Does anyone know of a working tether mod for the ATT S6 Edge?
FoxFi / PDAnet working.... kinda
FoxFi works via usb or bluetooth connection. Wifi is currently not working as Att has done something to block it. Hopefully someone will come up with a mod that fixes this but at least we've got something.
For those with unlimited grandfathered plans will FoxFi trigger their TTL and other methods to get you for tethering?

Try this only requirement you need to be on OE2

Thanks saw that, but i don't want to flash a custom rom even with flashfire, due to possibility of tripping knox. Too soon too early.
Ok. Fyi I flashed the cleanrom1.0 for edge att. Didn't trip knox. Also I tried flashing a Rom for the 925F and it didn't work. Gave me a At&t unauthorized software message and it didn't trip knox either.
thanks for that, i have read almost all the ping pong pages, hard to keep up daily but from a flashfire search there results are a mixed bag, some say it trips it and others say they don't. I assume you rooted once you got oe2, than flashfire the cleanrom or did you do it in some other order?

you dont need a custom rom. it works on stock rom too but you need to be rooted tho.
Can it be installed without using flashfire? Not sure on this but I don't believe it will trip Knox bit using flashfire. I don't suppose there is anyway to just install the apk direct?
Also does it work on the Edge model. the developer states it is not made for the Edge but some have had success while others have not

I know the verizon version is now able to enable hotspot but it their anyway for the AT&T version as of right now? can any third party app do it? I've tried PDAnet/foxfi but it gives me an error.

Maybe a third party app off the store?
Im not sure what you guys are trying to do, but for me to turn on mobile hotspot, I just go to Settings>Connections>Mobile Hotspot and Tethering>Mobile Hotspot>click the button to on... it works just fine.

I think it's still locked via that route if you're on an old data plan. Not sure, as I've been on a new plan for a while now.

Yes, for people like myself who are still grandfathered in to unlimited data. By default, wifi tethering is disabled. The above link provides a mod to enable it.

Third-party wi-fi tether apps
Any third-party tether apps (not USB -- I want a wi-fi router) confirmed to work on rooted AT&T S6 running AOCE? I see this is for AOE2 ROM, but I rooted already and really don't want to go through all the app/settings re-do by flashing back to stock and then flashing AOE2 if I can help it. I'll pay $2 or $3 for an app if someone can confirm it works on AOCE...

I've not seen/heard anything that would work on OCE, but if your rooted why not titanium backup, or back up data in flashfire then use Odin to flash OE2. After reroot and restore data?

I was asking in another thread for confirmation that I could do that, in fact. If I can flash AOE2 over the top, then the path to tethering is easy (by way of backing up what I can). Have only had the S6 for 27 hours, but I've already done a fair number of customizations -- but I can re-do them if need be.
Just to double-check, I can (or can not?), coming from AOCE baseband:
- TB / backup data
- ODIN to push AOE2 on
- PingPong to re-root
- restore data/config
- tether for the win
???
I say with 95% certainty you can. I have not tried it but it should work. I can't imagine why it wouldn't.
It's best to go with OE2 and get it over with. You'll benefit from the memory leak fix and have greater battery life. I done it and I got the Wifi tether hack working on my unlimited data plan. There was an option to restore apps when I went from stock AT&T ROM (OE2) to CleanROM 1.1 (OE2), but I'm not sure how it was backed up in the first place. I elected to just start fresh and clean. Didn't take much time from me to redo a lot of the apps (e.g., redownload, reconfigure). Worse case, you can risk flashing the hack on the OCE and see what happens, but better back up everything first before doing so.
Ok, so i googled a bit and do see that some people have had issues trying this, but most of the examples i was reading were on devices from carriers with locked bootloaders. Since the tmo version has an unloacked BL was wondering if anyone has tried this or not?
I was thinking of simply using flashify or twrp manager to install recovery from within my currently rooted (superuser) rom. Most people that have tried using locked bootloaders endup with a soft brick from what i have seen. Just not sure how much the unlocked bootloader would help us in this situation.
I know i can just use CF auto root but was trying to do it without tripping knox really. However, i have never had issues with any warranty through tmobile (rooted, tripped knox, whatever) and with the announcement of android pay, i am way less interested in samsung pay so tripped knox wouldnt be the end of the world... but still curious
EDIT: So apparently chainfire just released something called flashfire that appears it can do exactly what i am looking for. Anyone else looking for the same should check it out...

