I don't see the G Watch R on that list, so I expect that means no WiFi for us. Buggers.
What ticks me off the most isn't that we aren't getting Wifi, but rather LG's deception. The GWAR doesn't support it? Then tell me that LG...give me the details on why it is not possible. Granted, this probably means it DOES support Wifi, and LG just doesn't want to include it. I'm not going to write LG off, but this will definitely impact my decisions of purchasing future LG products.
Well this was expected, I'm not really angry as wifi didn't concern me, but still, I'm a bit annoyed.
Just as expected. I didn't buy the watch for wifi and for what wifi does, I'm not missing anything. Yeah, I know. But LG said it would have wifi.
Official wifi confirmed by LG!!! Only, it's gonna be arriving in the third quarter of this year. http://androidworld.nl/wearables/lg-g-watch-r-krijgt-wifi-nieuwe-losse-update/
There have been some confusion over the capabilities of LG wearable devices with the arrival of the latest version of Android Wear, currently rolling out this week. Regardless of what has been reported, the latest version of Android Wear does not automatically provide Wi-Fi support unless the device was designed with this functionality in place at the time of sale.
LG Watch Urbane is the only wearable device currently shipping with the latest version of Android Wear OS and is Wi-Fi capable out of the box. The original LG G Watch was not designed with Wi-Fi in mind and will not have this capability even after the Android Wear update. LG G Watch R will require a maintenance release patch after the Android Wear update to access Wi-Fi networks. LG engineers are preparing the patch now for availability in the third quarter.
We thank LG fans for their patience and loyalty. LG is confident in guaranteeing that their wearable experience will be second to none.

I claim bs on this like I said before it's just to boost the urbane sales once it has been out a couple quarters they will update ours. Like others have said they showed Wi-Fi at a pre-release conference. So WiFi was in mind just skipped.
I don't buy that excuse for a second. If that was the case other watches (ie: Moto360) wouldn't get WiFi with 5.1.1. This smells like a delaying tactic to give Urbane some advantage over GWR for a couple of months.
But, hey, all in all I won't complain, we'll get WiFi after all
apparently GWR WILL get Wifi...... in Q3

Good find. I'm happy to wait for that if that's the accurate view. Poor communication on it though. They could have avoided all the ill feeling the uncertainty caused them.
I won't get my hopes up. But q2 would be a much better release date. Lol. Them again. I'm sure out smart watch will be ancient in less then a year. Waiting for a watch with a speaker.

Built in Gps & 4Gb....why must they do this to early adopters (and so soon). I can't complain, mine was free with my Note 3, but I still feel a bit...meh.
"The Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 will reportedly launch as an all-Android device which means you won't have to own either the Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 3 or Galaxy S3.
According to Pocket-Lint, Samsung's next-generation Smart Watch will come sporting in-built GPS along with 4GB of onboard memory, it'll also come with running and music apps straight out of the box, something which the original Galaxy Gear was criticised for not having.
It's not clear whether Samsung will keep the same design as the original Galaxy Gear or whether the company will decide to make some changes there as well in light of the fact that it would work with any Android smartphone.
Whilst it may seem as though this is a very short turnaround for a company to be releasing an update it's actually something Samsung has plenty of practise at with the Galaxy range being constantly updated throughout the year."

we don't need that. galaxy gear is perfectly capable of running internet browser and navigation apps, it just need custom rom for that.
they need to update the software and get rid of touchwiz, it will never be usefull.
Galaxy range being constantly updated throughout the year.
say what? they barely make updates, and when they do they do not work properly leaving the user with broken software for MONTHS.
CES 2014 does not mean they will start selling it it the middle of January either.
I like two things,
A display that does not need to time out in 5 seconds
Double the battery life (even though the gear has great battery life now)
They better make the first gear, compatible with all phones so at least we can get some resale value.

