[Q] need help

hello guys,
its been about 2 years since i touched my galaxy s advance . unfortunatly i dropped my nexus 4 from 3 stories and its dead . and my back up is s advance so i want to upgrade software its been awhile so i dont know what to do anymore. but for now its running co-core 7 and the rom is aosp vanilla(4.1.2) i guess it is running twrp 2.6.0.0 so i saw new kitkat roms but iam wondering if i need to use 2.7.0.0 twrp inorder to do that and please tell me how if i have to do it and please suggest me active development rom running kitkat and active dev kernel thx in advance.
or if possible refer me to a link please explain me in detail as it isnt nexus to do stuff easy.

SGSA has no seperate recovery. The recovery is in the same partition as the kernel. So you can't replace recovery without replacing kernel.
But you can try to install a custom rom from TWRP 2.6.0.0.
If you want to have TWRP 2.7.1.0 install universal kernel flasher, flash slimkats kernel and reboot to recovery.
But then you have to install a rom because your JB system won't start with a KK kernel.

i have read read that the version 7 kernel is compiled using cm sources
but i m using stock .283 rom
so what do u suggest should i use v7 or stick with v6 only?

I removed version 7 because sensors were not working cm uses open source sensor blobs and stock ROM uses closed sensor blobs I will release version 7 with fixed sensors soon

Working version 7
I successfully flashed version 7! Everything seems working fine.
First time i flashed boot.img with CWM and rebooted, got bricked device. Then I restored boot.img from version 6 with flashtool. Second time I flashed boot.ini from version 7 and kernel version 7 without rebooting and device booted successfully.
Hope this information will help someone.

I'm already using it on kitkat and I really like it! Lollipop will be released for the XZR by tomorrow or even by today evening. So planning to flash it as soon as its released and already searching for rooting methods and custom kernels for it.... Really excited to see lollipop on my XZR....

Congrats on getting a stock ROM partially working! Safariking, I think you should support this newbie and not just say it won't work. How did you think we got custom ROMs?

Well my advice is get use to logcats(google troubleshooting them, maybe even research a few ported manifactured roms to different devices and kernel porting will also be a big part of a build like this) , if you can get it to a working state these areas will be where most of the problems will be show whats conflicting, But without a kernel built/ported for the rom and hardware confliction issues your gonna have issues logcat may not be able to solve. Its not impossible but its far from easy porting from a different manifactured device but it does happen, htc roms have been brought to samsung for a few devices tho very few if any ever 100% function and it can be very time consuming for even a pro builder. would be nice for a custom factory rom from another branded device on our device!. I i wish you luck and will keep my fingers crossed and will check it out once its posted :good:

You are talking about 2 completely different things here. Our custom Roms are stock based with some modifications. These are no ports.

Still, we could get a Nexus 7-like Lollipop ROM when Cyanogen releases CyanogenMod12. Or 13. Cannot remember.. :silly:

btw using a Touchwiz based rom to port a AOSP rom is completely useless that will never ever boot.
if you port something do it from a similair device with the same hardware and uif you port aosp you need a aosp base! if you port a touchwiz based rom use a touchwiz based rom Easy!

Mate not to crush your dream or effort but what the other devs are tell you if true including my self. Educated your self more, all the tutorials and guides regarding porting, building custom rom and more can be find on xda.
As for Lollipop we would have to wait till a compatible / similar device has it before it can be ported.
On that note hope that clear up some stuff for you and understand things better.

So the galaxy tab 2 has official support from cyanogenmod which I think it will be getting cm 12 which the device hardware and specs are not much different someone can port that over to our tab 3.
Or if the tab 4 gets official Samsung android l update you devs can port it to our tab 3??

Did you replace the nexus 7 libs with the tab 3 7.0 libs? Found in /system/lib

i forgot but i will look at the rom if i did
and i wont flash it because i dont have a data cable to reflash the stock rom i will probably start working on december

Upload the rom so i can check/replace the lib files

The only ROM that varies from stock is gr8nole's CM11 ROM. All other are touchwiz
If we had a stable CM ROM i feel this device would be very smooth and probably run some high end games smoothly

I have installed Kali Linux in my android easily using some apps . It runs perfectly in my stock jb with root access and busybox I tried to install reaver and it installed perfectly and needed aircrack-ng so I used
apt-get install aircrack-ng it gives an error saying that it requires a kernal of 3.2+ so if make me or just send me the link of the kernal I will be seriously happy

Second, Samsung provides by default the kernel 3.0.31 (Team Canjica updated to 3.0.101) is possible upgrade to 3.1 but there is no dev willing to continue the project

yes pal, lineageos is bug free even if it´s a nightly, just flash and see for yourself. don´t expect a blazing fast device, as it´s a 3 years old phone, but its totally daily usable (my current daily driver, just waiting to get used to the huawei p9 size i bought a couple weeks ago). head over the LOS thread here and see for yourself. plus you get OTA, wich is kinda nice...

Try Mokee Latest Nightly. U can Try Tesla and Validus too.

That's because there's only a mere 886MB usable RAM out of which 450-500MB is always in use and parallel space needs about 150-200MB RAM so you can't do anything about that.

I have tried LOS and AOSP in my wife's phone..But FM not working in LOS after I did some tweaks with custom kernel and pixel mode..
In AOSP, FM stops working after 2 weeks.
Can anyone suggest a workaround or noughat custom ROM without issue in FM

I have flashed xperince ROM..And flashed Elemental Kernel...No issues with Radio so far....
