I updated my phone yesterday not thinking and knowing they may patch that hotspot hack. I need the hotspot back for work purposes and us you all know that you can't install anything outside network on Enterprise systems. So, the PDANET+ won't help me since it will have to be actually installed on the laptop/device you are trying to get internet access to as well. I didn't want to root my Note 8 but, what options do I have to roll back to nougat 7.1.1 or other alternatives just for my hotspot.

Yes go here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/how-to/guide-sm-n950u-u1-t3685884
First follow 'Flashing Unlocked Firmware: Steps in Post 4' and use (VZW) Verizon - N950U1UEU1AQH9/AQI5/BQK1/BQL2/BRA5
Then following 'Flashing Carrier Firmware: Steps in Post 3' and flash only VZW CSC.
Can anyone confirm if this works? And will we lose vvm and wifi calling by doing this?
Correction to thread title: should read stupid Verizon vs Oreo!
Right... Just frustrating to go through this for hotspot access now.

Hi guys,
The way I see it the Tethering and Hotspot option is only working with Verizon SIM card.
Now when I'm trying to use different (foreign country) SIM it says: "A Verizon Wireless LTE SIM card is not detected. Mobile Hotspot/Mobile Broadband connect/Bloototh tethering service needs a Verizon SIM card in order to work".
What are my options to make it work? Is there any workaround? Maybe some app?
Appreciate any suggestions! Thanks!

I would love to know the exact same thing as I just converted my Verizon LG G2 to T-Mobile last night and the only issue I have is tethering. From reading I found a method to running the T-Mobile ROM on the Verizon LG with a patch added after loading the ROM and prior to first reboot but I cannot find any information about Wi-Fi tethering and if this would solve the problem. Anyone the help or insight?
Thanks,

Make sure your phone is rooted and use root explorer or es file explorer to replace the modded apk file with the original.
After much trial and error, trying all the different modded version on the threads, I cannot get any of them to work. As I am on stock 24a, rooted and debloated, I am going to back my APNs, flash back to 100% stock with stock recovery. Once I get this done I will re-root, install custom recovery and then backup the stock, after which I will load one of the custom ROMS and see if that resolves it. If not I can get a hotpot from T-Mobile for next to nothing out the door if I find I need it.

Hey. I have found an workaround regarding the hotspot here somewhere.
To bypass/activate the hotspot, you need following :
Root your phone using LG ONE CLICK ROOT
HotSpot file ( for lollipop version)
Root Browser
Steps to follow :
Go to root browser.
Head to /system/app/HotspotProvision and rename or backup HotspotProvision.apk, ex : " HotspotProvision.apk.bkup" . Then go to /system/app/HotspotProvision/arm and rename or backup " HotspotProvision.odex" file. After that, copy the provided Hotspot provision file to the same location, change its permission to rw-r-r and restart phone.
It should work now.
Please let me know if you need further assistance.

I have done all that but I am getting the blocked page by T-Mobile after connecting to mobile hotspot. Tethering works with my other phone but not with the Verizon G2.
I have a t-mobile purchases N6 that is running rooted stock. This morning I got the message that the 5.1.1 update was available and I let it download but since I am running TWRP, nothing happened at reboot which is what you would expect. Can I just install the rom that downloads? I know there is a rooted stock rom available but I sometimes use wifi calling. I don't care if I lose root but I want to make sure I don't brick my phone.
I think more than anything I don't want to keep looking at the notification that tells me there is a new version and it won't go away.
You won't be able to flash the OTA file since you made modifications to /system. It will just fail The OTA is just a patch and not a full image.
If you want to update to 5.1.1, you'll need to flash the image or a custom ROM.
Ok thanks! Other than losing WiFi calling, is there any issue with flashing the international ROM to a T-Mobile phone? I know T-Mobile has a weird band that isn't always connected with all radios, at least on other phones.
if you want wifi calling and 5.1.1, install the t-mobile specific rom here:

You can install international versions and have it work on T-Mobile. If you want all the features, flash this latest version.
Hi Guys,
I have a fully stock AT&T S6 Edge (G925A) and it is still running on Lollipop. The reason is that when I check for updates through the About section, it says my phone has the latest firmware, so it doesn't find the OTA for MM.
I even installed Samsung SmartSwitch on Windows and checked for updates using that but still it couldn't find any updates.
So the question is whether or not there is a safe method for flashing stock MM firmware manually (probably through ODIN) without bricking the phone?
I have another S6 Edge International model (G925F) and I update it manually every month through ODIN, but it is rooted and bootloader is unlocked. I am not sure how a similar method would work for a locked bootloader.
I appreciate your help
Any ideas?