Nah, Samsung is going to build the first Nexus watch that will be introduced at CES 2014 Or... whatever
Wow, only ordered one last night. Now question is, do I cancel and wait six months? Now I have typed it out in front of me I say hell no...
Why?
With the work that FOmey and others are doing, why go for 2.0. I have a browser, Nova Launcher, etc. Does far more than my Pebble and getting much more every day. This is what I bought mine for. Other than a few minor thing, it is doing more than I thought it could less than 6 weeks after release. I'm sure we will get TWRP or CWM soon, so we'll have all we need. The hardware is already great, so I'm enjoying it. I'll be buying 2.0 down the road, being a hardware junkie, but this has been so much fun already.

Yea I think they were referring to hardware updates rather than software ones. I agree though, bar lack of rich notifications over most apps, I love mine too
We all know were going to buy it as soon as it hits the shelves.. or atleast I am
I look forward to it ! Would be nice if they offered trade in's if its such a short period of time after the initial release date.

Who am I kidding if it came out next week, I likely would buy it
i'm tired of being an early adopter and then left for loong time with barely to no support at all.
they will have to make more improvements if they want my money again.
Early adopter with no support? Really? With the frequent updates samsung provides...i think they are doing a stand up job.
The gear is in constant development and improvment. That's why we all buy samsung. What other company provides as many updates across their Android portfolio as they do?

+1 - Also if the phone is not getting the updates thats due to the cel company's not pushing them out, Because Samsung is.
Also if it was to come out soon I would keep my current Gear. and get the new one. But what if it does not have all that I want and have to wait for cool roms again to make it mine. (OK, OK, I could just do it the old fashioned way) But this is why I love being Married, Her wife have my Gear, Dang now I need one, Time to get the Gear 2. LOL Did that with the Note 2 to the Note 3, gave her my note 2 and got me then note 3. I love my understanding wife.)
From what I read, the first great was to test the market. I was about to buy one but now I will wait a few months. It's hard to keep up with innovation and technology and Samsung is at the forefront. Very similar to what the did What the s3 to the s4.. I believe it was 9 months between them.

Hey guys, since 4.1.2 is pretty naff for most LG devices, I've set up, and am trying to launch a petition to get some action on some officialness for some of the flagship devices..

LG do wath they want. I'm pretty sure that they will update (or not) because they know that have weight for their marketing.
Yeah i think that lg shares updates in subordination of her marketing projects and ther's no way to change this, unluckily
They already stated that they'll be rolling out KitKat not only for the top-of-the-line devices but also the whole L series (2nd gen), including the cheaper L3-II and L4-II (maybe even L1-II), so i think in doing that, LG is not treating it's costumers that bad.
If you want KitKat for the L series (1st gen), you'll have to wait for CM based releases or compile one yourself, we can't ask any brand to eternally update their old line of devices, when the market nowadays calls for a constant stream of new ones.
If any brand gets stuck on updating older generation devices instead of newer ones, they go bankrupt. Updates are free, so brands get $0.00 for it. Selling devices is what keeps them alive.
It's maintaining the balance between these two factors that makes a good user-friendly brand, and LG for now is doing rather well i think. Better than Samsung at least, since they will only update to 4.4 their top of the tops...

I agree with you on that. LG's doing rather well as a user-friendly brand. I've given up my iPhone in April and only came back to having a smartphone last month by buying an LG and I'm contented with it so far.
The biggest issue with technology is that there is always new and better coming out. It has been about 4 months after release. Am I late on this for $200 new and should wait for generation 3, urbane?

Good question. I am about to buy a like new one for $150 myself so I would love to hear some opinions.
Because of the slow response and my impatience, I decided to do a little googling. It looks like urbane and R are the same watch with a different shell.
I have no desire to get an additional data plan so Urbane LTE is out. The fact the regular Urbane is just a fancy case on a R., makes it reasonable for me to get the R.
Anyone got another view that differs what I said?
G watch r is a great watch still which is why I guess they used the same internals for the urbane. I still love my watch

I bought my R a couple weeks ago for 225 off eBay and do not regret it one bit. It's an awesome device that looks fantastic and performs just as good as it looks.
I bought my R on Feb 6th for full price LOL. I still love it, never leave the house without it. I never wore a watch before, even though I've bought a few over the years they never seem to stay with me long. The R is different, it does enough to make a few things easier for me that really makes it worth it to wear daily.
Just my two cents

