wow what has that to do with play services ?? and on T-Mobile this thing just never stops ,, please use this same application and check if it's there on your people phones too , system pannel lite is a great app to see CPU usage with all apps .. and i have posted a screenshot in earlier comment's my gsm.persistent does not stop ,,, what is this thing i get 3 hours screen on time with this phone !! it was never on kitkat ! and this is not on my friends note 4 either he has a Verizon one , and it's auto brightness has nothing to do with it too

Please i am strugling with alot of issue another one is ipc wakelock which only happens sometimes but when it does it ruins the battery
And the last there is some issue with my calendar , it keeps working like crazy , i had it syncd with facebook but when i figured out its eating battery i removed my sync account deleted data and cache from calendar but no help , i stopped calender sync from every account and cleared cache and data no use, it starts again and keeps running like anything. Even when i deleted my facebook calendar sync from accounts, when i rebooted my device the first error i get is to log into facebook so apps can be syncd.. Which i turned off from everywhere but calendar is not letting it go.. Please these have made my phone going crazy and i cant handle them.
The mmc wake lock may be your sd card. Take it out for a while and see if it stops. If it does, it needs to be formatted/repaired. If it doesn't stop, it may be the internal sd but probably not.
The ipc wakelock... Good luck my friend. It drove me nuts and ended up factory reseting. It has to do with location services/gps.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using xda app-developers app
yes i took sd card out the mmc did not stop i rebooted the phone the mmc did not stop , i dont think it has anything to do with sd card as it only starts when wifi is connected.
This mmc one is not stopping at all now from 2 days. I somehow stopped ipc one by turning on gps then location service for 2 3 minutes than i turned them off and ipc went away..
There is one more issue with calendar and android.acore they are somehow related, now there is some issue with calendar and i did everything but the calendar is not stopping , i switched off facebook sync with it and as soon as i turn my phone on it gives me an error to log into facebook to sync apps , but i had it turned off by its stuck somewhere , deleted facebook installed it again but no luck at all..

Hi. I have found the same problem with mmc0:0001:2 on my device and crazy wakelock generated by it. I found information about mmc0 is internal memory, mmc1 is external memory and mmc2 is wifi.
The problem continues during wifi enabled and disabled. The repair of uSD card finished with no efect. The last I booted to TWRP and repaired system and all ather possible to repair partition. It helped. Problem solved.
Just got my Dev edition. Upgraded to 4.4.2 and after a while to 4.4.3
All seemed fine until i noticed that Google play books used 40% of the battery... Weird since i opened it, scrolled the list and closed... It wasn't even in the recent app list...
I killed it and added to the disable list (i use fbreader anyway)... Now today (second day with phone) the same happened with YouTube...
It used 30% of the battery. I watched a10s clip... App info said 10s foreground... 30 min background... And again, it wasn't even on the recent app list to be closed. Just went to apps and force closed.
Now I'm worried that this is a thing with everything Google (which honestly i can disable all but gmail and maps) or the OS...
Anyone getting the same? I'm not sure what to search for to find similar threads...
I'm guessing this is either common or i have a ducked device since i got it twice for the 2 days i have it...

Ugh that's really weird. If you're rooted it will be a lot easier to fix but for now reboot the phone and use it like that for another day. Sometimes the OS and apps need time to settle. For example I did a fresh flash two days ago and my Google services had a 1 hour and 13 minute wakelock yesterday where as today it's behaving very well. But YouTube doing that is weird. Never auto update your apps as 85% of updates are crap across the board. Try going to apps under settings and click uninstall updates for YouTube. This should revert YouTube to the version that came with 4.4.3, unless that's already the latest. But yeah for now try and "tickle" YouTube by logging out, wiping cache and data for it under settings/apps and log back in, see if it starts behaving. I'll monitor this thread to try and help.

Thanks. I did all that yesterday and rebooted. So far everything seems fine. So i think you're spot on. Tho it is a bad sign to have those bugs
The phone did lock up twice on me after that.
Once playing webm on chrome. But i just disabled it a while later. Firefox beta ftw! ( ff is the Only reason i have up my nexus one)
Another time when i inserted the Sim with the phone on and right away unlocked the slider... It froze mid slider animation. Think i hit some race condition there. Hopefully i won't be inserting sim cards all the time...
Overall i think i will be able to live with that phone. Now only if i could use nfc unlock with my assine employer email policy...

It may have happened again. It's reporting a widget (simple calendar) as using 15min of cpu with 4min of foreground time. I had opened its setting screen 15 min ago. After i liked it from the recent task list it stopped counting new cpu time. But it's still showing as the top battery user for now.
Since that setting screen has ads, i will just write this off as a sleazy ad library for now.

