Hi Guys,
I have a fully stock AT&T S6 Edge (G925A) and it is still running on Lollipop. The reason is that when I check for updates through the About section, it says my phone has the latest firmware, so it doesn't find the OTA for MM.
I even installed Samsung SmartSwitch on Windows and checked for updates using that but still it couldn't find any updates.
So the question is whether or not there is a safe method for flashing stock MM firmware manually (probably through ODIN) without bricking the phone?
I have another S6 Edge International model (G925F) and I update it manually every month through ODIN, but it is rooted and bootloader is unlocked. I am not sure how a similar method would work for a locked bootloader.
I appreciate your help
Any ideas?
I think happens is because we are outside the US .... I update it without problems with a guide here and works perfectly -> "flashing 6.0.1 encryption enabled"

Can you please provide a link?
I am actually using a VPN that uses US ip addresses. So I don't think that would be a problem.

I'm currently updated using "LMY47Z" release, which I believe is the latest one, however I received another update via OTA a couple days ago, it says:
"This software update will upgrade your Nexus 6 to improve stability, increase security, and fix bugs. Downloading updates over a mobile network or while roaming may cause additional charges.
Size: 24.6MB"
Thing is, I cannot update it because I'm rooted, so I'm trying to find the file to do it manually, but at least in the google site the latest version that I identify is the one that I'm using; do you have any clue about what this update refers to? Is it "LMY48I" maybe? Thanks!
all nexus factory images are here https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images?csw=1#yakju
you cant update with an ota, even manually, unless you are completely stock without any changed files. you need a factory image to flash via fastboot.

Thanks a lot! I know that, I've been doing all the updates via flashboot, but I don't know which version is the latest one for Nexus 6? is it LMY48I?

Hi I have a problem from going to 5.1.1 from 5.0.2. I have tried clearing cache,
I have 9gb free,
made sure everything is up to date and enabled,
and have factory reset my phone.
Still doesn't work.
Says something about "dm- verity verification fail" if I go into that developer screen when you hold power, home and volume up right after it tries to update again while loading.
Never has been rooted and have had it for a few months now. Also I was wondering if I could root this phone and just manually update it with custom firmware and forget about Ota updates anymore and be able to run the latest and greatest firmware. I have read in a few places that the new bootloader is un-cracked though and can't be rooted? Thanks.

Would love a root, but if the rumors are true, that a new S7 Active version will be announced in Jan and released in Mar, and the new S7 Active (still likely only an AT&T exclusive...) has noticeable improvements, perhaps a root solution for this phone may fall to the way-side.
I'm on the fence about getting an S6, kinda waiting to see if I can get any confirmed specs for a new S7.
Argh... tough...

there is no known root method for OF3 and later firmware. There is also no known way to roll Back To earlier firmware if you arrived at OF3 via OTA updates.

"OF3 via OTA updates" stupidly I updated a bestbuy I suppose this doesn't make a difference? Also is there a link where we can keep updated on 0f3 root?

No, if you reached OF3 via official updates without prior root, you're committed. No known way of rolling back and no current root.
Just monitor the general and development subforums here - if a new root exploit is found it will be big news around here. However, I personally don't expect to ever see root for 5.x. MAYBE if/when we get MM something might materialize, but there is very little đeveloper interest left in this variant because it's so locked down. Plus we're now half way through its life cycle. I'm certainly not counting on it.

I've been lurking around this week. I saw devs in GSMHosting talking (here and here) about [KERNEL] UniKernel v8-0002 COH9 [G920 /925] being compatible to G920A.
Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks

Those methods appears to require either a downgrade to 5.0.2. Which, as indicated, triggered an sboot error, or flashing unikernel, which is not possible on the 920a due to locked bootloader. Unless something has changed recently (which would have likely been well publicised here) neither of these proposed methods appear to work.
While it's possible unikernel is compatible with 920a, we have no way to flash it.

Hello.
Does anyone know the actual contents of this OTA update that was released today 11/29/17? After the horrible time Samsung and Android gave me after the Note7 fiasco I have become very untrusting of them. The first Note8 OTA update left me with little options relating to rollback and such things.
I would like to know what is exactly in this update. The page I found is vague. The information they leave for the average consumer is always vague.
If no one knows, can anyone lead me to where I can find more information about this particular update?
So that leaves me at this point. If I install this update will it limit my options as for Odin, custom firmware, etc?
So all that Samsung tells me can be found here: http://doc.samsungmobile.com/SM-N950U1/ATT/doc.html
Thank you in advance for any and all assistance. It is always appreciated.
Have not seen any issue's so far on this OTA.
Head over to sammobile dot com, to read more.
In short:
"In addition to the November security patch, the update brings improved performance in the Calendar, Gallery, Voice Recorder, and Reminder apps, a new secure Wi-Fi function, and a fix for an unexplained Samsung DeX error. The firmware version is N950FXXU1BQK6, and at upwards of 840 MB, is among the biggest OTA updates that don’t bring a major Android version upgrade that we have seen"
Safe? It will, at least temporarily, block any attempt at root. If you're running a Substratum theme, it's best to uninstall it before running the update, based on the experience of those who got the October update. Do not reinstall apps that were backed up while running the theme.
Thank you. I am going to Sammobile right now to read more about it.

Is it designed to block rooting?
Can you still do the WiFi hotspot trick. Where you try to sing into a hotspot with wrong password then turn on hotspot and quickly turn off WiFi. Can't live without that.

Yes it blocks current SamFail method. The U2 bootloader also cannot be downgraded once installed.

Thank you for explaining. I was wondering if I would be able to rollback to original stock firmware after updating.
How can I get rid of this update and block all future OTAs?
This update is just sitting somewhere in my phone waiting for me to hit that button. What do I do, boot into factory tech mode and clear the cache or something?

Not 100% sure to be honest, but you can maybe try disabling security updates in settings/security menu or maybe disabling/freezing "software update" through an app like TitaniumBackup.
Check the SamFail thread for more info:

That's what I'm trying to hold out for. I have not as of yet experienced any glitches or problems of any kind so I don't see why an update is justified. Just give us Oreo!!! It should've been pre-built into the Note8.

Thank you very much. I'm looking into it for more information now....
Took the update. So far so good. OpenVPN and MS RDP working fine as usual. I was a bit worried as I've read reports of updates screwing up WiFi. I've recently tried these apps on three new Samsung devices and had disconnect issues with all. Oddly, one was a dex using Ethernet - maybe this will fix that, I'll test it. Btw the other devices were a Chromebook pro and a galaxy tab a.
I updated my phone yesterday not thinking and knowing they may patch that hotspot hack. I need the hotspot back for work purposes and us you all know that you can't install anything outside network on Enterprise systems. So, the PDANET+ won't help me since it will have to be actually installed on the laptop/device you are trying to get internet access to as well. I didn't want to root my Note 8 but, what options do I have to roll back to nougat 7.1.1 or other alternatives just for my hotspot.

Yes go here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-8/how-to/guide-sm-n950u-u1-t3685884
First follow 'Flashing Unlocked Firmware: Steps in Post 4' and use (VZW) Verizon - N950U1UEU1AQH9/AQI5/BQK1/BQL2/BRA5
Then following 'Flashing Carrier Firmware: Steps in Post 3' and flash only VZW CSC.