It's never too late for this device. It's late if you think moto 360. But the specs of this device can carry it for following two years..
I own this watch for more than 2 months now and m in love with it.
Got mine like new for $150 and loving it so far. I do miss the old zgpax s5 I had which was a full blown phone into a watch format but that one had no real integration with my phone and well no where near battery life, screen quality or simple good looks.
I must find a deal for a new one. I expect price drop once the urbane release.
I must be looking in the wrong places. You guys managed to find an LG Watch R for $150-200? Brand new?
The closest I found was an international edition with no warranty at $270
^^^^^ Yeah. I just got it as a gift from my wife and I believe she paid 300$ at best buy. I would love to know if I can get it cheaper.
Since you can do pre-order for the Urbane for $460, they may keep the watch R in the line up at the current price... wouldn't be surprised by this. I have the LG Watch R and like it alot; I'm just so used to a heavier watch and actually prefer a heavier weight that it's taking me a while to get used to it. I got the aftermarket band that everyone links to (black stainless steel) but even that is really light. All in all it's a great watch the only real complaint I have is trying to read it in direct sunlight... it's impossible and you have to cup over the watch to read it. Other than that it's great.

I was thinking on getting the LTE when it came out but looks like it will have the Urbane looks which I dont like at all so I am holding to my Watch R for a while. :good:
I doubt anything better with a sweet price point will come out soon (the Urbane is already priced too high, and I think the Huawei will be dear too). I paid £200 (GBP) for mine. Not sure it's worth that much, although at least I'm not as foolish as the iFollowers and their ridiculous pricing.
I was able to get a moto 360 for $41 dollars with the sillie bestbuy deal. i may try to trade it in for a watch r.
but from reading recent articles, the updates has made it more comparable to the watch r.
slightly torn....
I've been holding out for the Urbane but someone made an interesting point. The G Watch R can be dressed down or dressed up. I can wear it with a suit and tie or with jeans and sneakers. The Urbane seems more of a suit watch.
Same internals. Same specs. I'm gonna pick up the R from Google. I haven't seen it priced lower and I'm not into used products. My Galaxy Gear is 2 years old and on it's last tooth.
Okay, so I've been playing with this thing for the last hour. Long enough to know it's being shipped back to Google. Highly disappointed with the watch and Android Wear. I can't believe how much of a crap experience this is.

Good for you. We will miss your great insights...BYE
Hey, don't take it personally. Android Wear is crap and this G Watch R is a POS. I thought my Gear had terrible battery life. I left home at 8 o'clock with 100% battery life. It's presently 9:43 and the battery is currently at 56%! This is with screen always off. Says I have at most 2 hours before it's dead! What kinda crap is this?
Why do people get defensive when someone states their opinion? I've been on XDA longer than most and this new crop of members have very thin skins. It's not like you own the company or coded this crap software - well unless you did in which case you need a new day job.
And to answer the OP's question - Yes, yes, run like hell in the opposite direction from anything with Android Wear on it. It's not ready for prime time.
Oh the proverbial rock and hard place.
I got rid of my LG G watch and just sold my Gear S (phenomenal screen BTW). I was going to wait for the Zenwatch 2 to come out in a month but I am missing my watch.
My cousin is selling his Urbane for pretty much what the Zenwatch 2 will cost.. He is OCD like me so its in meticulous condition.
Is it worth it to buy the Urbane now that the next gen are coming out? I consider the Urbane and Watch R as "V1.5" but they do share similar hardware with the "V2.0" watches.
I don't see any exciting new features in the next android wear watches.
The round ones- new 360 and huawei are similar to the urbane, a matter of taste which one to get.
The squares- the sony has no heart rate monitor and the zenwatch2 is square with 2 sizes. I'm not a fan of square watches.
Don't see any competition to the urbane for now
360 still has flat tire
Huawei is more expensive but for that extra $100 I see no new features
It's a perfect watch, but I agree is sort of a 1.5 gen... I just don't know what real second gen watches will bring to the table that software updates won't get us on this watch...
Kinda waiting for Samsung to come out with a nice round watch, since they tend to throw everything but the kitchen sink into them, lol. Would love to have IR blaster, camera and speaker back
I don't think the Zenwatch 2 has a heart rate monitor.
The newly announced watches aren't really a new generation. Their specs match the previously released watches. If the urbane is gen 1.5, then so is everything else that is currently out or was recently announced
I wanted the Zenwatch 2 because, in my mind, it was a compromise from my Gear S and the 2" screen. But if you talk about area, the 1.65" Zenwatch 2 has the same screen area as the Urbane (roughly 1.35 sq inches).
I'm getting the Urbane. I like the looks and really don't want to wait til late October for a watch.
Updates support?
If LG present a new watch in the next weeks (or before the new year), do you think about the Urbane updates?
Do you think that the Urbane will receive updates for at least 24 more months?