I have updated to the lollipop update like many and my phone is warm and sometimes hot.
I am not using my phone and it still gets warm and drains the battery life.
In 4 hours I will go from 100% to dead with no use.
My screen was off but shows it as being on. **See attached photo
I searched the MOTO threads and cant find anything as of now to resolve this issue.
Anyone else having this issue and find a fix?
Tried wifi channels to see if this issue fixes this, cleared cache and nothing........
Hope help comes quick!
If I can get some help I will buy them a beer or coffee!
Okay here's an updated seems to fix the issue......
I disabled the WiFi location settings, download clean master -- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cleanmaster.mguard -- and seemed to have fixed the issue so far.
Keep you posted as the day goes on.
After you updated, did you do a factory reset? If not, and before you do, what apps do you have installed? You might have an unruly app that's just constantly running. I hear Google Fit hasn't been too friendly...
Since Google services is pretty high on the usage list, it could have something to do with syncing errors or maybe problems with updating Google Play services/Play Store. Make sure you have the latest versions.
Google Play services (6.5.85) - http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google.../google-play-services-6-5-85-1589008-438-apk/
Google Play Store (5.0.38) - http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-play-store/
Also, unsync any services in your Google account that you aren't using.
Don't forget to turn off extraneous radios like WiFi (if you don't use it for location), GPS, NFC, and Bluetooth when you're not using them.
If all else fails, factory reset and pay attention to the apps that are being downloaded. Uninstall garbage and disable what you can't uninstall, but don't use. Hopefully this helps.
EDIT: Seems you fixed it. Nice! Well, use this as a reference for your next step if things don't stay behaved.

Clear cache and reboot. If you still have the problem, do a factory reset. Also, has the phone stabilized? Have you been through a couple of charge/use cycles? There could be a load of background processes setting up for the first day or so.
Seems the Qualcomm battery guru is a culprit as is the xfinity WiFi app.
Motorola said do a factory reset but I don't want to if something else can be done.
Think it's fixed by the WiFi location and the clean matter app showing the apps that kill the battery.
Here is a great article about asps that keep restarting in lollipop. It's a bug in ART. Google is working on a fix.

I'll post my battery drain/overheating story just to join the fray...i updated to Lollipop 4 days ago and I have had to charge my S5 at least a dozen times. I have tried power save mode, disabling every nonessential app and anything else I can find in the forums.
I used to get 15-16hrs of battery life (6am-10pm) with charge to spare, but immediately after the update my CPU sits maxed (monitored by Micro CPU Monitor) and constantly overheats (GSAM Battery Monitor). The phone went from 95°F to 105°F in 10min with standard use. I only had it overheat one other time in the last year (on my dash in the summer). I hope Google/Verizon will replace my battery because this abuse of it is going to shorten the life considerably!
See screen shots from the last charge at 4pm to now (10:15pm) all while UNUSED and in powersave mode plus battery at 107°F (a new record for me)!
I really don't want to reset the phone and lose my app settings, plus it seems to be hit/miss with other's issues. Any suggestions would be great.
Seems hit or miss.
Not sure what to tell you but try making sure you're Wi-Fi isn't always searching for locations when not connected. Seems this is a huge problem for many as Verizon threads and Android forums are filling up. I don't have an S5 but will keep looking for the fix.

My Nexus 6 is compeletely stock and untouched software. I have attached screenshots from Nexus 6 (5.0.1) and Note 3 (5.0) to show the point I'm talking about.
When I'm sleeping as you can see on the Note 3 it has very few awakes. But Nexus 6 on the other hand is almost always awake. It drains about 20-25% battery overnight.
I have performed factory reset 3 times and now it has almost no additional apps installed but still the same. (don't judge by the facebook on the screenshot it's just installed and the problem is the same with or without it) I'm not rooted so i can't use the wakelock detector. I've installed GSam and it shows Android OS and Android system as biggest drainers for the current situation (16%, 6%) which i suspect nothing extraordinary.
I have play services 6.7.76 on both devices if it has anything to do with it. I tried something like turning the ambient display off and some other settings to see if theyre waking it but no luck yet. Do you think it is a software thing and Google will eventually fix it and I should wait or what should i do?
I really want to keep this phone but the battery is a big concern for me right now. every morning seeing the battery down without touching the phone is a big problem. Any help and information on the subject is appreciated.
Edit: I have added a screenshot from safe mode. I restarted in safe mode to see if any 3rd party is the cause of the problem. But the problem persists. And I have noticed that when the wifi is compeletely off (Keep awake, Always scanning etc.) the problem is solved. But whenever i turn on the wifi, even when it is not connected to any network, it starts draining battery and keeping phone awake like on the graphics. Can anyone give me a hint if this can be a hardware related issue with the wifi receiver? Or it looks like a software issue and can be solved with the 5.1 update? I have 3 days to return the phone if its a hardware thing. Thanks
You should probably update to 5.1 and see if that helps.

You might have the sensor ind bug that was in 5.01 that kept the phone from sleeping properly. From my short experience with 5.1, it's gone. Hard to tell about your situation without screenshots from better battery stats and the app list.

