Battery Cover tab won't stay down - Motorola Droid 4

Hi everyone.
I got my mint Droid 4 from ebay a couple of days ago, and I found out that the only thing wrong with it is that the lower corner where the speaker grill is on the battery cover won't stay down when it's slid into the phone. It's as if the plastic that holds onto the tab on the battery cover is broken.
not the battery cover "leg" itself, but something inside the phone seems to not get a good "grip" on the piece coming off the battery cover.
is this common, and no way to fix easily?
AHHH! nevermind, found out that it's actually the leg that is rising up off the battery cover. seems like it's about to fall off. time for some super glue to hold it down!

Often you have to look there you recently have made corrections

Take Apart

Anyone know how to get the front bezel off this thing?
It's begging for a paint job.
Thx!
and perhaps a generous application of rubber cement. I had ONE creek point when i bought it - annoying but livable enough (plus the fact all the bad hours of xmas I was working I never had time to return it in the 30 day period to best buy). now almost 2 months latter theres three...
theres a teardown thread or two on here somewhere but the search button seems to be failing (or my browser....)
- Will.
It must pop off, but I don't want to be the guy to try it...
In the tear down I remember seeing roughly 10 small philips screws holding it from the inside to the metal sub structure. To tighten it you need to remove the back of the device then you will see the screws running around the perimeter. I also remember the screen is held to the bezel with a form of double faced tape.

Its funny because the guy at Best Buy was trying to pull the back off of the one I returned... No idea why he was trying to yank the back off of it...
I guess if he had succeeded I would have seen the screws..
Funny enough the display model NookColor at my local best buy was practically falling off. When I first looked at the device I nearly did not buy one because of that but then getting one in my hands at B&N changed my mind.
The front bezel is a "tape and cover" paint job. The screen is glued to the frame pretty solid. I had mine apart to fiddle around and to get the back off for a mold. Most of the screws are Torx #5 or #6. Tape it off good and you should be ok as far as the front bezel. The rear and metal frame you can easily get to by proper disassembly.
Here's the zdnet guide,
http://www.zdnet.com/photos/nookcolor-teardown/487636?seq=21
Here's what I did.
You'll need a torx 5. After you unscrews the 2 screws by the sd slot, use your nail along the chamfer corner to lift the back siding up. Then use a credit card to lift the back up and run along the edge to unhinged the back.
techboydino, are you going to make a new front bezel? might be a small after market for such things. I'd pick up a more solid one if the price was right.
actually metal front and back pieces would rock...

I would like to see a silicon back cover case that has a kickstand..

I was really considering metal but the fact that most would have to really take special care to actually seperate the bezel from the screen really kind of set me off that. making a case for this is rediculously hard. (compared to my attempts at other devices. if you ever seperated a screen for a cell phone from the glass then you know what I mean. I am trying to replace the back with aluminum and wanted to do a carbon fiber front. so far everything is too thick or just plain looks bad.
Ever heard of masking tape?
3M BLUE painters tape FTW
Glad to find this post!!!
This maybe a little off the subject but does any know where I can purchase a replacement faceplate frame cover.
I accidentally drop my nook color and now it has a nasty crack...
Thank you all in advance!
i took the kickstand off a picture frame...white glued it and had one. Then took it off to fit my new cover...replacement kickstand not put on yet..

Your best bet is probably to pick up a smoked one off EBay or one with a cracked screen and a good bezel.
Actually post up WTB (want to buy) dead Nook Color in the XDA market and link to it in this thread. I seem to recall a couple readers here who have more than "gently used" Nooks....

2150 mah battery back squeaking

I just got the 2150 htc battery and back and i notice a pretty annoying squeak on the right side. anyone had this problem and/or have a solution?
Now since you mention it, I did notice part of it not closing all the way- but no actual squeak. I mean, it is snug on there but there's a little part near the middle on one side that just isn't flat against the phone.
I have a case over on top of it so it's not an issue for me, I guess that could be a solution but only if you want a case to go with your phone.

[Q] Battey bulging

Hi
I discovered today that my 18 month old Razr I is starting to have a bulging battery. I can see a slight bulge if I look closely on the back side.
I believe the phone was once lying flat on a table, now the Kevlar is touching the table.
Do you also have that?
The battery seems to be otherwise still ok.

Change the battery if it's growing. Seriously it it's starts growing it can be twice fatter after few months.