If you're right there are good news,
Due to the 2nd generation watches are using this processor
Google is controlling the updates so that's not an issue. It still a great watch, that looks nice (I've lost count on the compliments and the interest others have in me wearing it) that's a solid choice. The newer watches aren't bringing anything new to the table so your not missing much. I'm gonna keep this until the next next gen comes with a speaker.

This is the reason I miss my Gear S. If that watch had Android Wear or even just Android, it would be light years ahead of anything available now.
Agree, but dumb Samsung wants to convince the world otherwise. If it were cross compatible with Android that would totally help their cause. Android Wear is only picking up steam so no sense jumping ship now... kills me since I love them and would totally buy one but I cannot start my car via Tizen.

I have finally bought my Urbane yesterday and probably receive it tomorrow or monday.
A NFC powered watch will be probably useful, but the Urbane can be bought by 250€ in some retailers, and I think the new LG watch (if any) will cost 350-400€ or more.
I think the Urbane is the best watch at this price range.
There's an Android to Gear S port being worked on but I think that is months from being done. I still miss my Gear S but you can't beat Android Wear. I didn't think I would miss my apps but oddly I did.

I already had Tag heuer Mikrograph in Rose Gold so i went for Silver Urbane.
So I bought a gear s2 I got a hella good deal on. The only reason I got it is because I can use it as a stand alone or Bluetooth.
But I don't like the user interface as much as AW. so I'm thinking about doing a square trade.
What do you guys think? I care nothing about using the net on the watch. Only the Bluetooth and cellular is mandatory for me.

I can't speak for the S2 since I've never used one, but I like my Urbane 2. I use the cellular feature mainly when I am tracking my runs with GPS and I don't want to carry my phone. I just forward my calls to the watch. I'm still paired to the phone through cell data so I can still send/receive texts and see notifications. I'm using a Truphone SIM in mine (prepaid, 9 cents per minute/text/MB with incoming calls/text free in the US), but I believe the AT&T version also works with T-Mobile if you add it as a phone instead of a wearable. The wearable SIM doesn't seem to work from what I've read.

For my purposes, I love the Urbane 2. I'm not sure how the standalone features compare to the S2. I know the LG needs to be paired, through bluetooth, Wi-Fi or cell data, to use all features like OK Google etc. That isn't an issue for me, but not sure if the S2 has similar requirements. Of course, AW 2.0 might change that soon.

The s2 is similar but it has their useless svoice and it's not even as good as the phone version. Not even half. Not even comparable to Google now. I believe I will be selling this one for AW with cell capabilities even though I've used that part like twice

That's exactly what killed the S2 experience for me. Svoice! Can't stress enough how awful it is. I always found myself screaming at the damn thing. I went with Huawei and been in love with Android wear ever since. I know it's probably not what you're looking but I mean to put emphasis on having Google on your wrist and your looking for all the right reasons. Very responsive and knows exactly what you're saying.
Actually I've considered the Huawei but they make awful phones and I am against any Chinese manufacturer because of backdoors... The US specifically pointed out zte and Huawei in fact. But I'm probably being paranoid because I'm sure they all have backdoors . and they would be very bored with my stuff lmao