Upgraded to oreo on note 8 n950n
Volte and video phone deleted from dialer as they have on any past update. No biggie. Get into ims settings. Either through hidden kt menu or shortcut lite
But now ims settings requires a one time passcode
And supplies a key code that correlates to a password
No idea where to get key from.. please help!
T Mobile sucks without volte
In my country, the carrier requires you to take the device to activate VOLTE, maybe you need to go in person with your device to your carrier service center
When I was on Oreo I couldn't even access IMS settings on my F. Phone INFO/Shortcut Master wouldn't find the IMS settings menu for me. But I'm rooted & T-Mobile CSC still activated VoLTE & Wifi calling fine for me. But whatever, I'm back to Nougat & won't be running Oreo until things get worked out.

How did you go back to Nougat from Oreo? Wouldn't that trip the Knox flag?
I know you are rooted, however just asking if I downgrade will I hit the Knog flag. I am extremely concerned as I am registered to my Org email and other apps which requires no trip of Knox flag along with no root.
Please suggest.
Thanks.

You can flash back to Nougat & flashing official FW in Odin should not trip Knox but I'm not taking any responsibility if somethig happens.
I have Exynos with TWRP installed so my Knox is already tripped. I switch back & forth from Oreo & Nougat with nandroids in TWRP.

Thanks. Unfortunately I read from somewhere that even downgrading ROM trips knox. Not sure though. In case someone who has already tried please confirm.
Additionally if I flash G950U1 official ROM on a G950U phone would that still trip knox?

I've never heard that either. Generally if you are are flashing official FWs in Odin Knox will not be tripped. And as you probably know you can't flash anything in Odin that is not for your specific device so Knox shouldn't be tripped.
I didn't realize you have a S8 since you are posting in the Note 8 forum but it should be the same. You can flash the unlocked FW on a carrier device but you have to use the PrinceComsy modified Odin to do so. Still it should not trip Knox. What's mainly important is you have to flash FWs with the same version bootloader you are on now. You can not downgrade BL, even if you tried Odin will not let you.

Thanks a lot. Since Note 8 and S8 has almost similar in everything apart from few hardware enhancements in Note 8, from firmware prospect both should be considered as same..
But I read in one of the thread in XDA forum that after Oreo upgrade the bootloader has been changed and you can't downgrade.
As you confirmed if the Odin doesn't even allow FWs which would not be officially compatible then that is an awesome idea. My fear is and always be with KNOX trip since a lot is dependent on that including my work profile email and stuff.
If you/someone knows a way to turn on IMS service switch in Oreo then I won't require downgrade. Essentially I need the VoLTE to turn ON.
Tuff luck it is.

Yes Oreo has a new bootloader but you can still go back to Nougat, but latest Nougat. When they say you can't downgrade BL, you can't downgrade versions.
I don't know what variant you have but for example, I have F. Latest Nougat is 3BRB5 or 3BRA8. Oreo is 3CRC1. The 5 digit from the end is the BL version. If the number is the same, you can flash. If the number you have now is higher than a FW you wish to flash tbat has a lower number, you can't, that's what is meant by can't downgrade BL.
Oreo, IMS setting, yes I do know how to launch it. I'm assuming you are Using Phone INFO or Shortcut Master & can't launch. But with Shortcut Master you still can. Instead of launching 467 as you normally would, click on Explore instead to open App Explorer. From there click the second option, IMS Settings will launch.
If you have a N & have the passcode issue as mentioned in this thread, that I don't know anything about. Although I believe I remember a post somewhere that someone posted the codes.

Thanks for this detailed info.
Apologies for being so naive. Mine is 2CRC5 Oreo. Unfortunately I don't know which variant you referred when you say F or N.
But going by your instructions I tried and got an error while invoking the 2nd option i. e. imsserviceswitchactivity. I assume this is related to rooting as it says " su not found. "
If yes, then please suggest me something without rooting to enable the ims switch.

Ah I forgot you have S8, that's why I'm not familiar with 2CRC5. F & N are international models. You have a U which is US.
Says su not found which means you need root access to open it. I don't know of any other way. Be sure to verify with the S8 guys before trying to go back to Nougat. Guys on Note 8 have done it but I wouldn't want you to brick your phone in case something is different with the S8.
Since you have a U, that's got me thinking. Are you using your carrier's firmware? If yes VoLTE should already be enabled if they support VoLTE.

Yeah mine is US model G950U S8 Sprint branded, officially network unlocked by Sprint.
The CSC in my case is SPR/XAA/SPR. I haven't changed the carrier firmware yet in fear of Knox trip. SPRINT does have VoLTE but through their CallingPlus app in beta, not native VoLTE calls.
Moreover after network unlock I moved to India and through IMS settings I did enable VoLTE and enjoyed native calls with Indian operators. After upgrade to Oreo on March 16th, the IMS switch was auto disabled and the ims application didn't get invoked. So now stuck in a no man's land.
Is there any other method (adb or something else) to enable VoLTE?