Aluminium back cover

Hello everyone, thanks for checking out my thread :good:
As you all know, our beloved Xperia Z4 tend to heat up when doing some "intensive" work. Sure, I can live with the phone closing YouTube when it gets too hot, but the Camera app closes after taking a Full HD video for two minutes. It's quite frustrating, especially when recording a concert. That's two minutes of video and 6 minutes of cooldown.
On the other side, I just replaced my rear camera after it died from a drop. The technician glued the back cover, but I noticed that the glue was a mess and the back cover wasn't aligned properly, causing the left side of the panel to sink in. I asked other technicians if they can redo the job. However, they said maybe and no, because the back cover might crack, due to the left side sinked in.
Now, since the SoC heats up easily, and the back cover might get cracked, I waa thinking of designing a back cover made of aluminium. Basically it will act as a heatsink for the SoC while also acting as a normal back cover.
I already considered a few problems that might happen, like removing the back cover (since I believe anodized aluminium will be slippery) or making custom lenses and rubber rings for the camera and flash LED, but I wanted to know, what do you guys think? Is it a good idea?
I have bought an aluminium back cover from Aliexpress but could not test it to change of season (winter) during long delivery time.
Presently I am using a hard thick plastic back cover which stops heat reaching mu fingers and major heat dissipation is through screen only. Since I don't feel heat so I am not much worried. My phone is rooted and I am using thermal xposed module which keeps everything working in all seasons (phone has to die one day anyway).
I sometimes think of using thermal paste between the chip and phone's glass back cover but never tried it.

Late answer, but I am going to try adding extra cooling on the Z4 by adding a custom copper sheet inside with some thermal paste and replacing the thermal pad on the screen side.

Moto G6 lterally coming apart at the seam

Hi, I have an almost 2 year old Moto G6 (just the G6, not Play or Plus). Had it in the same case that length of time. About a month ago, found it was hard to press the power button. I finally just took it out of the case, and in doing so, found the allegedly permanently sealed back cover was coming loose on the side with the power button as well as the bottom where the USB-C jack is. Looks like the adhesive is stretchy but no longer very tacky, and trying to manually press the back cover into place is futile as it won't stay and won't even go all the way in. The phone still works, and after removing it from the case, I now see the power button is fine. I assume it's out of warranty now, I think 1 year and I have no add-on protection plan on my T-Mobile bill. I seen videos of people removing the back cover with a heat gun and razor blade to replace the battery. On what I can see, doesn't look like my battery is bulging. Tempted to crazy glue where the cover is separating, but I doubt that would hold with the pressure that makes the cover pull out again once pushed down. I would think at this point I could carefully just manually remove the whole back cover by hand.My dexterity is awful on repairing small delicate things. Can a shop repair this fairly cheaply? Any advice? I'm in Ohio/USA. Thanks!
I took mine out of the case tonight to clean it and discovered I have exactly the same problem! My case is such that if I put the phone back in it, the case "snaps" together and hence keeps the phone together. Mine is probably two years old too, so I'm sure no fix is possible (but I'll keep my eye on this thread). I'll leave the case on and begin looking for a new phone.
I'm with Sprint so I'm anticipating the conversion to TMo, so I'd rather wait until that happens before I buy a new one.

You could try using a hair dryer to heat up the glue to make it stick together again.

I thought maybe excessive heat and sweat from being in my pocket on hot days loosened it up.
Thanks for the replies FrogFan and Ragarianok. Sorry for the long delay. In the meantime, I got the back case half off, and indeed a swollen battery. I am going to order a new battery for $4 from Mobile Defenders in MI, battery image says Motorola on it, and they say authorized OEM. A nearby repair shop said they will put it in for $20. They said a decent battery should run $20+, but all those higher priced ones on ebay and Amazon are no-names.
Thanks for coming back, dannykewl. I wasted some time inquiring about a fix from Motorola and found out that their "fix" would cost more than the phone was worth. A local shop quoted a ridiculously high price to fix it, too, but they did say the problem could be caused by a swollen battery. I will check with other local shops to see what they'd charge to replace the battery and seal it back up.
Did you get yours fixed?
POP!
My phone separated today and it is a swollen battery. I suspected for about 2 months the battery was swelling because of pressure points showing up on the screen as bright circles. I was just going to buy a new phone as this was a cheap phone and 2 years old, but the battery did the hard work for me by separating the phone from it's back, so I decided to fix. I removed the battery, ordered replacement battery on ebay and will put back together myself for $12. The $4 batteries are out of stock. The phone has enough stickiness left to hold the backplate and phone together on it's own, and it'll be in the phone case so no worries. Might apply a little Elmers to the surround. From what I read online, and saw on Youtube, be careful with the back, it's actually a glass metal hybrid and not safety glass at that. It will shatter off the metal and into little tiny razors and knives. The screen artifacts disappeared when the back was removed, relieving pressure on the components mashing up against the screen from the inside.. No permanent damage. This new battery should tide me over long enough for the affordable 5g phones to come out. I don't buy pricey phones. Oh, fyi... this is a SUPER easy repair. Have faith and go for it.
I took mine to a local repair shop today and confirmed my problem was also a swelling battery. They will replace the battery for me for $75.

I checked out a YouTube video on this topic and quickly confirmed that this repair is way over my head. I don't have the tools or the patience to change the battery in this phone.