So, this will not trip knox? I'm currently stock waiting for the 5.1 update to see if it's worth it to keep stock or root my phone. I just want to root it so bad because I could hypothetically get double battery life with the tweaks I would do. I'm interested in Samsung Pay (sorta) but if Google Wallet/Android Pay will have the same functions, then IDC.

If you install recovery no matter what method it will trip. For Roms, Flashfire won't trip as long as you don't flash boot.img aka kernel. You need to remove it before flashing
Hi everybody I just got an ATT S6 G920A with android 6.0.1. After checking i see there is no way to root the phone. And i think the only way is to go ahead and push the TWRP. This will trip knox and the eFUSE will be blown
The question is: what are the consequences besides losing the warranty?
I need to use my company exchange server on that phone. Will tripped Knox prevent me to access the emails?
Thanks!

You'll lose Samsung pay.
Not sure about exchange server, but my guess is that depends on security setting on the server.
Good luck.

thanks dandrumheller
I did more investigation on how some companies (including mine) does this and after some documents from my own IT deparment i saw they were mentioning KNOX. So if KNOX is tripped, many of those in house apps to check email, store files, and conferencing probably will not work. So.... i can't trip the knox.....
I will have to wait for more developement to be done on ATT S6 6.0.1 in order to root it without tripping knox.... Probably it will NEVER happen since it has been more than a year since android 6 was released and there is no much out there :'(
I will keep my s4 that works like a charm!

Yeah. You could very well brick your phone. The bootloader checks each partition.
And if it doesn't, I'm sure your company's MDM software will detect either an attempted root or the tripped Knox and remotely wipe your phone for violating policy.

Not that I know of, but it seemed like the poster I responded to thought he could do it. I was just commenting on the consequences of tripped Knox.
Is it possible to downgrade from 6.0.1 (PJ1) to 5.1.1(Oj7 I think)? In my case I would like to go back to 5.1 to get access to the tethered root and I don't care if Knox trips on my device.

That's what I thought. I'm currently still stuck on 5.0.1 with a locked boot loader and no custom ROM/kernel.
I'll just rely on my trusty KLWP to 'rice' my phone.
Hi--
I've done some searching to see about this, but honestly I'm a little out of my league here.
I have an att gs6 that I haven't used in a while. It is currently on 5.1.1 and firmware version 3.10.61xxxx. Before I totally tried using it, I tried updating to marshmallow but was an idiot and let my computer go to sleep, so flashing the update failed and now dm-verity verification fails. Since this has happened, it wouldn't OTA update or allow anything at all. Now, I'm no longer on att and not currently using this device, but it would be great if I could revive it.
Basically, I'd love to root, install twrp, flash custom roms, etc. but I'm just not sure what I can do, and my situation is so out of date that I'm hesitant to try anything without some guidance.
I'd really appreciate any help you all can offer, and I hope that I'm posting this in the right place, etc. Thanks in advance!

Depending on which 5.1.1 build you are on, you may be able to do either ping pong or the tethered root. Ping pong only worked on the first couple official builds after the phone launched. Think the ping pong thread is in development, and tethered root thread is in general.
There is no way to unlock the bootloader for the ATT model, so no custom recovery or custom ROMs.

Awesome, thanks for your reply. I figured the custom rom thing would be the case, but it never hurts to ask.
If I do tethered root, will I be able to bypass the dm-verity check and upgrade to latest android version?

I don't know about your DM verity issue. I never did the tethered root - couldn't risk being stuck in a boot loop with my daily driver.

Well, if you have temproot, there actually may be a way to unlock the bootloader if you found an XDA developer with the unlocked Samsung willing to cooperate, you could have them extract Samsungs bootloader unlcoking tool, called CROM service, and the necessary libs and framework. It's risky, but may work.
I updated my phone yesterday not thinking and knowing they may patch that hotspot hack. I need the hotspot back for work purposes and us you all know that you can't install anything outside network on Enterprise systems. So, the PDANET+ won't help me since it will have to be actually installed on the laptop/device you are trying to get internet access to as well. I didn't want to root my Note 8 but, what options do I have to roll back to nougat 7.1.1 or other alternatives just for my hotspot.

Yes go here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/how-to/guide-sm-n950u-u1-t3685884
First follow 'Flashing Unlocked Firmware: Steps in Post 4' and use (VZW) Verizon - N950U1UEU1AQH9/AQI5/BQK1/BQL2/BRA5
Then following 'Flashing Carrier Firmware: Steps in Post 3' and flash only VZW CSC.
Can anyone confirm if this works? And will we lose vvm and wifi calling by doing this?
Correction to thread title: should read stupid Verizon vs Oreo!
Right... Just frustrating to go through this for hotspot access now.