Oh man, totally didn't expect that one. Unfortuantely in your case the only way I know is to root which is out of the question. I could be wrong but I don't think there is anything that can be done through adb, generally it's enabled by CSC. Hopefully the dev for Phone INFO/Shortcut Master will figure out how to get the secret codes working with Oreo.

Yeah, the knox part is the questionable part as obviously it can't be reversed if tripped. I don't want to say something & mistakenly have it trip. But as we talked about flashing in Odin back to Nougat should not trip knox however you stated you read otherwise?

Thanks. I tried the app earlier too. The VoLTE option is not there. I don't want to downgrade unless I find a way to enable it.
I have searched over internet a lot and found mixed responses about KNOX tripping during downgrade or any unofficial try related to firmware.
I will wait for next few days for any help regarding the VoLTE enabler app or procedure. If not, I have the Nougat latest firmware ready with me(as you suggested earlier - same bootloader version). Eventually I have to go back. VoLTE is a must for me use this device in India with 4G connections.
Hope you may show some new light towards this fix.

Hi, I have cracked the password for the otp key, you can get the java program from below
https://1drv.ms/u/s!AnEZ2ptLoUQKgfV6fNSZIyQlf-cC5Q
Your pc must have Java installed.
1. run the java program by:
java OTP_Cracker yyit4(replace this key with your otp key)
the program output should be:
key:yyit4 pwd:1406604358
key:yyit4 pwd:1405418437
key:yyit4 pwd:1404232516
key:yyit4 pwd:1403046595
key:yyit4 pwd:1401860674
key:yyit4 pwd:1400674753
One of the pwd should be ok for the key. Entering the pwd in your phone then you can get in the volte settings.
Hi everyone, longtime lurker on XDA, just signed up today I recently purchased an unlocked S10+ which I would like to use with ATT. Been an ATT subscriber for almost 8 years now, and this is my first time buying an unlocked and not ATT branded phone. That being said, I have gone through the forums and have a rough idea how to flash ATT firmware on my new phone. I guess my questions are as follows:
1. I know that ATT firmware is not available without paying at most sites, but what about the user data file? I see that question being asked, do the sites hosting ATT firmwares also have user data files? If not, how to get them?
2. I'm assuming flashing firmware is still possible on the phones without needing root.
3. Should I flash the ATT firmware as soon as I receive the phone, without going through the setup process? Or can I flash after testing the phone for a couple of days.
4. Any major pitfalls by flashing ATT firmware?
I'm planning to do all this because I would like to use visual voicemail and HD voice if possible. I know that since my phone isn't whitelisted at ATT, those services may not work anyways, but I figured the first step is for me to flash the firmware, and then try to beg/cajole ATT to somehow help me with getting the phone working. Thanks in advance for your inputs and please excuse the noob questions :fingers-crossed:

I have an AT&T branded S10+ here.
1. The sites hosting the AT&T files that you have to pay for should have the AT&T user data file.
2. Yes, you just need a special patched version of ODIN that's here in the forums. Other versions won't work.
3. You can flash whenever as flashing will automatically do a data factor reset.
4. No pit falls, just they changed a few things from ASI6 to BSIW. BSIW is the current firmware with the November 2019 security patch.
You're not going to find AT&T firmware past SG8 or SGB I think it is here in the forums. You could flash that, then take the OTA to the current firmware. If you want the ASI6 firmware or later, you gotta pay for it.

Thanks a ton for your response StoneyJSG! I need to search for a site hosting the ATT firmware I guess.

No problem, let me know if you find a site that doesn't charge. I am so close to downloading the ASI6 firmware off of a pay site.

I just went with the BSIV uploaded here to the forums, it's one version behind the latest, BSIW. Everything is working fine mostly. Contrary to public opinion, I do indeed seem to have VoLTE, WiFi calling and visual voicemail. Checked them all and they work. No idea about HD voice, that setting is no longer showing up in the settings menu, not a big deal anyway. The only problem I see so far is that ATT video calling doesn't work (never used it anyway), and more importantly, I'm unable to OTA update to the latest firmware BSIW. Have to dig into it further. But a huge thanks to the esteemed users of XDA, couldn't have done it without you! :good::good:
Did you eventually get OTA's?
I'm thinking my next phone will be an unlocked Note 20, but flash ATT firmware (I'm a prepaid subscriber and it's easier to buy from Samsung)...

Am happy to report that I did indeed get OTAs! I had to flash manually for a few months, but the last manual flash did the trick, and have been getting OTAs since then. Not sure if I would do it again, but at least it worked for me.
I actually paid to download the ASI6 firmware and haven't even used it. Kind of a mistake as I see BSIW or BSIV would have worked fine. Doh! Oh well.

Too bad, better luck next time I guess
Lol yeah. I can still flash ASI6 though as my S10 is still on an old firmware. I use my S10+ as my daily driver. It just sucks I paid like $12 for it and didn't need to.