Thank you for the info. Root is not an option on the Nexus 6 cause my sister will be using it and she's not a techie. Without root I can't properly see what keeps it awake :/ As i said, besides the screen, biggest consumers are the Android OS and Android system in Battery settings list. But they're similiar on the Note 3 too so i dont think i can get somewhere with them.
I guess i will have to wait for 5.1 and hope it is fixed as you've said. Do you know what sensor is causing the sensor ind error? Does it have anything with the Ambient display?

If it is the problem, how did you overcome the issue? Are you using browser for your exchange mail account? If so, it will be a pain not getting mails to the app :/

Hey guys,
I am using my Moto X (XT1052) for almost 2 years now. It is/was the best android phone I've had so far. It was smooth, had no hangs and just did what it was supposed to do. Since I received the Update to 5.1 I keep on having real strange issues and it really bothers me because it really renders the phone useless at times. And since I couldnt find another thread with all bugs collected in one place, I am going to start my own thread.
So which bugs did I find so far?
1.Youtube and other video services don't work all the time
(They work sometimes, but the the video stops, tries to resume and ends up in a loop trying to load the video. Often only a reboot helps.)
2. Battery consumption in general has become way worse (cell-standby)
3. Random "Optimizing apps" after a reboot
4. No Active Display with handsover (I know this isn't a feature anymore, but to me this is a bug as well)
5. Missing energy widget
6. Wifi range has reduced significantly and seems to be buggy at times (can't always tell if it's my router or the phone, but mostly it's the phone)
7. Sometimes the phone uses mobile data instead of wifi, even if connected
8. Vibration mode (important notifications only) doesnt always end properly and the phone doesn't start vibrating again after the set time or alarm
I think that's it for now. But this clearly is enough for me.
So please Moto guys do something! If you need logcats or anything else, let me know and I ll help out as good as I can. I was one of those who patiently waited for an update instead of crying for one, because I wanted a stable one rather than a fast and unstable one. So either fix it, or I ll have to return my Moto X. The phone in its' current state is useless for me. Especially as I can't even downgrade without having to risk a full brick. So please do something and push an update to either allow downgrading, or fix the existing bugs!

"No Active Display with handsover"
Now I have to tap or take my phone to see notifications... :crying:
I switched over to CM and all is going great of course at a small cost of losing Moto voice feature but I can most certainly live without it. I've got very decent battery life of 5-6hours of screen time over a span of 13hours. No over heating issues and usually cell standby sits at 2% usage which is absolutely fine for me.. Even the hand wave gesture works with active display. I'm so happy with how stable it is with CM. Living with a bug free phone for now.

I did a factory reset and still have this problem. It's happening every couple of days. It's making my experience with this phone very frustrating!
Some more issues I've found:
Soundproblem, sometimes when I switch e.g. from twitch to spotify and then try to increase or decrease the volume, I get a crackling sound every time I push the button. Sometimes it disappears after a certain time of not playing anything, but mostly again only a reboot helps.
The phone unlocks itself more often in my pockets for no obvious reason.
The unlock on the ActiveDisplay unlockscreen often only leads to the normal unlocking screen instead of the homescreen. Same thing when I try to open notifications. Mostly those apps run, but I get to see the normal lockscreen, instead of the app with the notification.

I think I found a fix for the YouTube problem.
Press the power button and keep it pressed till you feel another vibrate ie. After the power menu pops up.
That seems to solve it

Well that's not exactly what I would call a fix it appears to work sometimes though. I also noticed that simply changing the video quality from let's say 720p to 480p often resolves the issues. I mostly get the video bug, when I am trying to watch things in 720p or above. Maybe it is a codec problem? A broken lib?

For YouTube, you could get another app. I stopped the cell standby issue by turning off carrier internet when not needed. Install greenify, servicely, battery saver, and power nap. 1 I too have random optimizing of apps. 2 pocket dials have increased, 3 if I tap on the phone icon from messaging app to make call to that person, I have to exit out of the SMS app before I see the call screen. 4 sometimes when I'm multi tasking I go back to another app but the app reloads and doesn't take me to where I was. 5 Google now voice only responds 30% of the time when i say hello google. Some other problems I have noticed but can't think of right now

Good thing I waited for a version that I could go back to kit kat because it didn't update the bootloader to lollipop. This is the thread if anyone is interested. I flashed this rom for xt1053 on my Rogers xt 1058, with only speaker phone not working away from WiFi for some reason, but that's if you flash on another moto x besides xt1053. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3155843
1. Battery drain (cell standby) makes the phone unusable.
2. WiFi does not connect or only works rarely now.
- download two times on whatsapp
- dialler doesnt dial a call

Cell Standby Battery drain is the worst..
Randomly restarting and optimizing apps has been a huge problem as well.
I miss the wave to wake for active notifications...
But what I really hate about 5.1, is that when using wifi my mobile radio keeps active all the time...
This drains the battery while being on wifi...
Funny enough, when I'm on mobile data, everything is ok and mobile radio is active only when needed by the apps...
On wifi on the other hand, oh man... it's active all the time...
